I betcha the OP would claim the freebie wintersday gifts given out in the GW1 finales weren’t gifts either. By having to stand there and receive them, you are thereby doing something ‘for’ them and therefore they are not ‘free.’

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

A gold sink is needed only for the wealthy players who can drive up the price. It would be very simple to tax let’s say the total wealth of the top 25% daily to keep down inflation. The casual player isn’t going to be a problem. Since a lot of items are account or soul bound and therefore worthless to everyone else they shouldn’t be taxed, but all sellable items should be. I am sure the 75% who aren’t being taxed wouldn’t have a problem with it. Even better that money should be transferred to the poorer players. This sounds familiar some how.

Yeah, it is called Socialism.

But GW2 was built around a Democratic system where everyone pays thier own way for what they use/have. Why should I pay for you to waypoint around?! If you want to waypoint then you pay for it. It is not required in order to play the game, it is an optional benefit. If you want to save some money then simply don’t use it. If you get a good exotic drop worth 100s’ of gold why should I have to pay the 15% for you to post it on the TP?! You will more than get it back once the item is sold.

This is a game with fake money!!! Gold sinks are necessary. But there are always options to both save and make money. No one NEEDs a specific look to an armor or weapon in order to be “even”. Just be glad that we don’t have to pay monthly with REAL money to play this game….or would you expect me to pay your monthly fees also?!

Draknar, I enjoyed reading all your rebutals and agree with you 100% about the Wintersday / Christmas arguement.

[Sug] Minion Acquisition and Management

in Necromancer

[…Continued]
But, with more minions summoned, the less control the necro has over them.
1 Summon:
F1 – Heals Summon #1
F2 – Special ability for Summon #1 much like the F2 ability on ranger pets.
F3 – Sacrifice the minion and cause a poisonous explosion at their location.
F4 – Sacrifice the minion for its life force (remaining health) to fuel death shroud ability instead.

2 Summons: By having 2 minions, the necro forgoes the special ability for Minion #1.
F1 – Heals Summon #1
F2 – Heals Summon #2
F3 – Sacrifice a random minion and cause a poisonous explosion at their location.
F4 – Sacrifice a random minion for its life force (remaining health) to then use for healing the remaining minion or to use as fuel for death shroud ability instead.

3 Summons: By having 3 minions, the necro forgoes the poisonous explosion ability.
F1 – Heals Summon #1
F2 – Heals Summon #2
F3 – Heals Summon #3
F4 – Sacrifice a random minion for its life force (remaining health) to then use for healing remaining summons or to use as fuel for death shroud ability instead.

Or simply limit it to 2 max summons and maintain the F3 and F4 functionality defined above in the 2 Summons area. Can also have it to where the initial summoning of a minion uses half of the life force bar, as needing life force to summon a minion makes sense. So the necro can choose to use the life force to create a new minion, to use it to heal an existing one, or sacrifice an existing one and then summon a new one if there is enough life force in reserve.

I make this suggestion primarily as a plea for the dark, necrotic side of the Necromancer to make its return. It deserves it. For the existing players that like how summons work currently, during character creation of a new necro, what way they want minions to be (current vs proposed) could be tied to a selection:

Current: “I wield the souls of creatures granted to me by X god.”
Proposed: “I dominate and control the souls of creatures of my own choosing.”

However, under the new minion acquisition and management, several skill unlocks would no longer exist that relate to the existing minions; e.g. minion summoning skills. So it might not be possible to allow existing necromancers to switch to the proposed form of minion acquisition and management, though I believe that it can be worked out to allow switching via a trait to where those summon skills are replaced with other minion related skills.

I know there is still a lot to work out on details and balancing, but it should only be implemented into PvE for starters and not in PvP modes as it could introduce a lot of issues with the existing balance for those modes of play.

However, I still believe that the changes that have been made in the name of balance in PvP and WvW should not have also been forced onto PvE players. These modes of play should remain completely separate from eachother; different skills and different traits ideally, but balance changes to PvP/WvW should not have any effect on PvE, just as the opposite should be true.

Anyone have additional thoughts or comments on this idea?

[Sug] Minion Acquisition and Management

in Necromancer

StinVec.3621

As suggestions are now encouraged to be made in their respective areas instead of the suggestions archive, I am making this suggestion again here in the hopes of garnering more opinions on this concept from those who play necromancer. I’d love to hear what you think!

I may be in the minority, but I really do not enjoy the way minions are handled in GW2, especially since it was so incredible in GW1.

I understand that there are reasons for why resurrecting minions from corpses was not implemented in GW2, but I feel that the way minions are currently handled is not ideal and is also lacking in depth. There is a lot of potential still to be had with the GW2 necromancer regarding minion acquisition and management over simply ‘buying’ a summon skill with skill points to summon one of the few predefined kinds.

Imagine if, just as the ranger has to ‘charm’ a juvenile pet for it to be selectable in the pet management, that a necromancer would need to kill an enemy/adult animal and perform a 10 second ritual or something which summons a dead/death-touched version of it, thus binding the soul/its essence to you and it then being able to be summoned in this proposed necromancer minion management. Necromancers could then be able to share some of the same pet control mechanics as the ranger in regards to controlling minions.

It wouldn’t have to be all types of animals that can be resurrected as the ranger has many of the same types of animals it can ‘charm’. Death form of animals could be one of each species; e.g. a feline, a drake, a spider, etc, but would look like dark, twisted versions of them…instead of just a re-skinning, though I’d not complain about that if that were the case. Or it could have nothing to do with animals and be entirely focused on species like Centaurs, or Humans, or even turn a Risen to do your bidding (maybe not Risen, lore likely prevents that).

Due to the increased control over minions (such as a ranger with directing their pet), being able to summon two or three minions at once would then be possible only to those necromancers who trait into minion controlling. To counter the OP nature of having three controllable pets, I would then like to see the return of the mechanic of minions constantly losing health and the need for sustaining your summons through sacrificing your own health, or better yet, your life force bar for death shroud. It would be interesting to have to choose between assuming death shroud or using the life force stored there through killing enemies to heal your minions.

And if you have two (or the max of 3) summoned minions, keeping the additional ones alive would be very taxing on your life force bar, so keeping and maintaining one or two would be ideal, but a third wouldn’t be impossible if there are plenty of enemies to fuel your life force bar. Even then, converting the life force into health for sustaining the minions could be attached to minion F-key skills with a cool down so you could only heal each of them so often.

"The story so far" cinematic should...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cillercammy.8064

cillercammy.8064

The new story so far video is Awesome! It leaves me excited to see whats in store! However, the cinematic should be available in game.

Most of my friends and guildies don’t really go on the website and haven’t seen the video. Lots of them, who missed earlier living story updates will never know what happened unless they go online and look up the video. most of them probably wont.

What if the cinematic was available by talking to a herald in any major city. This would give players an in-game opportunity to learn about the story. This is something Guild Wars really needs, since most story and lore has to be researched online.

Please bring this cinematic in-game! It would also let players look back and remember living stories years from now.

You run longer wihtout 1 liter of blood: way more important. Life is a marathon afterall.
Bleeding and some cardio, and you will always outrun the pitchforks, mobs, monsters, bullets and bullies… or maybe not?
After so many deaths and respawns everything gets a little fuzzy.

Yea. It makes sense. Absolutely: while bleeding you lose weight. 1 kg for every liter of blood more o less. So it’s normal if you run faster: you’ve dropped luggage.
Yay! Now we can finally troll world bosses as the other classes… till next patch. Where blood is power will be replaced by something else… I dunno, maybe a mark of summoning. 60 sec cd, half bone minion at a time.

We can keep discussing about necro beign useless or not in dungeon, power or condi, ecc..

But the fact is that it’s just fine for the difficult level that the dungeons are set up. Same for all other classes.

You can make any combination of the classes including up to 5 of the same class of any class, and still run every dungeon, without too much issue.

The only thing I could see this not work on is maybe really difficult fractals, and I still imagine that a group of really solid players could make it work.

And as someone that plays a ranger I appreciate it. Snowball Mayhem is probably the best pvp event I played in this game. It so well balanced, so simple, and so much fun. As a ranger and one of the worst most broken classes to play in this game it was actually the first time I had fun playing PVP in GW2 and I mean EVER.

Other players during the game say the same stuff they’re all just having actual fun for once. I was almost reminded of how much fun pvp was in GW1 where you played with a close group of 6-10 other players and you played game after game after game fighting the same folks and having fun. Exchanging a few taunts and everyone having a good time. Snowball Mayhem brought that feeling back for me. I’ll be sad to see this event go. Right now it’s the only reason I still play and made me realize what I’ve been missing “fun”. I know I probably wont continue playing after this event is done because I think I’ve pretty much gotten all I can get from this game. I just don’t like how Rangers are done in this game.Assassins were booted, and so were Dervishes. No class for me to fall back on that I also like and I don’t care for the new classes much. Not saying this game is bad but I don’t enjoy it as much as I did the previous Guildwars and therefore haven’t played it as much till this event and I’ve been loving it.

I just hope more fun stuff like this will be done again in the future.

Focus Vs Dagger Offhand

In general, two best options for Conditionmancers OH are Dagger and Horn. Horn is a good option honestly and adds some swiftnes, but Dagger OH, as said, has blind, condition transfer, may chill with trait and has AoE weakness. I think you should check both

Speaking about Focus, it’s mostly the weapon of choice for Power Necromancer, especially those rolling with Axe and more dps builds. It offers hillarious vun stacking, some nice regen, AoE/Single Target very high damage and best of all, crazy Life Force generation. This thing alone can bring you about 20% LF back and and it has pretty low cooldown.

suggestion: New minion skins for necro

in Necromancer

Posted by: Rym.1469

Rym.1469

It’s actually in the lore about GW Necromancers that they don’t ressurect dead people. They just use bones, flesh of the dead and bound them with necrotic powers to serve them. That’s why we won’t see rising dead dudes, as much as cool that would be (I’d ressurect Hambow Warrior and command him to faceroll everyone when chillin’. It even fits the theme, as brainless in life, as he was in death ;p ) .

We just make constructs. Not that it isn’t cool, because we could potentially construct any big motherkitten with it, according to the lore, Bone Golems etc…

I’d like to see optional minion reskin. Possibly through some kind of special quest maybe or by picking certain traits. Horror Porcupine?

suggestion: New minion skins for necro

in Necromancer

Camarell.5648

As the necromancer minions at current state more looks like some kind of demons. It would be more necrotic to actually spawn “risen”. Instead of that awful dead rats it should spawn peasents. Instead of that scorpion thingie with legs it skould be a risen noble. The bad Ghost should be a defiler and so on. Im in the impression GW2 necros is more Warlock then necro. I hate the minion looks at it current state and refuse to say they belong to necromancer. So either make new minions with new abilitys or just let us have new skins on current.
