How does a thief go against it? Short bow? have you tried kiting a war.

I think what you meant to ask was:
How does a class with Stealth, Extremely High Mobility, and a weapon with a Teleport, kite someone who has 1 gap closer (rush) on a 20 second cooldown?

Obviously the answer is to buff Thieves.

PS: If he has Regen Signet, he’s weaker vs spike damage. If he has Surge, he’s weaker vs attrition. And if he has mending, he’s weaker vs both (but strong vs condis). I shouldn’t even need to say this.

Chess is a crappy tactical turn based RPG developed by a bunch of monkeys.

Right away you’ll notice Chess has no storyline. Instead, all you notice is the the White army and the Black army are fighting each other over a battlefield. Note the “a battlefield,” because Chess only has one story map.

As for the actual combat, it’s extremely dull. Each unit can kill another with only one hit. This means units with a real good movement ability dominate the field (more on that bellow). There aren’t even any combat animations or anything that happens in combat. One unit moves on it’s space and “captures” it, and the piece is removed from the game with no form of action or special effects.

Yawn.

Chess has kittenty class balance. The Queen is flat out overpowered while your actual front line units, the Pawns. can’t do kitten. I think the developers were afraid that no one would use the female character so they buffed up her abilities really high but now theres no point in using any other unit.

The rest of the units suck. Rooks can only move in 4 directions, same with Bishops. Boring. Also, whats up with the Knight? It has the most bizzare combat abilities of all the units. They’re kittenly hard to use cause they jump around like kittens to move and attack. The devs should have named this unit Ninja, since Knights didn’t jump around like that in real life.

Worst part, is the king. You see, the devs decided that if your king gets captured, you instantly lose the game. W-T-F? This wouldn’t be a problem, except that he can’t move for crap. Seriously, the most important unit in the game can only move 1 space a turn? Good luck keeping him alive while every other unit in the game dances around him.

Unbalanced classes, lackluster gameplay, and not to mention repetitive 1 hour+ games. Chess is not worth the time or your money.

3 out of 10.

This is a different kind of petition, without any rant or balance-yelp.

Honestly the battles, roams and skirmishes I feel the most epic thrill at, are when it is raining ingame.
I gives me the sense of a tense hunt or battleparty and that anytime anything could happen.

I woul really love to have dark and rainy evenings and nights on the borderlands from time to time. Not with the stereotypical wolves howling but you should really hear the rain a bit, making other noises more difficult to note.
All that snowing is nice and I like the northern BL landscapes, but I mean… RAIN.

Am I alone with this?

Karma Changes: Temporary Rollback

in News and Announcements

Hi everybody,

Today we made adjustments to karma where the amount of karma granted from consumable karma items was increased and karma boosts no longer affected the amount of karma gained from consumable items.

We intended to message this change ahead of time to be fair to everyone, however this did not happen, and we apologize for not giving you advance notice.

The lack of advance warning resulted in some people losing out on karma that they would have otherwise gained by using boosts with the karma they’d saved up.

We will be temporarily rolling back the karma change in a hotfix to allow people the opportunity to turn in their karma with any buffs they intended to use. This temporary rollback will be in effect until the game update on September 3.

  • Please note, while this temporary rollback is in effect: the in-game text for the karma consumables booster found on the Gem Store will incorrectly state that it does not affect karma gained from consumable items.

We will also be reimbursing the people who used their karma during the period when the initial change was in effect with as close to the correct amount of karma as possible.

We’re really sorry about the frustration this caused and we will make every effort in the future to make you aware of changes like this ahead of time.

I don’t like how she graduated from all three colleges. For an asura, it is an incredibly important decision in his/her life which college to join, since it decides your entire future. And here we have Scarlet, without previous mention whatsoever, being possibly the first and only person to attend and GRADUATE from all three colleges. In record time, even.

If that isn’t Villain Sue, I don’t even

This is totally our fault, we dropped the ball on this plain and simple. We planned to have this messaged ahead of time to be fair to everyone, communication broke down between those who knew it was supposed to be messaged, and those who were supposed to message it and it simply didn’t happen.

As game director this is ultimately my fault first and foremost, and I’m sorry for those who potentially lost some karma as a result. It is our policy to message these kind of changes ahead of time with lots of warning, I’ll do everything possible to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.

I’d recommend not using your karma consumables yet, give us a day or two to try and see what options we have available to help mitigate the issue.

Spectral attunement not applying bonuses

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: War Mourner.5168

War Mourner.5168

Spectral attunement is supposed to give 5% LF wehn you activate spectral skills, and increase their duration.
In a recent patch spectral grasp was changed to give 15% from it’s previous 10% LF on use. While it still increases the duration of the chill, it no longer grants extra LF (shuld be 20% now with the trait)
The trait last gasp activates the skills spectral armor at 50% HP, but unlike the actual utility skill, is completely uneffected by spectral attunement. It’s not effected by spectral mastery either.

(I have a few of these I’m going to post john, I was going to make one thread per issue, but if it’s easier for you I can make it in a single thread or something.)

Snaff is stuck in 1885.
Lion’s Arch was demolished by a 50 foot tall holographic woman.
Queen Jennah is a killer android sent from the future, by Aethernet, to kill Logan Thackeray.
Evil Future Zojja is behind the Steam Mech invasion.
Livia (aka ‘Scarlet’) has come out of hiding and raised Orr to use Zhaitan as a tool to stop Zojja, Aethernet, Jennah and Holo-Kiel and to rescue Snaff from a certain death at the hands of ‘Mad Karka’ Kasmeer. But you ruined it, all of you. You just had to kill an undead Elder Dragon that wasn’t harming anyone. He was only trying to help.

Now Scarlet will turn all of you into undead. It’s the only way she can defeat Aethernet and Future Zojja. I hope you are happy.

What happened to the shrine of Balthazar?

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Alleluia.1320

Alleluia.1320

The actual shrine to Balthazar is near the Balthazar waypoint. Yes his statue used to be down there but I’m fairly certain the human god of warfare doesn’t mind having a secondary shrine replaced by an arena.

It wasn’t an oversight. There wasn’t any need for the second, smaller shrine down there.

Except that it was cool and an rp hotspot (at least for Tarnished Coast and, apparently, Drakkar Lake).

Is there a chance we’ll get it back and the Royal Terrace moved to some other spot? Or, if it absolutely has to be, the shrine moved to another spot?

(EDIT: Forgot to say, thanks for the response. I know this isn’t a huge issue like the fight over the Gauntlet being permanent or not so I appreciate it.)

You did have a few nice ideas in there, but a lot of your ideas are just plain stupid or don’t fix the problems you have. Like the one that targets zerging and the one that targets camp flippers, just NO. Those two ideas are HORRIBLE, people should not be punished for having a preferred playstyle because you don’t like it. People should be encourage to do every sort of playstyle that they want, not discouraged to do them all.

Oh. In that case, my preferred playstyle involves a magical flying unicorn that carries me into any tower or keep, at which point the enemies immediately defect to my side and build a shrine in my honor. Additionally, my steed can poo on demand, and rain death from above whilst I stay out of range.
It’s my preferred playstyle. Don’t discourage it.
Make it happen Anet.

No, common sense says if a game isn’t in a good place for e-sports, and needs a lot of help balancing, you don’t push it into something it isn’t ready for and hold balancing off. Like I said, dev hosted pvp events are fine, but don’t throw fixing the game to the curb just to do so.

Time Gating is a terrible idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

I think they feel that they didn’t have any other option.

There are so many locusts in the game, that simply gobble up any new content and then shriek ‘gimme gimme gimme’ like a group of harpies, that I seems like ANet felt enough was enough. Time gating makes these types of players slow down, giving the devs breathing room to continue work at a reasonable pace. Unfortunately this impacts ‘normal’ players that don’t simple gobble up the content as fast as they can.

Honestly, I think they should have just ignored the locusts, and continued as per normal. Obviously though, they felt the need to address the issue.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Id also expect that everyone who made a profit in this way be stripped of this gold and banned because, as we know from the Snowflake exploit, ANET look down on those that deliberately play to ruin the economy.

Anet intentionally and knowingly designed it so you pay an entry fee and an optional boasting fee, and, if you win, you are rewarded. No bugs were used or abused in that video, or any video I have seen of this. Everything is working as intended. If you want to call it an oversight and poorly designed fight, then that would be accurate, but stop calling everything that needs to be nerfed a “bug” or an “exploit”; they are not umbrella terms.

The “first boss”? I’m pretty sure at least half the enemies you encounter in there have frequent one-shot mechanics. And most of them have very subtle tells on top of it.
The Queen’s Gauntlet is a microcosm of every mistake one can make in designing special fight mechanics.

Disclaimer: I’m not being entirely serious about the whole Living Story thing, but I find all of this rather amusing given the amount of work put into the Guild Wars Lore through the three novels, the story events added in original Guild Wars during the GW2 pre-release hype, and the tie-ins such as Ogden, the Vizier’s Tower, etc.

So, the Queen’s Jubilee is a part of the Living Story yet people seem focused entirely on the gameplay — which is fine and I’ve seen some valid concerns which should be addressed. That said, I’ve been thinking about this Living Story segment and the implications of Queen Jennah’s rule within the context of the Living Story.

  1. Queen Jennah’s spent an extravagant amount of money gathered from her subjects to build a “Pavilion” which is, in reality, a Colosseum dedicated to having people fight to the death for her own amusement. (Ignoring the malfunctioning watchknights and thinking entirely of their purpose plus the gauntlet which kills you if you fail.)
  2. Her “Champions” out in the world are all forced to wear pink in her honour and I’ve seen them kill friendly NPCs (in a story context these are farmers, hunters, traders, and other commoners) during their “duels” with the challenging players.
  3. Jennah’s had balloon towers built in other countries. Are we even sure that the Asura and the other races gave permission for these towers? The Asura even harass their own merchants within Rata Sum over licensing and paperwork!
  4. The balloon towers are often in very dangerous zones, putting the pilots in peril. I’ve seen one in the middle of an inquest zone, some surrounded by dangerous and aggressive beasts, and another surrounded by icebrood (dragon minions!). What kind of queen orders her non-combatant pilots to stand ready in a hostile zone at all times?
  5. Her watchknights were made with her permission, so their function as naked-female looking battle robots had to pass her approval and she probably gave her own artistic direction to their building.
  6. Queen Jennah seems to have an endless supply of battle-ready watchknights, which could be used against her enemies, be they dragons or another nation. I’m sure Seperatists on both sides will be wanting to either steal them or destroy them, depending on if they’re human or charr.
  7. The sovereign weapons are in her own honor and thus are probably carved in her own image (albeit not looking much like her, but after spending all that money on balloons, Pavilion, and an endless army of watchknights, what can you expect?) further glorifying herself in this event.
  8. All of this is in celebration of her own 10th anniversary as ruler.
  9. All of this at the cost of her subjects’ taxes and labor.

I’ve truly enjoyed the lore involved in Guild Wars and just thinking about this particular Living Story segment has had some disturbing implications if applied to the Guild Wars actual story. Queen Jennah seems to be a self-absorbed tyrant, all things considered. She had stated that the Colosseum/Pavilion was to represent Kryta’s success in fending off enemies, but all of her actions combined in this segment of story speak more of her lust for violence and her disregard for the lives of the heroes who have volunteered to fight dragons in order to keep her and everyone else safe.

Why is it always temple?
