Epistemic.8013: Guys this is bullkitten a sentient plant creature is hitting these
wooden doors with fireballs and it’s working.
[TKS] succeeded. Making Vabbi the second EU server.
Edit: 2:25 left on the clock
It takes 15 minutes to do it. If you win, you get massive rewards. If you lose, well tough luck, you lost 15 minutes.
What’s the problem?
Am i the only person wondering why the mods/developers only react the posts like ‘how is tequatl announced’? While there are now like 10000 posts about the difficulty with no decent answer …
Those servers who have succeeded have already given you your answer…the answer is, “it’s doable”. What more do you want?
So Tarnished Coast just beat Tequatl and I totally understand why this is open world now. It’s not about proving that your small group is good. It’s not about proving your guild can do it. It’s about your entire server. It’s about building up the community by teaching each other and planning out a strategy. It’s about hopping in a voice chat, meeting people and discussion. I feel so close to my server after this fight. We spent hours with over a hundred TCers and felt that “Boss Rush” feeling. Getting a little bit closer to killing him with each attempt. 95% -> 80% -> 51% -> 20% -> 0%.
The more of these you make, the better. I absolutely love this content type. I had the honor of leading the group last night and it was so much fun (we got himto 20%!). Today at around 3, we killed him
(Different commander). Thing is though, it wasn’t just about one good commander, or even 3! It was about all of us.
If this was instanced, it no long becomes about the server, it becomes about the select few that some exclusive group allows in. Anyone can join us in killing him, and that’s the best part. GW2 is about everyone working together, and that is what Tequatl has brought us.
Shatner, I hope we see you buffed next
.
Not sure if this affects how you feel about it or not, but the Tequatl The Sunless group of achievements is there to stay — so you have the foreseeable future to get this achievement.
This. I also have no sympathy considering just about every server’s population is trying to guest to Blackgate. I know it’s not your guys’ fault that people would rather take the easy way instead of working and exerting effort for their success, but the fact remains.
TC killed it. Crashed just before and got absolutely nothing.
Thanks, Obama.
So your server has less then 80 people playing?
The thing is to the average open world zerg this is impossible.
Why should everything in the game be doable by the “average open world zerg”?
It shouldn’t be. But content they expect to be completed IN THE OPEN WORLD must be.
If the content isn’t expected to be completed by the “open world zerg,” they need to place it in a guild-only instance, where it isn’t accessible by open-world players.
Guild missions are also completed in the open world, and zergballs regularly fail them too.
Also, it has been 12 hours since the update and you’ve already doomed this as impossible?
Do you give up on everything in your life after the first try?
Wait a week for a general strategy to form and for people to understand the fight. If it’s still too “hard” at that point, then consider nerfing it.
People thought AC and CoF were too hard and begged for nerfs. Didn’t happen, still turned out easy/farmable by the general population.

From the perspective of a guester on BG yesterday, everyone was quite hospitable in the teamspeak as long as the people were willing to work, and even went so far as to tell us that some of their guilds were recruiting, should we wish to make BG our home. The group of people in VOIP were nothing short of incredible; organized, dedicated, and supportive of one another, spending each hour between fights discussing strategy, handing out free food to people who needed buffs, and gearing up to do it again. Once they beat him, I have it on stream that the first thing people said (after congrats) was that they needed to tell the other servers that communication is key—which it is.
It was also my experience that exceedingly few people actually did guest. From Tarnished Coast it was only me and another guild member in the Teamspeak. And after the kill, we immediately left the server, returning to our own and have been trying to help the TC mumble do the fight all day. I know it can be frustrating to feel like your home server is being invaded and that BG natives aren’t getting priority in order to get into the instance. So, for my part in taking up server spots, I apologize. However, I knew that BG would be the server to learn from, and I worked just as hard as everyone else.
I have the utmost respect for the people on Blackgate, they did an amazing job and have been able to replicate it through skill and dedication. Now I just hope I can help do my part to ensure that TC completes the fight.
Those rewards are a bit too high, but I do agree with the idea in general of giving him better rewards. My reward schedule would look more like:
75% Health
1 guaranteed rare
2 exotic boxes
15% chance at an exotic weapon50% Health
1 guaranteed rare
2 exotic boxes
25% chance at an exotic weapon25% Health
2 guaranteed rares
35% chance at an exotic weapon
4 exotic boxes0%, You successfully downed him.
6 rares and 2 guaranteed exotic weapons
6 exotic boxes
50% chance for an additional exotic weapon
15% chance for an ascended weapon
7.5% chance for a Tequatl ascended weaponYou don’t understand
Its not that high, its like 2.5% to get what you want.
In time, people will be downing him regularly. You don’t want to make ascended crafting invalidated.
No, he will be nerfed instead. Currently hes a waste of time.
Have you ever played a game like Lineage 2 with big open world bosses (Antharas, Baium, Lilith)? Those required alliances of guilds to take down, aka hundreds of organized players. Tequatl is like these bosses. He’s not content designed to be facerolled.
(edited by TheKillerAngel.3596)
No if youre a casual player then dont. Frankly even if you beat Tequatl the rewards are trash and not worth whatever you went through in those 15 minutes….
You’re right. Ascended weapons are garbage. I mean..why waste a whole 15 minutes on this boss fight for a chance at a drop that could be one of the best weapons in the game.
“acceptable levels” well thats your opinion …
Just to clarify, my best try got him down to 50%. So yeah I think the fight its ok, people will learn it and give 2 weeks max people will do this without using TS or other mass voice communication program
Greetings Dream,
Allow me to take a moment to answer some of your questions and hopefully alleviate your concerns. In regards to your first question concerning posts and threads being removed, allow me to quote another member of our Community team who addressed this concern earlier this month:
Our Forum Code of Conduct is very clear regarding what is acceptable discussion. It’s true; we do not allow “I quit” threads or threads created simply to complain. We DO allow negative threads, as long as it remains constructive and respectful. Not just respectful towards each other, but also to our staff, which includes the Moderation Team, Dev Team, and more.
…
Our goal is to allow our community to express their thoughts and desires for the game, but not at the expense of our welcoming and respectful spaces.
That said, threads and posts are removed because they violate the forum code of conduct. We do not remove posts simply because we don’t like what people are saying. In short, it’s not what people say, but how they say it. As long as people engage in critical discussions in a way that treats developers and community members respectfully, there should not be an issue.
However, we are human and we do make mistakes. Which is why we encourage you to email forums@arena.net if you believe a moderation action was made in error.
We are always seeking to improve with moderation on the forums and having the opportunity to correct mistakes and educate those involved is the first step towards doing so.
In response to your question about how we collect and pass on feedback, the simple answer is “yes”. We have a rotating schedule of all the subforums, ensuring that each subforum is reviewed regularly and feedback from each subforum is passed on to the developers. Additionally, after an update, feedback is gathered from forums most affected by the update. In the case of the most recent update, WvW made up a significant amount of the feedback, and yes the negative feedback was included as part of that report. To be frank, I personally spent my entire afternoon yesterday reading and gathering feedback from the WvW subforum for yesterday’s report.
I cannot make promises regarding what actions the development teams will take based on the feedback we provide, but I can promise that they do hear your feedback, either by reading it directly here on the forums or through the reports we send them each day.
As part of the Community team, communication with players is always at the forefront of our minds and we’re always looking at methods to make improvements in that field. That said, we will leave this thread open today, so you can ask further questions, and share your concerns. Please note that if the discussion does not stay civil or constructive, we’ll close the thread.
Our hope is that by leaving this open for discussion, we can show that we are listening and working to improve our processes.
I’m noticing a trend. People are forgetting the importance of a victory. People seem to be UPSET that we were able to take down Tequatl, and not them. A victory shows that a method worked, and that luck is not a factor involved.
Blackgate did everything that we could to set ourselves up for success. We used teamspeak, we had a dedicated commander calling most of the shots, we had supporting commanders calling out shockwaves, calling out timers, calling out turret health statuses. On top of all that, we had people attempting the event since the patch hit (9 hours of playing, and planning), learning what worked and what didn’t work.
This is in no way a “Blackgate is the best” post, this is a “Learn from someone who has done it before under the best case scenario” post. Blackgate laid the groundwork.
We linked a video earlier, uploaded by our resident Kiwi, Flickky/Landsplash taken from her Twitch account which includes Teamspeak sound source whereas we have all of our chatter and commands, calls, ideas, and executions detailed. Please view it, and use whatever information you think will help you to defeat Tequatl.
This being said, in no way did Blackgate do everything right. I started a small discussion on Teamspeak after the fight stating that I believe we could have reduced our deaths significantly by moving out of the AOE circles as a group once there are 4 or more stacked in one zone. It seems as though they follow large groups, one circle at a time, giving you a chance to get your health back up, without the constant harass of them. Besides my suggestion, we had a lot more suggestions come up as well to improve the run.
In time, if enough people attempt it and understand the mechanics, eventually the information will spread to new people each and every attempt. Soon, using Teamspeak might not even be needed because the mechanics will be second nature to everyone.
For those wondering about our numbers, 110-120 of the people who were on Teamspeak are from Blackgate. We know this because we had verified our users ahead of time and those who joined Teamspeak for Tequatl (around 10) were unregistered guests, who might have been from Blackgate originally, but never verified. If the 150 persons per map capacity is true, that means that only 20 people were not on Teamspeak for the fight.
I hope that people stop saying “Bandwagon” and “Native”, like any of that stuff matters. What matters is that the people who were dedicated enough to stay on the entire time it took leading up to the victory were the ones who showed it is possible, and gave you a good idea of how to achieve victory on your own server.

It’s only been 24 hours, folks. Many players, along with myself, were dorking around behind Tequatl trying to get the Tail accomplishment.
Things will coalesce with time. Expecting elite-level teamwork from public players after just a couple attempts is unrealistic and naive. Try to be real about this and keep it all in perspective.
Let me make this simple.
99.9% of the content in Guild Wars 2 is Easy Mode
For over a year now those of us that like a challenge have not found it in Guild Wars 2. Since this patch .1% of the content in Guild Wars 2 actually is designed for us that like a challenge.
If you don’t want challenge you have 2 options. 1: Play the rest of the content in Guild Wars 2, or 2: Play FreeRealms. That might be more your speed.
It’s about time that we have a HARD dragon to kill. The fact he died in the first day actually means he’s not only killable but he might be too easy. I spent 2 years trying to kill the Glimmerking in DAOC before we finally killed him. A hard fight is a remembered fight.
I misread your post and said it was my mistake. Be a good sport and leave it alone. No one likes a bully.
learn to read please.
My mistake. Calm down please tough guy.
IMHO the dragon should be killable with 3:30 seconds available on the timer. and this is not the case.
He was killed with a bit over 2:00 to spare on BG during their first kill. This was with massive amounts of death in Phase 1, and also a Bone Wall going up.
It’s only a 15 minute fight. So there’re no worries if you’ve got only an hour to play. If you fail, then move onto something else, if you succeed then yay!
Oh you didnt know. When the fight starts, if you type /godmode within 0.0007373 seconds after he lands, you can one shot him with a rainbow fart attack
slow claps
Let matters take their course , people will learn and the experience will be much better. You don’t need to beat any content after 1 day after release did you ? This will be permanent, relax.
It’s like this now because no one knows what the eff they are doing. Just wait and you will see the community come together to defeat him. Sir Herpalot (sounds like he’s been with too many hookers) will disappear. Eventually you will be left with players like you continuing to try and defeat Teq. Failing is hated universally. The ones that don’t want to put the effort into winning will just stop showing up because of the repair/WP costs associated with wiping constantly. In time the ones with the perseverance to learn the fight will be the only ones showing up.
Guys, Tequatl came out YESTERDAY!
And it has ALREADY BEEN BEATEN (see here: http://www.twitch.tv/flickky/c/2951634)
Seriously stop complaining about it being too hard. 90% of people still have no idea what to do.
Give it time.
If you watch the video, sure they had some good coordination but there was lots of room for improvement (several people could not dodge/jump the waves).
And it DOES NOT REQUIRE VOICE COMM! Just people who are skilled and know how to react. Warriors: bring your warbanners. Eles: bring your icebow/fiery greatsword. 90% of the time the commander was just calling for cleanses and more ice bows lol. This is something players should be able to figure out themselves.
Ever try a dungeon for the first time? Ever try a dungeon for the first time with voice comm? It’s much easier of course especially when everyone is learning, but it is NOT necessary.
Stop calling for nerf and instead learn, adapt (l2play).
TLDR:- is anet manipulating the trading post that’s supposed to be player driven?
No.
Awesome and your source?
No.
Lol, I checked it out at the timestamp – and man, that is what makes me love this game. I hope ANet keeps bringing stuff like THIS. Grats, Deso! It’s a great feeling, isn’t it
!!! Your cheering at the end got my pumped even more to take Teq down a 2nd time tonight after reset
**Edit: I literally got so excited, I spilled my drink on my desk after typing this

There’s entirely too much whining in this thread. Too many of you think that the game is broken just because you couldn’t topple the new-and-intentionally-difficult epic boss on day 1. This could have easily gone the other way and we could all instead be complaining about how lame the new content is because the boss is so easy. Is that what you want?
Stop complaining, step up, and help coordinate something constructive like the Blackgate players did. And if you’re a whiner on Darkhaven, please do switch servers; we’re better off without you.
as far as i know PoserGate got help from devs, at least the GW2 fb said they helped them…which isnt legit in my book, they had people that worked on the event there helping.
