Thank you for the fix!

You bet! Matt said it would be soon, and it was!

For those who missed it:

Update notes state: “The “Defeat the Inquest to prevent them from capturing the Ley-Energy Coalescence” event will now create player-specific versions of the ley-energy items to reduce competition.”

Seems to me that’s problem solved.

Do let us have your feedback on the event now that this has been sorted, ok?

There is a big general issue outside of this (and inclusive) – since the elite specs have made everyone super killing machines, a lot of champion event chains, event farms like Frostgorge Sound are becoming so frustrating especially for people loading on slower computers because once you get there the things are dead and you get no credit (and believe me, I know about this because I was running on a very slow pc for the game until recently). People say things like “keep up” or “know the waypoint rotation” but I’m sorry, since when should wanting to take part in a few random champs while you level or map complete require this kind of prior knowledge? It just seems pretty unfair. They need to raise champs’ HP IMO.

Picking up has always been an issue for me; like one poster above, I swear a lot of the time my character does the ‘pick up’ animation but the other person gets it. A lot of times it frustrates me that players see other players going for an object, yet still are determined to try and ‘beat you to it’. I just hope, like others that this’ll be around for a while to give me an opportunity to do this event.

I have done 7 events, and so far I have managed to get 2 ley-line energy balls….

This contention for “resources” belongs in an open-world PvP game with mob/kill stealing and node/resource battles; not introduced in GW2 like this.

Please patch and make the ball pump out a dozen more ley-line energy balls so everyone can get this achievement.

I need a total of 60 of these for both achievements… you planning on keeping this event running until LS3 is launched after summer? It sure will take that amount of time to get it done at least…

I think the easiest way to fix this is to just do nothing. Even today there were noticeably less people. I managed to finish this up in about 15 events total.

By the time the weekend is over you will be able to get all 60 in 5 events tops.

By next weekend you will probably be able to do this in a single event.

Poor design but don’t waste time changing anything, just learn the lesson and design the next one better.

ArenaNet responded to concerns about this event over on Reddit (of course). Here:

hey all, thought I’d respond to this thread (because it is currently the highest ranked of the few on the topic). The way this is playing out is certainly not intended, and we’re working on some changes to it right now. Not really sure yet when any changes will get out (the NPC’s are pretty dependent on the way it currently works), but hopefully we can have something soon.

Can I be very cynical about this? This event should have never been designed this way. What was the intention from ArenaNet for this event? It let players compete with other players in PvE over resources/nodes. The fact that GW2 does NOT let players compete in PvE over resources is one of the most important features of the game! It is the reason a lot of players like GW2 that do not like other MMO’s. How is it possible that an event that promotes competition in PvE even made it into the game?

The only good thing about this event so far was the short and very cynical discussion in guild chat I had 15 minutes ago. Where two other members showed their appreciation for this event

If both researchers would only start on different time slots, so the “event zombies” can hop from Priory event to Consortium and back again, it would at least reduce the waiting time.
Right now, it is a “best ping = least frustration” event, which is very annoying.
I am waiting for a fix and stopped waiting for a researcher.

I’m relatively sure there are more PvEer’s in this game than PvPer’s.

And if they made the changes you want, there wouldn’t be more people playing PvE. There’d be far less people playing PvE. That’s my opinion, anyway.

These games don’t get dumbed down because their player base goes down. They get dumbed down because their player base goes up…or they wouldn’t do it.

You may thing everyone wants the same things you want, but I’m relatively certain that’s not the case.

Anet really dropped the ball on this. Whoever decided to link achievements to this aspect of the event needs to be sat down and have the core principles of GW2 explained to them. The event itself is fine, and there are even other events with items behaving the same way. But those events are typically not linked to achievements, and especially not limited-time achievements.

I did a couple events without even noticing the items on the ground because I was focused on what seemed to be the primary aspect of the event, the Inquest attack. After looking into the achievements, I started noticing the dropped items and managed to grab a few of them during one event. However, I think I will just be ignoring these achievements until they are fixed, as I have no interest in contributing to this counter-productive gameplay.

This wouldn’t be the first time Anet produces content that contradicts basic principles of the game.
Whatever happened to -in GW2 we want players to work together, feel good when they see other players around them, and not compete against each other-.?
Many times I get the feeling that the game is made by teams working in different buildings, and not a coherent team working under the same roof.

This issue needs more visibility. This achievement pits players directly against each other.

It’s not a bad event in design. We just need 50 times more ley energies spawning to make it less cutthroat.

They also need to make it scale better for the collecting part. Even with massive zergs it still doesn’t last very long.

I thought the whole point of this game was to get away from node competitions. I’m having WoW flashbacks, and not the fun parts.

This seems like a bug.

Such items should be per player objects, not shared.

You can see per-player objects in many events and renown hearts, so each player can pick them individually.

Otherwise this would put players against players, and that goes against the very soul of the game.

Basically, we are now playing GWoW – Guildwars World Of Warcraft. Fun. Next competing for ore nodes.

Someone on the subreddit said it best: One of the best parts of PvE in this game is the fact that collectible/harvesting items are an instance and not competitive.

I’ve done the Priory event a few times, picking up only one ley energy each time. And that was only because they spawned right where my character happened to be standing and no one else was around.

I don’t really understand why it needs to be so competitive.

Edit: I imagine it must be super frustrating if you’re trying to do this with a high ping.

Edit x2: Just did an event and wasn’t able to pick up a single ley energy. And the event was over within a minute. Fun. Hope these events stick around for a while so I can get ’em a shot without so many people around to compete with.

Just make the progress tied to the group instead of the individual. If there’s 30 items turned in everyone gets credit for said 30 items.

Isn’t that the entire point of the co-operative group structure PvE was supposed to have…..

Season 1 mistakes all over again.

Needs to be personal drops for you. Basically promotes just ignoring the event and watching for bundles to steal. Also the events are over way too quickly.

So, two of the achievements added today require you to pick up Ley Energy items off the ground and turn them into the converter/machine/thing during the inquest events. As it is right now, it is really difficult to pick up more than maybe two or three of these per event (unless you just get lucky and no one else is standing near you when they spawn). This is partially because of the large number of players currently doing the events. But hostile AND friendly NPCs are also picking up the ley energy before players can even get to them, which means (obviously) there are even fewer items to collect for the achievements.

This isn’t an EXTREMELY important thing at all, I know. Plus, I’d imagine it’s not a quick thing to change, but I think the friendly NPCs shouldn’t be able to pick up event items players need for achievements.

me and my gf had an issue with this as well. the torches cast no light at all in the maze, only the glowing orb that you’re supposed to follow around (but only one person can see that).

we both play full screen mode, so that wasn’t the issue.

edit: added a screenie I took just now. you can see the faint purple glow of the torch on the right side that isn’t casting any light.

it gets slightly lighter with light adaptation turned on (which I don’t play with), but the torches still cast no light.

Thanks for sharing that screenshot. Good to know you were playing in full-screen, as I’m often surprised how much lighting changes when I flip between the two modes. I’ll see if a team member can cast an eye (if not some light ) on this subject.

I completed the Wayandt’s Revenge JP last night

I thought I spied a ranger with a small frog on her shoulder, but I thought I was imagining things, since there is (as yet) no frog-themed armor.

Ah I didn’t see you, sorry I missed the chance to say “howdy.” Funny you should say what you did, because I actually was playing with a small Siamese kitty on my shoulder. Franklin is a dedicated gamer, even though I sometimes make him jump when I pound the “jump-you-feckless-Ranger-dang-you!” space bar too hard.

In truth, I probably missed you because I am pretty terrible at JPs so I was very, very focused. I swear, there should be an achievement: “Go Go Rescue Ranger: Res Gaile at the bottom of a JP.” The only problem is, everyone in the game would get it, so why bother?

I still don’t see why there is a need for a daily point cap. Oh well, there goes a lot of incentive to do dailies. Thanks ANeT. Looks like the artificial cap to allow everyone to catch up actually holds people back from catching up. At the pace that points are available it’ll take many months just to get the next chest.
