It obviously needs a nerf.

On an ele you don’t care if you get downed somewhat close to a keep/tower… you’re just able to mist form, go inside and be safe to heal/rally with no worries. Ele’s jump into the face of an attacking zerg knowing they’ll be able to mist form back inside.
There needs to be more of a consequence for an ele being put in the downed state.

It should just be made so eles aren’t able to cross inside those green keep/tower portals while in mist form. Being able to mist back to your team is fine… and still a very strong downed skill. At least people can still be chased and stomped in that situation.

The longer one continues winning (and the easier those wins become), the more complacent (some) players become. The majority of icon commanders who have fielded easy wins over the past month or so will find themselves in dire straights up in tier 2.

Those of us who play for a challenge tend to play less when that challenge is lacking. This leads to your more casual players, and less experienced icons to ‘run’ maps. Not a bad thing, everyone needs to learn. And in tier 2, those who stick it out the entire week will hopefully learn!

As I said before, next week’s match won’t really be representative of any server’s prowess due to where it falls, but the lethargy that creeps into one’s tactics when faced with little threat (and all credit to FA, CD and YB, they all made EB an exciting place for me at times over the past 2 months) will lead to some swift re-evaluation of competence in tier 2.

Well said, but I don’t think complaceny is all to blame.

I guess we’ll see how it goes.

Every time I’ve logged into EB the past couple weeks the first thing I’ve done is checked on our entire third — siege, supply, upgrades, repairs, etc. On more than one occasion I’ve left Rogue’s Quarry only to have it flipped by the time I reach Klovan. To say that we’re complacent is an understatement.

Every single time I log in I spend a solid 30 minutes running supply, repairing walls/gates, replacing siege (even simple things like oil drums), and finishing upgrades. Our night crews don’t bother with maintenance and some of our commanders are oblivious as to what’s going on in our third. They log in and go straight into attacking things.

We might have good defensive habits during our prime time hours but our lower population hours are so sloppy that it hurts. I’m almost positive that this is because people don’t think about or consider defending unless we have a zerg running or are in active control of the map, as at that point we have so many people that people can “be lazy” and sit in camps chatting.

I had a conversation with someone a few days ago after defending Golanta from a CD raid. Jerrifer’s and Klovan were both low on supply and missing upgrades, so I asked a few members of our zerg to stay behind and help me get us back up to strength. The response was, “who cares, we’re winning” — this was from the commander. At that point the zerg left, no one stayed behind, and I spent an hour doing what five of us could have done in 10 minutes.

I’m excited to move up into Tier 2 because I know we’re going to get our kitten kicked. We’re going to get stomped and hopefully spawn camped, and it’s going to happen because people don’t want to stop that one mesmer from camping our dolyaks, or because people don’t double check to make sure everything is repaired, or because our commanders would rather know more about enemy tower supply than our own.

It will be glorious, and it will throw water on the server’s head. If that doesn’t pull us out of the stupor then we’re not fit for Tier 2 anyway. Now that we’re done riding the “winning Tier 3 forever” wave we’re probably going to lose some population when we start getting hammered, but I have confidence in our ability to continue to grow and improve.

(And re: maintenance: I am a PuG in WvW. My guild is small and doesn’t play with me often. For our major guilds to not catch stuff like that with superior communication, numbers, and coordination is shameful. Tarnished Coast, I’m one player. I cannot be the only one doing this if we’re to succeed. It might be a different story in our home borderland, but it sure as hell is a mess in EB.)

It’s not just TC that’s started to slack off… CD and FA don’t seem to be keeping up as much pressure as they were before. When they were… we had far more people doing these sorts of things that you’re doing. I know I spent far more time repairing and making sure the supplies were reaching the towers/keeps when things were harder.

Now it seems pointless when it’ll just get re-capped in a short while due to the lack of pressure we’re feeling vs. the other servers in general (that’s probably the POV of that commander as well).

I hope TC people keep rising to the challenge when it does present itself. I know I’ll enjoy WvW more when we have to work harder to get and hold things.

ZERGS -any idea ?

T1/2 WvW-ers can’t just zerg or they’ll lose. You need a zerg + small hit/responce groups.

If that’s all that it takes for your lower server to win… then you might want to consider trying to see if you can get into a higher tier server…

Key to Zerg removing, is removing downed state. Yes I like escaping with vapor form. But in the end, my enemy servers (who love 60+ zergs), have escaped way more then me. Why? they could always get a ress from someone else. And ressing downed = 1-2k hp heal per second. This brings monking al the way back. (Wich arenanet clearly stated they don’t want any of it ingame) If you are downed and have support, you cannot die. They just ress you back up. Imo ress downed, may exist in wvw, (to give escape chance to some extend when you deserve it), but make the heal much worse. Make the heal only to 200-500 heal per second.

This will make people who are downed, actuallyh close to the reality, wich means they are almost certainly defeated, for making a mistake (if you go downed, you made mistake or sacraficed yourself for the better good). Now to much people escape from this faith by zerging.

I appreciate that you have a different opinion than me about the downed state and I do agree that it’s easier to get healed back up if there’s more players around (eg. in a zerg); but stating that removing the downed state is the key to removing zergs is laughable at best.
You really think folks only run in a zerg because of the downed state and all incentives to use the zerging tactics are gone if the downed state would be removed?
It was just another excuse to state your opinion about the downed state in a non-related thread.

It would give a way to eventually thin the herd and force those players in a zerg to pay attention… because atm you don’t need to at all other than follow the blue symbol. If you go down you’ll get ressed up very quickly.

Siege could also actually kill some players in a zerg as well. Right now they are a total joke vs zergs because of this and a few other reasons.

Self healing I have no problem with as is… it’s just when people always get so many others helping them res is where it becomes a problem. Even just lowering the number of max players able to res a downed player would help.

Don’t like thieves? Roll a guardian.

You should have zero trouble with any of them. You can counter stealth… Binding Blade still targets them and pulls while they are stealthed… or with hammer use JI + ROW and smash their face in while they faceplant against the ring.

If they use shadow refuge run into it and knock them out with Shield of Absorption… Use retaliation + protection and watch them melt themselves…

Thieves are good at ganking noobs… and that’s about it…

I use hammer + scepter/shield and have no problems keeping people controlled and stop them from getting away (other than eles with their mist form -.-). If you don’t like scepter then try a 1h sword for the teleport on that instead. I do like having a (somewhat) ranged option personally… but agree that the scepter needs some love.

2 roots, ji + RoW (lol and watch people faceplant trying to get out of it), and 2 kittendowns with banish & Shield of Absorption… that is a LOT of control.

As far as getting away… I use JI to port away and onto a random mob, and save yourselves for the protection + swiftness… they are also both stun breakers.

I also use full runes of the pack to give me swiftness when hit and increase swiftness duration… if you’re running AH it also heals you. That 5% swiftness proc activates often when running away… since I’ll usually have a lot of people pew pewing at me and has saved my life many times.

Pack runes + 2h mastery + the staff makes getting across the map in WvW a breeze as well.

Also use your judgements well… having virtue of courage traited for 3s of stability is nice… with renewed focus it’s 6s total plus that invuln time… should help stop them from rooting you etc… but that’s dependent on what your build allows.

Hopefully this helps and shows that being able to catch and escape isn’t just about swiftness. It’s often more about your total mobility and control.

It was fine before this patch… when I saw a mes hugging a phantasm I would just kill it with 1-2 auto attack and their protection/regen would go away (on my guard I wouldn’t even need to target it… the aoe from my attacks would kill it).

It had a simple & easy counter. Very stupid change to a class that’s already hurting very badly in the phantasm department.

It does suck always getting left behind. So many times today I was fighting someone only to have them runaway before I could finish them, or just simply kite me to death. I also noticed that ranged classes can spam their autoattack and still be able to keep up with me if I’m running away…..

Maybe its just me, but in my experience with MMOs its usually the melee that has the speed advantage to counter the “kitability” of the ranged classes. Seems kind of backwards to do it the other way around

I have few problems with people running away while using a hammer as my main weapon. JI + RoW is amazing… and hillarious to watch people go “ kitten ” as they try to cross it and fall down. The only class I have issues with some times are eles… that mist form…

DPS Runes?

Superior Rune of the Pack is pretty impressive when combined with Altruistic Healing.
Despite losing out 50 Power to slight bug, it’s still a favorite pick of mine.

That four rune combo and 200 stat bonus at the 6th is hard to ignore.

The bug doesn’t even bother me much since it gives +50 healing power instead of the +50 power… still a very useful stat to a guardian.

I use a meditation build now (since the ah vigor nerf) and I still love them.

In the future you should specify pve/spvp/wvw…

There are a lot of builds in here… most guard builds have some damage mixed with toughness… the ratio of how much of each that you want will take some testing on your part. Gear makes up a large part of that. I find that knight’s gear is especially good for a balanced guardian… but I do have other things mixed in to add in some more survival/hp as our base hp is low on guardian.

My advice… get yourself some knight’s & valk rares and just test various build out since you’re new… you can always salvage them after and get ecto’s back which you’ll need for your exotics anyways (unless you do it through dung’s, then just sell them back for about what you spent on the rares in the first place)

I like runes of the pack for offensive runes in pvp. Pwr/pre + buffs for swiftness & fury. Wouldn’t be as good for PvE as the added speed/mobility isn’t needed there.

So… much… win…

IMO they only spend a time playing war/thief… and look at spreadsheets for the rest.

So they looked on a sheet and saw that eng nades were doing a lot of damage… regardless that you can literally walk out of the aoe before they land. That’s why almost no one was complaining about eng nade damage. They also might see that nade eng’s pay for their damage irl with carpel tunnel (dear god fix it to where I don’t have to spam my keyboard so much on my eng).

If they actually plaid the other classes they would have noticed many of the problems/bugs they are having before the patches hit (ex. mesmers phantasms issues in the past few recent patches)

If the dev’s aren’t willing/able to fully test out everything (and in fairness I’m sure they are busy and doubt they have time)… then please for kittens sake put up a public test server so we can do it for you before these things go live and we have to deal with new bugs, , glitches, unintended nerfs, etc. for at least a month.

Why do we need to get/use 250 stuffing/glue to make a mini pet? It just needlessly takes up space in our inven/storage. Why not just make it so you need 1 stuffing/glue and let them stack? <( ? . ? <)

I know it’s not a huge deal as this is a temporary thing and I could just make a mini pet… but I want to wait to see all of the pets before I decide which ones I want to make.

I guess I just don’t understand the apparent obsession with needlessly requiring 250 of something. Especially in this case… it’s quite obviously for no real reason with this event as they only give them out to you in stacks of 250 in the first place.

The reduced healing from AH is quite noticeable. I the 5s with a 5s cooldown is indeed leaving me with gaps of time where I don’t have vigor : / I’ll play around with it some more but I may well switch to another build. It’s odd they would nerf this one as the guide to it has been stickied >.>

Also… why in the kitten did they increase movement speed of other players/ranged weapons… but not guard scepter? Their speed buff really makes scepter #1 suck even more than it did before…

More Endgame Potential??? Mesmer or Ele

For right now… in PvE an Ele is far more useful to a group… and easier to learn to use as well.

The only thing a mesmer can do better than the other classes in PvE are time warp (which is VERY good, but not usually worth bringing a mesmer just for that one long cd elite) and confusion (which is unreliable in pve)

However there is an update/patch coming on the 14th which could change that depending on the balancing and possible bugs (which can destroy any class). I would wait until after the 14th to decide to main anything…

It’s an amazing weapon/tool in PvP. By far my favorite offhand in WvW. You do need to use it wisely and not just spam them though as the cd’s are on the longer side even when traited.

Perma aoe protection for everyone would be really OP in Wvw/sPvP.

If you consider how much damage you/your team aren’t taking from ranged in a zerg vs zerg… it’s quite strong… and it’s an aoe knockback on top of that. With 1 button press you can shove back/down mele and stop all the ranged damage for a short while. That’s pretty sweet.

Why do people that put themselves into bad situations without any backup expect to live? No class should expect to live through that.

I’m pretty surprised that so many still feel that they can’t catch/stop a thief. I don’t find it all that hard… especially on a guardian where you can use a shield to knock them out of shadow refuge and Binding Blade hits and pulls in and knocks down stealthed players in the area. It might be that I just know the thief very well since I started out as one.

Surviving in larger scale fights… I’m not going to go into the face of a zerg without first judging the size of them and then seeing what I should be doing (support or front line).

If I decide to do front line… I make sure I have save yourselves and stand your ground. If I need to exit the rush I’ll usually use Shield of Absorption for the kb + absorb first… then pop those 2.

When I started guard I purposefully tested his limits in various situations… and it was fun to just go all LLLEEEERRROOOYYYY!!! I still do that some time just for the lols. This may take some time to learn your limit as situations can shift/change all of the time. Keep testing and learn from it over and over.

If I’m taking a lot of damage during the stable/swift retreat… I’ll pop my defensive virtues to give me a heal, + block and increase the duration on the regen and protection from save yourselves. If it gets REALLY bad that 6 seconds of immunity can save your life… and it lets me pop my virtues again. If you’ve traited into altruistic healing… that can be a huge heal (depends on how many are around you).

At that point if I get downed… it’s usually either my team wasn’t doing their job, I misjudged that I should even be rushing into the front line in the first place, or I over-extended my stay. Even if that happens… you shouldn’t have pushed SO far ahead to where your team couldn’t do something to at least try get you back up.

As a guardian rushing in many focus on you… that’s the point… and there is always a risk when you do that. My team should be doing their jobs and making it not so nice to stand around and need to back off since me and others are taking the damage and they don’t have to worry about it as much. This will also help me get back to them. It’s a symbiotic sort of relationship.

When I’m off solo I pack save yourselves + retreat… and I’m almost always able to get back to a team (know where your commanders are)/a keep/tower/whatever pretty easily without dying. If I happened to get caught unaware, or for whatever reason not be able to run home… then that’s my own fault and yet another learning experience.

If you want a class that can get away easier without having to think about the situations as much… go roll a thief or a long range class or something.

For me having to be constantly aware and have a good feel for how the battle is going is all part of the fun… and why I usually just keep my thief sitting at a dragon spawn to help cut down on those waypoint fees.

You can’t use the kits in WvW, so mass invis is useful there for several tatics.

Time warp is one of the best elites in the game. The damage your party can put out with 10s of haste is insane. The field is pretty large and the skill itself has good range as to where you can place it… haven’t had much of an issue with people being able to stay inside of it.

PvE it’s an expected item to have for me and my team/guild. I guess if it’s a random pug they might not have it due to their lack of knowledge of its existence though…

Only time I’ve used time warp vs gates in WvW is with golems though (other gate breaking sieges have a cooldown on their attacks and it won’t help them very much). It’s extremely rare when a server needs to just mele a door.

It’s a great class all around and will be getting a buff in the next update (sigils will proc while using kits).

All classes can solo… eng does a MUCH better job than mesmer as far as farming those cursed shore events (great for gold and karma to help you get your first exotic set).

In a party Eng can be amazing support or top DPS (they are currently the top dps in the game).

Just having a single geared 80 of any class will allow you to fund your other alts.

I recommend Mass Invisibility1) because it gives you and your groupies some time to reposition and heal during tough battles and 2) because it has the shortest cooldown of all the three Mesmer elites (90 seconds I think) so it integrates nicely into your roster of skills.

Not needed at all if your team all have the spy kits (and everyone should). The mobs will simply begin to wander away giving you time to reposition. Time warp is FAR superior.

10s of stealth as long as you don’t move. They come from the charr starting zone and only cost 28 karma each. Great for not getting killed, node farming, and skill point communes (not useable in WvW).

Limited swiftness is one of the more minor problems with Mesmer atm…

As far as rolling ANY new class… don’t do it until everyone sees/tests the upcoming changes on the 14th. No one knows what balance changes/bugs may occur.

IMO your 1st priority should be getting your Eng to 80 anyways…

I’m fine with the mesmer attacks being subject to blind/dodge/block rules the same as other classes are.

I am NOT fine with only mesmer having a summon not appear due to a blind/dodge/block.

But the dev’s have stated they consider them attacks (because frick logic). So from their pov… I am NOT fine with only mesmer’s multi-hitting/aoe attacks not occurring at all due do a single dodge/blind/block.

Yeah this class is so broken I solo’d a champion on it today. I love my Mesmer :-)

Second, indeed it’s not. I’ve done it on all 4 of my 80’s. I’m sure there are vids of every class doing it.

Thrid, solo PvE has little to do with group PvE, WvW, or sPvP. Mesmer is in very bad shape in all 3 of those right now. It’s a VERY poor measurement of how the class is doing.

I presume this is just talking about PvE… shield rocks in PvP and is by far my favorite offhand.

Coming from having my mesmer as main, guardian offers a LOT more choices with viable weaponry. But I agree, there are many weapons in this game that need re-examining.

I would also add shield for PvP… even in 1v1’s. The added protection is great, it knocks back and absorbs projectiles. It easily counters SO many of your opponents skills. The cd’s are long, but totally worth it for such powerful skills.

Just a suggestion…, you might want to consider rebinding those 6-0 buttons. Personally i use 1-5 q-6 (heal) e-7 r-8 f-9 c-0 x=autorun z=pick up. Makes it so you never have to move your left hand or click again. Clicking might work ok in some PvE, but… it’s much better to be able to pan around to be able to keep up your situational awareness while fighting. Especially in PvP… you don’t want some player(s) to be able to sneak up behind you while you’re busy fighting.

In several classes (mesmer being a great example) there are specific levels where you gain a lot in terms of what you can do due to new traits available at your level.

I do agree that the last few levels don’t usually mean a whole lot in terms of what you can do with your character. Those last 10 trait points usually don’t make a ton of difference… I didn’t make a large difference on my mesmer, theif, or eng… but it did on my guard’s build however… so it’s pretty class/build dependent imo.

Also the dev’s said that they regret adding in ascended gear in such a limited way… and that’ll be expanded in the future. When that happens that’ll help free everyone up to do what they want to do and still be rewarded. I am mostly pvp-er (I’ve only recently started to do dungs at all due to the increased cost of exotic gear) and this will mean a LOT to me.

GS clones hit 3 times per cycle. Very useful for getting bleeds when you trait for sharper images and helps vs 1 time/limited # block skills.

Scepter clones are rubbish and are in need of something though… I agree with that.

There are far stronger things you can do after getting a magic bullet to land other than just scepter 3. Try magic bullet-> lol moa and remove them from the fight for 10s+… or blurred frenzy + shatter for far more damage… I could go on and on…

In essence though… you’re saying that you need them to be stunned in order to get it off. This is in no way showing that it’s a good weapon vs getting something bad to work. I’m glad you didn’t disagree with #1 & 2 being horrid though.

Glad your reading comprehension skills are top notch… Please do tell what ranged attacks a mesmer has that beat scepter #3 in damage. Saying Moa has nothing to do with this argument, it is usable by everyone no matter what weapons you have out. Oh and no thanks, I will not use an ability as unbalanced and cheap as it.

Back to the point of your reading comprehension skills. I believe I stated that the #2 block I do use. At no point did I say it was horrid or even imply it for that matter. I have no problem with #1 either, I think the clone summoning bonus is more than enough. Last I checked there are plenty of weapons that needs a stun/root to actually make use of their main attacks. 100 blades comes to mind, Blurred Frenzy… pretty much any of them that root the caster.

In the end it is pointless to argue with you, because you want to pick and choose which part of my statements you reply to, instead of the statements as a whole. Did the part where I said I use sword/sword and scepter/pistol ever pop into your head at some point? If it did, did you not realize having sword/pistol and sword/sword would be utterly pointless? Or are you just implying that I must use GS or Staff? Please take your childish debate skills elsewhere, where they may actually make sense to someone.

Once it’s unbugged an izerker also does a good deal of damage and leaves them crippled + gives you a phantom.

Using a weapon with one skill that you don’t use at all also means that it needs a rework (as does gs’s mind stab… but that’s still more useful than the scepter block). The #1 attack is sub par as far as damage damage at non-point blank range (which is a bad mechanic for a ranged weapon) and does not create clones at much of a faster rate than other weapons to make up for that. It’s far better to just dodge to create clones that actually do something (such as rip boons, hit with conditions, hitting multiple times) when they attack.

The moa was just an example as to what other things you can do vs use the confuse ray. It doesn’t require a specific weapon, but that was part of the point. The scepter isn’t a weapon that’s needed or very useful in its current state.

As far as you not wanting to use moa… they nerfed moa by giving it the new #5 ability to allow them to run away very quickly. Most consider it pretty weak. Imo it still has its uses to remove a single person from the area for a while, but I agree that time warp is usually better for the haste + combo field.

No one is forcing you to use a GS or Staff… but that doesn’t mean that scepter is a good weapon choice. It’s also why so many want another 1h main hand weapon other than scepter (many have suggested adding in a main hand pistol).

I still kill people with izerker since the new delay before it swings screws up people’s dodges and lets you compress another attack in the same time.

The thing about illusionary berserker is even though it may not do the same absurd damage it did prior, to the bug fix, it still is amazing because it sets up for a shatter nicely since you cripple the target, and the phantasm is right there.

It hasn’t been fixed yet… they’ll attempt to fix it on the 14th with that update/patch.

Killing baddies is meaningless… you can do that on any class regardless of the build and issues with the class. The devs balance based off of top tier gameplay. Try using a GS vs those players right now and you’ll get wrecked.

The damage from a glass cannon built/geared mes before the bug was hardly absurd damage when you compare it to what other classes can do.

A short term solution to your problem would be to roll another class which has simple mechanics behind it as a backup for when issues occur with this complex class and be constructive with your posts as to what needs to be fixed/changed and why.

I don’t play thief much at all anymore… it was my first 80. I got bored with it pretty quickly as they are very much one trick ponies. They’ll kill baddies very quickly, but force you to run away from good players.

For alts/until they fix mesmer I much prefer Eng for supporting in PvP/massive PvE dps or Guardian when I want to LLLEEERROOOYYYY! into the face of a zerg in WvW.

I think it makes perfect sense. If you don’t enjoy playing a Mesmer AT THIS TIME then why waste your time playing a Mesmer AT THIS TIME? If you hate it and insist on playing it anyways you’ll end up angry and bitter, and probably answer every thread in the forum with essentially the same rant about whatever you are angry and bitter about.

Play what you enjoy. The profession is going through changes. If you played Guild Wara you should be aware that the game will never stop changing. Sometimes significantly. When changes come along you either learn to play with them and wait it out, or play something else in the mean time. Common sense, really.

If people listened to your other post and simply stopped playing mesmer altogether… it would hurt the mesmer class. I’m sorry if you don’t like people pointing out/complaining the major flaws/issues that the class currently has… but this is a way we can potentially communicate with the dev’s to fix that problem. Simply changing classes and losing the many hours of work people have put into leveling and gearing their characters and not having anything change isn’t a good option. Neither is just accepting the current serious bugs/problems and being forced to work around them.

I do have backup characters I play and often suggest that others have some as well to help while the game is still being balanced/fixed for now (feel free take a look at my other posts and my signature)… but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to be vocal about what’s happened to the mesmer class and what needs to be fixed so that the class can function properly again. It’s a GOOD thing when people are constructive and vocal… not a bad thing. The OP feels that mesmer is weak and only good as a support class… atm they aren’t even great at that due to the bugs/other issues with the class.

OP, clearly it’s not just you, a lot of people hate the class. Obviously it’s not the class either, a lot of people love it.

If its not working for you, either watch some guides and try something else, or play a different class that suits you better.

I LOVED the mesmer class when it was playing by the same rules. Now it’s not and that needs to change. I don’t care if they nerf it… but every class needs to play by the same basic rules. Other bugs have also kittened this class… but some of those should be resolved in the next patch.

Just saying if you’re not happy with the current state of mesmer, then the class isn’t for you… just… no… To me that sort of comment isn’t at all valid/logical with so many major bugs in the class right now.

Everything with portal requires a lot of coordination on the part of the participants. That fact makes is not OP. It’s only done by structured groups and it depends on a very small subset of players. However, I wouldn’t be opposed to a cap on the number of people it could move. I never use it in WvW because I’m always running solo or in a small group. I do however, use it to save party members from bugs in fractals and to portal them through difficult jumping puzzles. (Some of my group have a terrible time with JP. Low end systems.)

Saying “mesmer here at the jumping puzzle” or “I’m hiding in X” in team chat takes very little coordination.

Golem chain porting does take more, but you can still easily do golem porting coordination well enough through just team chat… but teaming up for a small hit team will take FAR more coordination than making/porting golems around. That’s easily shown by how sort of real time combat coordination often requires voice chat… while portal tactics don’t.

The impact that portals make in WvW is HUGE. They are far too strong and need to have a limited number of uses to force players to use more coordination to do what they do now. I think limiting it to 5 uses would be a good number (or only being able to be used infinitely by people in the mesmer’s own party). The impact is far too great for the limited amount of coordination required as is.

This is the most broken update ever for a class. My mesmer is completely useless and it’s just the opposite of fun to play him. U better fix whis on 14. or u can just as well delete that class-.-

As a mesmer player it’s frustrating to not have a properly functioning class (to say the least)… however, no need be all melodramatic and say delete the entire class if it’s not fixed NOW.

Mesmer is a very complex class from a dev’s pov… I understand why they’re having issues getting it to work properly in a game that’s still new/young in its development… especially seeing as none of them main a mesmer. They really should hire more people and have 1 person main each class to be able to see/debate from that class’s pov to properly balance things out.

LOS should stay… it’s something all classes have to deal with.

Blind/block/dodge causing multi hitting phantasm attacks to not occur needs to go. No other class has to deal with their multi hitting attacks not occuring at all due to a single blind/block/dodge. The first hit of these attacks should miss instead like with all other classes. If they feel illusions are still too strong with even rules, nerf them in other ways. They still need be reliably generated for the mesmer class to function at higher levels of PvP.

Phantasm delay will be reduced to .25s in the next patch according to the dev. I would like the cast times to be reduced by .25s to make up for the delay. The dev’s said that instant attacks from the phantasms weren’t OP but were causing some other non-specified issues (and the instantly attacking phantasms were caused by a bug in the first place).

Bugged phantasm damage should be fixed in the next patch according to the devs. (I hope this includes izerker’s missing on the first spin otherwise the damage output of this skill is still bugged)

If these major issues aren’t fixed/resolved I’ll keep my mesmer on the shelf/as my storage toon until they are.

Mesmer has a high effort to result ratio. You can expect to work twice as hard as other classes to get the same result. There are no push to do a lot of damage buttons on mesmer. However, we have the best style and the illusion a lot of variety in skills. Oh and portal. (Portal makes us OP /sarcasm)

Portal is very good in WvW. It allows people to “cheat” through the jumping puzzles and instantly get more siege for their team. It also can move large numbers of golems across long distances (when chained) and help keep them from being seen. You can stealth and hide inside of areas then portal your team inside if they don’t find you. People routinely sweep for mesmers now though… so you need to be very sneaky about it. Portals are best use of a mesmer in WvW hands down… and as you can see… they are OP.

However, mesmer in its current state will never do “a lot of damage” regardless of how well or how many buttons you push when you compare them to other classes.

Mesmer is very very weak right now. IMO It’s the weakest class. Here is why…

Multiple trait lines are useless (anything to do with phantasms) due to bugs + unbalanced rules with the creation of the phantasms.

PvE – you bring nothing to the table another class can’t do better other than time warp (which I admit is good) and confusion (very bad condition in pve).

Mesmer damage is sub par and laughable when compared to a nade eng or dps warrior.

Mesmer support skills aren’t anything to write home about either. Mantra healing has a short range and kills any dps you’re putting out while you’re just sitting there constantly recharging mantras.

Invis you can get from ash legion spy kits for 28 karma… no need for a mesmer to supply invis. in PvE. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ash_Legion_Spy_Kit)

Other classes can wipe conditions just as well as a memser while doing better damage or adding to the team better in other ways.

PvE mesmers aren’t total leeches or anything… but there are just better classes for whatever role you’re trying to fill as a mesmer.

PvP – No other class can be denied their main class resource as easily as a mesmer can. Just time your blind/block/dodges in time with the mesmers summon telegraphs and they can’t create illusions… and at that point you have very little offense/defense since illusions are what the mesmer class is based off of.

Sure you can still kill baddies that don’t know how/when to dodge after a telegraphed summon animation… but you can do that on any class regardless of their current state in the game. Good players know the imbalanced rules imposed on mesmers and use that to give them a huge advantage.

So you can’t do PvE or PvP as well as other classes on a mesmer anymore. So… what’s the point of being a mesmer now? Pretty purple butterflies? Pretty purple butterflies.

Ps @ OP… “even engineer” makes them sound weak… they are one of the best classes in PvE. They have the #1 DPS and have amazing support skills as well. They’ll be getting a buff in this next patch when they put in that sigils can proc with kits… and later stats will remain when you swap to a kit.

I am uncertain what this foo-strategy is going on about. That relying on phantasms is lazy or something negative to do? Uh, an integral part of Mesmer IS their reliance on the illusion gimmick. Phantasm builds are viable builds. iBeserker is a phantasm that can be and is a part of that build and strategy. There is nothing wrong with it.

Most phantasm builds are not viable builds right now due to bugs + unbalanced blind/block/dodge rules on the multi hitting phantasm attacks.

No other class has their aoe/multi hitting attack not even occur at all due to a single dodge/blind/block.

The phantasms are VERY telegraphed summons making them easy to avoid them being created at all with a single dodge.

Then you have the 1second + delay bug before some of them will even attack (often leads to phantasms missing their entire attacks if they manage to be created and then live that long).

When they are working properly and by the same rules as everyone else they can be very good. When traited you can use Idualist to give off regen which procs protection adds a lot of survivabity (and he’ll typically stay by you unless he’s out of range of your target). If you’re going in for a burst vs many foes you can use izerker to do this as well. It’ll take some timing, but if you do it right, swap + Blurred frenzy will give you enough time to pick up that regen/protection and before you shatter on the rooted target.

Phantasms can be used in a lazy way… poorly… but if you’re smart about them (and they fix all this delay/unbalanced blind/block/dodge rubbish so they can actually be used again) they can be great for your survival and damage output… better than just using as totally disposable non-useful fodder outside of their first attack role in a shatter build.

Mantra healing support Build?

At least the healing prioritizes players made this a lot better. Sure you’re spending your time healing, but if you’re perma-healing, then your party is having some issues with the fight at hand regardless.

And most classes have a low amount of sustained healing and usually some burst healing, e.g. warrior shouts. Sure it’s awesome, but those shouts do have cds. Mesmers at least can pump out a fairly reliable aoe heal every 5-6 seconds, if you don’t get interrupted or something.

I personally like the build and switch between that and condition bunker depending on what I want to do.

I have a Cleric’s/Magi’s mix w/ RUne of the Water and toying around with Sigil of Water. I enjoy it.

That’s fairly true about the healing… but if your team is taking that much damage to where they need constant heals and swapping to dmg/other support isn’t better… then they’re doing something wrong…
