Result: Guardian AA is definitely stronger than warrior, and im not sure if vul stacks will ever make up for that. Lets continue:

Also has a chance to hit mid range targets (600meters), mobile at reduced speed on 3/4 casttime

*Hundren blades – Damage (8x): 1,624 Final strike damage: 406

Immobile on 3.25 casttime

Result; while everyone says HB is a high risk high reward skill offering massive dps i completely can’t agree on that one. Its do provide high dps but over time. But what if there was no cd on those abilities?

-1 casttime of HB is equal to 4 (rounding up) Whirling Wraths for a total 5004 damage. But thats not everything

-“The spin hits 7 times and throws 7 projectiles, for a total of 14 possible hits on a single target”

-Standing inside ur enemy actually doubles damage making it on par with HB, but unlike HB casttime last olny 3/4sec making HB a pretty poor skill in comprasion. Yet making HB mobile would be OP? Lets continue:

*Leap of Faith – Damage: 406 (1.1), Blind: 3 s, Combo Finisher: Leap, Range: 600
*Whirlwind Attack – Damage: 259 (0.7), Combo Finisher: Whirl, Evade: 3/4 s, Range: 450

for Leap:
-reliable damage
-blind
-better scaling with power
-15cd.

For whirl:
-unreliable damage
-damage while evading
-worse scaling with power

Result; i olny compared utilities as both of these skills has different job to do. Is there a point to continue? I don’t think so.

*Bladetrail – Damage: 277 (0.75), Crippled: 4 s (can be counted as 2x), Combo Finisher: Physical Projectile, Range: 900

A slow projectile to slow down enemy. How ironic inst it? Current problem is that in many cases projectile doesnt return as its getting obstructed on terrain, is fairy easy to avoid just by running in circles…

*Symbol of Wrath – Damage (5x): 925 (2.75), Retaliation: 1 s (x5), Combo Field: Light

Nice combo right here, lay down a symbol and use whirling wrath to clean conditions, after that leap for addiotional 5s of retal, just to make life easier. Damage wise+utility? No commend.

*Binding Blade – aoe pull, if not used dealing damage over time
*Rush – everyone knows.

In terms of utility guardian gs wins hands down
In terms of mobility warrior gs wins without a doubt
In terms of power scaling? Obviously guardian gs.
In terms of synergy? Guardian gs without a doubt.
In terms of damage? I vote for guardian gs. Where do u place ur vote?

I do know that warrior gs has a trait for might on crit, but due to it low power scaling is not all that great as it seems to be, at the same time guardian can trait to heal per strike of gs. I do probably made some mistakes so correct me if im wrong, i am not a pro at calculations ; )

I’m curious to know why a Ranger 15 Trait is now better than a Warrior’s 25 trait.

Mighty Swap gives both the Ranger and their pet 3 stacks of Might upon the pet being activated. This can occur every 10 seconds.

Versatile Power gives the Warrior 1 stack of Might upon switching weapons. This can occur every 10 seconds, or 5 when using the minor trait Fast Hands.

Even with 15 points in Discipline the Ranger now has better access to Might AND it affects their pet as well. In what ways do you believe this to be a balanced trait?

Also, I’d like to point out that Thieves and Guardians get 10% damage while their Endurance is not full while Warriors only get 3%. Shouldn’t the Warrior trait be brought up to a similar level?

So Earth shaker will now be reduced in damage by a total of 27% (if we take those traits), and Staggering Blow is reduced by 23%.This almost forces us to adopt Hammer Mastery in order to do some kind of viable damage with hammer. I thought the point of this update was to encourage build diversity. It seems like you’re doing the opposite of that.

With around 100% critical damage from gear, a full combo of Backbreaker, Staggering blow, and Earth shaker will amount to around 7-12k damage in 3 attacks depending on the armor of the target and whether protection is on them or not. This combo is hardly enough to take on a skilled mesmer, or good elementalist, and will barley harm a good guard. Now take into consideration how obvious those 3 attacks are when used in a chain. Earth shaker can only be landed now if someone is imobilized, inexperienced, or lagging due to the vast numbers in a zerg. Almost everyone knows the animation of it by now. Not to mention that Earth Shaker is completely useless on a slope because you guys can’t figure out how to fix this 1 year after launch. Backbreaker’s windup takes literally forever and is also a very obvious animation. Staggering Blow is a useful setup skill that helps you chain Earth shaker or Backbreaker. Ideally, a good combo is considered 4,5, f1. Landing 3 abilities at fight start proves very difficult without the use of imobilize, or Line of sight mechanics (By this I mean stunning people through walls, where they can’t see your player model). A good player will often carry atleast 1 stunbreaker or CC immunity. Some classes such as Guard even have this built into their weapon skills and don’t have to waste a utility slot on it. These changes would then increase longevity of an opponent and therefore increase the fight duration. Shout heal builds aside, a good warrior will likely agree that unless facing another warrior, for sake of class knowledge and equally readable skills, a prolonged fight against almost any other class will equal a warrior’s loss. This is speaking in terms of a 1v1 situation, and on flat terrain. I suppose I could tackle the element of zerg play, but I feel that going the direction of army vs army simply dumbs down skillful and interesting combat that can be seen otherwise if maps were created bigger, with greater terrain diversity, and less simplistic over all. I feel that you seem to balance in this perspective primarily when you should be looking at class balances in terms of class vs class, instead of army vs army.

Instead of damage nerfs towards warrior, I honestly think you still need to consider Guild Wars 1 for useful traits and class mechanics. There were many intersting ideas behind stances in GW1 that I find greatly lacking in GW2. Please consider the use of stances, class knowledge, and the stability boon in general for counters towards a hammer warrior. In truth, a hammer is just as obvious and easy to read from telegraphed animations as a Greatsword warrior. The last thing we need is another damage nerf because less skilled players do not bother to inform themselves of class mechanics and builds.

Warriors don’t understand the phrase “nerfed to the ground” yet.

Hammer dps got nerfed by 40% fourty kitten percent if you want to pick UF,cleansing ire and fast hands guys.If you go full zerk you only lose 20%.Pretty small nerf huh?

Thank god they said they don’t want to nerf to the ground a class and they will do it moderately ? What is next then? 150% damage nerf in january probably.

Warriors are pretty strong right now, but will be seeing changes in an upcoming patch.

We like how they can be tanky, and we like how they can do DPS if they want. We also like the CC they can bring. We just don’t like them doing it all with 1 build.

Congrats whiners. Warriors are now a free kill again. Glad I don’t main warrior. Hammer is so easy to avoid and heavy burst classes are tough to beat on war but now warrior can join ele status.

Looks like we all forgot the days where warrior was a free kill for you know the first 10 months of the game. You know the days where it was so universally accepted that the warrior was an utter dead weight and only good in CoF p1 gold runs and utter trash in PvP. The days where 1 trap ranger will utterly destroy 3 warriors on this own and ranger pet can 1v1 a warrior and come out on top.

I’m a bit annoyed seeing posts in the forums and people inside the gaming the argument that Warriors are OP’ed because of their popularity. It actually brings me back to the release of Guild Wars 1, of people asking for Warrior/Monks(Wammos) getting nerfed. It was of course pure stupidity. They were extremely popular because they where easy to play and easy to understand, but it was not a qualified justification to change the class because it worked.
The difference here is experience, and unlike in GW1 where the angry masses just blame everyone but themselves, the situation in GW2 with mainly the healing signet and the Hammer Warrior builds are featured in other threads.

What this thread is about, why Warriors are popular. Or rather why they have always been popular. Short answer is; Because they are extremely fun to play. Longer answer;

I’ve played a Warrior since day 1, and I feel that I saw a lot of Warriors everywhere back then as well. The preveleance of Warrior has changed. I recall that early this year Guardians started becoming popular, and I remember Mesmers suddenly being the class I saw most people play as. Then there was the Thief armies in WvW.

Warrior is a great class because there is a lot of ways to play. The Axes are great and fun. The sword is awesome for utility. The Warhorn is great. Many people have different views on the longbow and the Rifle. The Greatsword is legendary, and the Hammer is the current Flavor of the month. Mace is solid too! In fact it seems to me that the only weapon that doesn’t work that well in some circumstance, is actually the Shield.
But if you look at it in an overall perspective, it means that there is a lot of really great way to play Warriors. If you look at Ranger as an example, you are looking at a class with a lot more problematic weapon sets! Guardians come close to Warriors in build variety as well.

Another reason is that one of the main things about guild wars is the action combat. No other class than Warrior and Thief really facilitates that level of action and swordswinging mayham that well. Warrior really gives you that sense of swinging a weapon like it was a console action game. That’s what that class brings to the table. If you compare it to a Guardian weapons like Sword and Greatsword gives you a lot more instant action weapon attacks.m there are fewer cast bars, less of strained animation. You just get this fluid mess of PRESSING BUTTONS.

It makes Warrior an easy class to play, a good class to get variety as. I’ve run all sorts of builds. From bunkers, to shout healing warrior, to bleed condition, to shout cleanser, to banner buffer, to zerg stomper to zerker single target. It’s just a class that works and it’s a lot of fun to play.

Even the utilities mostly works. and every warrior I know runs their own thing. In fact, at any point in time I think Warrior in GW2 is the most fun class I have played in any MMO. Since Everquest and WoW and DAOC, what this class embodies is all I ever wanted. I was sick of sandwhich combat from day 1 and hated the wack-a-mole.

TL;DR – Warriors are not awesome because they are Warriors. Warriors are awesome because awesomeness is the epitome of the Warrior way of life.

Warriors never went on other forums and QQed and asked for nerfs to other classes, WE wanted improvements to ours.

A new tournament just finished and we have REAL information about warrior balance instead of biased, anecdotal, and “Give me back my I win button” posts.

What are REAL top level teams using? Is there a screaming horde of Warriors ruining tPvp? Let’s look at REAL information.

Out of 8 teams-
9 Rangers
8 Guardians
6 Warriors
5Thieves
5 Necros
5 Engineers
2 Mesmers

Whaaaat? No 300 “For Sparta!!”? Warriors are performing on par with expectation of 5 spots per 40!! For the first time!! I actually did a breakdown of the PAX/ESL top 8 teams in another thread and they were still much lower, so this is the first time they actually take equal footing!

Let’s talk about some result tidbits.

Guardians, Rangers, Thieves, and Engineers all showed up with varied specs. Warriors had 1 spec, so right now warrior only has 1 viable top end tPvp spec. Hammer/longbow.

Guard/Ranger? These guys are too strong. Maybe not their single abilities or stats. But something about the way they add to groups, ease of play, crazy utilities, something is making them way overbalanced. I don’t have a solution, but the reality is there.

Engineers!! Engineers making a comeback! Low low numbers in PAX/ESL, but not today? Why? Well maybe because warriors are showing up so Necro isn’t always the best condi-spam class anymore? And did you see that Rifle/Power Engi eating warriors?? “Come here little engie, hammer smas…holywhatdafuuuuq abort abort!”

Necros! Necros go from grossly over represented PAX/ESL to right in line with others. Common theme of team fights, warrior joins fight, sees necro, omgcomehuggleswitme!! If warrior isn’t in fight, necro lays waste everywhere almost without restriction.

Mesmer! Still low, but their ability to counter warriors was nutz. Shatter build? What dat? And they had some great all around sneakiness with portals. Watching a ranger solo capping only to see a warrior and guardian pop out of a portal on top of him… Priceless. Winning team had a mesmer, why doesn’t yours?

Warriors do not need shaved, they do not need nerfed. They are just now making an impact and ADDING game balance by opening room for new classes. Quit demanding nerfs so you can feel like a hot join/soloq/dueling/roaming hero. Thats the kind of thing that RUINS competitive game and destroys professions. Example, Elementalists. Oh, where for art though sparky/flamey/watery/muddy ones? Nerfed into oblivion because people asked for too much too fast and didn’t realize the impact.

Warriors are in a dangerous position. Sigil of Para changes may ruin the one tPvp spec they have. If that necro isn’t locked down, why bring a warrior at all? Might need to add something to keep them in the place they are now. I don’t mind trying it, but Anet needs to watch it close close.

Lol warriros and everything else can hit as hard or sometimes harder if you go all out in DPS. This is not only thieves. In fact warriors can have 2.5k plus armor and hit way harder

but that warrior will get squished and have no where near the escape means. Ran into a thief like this last night…Playing necro with 27k health. Never saw him coming, just 10k BS, 6k CnD, 6K HS, usually lightning proc in there…if he didn’t drop me by landing all crits I then got him to 25% and poof off he went….to reset and try again. So he either popped in dropping me or poofed out at 25% either way the party never had time to catch him.

Now a warrior sure could rush in and drop a ton of damage…but he won’t survive getting back out. + you will see him coming and can prep… lay down marks/wells

If anything, they should buff Physical skills. They are the CC/interrupts of the warrior.

Warriors need some drastic changes if the traits are to actually match the stats. As it is now, power has horrible first tier choices. This is POWER we are talking about and it has things like Cure Condition, Heal HP, Reduce Damage….Am I looking at the wrong trait, nope, thats what power gives you, defense.

Revamp the entire line again because it makes no sense. Meanwhile you spec into vitality and it gives you +150 power! Wouldnt ya know!

So 10 trait vit>>150 power…
10 trait into power = 100 power + a heal…

confusing much?

I’m going to reply to Lyndis without trolling in this post. He wrote an entire thread dedicated to how bullkitten the stealth mechanic is, anyone else who thinks that stealth is a pathetic mechanic and that people who play thieves and perma-stealth can’t PvP, is a friend of mine.

Lyndis, unfortunately I doubt there is a way for a ranger to trap a Greatsword / sword + warhorn warrior. I don’t know for certain because I don’t have a ranger or engineer so I don’t know what they are capable of.

I personally use the very type of warrior you complain about, and I have never been chased and killed by a single enemy of any class since using the build. We also have a trait called “Mobile Strikes” meaning that any movement skill will break immobilise, and those weapons provide 3 movement skills. If it’s any condolence, the times where I have died to a small team chasing me, it’s normally down to a thief who steals to or a ranger who’s doing high damage with huge range. 1v1 though, I don’t think anyone in the game can move as fast as this warrior with this setup.

Here’s the deal, I love the hammer, I mean I absolutely LOVE the kitten hammer for the warrior. I used to use it and I was a much tougher fighter in duels and small skrmishes. The thing is, I identify myself as a “roamer”. On too many occasions, I found that my fight would be interrupted and I’d be killed by companions of the enemy seeing the fight and killing me. It then finally clicked into place that I have to dedicate myself primarily to roamingand mobility, so I had to switch to sword.

The con is, I’m not a huge fan of the sword, I prefer the axe as a 1 hander for eviscerate (warrior burst that hits hard) and I prefer the axe also as an off hander. The warhorn has almost 0 benefit to me, other than the fact that I use it to get perma swiftness. Even the fact that it breaks immobilise isn’t useful to me, it takes too long to case for that to be effective, which is why I rely on mobile strikes. So by dedicating myself to this weaponset, I MIGHT beat you in a fight, I might draw or I might escape, but know that if I had my hammer instead I’d probably knock you into the earth.

Yes it’s probably unfair that I can run away from you, but you can also stealth. It’s really annoying and it throws me off track. And you also have protection. It seems like every ranger I bump into is spamming those 2 things, it’s becoming increasingly difficult me to take out a ranger, especially ones that are good at evading.

I don’t want to let all rangers know my weakness :P, but If you want to annoy the crap out of me in a duel, choose the pet that knocks me down, it’s INFURIATING. I can’t remember which pet it was, but I remember it happening. I’m an honourable warrior, if I am losing to you in a duel, I will not run away, I will fight to the death and then add you to my party and tell you that you’re one of the best I’ve fought, and ask you for tips on how to improve myself. I will only escape if your friends come along and I’m guaranteed to die if I stay to fight.

So in summary, I don’t think there is a way for you to chase down that fleeing warrior, just accept the fact that he’s weakened himself by choosing mobility weapons, rather than playing the gneeric cheesy skullcrack build will be nerfed pretty soon, I’m sorry brother.

Finally, in reply to GSSBlunaspike.4153, your completely incompetant. You should stop playing this game. You play a thief because you can go invisible and do massive damage, with your backstab and then 2,2,2,2,2. Then you can stomp your enemy while stealthed, so no-one knows you’re actually doing it. If you fail however, you don’t even have to run away, you just hide, even if you’re in the most open battlefield, you just go stealth and no-one knows where you are. No-one in the game has that luxury except for thieves, it’s the easiest class to survive with in WvW and that’s why you and 90% of other thief players use the class. Oh, not to mention, you’re the only class in the game that has no cooldown on your weapon skills, LOL. So you can spam heartseeker about 6 times in a row, even though I can only evade twice, and you don’t need to aim it, it just auto-targets. The class was literally MADE for people that have absolutely 0 skill level. Like I mentioned in a previous post, the second class I ever got to level 80 was a thief because I was mostly having trouble with them, I fully understand how a thief works, and I don’t play mine because the game is boring when I do. I simply don’t die, and there’s no chance of me dying. Un-install this game please.

You don’t chase them. It’s that simple. The warrior has to have some mechanic to stay alive, we don’t have stealth, pets, minions, clones, turrets or spirit weapons. In fact we have nothing but our battle hardened bodies to take us through the fight, to survive. Thieves have stealth, thieves guild, shortbow teleportation and shadowstep on multiple weapons. The class is completely broken and should be banned from the game, given the amount of thieves there are due to the fact that people cannot pvp so they a go a class that can remain hidden for over 50% of the fight.
