Seriously.

How about, as a community, you come together with positive suggestions, critical feedback regarding what, specifically, is the issue with the meta at the moment, and what they can do to change it.

The constant bickering and crying and complaining by the players, those players who simply play the game instead of develop the game, needs to end, and although it won’t, you all should at least realize that what you’re doing is wrong and it isn’t helping.

Mostly, what I’m noticing is a bunch of keyboard warriors who don’t know the first thing about programming, those of you who don’t have a job developing a video game, complaining about the rate of changes that they are making.

You don’t know the first thing about developing a game. They are working hard. They play the game after work, too. They know what’s wrong with it. They know what they need to change, they hear you when you say you want X changed.

Lastly, there are several different teams in Anet regarding different kinds of content. PVP development team, Event development team… Just because a patch came out that you don’t like because it’s PVE doesn’t mean they just ignored you and stopped working on PVP. It just means that the PVE team hit their mark, while the PVP team is still working on changes.

They are working on game modes.

They are looking into the lag, which one of the forum mods said they would talk to the team on monday…. today.

They are working on more skills.

They are working on balance.

It took other MMO’s years to balance their game, and yet, no game is perfectly balanced. The meta will change every patch. There will always be a mass influx of one profession in PvP when it gets buffed. That’s the price you have to pay when you can go into Spvp starting from level 1.

You guys don’t know how to develop a game. Give constructive feedback, and chill the kitten out.

  • I agree its not build in a day. I agree its not build in a year.

- But they should have made more then 50% of the game , before releasing it.

  • I agree sometimes people are to hostile in games for almost nothing. I agree sometimes they behave like little kids.

- But after a year of failed patches, i cant blame them.
Every1 has a limit.

Anet should be glad there playerbase gave them a year. To bad they didn’t use it wisely.

Solo Arenas were a step in the right direction, and yet, all that did was incite more crying.

Whenever you do something right, and you’re taken for granted for it, it’s a blow to your self-esteem.

It reminds me of a post from the devs awhile back, that stated something along the lines of “We made all this PvE content and these events for you guys… for you to simply waste your time grinding or abusing the content”

It’s hard to please a playerbase that wants a game built instantly. It took WoW a few years to get on its feet, work out the bugs, start balancing. WoW didn’t even have battleground PvP until a later patch. Each patch brought a crap ton of more problems. You all seem to ignore that every MMO that starts, starts rough, starts with bugs, and small patches that slowly get them in the right direction.

All of you who claim that they aren’t doing enough are just using a game that has had a decade of practice as an example. A game that still has a subscription, even after a decade.

Arena Net doesn’t make as much money as Blizzard does. They can’t afford teams of 100+ on every project, sorry.

A patch? As in, ONE SINGLE, patch? Do you not realize that PVE gets new content every fourteen days? PVP is a side note, an after-thought. If they cared about PVP they would do fast small patches, fixing the extremely broken things like stunlock warrior support builds and Necro’s. Remember before PAX? How they were waiting for THAT to finish before ‘patching’ the game? Oh that’s funny. Only thing they nerf’d was the petting zoo.

They have an entire separate team for PvP. Did you not even read the post? Whining about PvE content is pointless, because it’s a separate team.

Not this high-horse idiocy again.

Very constructive of you.

It ain’t built in a year either by the looks of it.

And that’s cute, whipping out the high horse to berate people for being cynical and bitter, despite the fact that people have given tons of feedback, but when the game has stagnated for so long you can only be so hopeful…. so..

Really? For a year, they haven’t done anything?

I can give you the list of changes they have made to PvP in the past year, if that helps. The Meta changes. It keeps changing. They make changes based on how the meta changes.

Offense vs. punishment, risk vs. reward

Just so you guys know:

We’re not entirely opposed to toning down auto attack damage in PvP (we could split some of the skills and leave PvE/WvW where they are, for instance). I think it’d be a great way to add more importance to the main bar skills, and, in fact, is something we used to have before ship.

There was a time in balance when #1 skills across the board were said to be “too ineffective” by many players to be used. So we made an effort to bump them up and make them more impact-full on the game, so that they didn’t feel like a waste of the #1 slot. There was also a time when most skills had higher recharges, and longer activation times/aftercasts.

From much player feedback, we found that by lowering recharges and cast times, the game FELT better for the person using skills. But, as you guys have said, sometimes it feels like you aren’t punishing by making someone waste a long-cooldown skill, or you aren’t rewarded for interrupting a powerful skill because it comes back too quickly.

Just wanted to say that we agree with you guys, but we have to balance the risk/rewards vs. how good the game feels to pay.

Thanks for all the great ideas! We’re definitely listening.

[API Suggestion] Guilds

Hi coderjoe,

Yes, we do have plans to offer guild and character APIs in an authenticated fashion (via OAuth2) – but secured to a particular user. For example, you would programmatically be able to obtain last-login/representation information for yourself, not any arbitrary user in your guild.

It sounds like what you would like is some enhanced permissions for guild leaders to obtain members’ guild stats. We will definitely keep this in mind when implementing the guild APIs. Thank you for the suggestion.

Hey guys I was getting ready to post some info for you, but saw this thread and thought it would be the most fitting place. I’ve been reading through the threads so far and wanted to write on a few points brought up.

Our team’s put a great deal of effort into getting this new dungeon path right, so that it is both challenging and fun. We’re comprised of folks that worked on the Aetherblade Retreat, as well as myself from Molten Facility, so we’ve been putting everything we’ve learned from the past months’ development into what we think is a pretty exciting experience.

There’s a whole lot to do in this dungeon, even after the final boss is downed. Expect some nods to the existing TA paths, as well as a few to previous Living World dungeons. You’ve probably already seen some in the screenshots & trailer released so far.

Our hope is that once you get in there, you’ll see why this is the primary thing we’ve been working on. That said, Halloween is just around the corner, and you won’t be waiting too long after Twilight Assault to see what we’ve got in store for you with this year’s Mad King shindig.

On Dulfy’s Map, make sure you have gotten numbers 13, 16 and 20 at the center bottom. I remember doing this and I swore I got all of them and found that apparently #13 was missed, if I recall correctly.

What world/server are you on? Perhaps I can join up with you to help ensure you get all of them without missing any.

If you look at the date of when Halloween started last year, you’d see that it wasn’t until the 22nd of October.

We have 3 living world releases in October. It’s very likely Halloween will start the 15th of October this year with something else thrown in on the 29th relating to whatever we get on the 15th.

We’re changing it so that glory is only rewarded at the end of a match, which should stop the exploit where players leave and rejoin the match. We are also actively looking into other options to prevent this exploiting.

Thanks for the report!

How low has your server gotten Tequatl?

Blacktide: We took him about 10%… Its impossible on this server. IMPOSSIBLE

If you got him to 10%, you’re really close!

You might have already done this, but if not — on the very last phase, after the 3rd laser defense, have EVERYONE except the people actually firing cannons at Tequatl run in and DPS like there’s no tomorrow. If you’re getting to the last phase, you’re really really close!

Have a bunch of people use Fire Elemental Powder right when he touches down as well to help with the DPS. Also, I hope he’s setting down Plate of Orrian Steak Frittes 15 minutes before he pops and that everybody is picking them up. The +100 Power and +70 Vitality for 1 hour really helps here, as does using a Powerful Potion of Undead Slaying for the 1 hour +10% damage to the undead and the -10% damage from undead.

If anybody has these going along with people using Ice Bows and Fiery Greatswords as well as any skills that help DPS going, the damage players can rack up in such a small amount of time is insane. I was doing 8K+ damage from my Longbow at the farthest range, and my bow is carrion!

Support Roles - WXP rewards?!

The main issue currently with rewarding support classes is the way that participation is determined by the game. It makes it much harder to provide sufficient incentive to people doing things like healing, defending, etc. We have some ideas to try and improve this situation, but it is complicated. The best example I can give is the events to escort the supply dolyaks, which literally just say you helped if you are standing there when it ends, which is not an accurate representation of much of anything.

Until the systems are all capable of properly determining support, it’s difficult to properly reward support and defense. We are working on solutions that I hope will make it somewhat better, however.

Even a cap raise to at least ten would still be too much? Because at the moment it sometimes feels like 5 is too small

Raising it even one would have significant performance impact because you need to think of it over an equation that causes that to multiply very quickly. Until and unless there are significant changes in the engine, which isn’t on the table, we will not be raising the cap on player skill AoE.

Queen Jennah has simply discovered that shoes are overrated, and lives her life barefoot. Think of how much money she has saved the kingdom, not having to buy her shoes for every occasion! ;-)

Seriously though, there are at least a handful of us devs who practice a barefoot lifestyle. I’m sure some people will always think it’s “weird”, but at least around the studio, it’s become just another facet in a diverse workplace.
