PvP-wise… Eng… if you’re good at it. Not because it’s the strongest, but it takes a lot of skill to play well. I would have said Ele before… but they their instantly available vapor form and were thus granted the best downed state in the game by far.

The dev’s long ago said they were against doing this as it leads to tons of greifing and the server splitting into its own sort of factions vs promoting all players to help each other within their own server. The closest thing this game has to this is WvW.

Just dance on them, or sit and emote. Works every time. In case of dead mesmer, look for a thief, then commence dancing on them both once the thief is dead.
Seriously, though, you should get auto rezzed at your spawn after being completely dead.
This is exactly why I do what I do with the jumping/taunting after they are dead. There are a few very persistent people that still won’t res though : / It’s fine if they are allowed to stay for a res… but 10 mins is excessive… and there should be a way for the other team to burn the corpses to force a res.

It’s probably just server load/latency errors. You can always clear your system’s temp files to be sure but it honestly has a low chance of doing anything.
Yea atm it is… but I’ve lagged hard before in this matchup when it was 8v8 or less… and my comp is always squeaky clean

We didn’t have THAT many players… and BG certainly didn’t have a lot on at that hour.
We’ve had more on both sides fighting without these issues when we were in T3… and it doesn’t happen in SOR’s area… there were times when it was an 8v8 or less just clearing out a small group from a supply camp… and it was still locking people out of their skills. Anyone know what was/is causing this?
It’s been happening to us too recently. Attacks would would be going off right on cue for a while, then take 5 or 6 seconds to activate, seemingly at random
I’m kinda wondering if the long physical distance between US players and Thai players is causing the lag… like… does the server wait for the opponents to register the first attack before it allows us to do another? Did they change something with the servers that wasn’t in the patch notes?

DD thief is a foo strat just like 100b wars. It’s there for new players to have something somewhat powerful with ease… but also easily countered.
Learn to counter their 1 trick. All burst dmg thieves do the same exact thing every single time.
Yes the reveal timer should be increased and they should appear faster… but at the very least you shouldn’t be dying from them…

To clarify I didn’t mean stealth is dropped when damaged, I meant they should lose stealth when they decide to attack someone which means no multiple attacks while invisible. Thieves will still manage to attack singular targets with ease but will have to make decisions on engaging more than one enemy like everyone else.
It technically does… you can target them (via tab) the second that they attack.
However, they are not shown on your screen due to other problems… If you play a mesmer you’ll see your illusions start to attack them long before they actually show up visually to you the player.

I refuse to play my theif until this is fixed (as well as some other issues with thief). It’s basically a class that functions by constantly exploiting bugs as it is right now.
You can still tell where the thief is if you can catch that animation black dust swirlies… which can help… but that’s still not too reliable as you need to be looking where the thief is for that short animation time.

They can Alt+f4 as soon as they get out of combat (which happens fast some times)… but in this case he probably ‘ported + stealthed somewhere you didn’t see then used the warp back to his spawn.
Ports can also some times still put you inside the ground/boxes/etc. as well (which is where he might have gone). It’s not as common as it was before… but it still can happen. On my guardian this week I used JI on a frog and wound up trapped by teleporting inside my own teams dredge turret… (lol)
I ran toward a guardian today while in my griffon potion, and he ported out.
Guardians fear griffons.
We’re allergic to the plush. It causes us to swell up on contact. It’s not funny man.

I don’t see the point of going as a full zerker guard… if you want a higher dps… why not just bring another higher than max guard dps class instead? I’m not saying it’s BAD, just that there are other classes that can do dps better… so why not play towards your particular class’s strengths?

Retaliation is one of the best boons in the game.
Yes we have low hp pools… but we do have healing to make up for that. Add in a good amount of toughness and protection to reduce the incoming damage and you’re pretty tanky.
I have my judgements traited to proc retaliation on activation and I LOVE it. I often will “fake” run away from a glass cannon while doing protection/light heals/blocks/etc. The VAST majority will get into the “must catch the running squirrel” tunnel vision and they’ll burst themselves down and not notice. Then I’ll flip around, cc and down them. It’s funny how often this works.

I agree with most… I would rather have one of our utility skills vs any of our elite skills.
The tomes leave you too exposed, have cast times, and don’t provide stability so you can just be easily cc-ed. It’s basically like putting up a big ol’ “Please target me!” sign over your head. I really shouldn’t have to pop a utility for stability just to be able to use my long cd long cast time elite skills -.- The only times I can remember using one of these is in wvw… to give golems haste.
Renewed focus would be far more viable if it was just an instant cast with 3s invuln (allow you to attack/use skills for those 3s) + renew judgments. As is our shelter heal skill serves the same function that most people use renewed focus for (anti-burst). The renewed judgements is nice, but not enough to warrant it being an eliete. I do try to maximize this a little with traits (might/regen/protection+stability)… but even so… it’s quite underwhelming.
Still taking condition dmg would help balance the suggested renewed focus out… ‘cause atm that’s pretty messed up that people can be hurt while using any invulnerable skill… and you’re unable to use your skills.
I don’t know why they even call it invulnerability… as you’re obviously still vulnerable to condition damage (frick logic).

For leveling/farming I prefer GS by far. Binding + wrath + whirl + a few auto attacks = bunch of dead mobs
GS has some issues in PvP though… whirl moves kinda slow and takes a while to go through the full skill, giving them quite a while to mitigate the damage in multiple ways.
Wrath has a casting time which roots you.
On the plus side binding blade will target and pull in stealthed foes.
In Dung’s/WvW I prefer hammer by far. Hammer provides a lot more protection/control.
Lots of protection time as well as retaliation for your group if you use that symbol for a blast finisher with #2.
2 being a blast finisher is great in dung’s… you’ll be able utilize every single combo field anyone puts down. It works on fields at the start AND end of the short leap.
2 is a short leap on a very short cooldown which helps you stay on your foe.
RoW + JI is amazing for isolating people/stopping runners in pvp and helping your team mates get away if you place it properly (I do wish they would fix it so that you can’t dodge through it though -.-)
ZE… another root is always great.
Banish… punting people to where you want them to go… usually into the middle of your group, off of trying to heal up another player, or in pve you can save your team mates life by giving him some breathing time/space (don’t use this otherwise though as it’ll lower your teams dps as they re-adjust to his new position).
I pair up hammer with scepter + shield in PvP for even more control… gives 2 roots, 2 knockbacks, 2 aoe on short cd’s, 2x protection, RoW, projectile absorb, and (somewhat) distance range for if they are somehow able to get away a bit after all of that.
In a Dung I’ll use Gs+Hammer unless I know that I’ll need some range… then usually gs/scepter + shield for that

How old is your comp and who made your graphics card? I know some just seem to work better than others with certain games. I’m using a Nvidia g-force and it’s working very well (even though it’s a bit old).

none of these tips help when thieves can perma stealth due to the culling bug. sorry.
I haven’t had a single issue with culling since their last patch/fix to where your foes now appear before your allies.
My rig isn’t even anything special… a 1 year old Hp with extra ram + new graphics card shoved in there + nothing starts up when I boot it. If you’re still having issues with people not rendering you might need to upgrade your computer or lower your vid settings.
Who gives a kitten about the kitten downed state? It shouldn’t even exist at all. Remove downstate, and do the same thing to thieves too.
I would love that. Every other non-Ele class would. Ele’s have the strongest down state in the game right now by far…
But back to my original point… your ele is annoying (in some cases like when near a keep impossible) to kill regardless of the skill of the ele. Thieves can be stopped with tatics and if they mess up they die… unlike your ele… unless you’re bad at using #2 on down (lawl). You have no reason to be complaining about how hard a thief is to kill as an ele right now.

Thieves really are completely kitten I have no idea why Anet hasn’t done anything to fix them. It isn’t even about balance, it’s about them being the most frustrating and angering class in the game by far. I’m so kittening sick of thieves.

Wow… you might want to search on the internet more for tips vs thieves… there was already one in this thread (which you seem to have ignored). Since you’re having problems… I’ll help you out with some obvious ones that I use on my eng (who also has no problem with thieves).
Engs are generally built to be a support class. If you’re out running alone, then you should be build more like a tank and not like a support toon (look in the eng section of this forum for the tank cat build for an example).
More general tips… PAY ATTENTION!!! Keep your finger on your stun break at all times. The auto Elixir S at 25% helps a lot as does having Elixir S in your toolbar. Big ol’ bomb is also a great tool for keeping foes at bay. Toss Elixir R can be tossed just before you go down and will give you a high chance at an instant self-revive.
If you decide to run a squish eng… and then go out alone… and then get killed by a thief because you can’t react fast enough… then sorry, but that’s your own fault.
Do some more research…

Thief is a one trick pony class. Just learn to ID and counter whatever the one trick their build is using and you’re fine. That’s why I stopped playing mine. You’ll kill baddies very fast, but lose to anyone good. Sorry that OP wasn’t willing to learn out how to counter and instead rage quit the game.

The drops from bags are based on the level of the target you killed. It seems you are fighting a lot of low level players.
The loot scaling added in PvE, where low level mobs still reward you appropriate to your level loot (sometimes) doesnt seem to apply in WvW.So you wont see (or very unlikely) any lv70 or higher rares from enemies that arent level70+ themselves. Its where most of my woolcloth has come from, low level (around lv20) players in WvW.
Anyway, if you are suddenly fighting another server a lot, or there is some real-life thing going on, that causes a massive influx of low level players into your enemies WvW (Like, i duno… holidays…) you will suddenly see a steep drop in loot quality.
For me it’s usually about 10-20% loots is lower than level 80… that’s a decent drop in overall loot quality. However means that only 10-20% or so of the people I’m fighting are lower level… and the rest are high/capped.
To kill a lower level player is nearly as hard as killing the 80’s when they are all mixed together and protecting each other in a party/zerg. The game scales players up to try to even things out… heck… a lowbie can use siege just as well as a capped player can. It’s not right to lower the quality of my loot when the difficulty of what I’m doing hasn’t changed much. Thus the all loot & loot bags should scale with my level and not theirs.

I just can’t understand why we have to put up with soo many low lvl drops now. It used to be you would never see items below 70 if you were 80. I see them nonstop now its rediculous. I have no issues with the drops other then frequency the drops are insanely low lvl

I surprise people and cc/gank them on all of my toons… while thief does it best, the rest can do it as well. In the end it’s a l2p issue.
I have tons of fun in wvw on my guard vs these thieves btw… feels like they are hitting me with pillows. I’ll fake run away while healing myself + using retaliation. The VAST majority get into the dog like “must catch the running squirrel” mentality and don’t notice their hp dropping. Then I’ll cc, turn and stomp them and laugh and laugh…

IMO… the only drops they need to adjust are the badges. Take them out of the jumping puzzles and put them in the wvw loot bags. Leave the siege and toss in another green item into the jp chest.
Sorry to the baddies that can’t pvp… but they don’t deserve wvw badges for not doing anything to help their server do wvw. Right now they don’t even have to do the jumping puzzle… just pop in and ask if there is a mesmer around to port you str8 to the end. -.-
If you’re trying for drops to sell… do things like flipping mole/ogre. They have some nice stuff in their loot bags and drop them quite often.

You would have had to buy the extra stuffing/glue one way or another to be able to craft more than just the first 2 pets. You got them via real life $, while others used gold to buy the glue/stuffing.
If that amount of real life $ you spent is breaking the bank then you should abstain from buying gems with real life $ and only use the currency exchange to turn gold into gems in the future.

If you’re running anti-condition duration foods I would say generally tough > vit as they seriously reduce the condition dmg you take and thus you don’t need to worry about cond dmg as much. You still do want some vit though… a few exotic beryl jewelries should be enough and will help keep your damage up via crit dmg.
You could also use some of that nummy life stealing on crit food on… but you’ll wind up being cc-ed more (it works on reducing chill durations etc. as well). Dear god the amount of cc that gets shot at me in wvw is redicilous xD

Tixx events were good for the first few days, but then became repetitive with the recycled round events.
Snowball & Jumping Puzzle were great.
With the JP… some found it challenging, others found it easy… so it’s just right for the average player… even though I found it easy… very easy if you get the gingerbread path… which is good for those players who are having a harder time with it. Bravo A-net ^^
Not personally a fan of the bells, but that’s just not my type of game.
I’m fine with them doing all these sort of pet things based on a rng and mostly through the cash shop. It’s a good way for them to make money and encourage people to support the game by buying gems. I Do think that they should have allowed the gem pets to be bought/sold on the TP though.
For all of the T.T about the pets/morph pots… they are things that are only flash. They add nothing of substance to your character’s performance. This is how you do a cash shop properly.

Ele Vapor form is the BEST downstate #2 ability in the game right now. Even Anet said it during the last Q & A.
You are fighting a loosing battle trying to convince other players of this. The amount of time’s I’ve tried to rationally explain it, only to be countered with ‘But warriors can rez derpdederp’
People don’t understand, give up and wait for dev’s to nerf it!You also missed out the (probably) most op aspect of it, which is Ele is the ONLY class that can 100% counter a stomp (ok I lie, a mesmer or theif with a lot of luck and a lot of skill can stomp first time, but its bloody hard)
Ranger,warrior,engi,guard,necro can all be countered by stability
Mesmer can be countered by an easy to perform stagger stomp
Theif can be countered by a tele-stomp
Ele can be countered by a very precise, lucky stagger stomp, followed up by a tele-stomp, so long as the ele has not broken LOS.Seems a little bit excessive.
Granted these reasons, and the Q&A in which this was discussed, was more focussed around Spvp, yet some of these still apply to wvw

I use my theif to sit at teq and farm the dragon when my guildies say he’s up. It hasn’t been in wvw for a long long time.
Why? Because thieves only win 1v1 against baddies and do little for your team. They are VERY one trick ponies. Learn to counter their tricks and you’ll laugh at them as I do.
Weird. I’ve heard some people on this forum say it’s a waste of a skill and now someone saying it’s OP. Personally as an ele I like it. In some situations it’s awesome, in some situations, it doesn’t help at all. Sounds reasonable to me.
Once again… DOWNED state mist… I don’t care about the utility, it’s fine. 75s is a justified long cd and it takes up a utility slot. Instantly available when downed and can go into keeps isn’t.
So much stupidity in this thread. Yes, Ele’s should not be able to die strategically outside the gate then mistform through lines, bubbles, etc and through a portal.
Only defended by bad Ele’s, of which this is their one saving grace.Ele’s have best downed state without them being able to port. Slightly less so in WvW than Spvp as the need to stomp is removed completely, but still solidly on top.
Their downed state is one of the reasons why Eles is the fotm class. You can be a HORRID ele and still not worry about dying.
The ONLY change I proposed was just to not let the downed state version of it to go through gates… and people are defending it and trying to make it seem like I asked for it to be removed from the game.
You could still use it to get back to your team and have them res you. Are there seriously so many bad eles that feel they need to abuse this to be competitive?

Perfectly fine with removing mist form, just give us a substanial increase in armor to compensate since thieves and warriors can still down us in 1 set of combos.
If you’re still having problems with those 2 classes I suggest you go read up on some tankier builds… and learn to dodge 100b/kill shot.
I didn’t even suggest removing it, just don’t have it be able to cross over inside a keep/tower while in the downed state.

i understand what you are getting at here but its not really that big of a deal. personally what i like to do in wvw, i run around in parties of 3-5, if we see someone stupid enough to try to defend from outside while we are taking a tower we take turns pulling/knocking them further from the door. this way they dont get to do any significant damage and they are to far away to get back inside.
If you’re able to do that to an ele… then that’s a very bad ele. With all of their movement/stability/mist form abilities while not downed it’s not possible to do against an ele with half a brain.

alright, also nerf the guardian heal skill that gives them 2 seconds of blocking. cause i can go down there do some damage and just block for 2 straight seconds when im low on health and runnin back towards the door, and the ranger trait that gives them the active signet buffs because, what class should be able to have 6 seconds of invulnerability, and the thieves ability to go invis, and the mesmers ability to blink…am i missing anything here?
Yes… none of those things can be done while downed.
correct, but that doesnt make them any more “fair” or less op. point is most classes have more useful skills to keep themselves from going down and some classes have more useful skills while downed. as a ranger who is specced to get active signet effects id say there is probably more people that qq over my 6 seconds of invulnerability that i normally use when they have got me down to about 4-7k life
You still can’t run into the face of a zerg without any care/regard of being downed what so ever… It’s not like ele’s don’t have high survival/movement/invuln without mist form on down… which seems to be what you’re suggesting.

Yes… none of those things can be done while downed.
I don’t mind mist form while they are up… only it making it so easy to get into a tower/keep when downed.
