I’m in WvW everyday and I still made the backpiece and recently got a ring in fractals. I’m level 11 fractals and barely do any. Why do fractals suck? Dungeons suck. Fractals give you tons of yellows. Dungeons give you blue junk.

It’s still the same PvAi repetitive stuff…

It usually takes me less than a minute to figure out the stratagy/rotation of the boss… and less than that for non-boss Ai. After that it’s just predictable boringness to me. That’s why I like WvW… players don’t all act the same, I won’t fight the same encounter twice (other than PvD or capping a camp lol). I’m at FoTM 15… and can’t stand to do it anymore.

WvW needs to have its own way of getting these items… as well as non-P/V/T exotics… been waiting for that one since launch…

Attacks from stealth need to be fixed/adjusted (all “1” attacks from stealth… Sneak Attack, Backstab, Tactical Strike, and Surprise Shot). Atm I can do them multiple times if I miss/the person dodges the attack.

This is obviously kittened.

These attacks should remove me from stealth upon use. If I miss them or they are avoided I should be punished in some way like any other class does when they miss an attack.

IMO it’s the lack of any counter to stealth… which thieves have in abundance. On top of that rendering/culling issues makes the thief invisible for too long (making the revealed debuff a joke).

That being said thief is a one trick pony regardless of their build. Very predictable indeed.

I agree… atm over voice chat it’s broadcast when you can port in… so it only locks people out for short periods of time before the entire zerg can just warp in despite it being under attack. It’s pretty kittened up as it is.

Guards are weak at range… our only ranged weapon (scepter) is easy to dodge/avoid and depending on build guards can also weak vs conditions… I would focus on those vs trying to mele rush a guardian.

That being said… you might want to roll a guardian. It’ll help you fight them once you know their animations/general tactics.

Hammer + Scepter/Shield is great for PvP… this is my max CC set up… 2 roots 2 knockbacks, RoW, tons of protection, etc.

Hammer + GS – good mix of CC, burst dmg, and leaps.

Personally I use meditations just because I’m usually the first person to rush in. I need to know that I’ll be able to heal myself, remove conditions on demand, and have that added mobility as well (helps make up for the lack of cripple and gives me an instant way out of the fight if I need it). For utilities I run SY, JI, Smite. I also traited for retal on judgement (since I know people will be beating on me) as well as 3s of stability on VoC which helps a ton vs cc/knockbacks. I also find that meditations are better for anti-burst since I can pop those 2k meditation heals vs having lots of small heals with AH.

If I’m doing more group/team work I do swap over to AH and change utilities to suit that role better though. Both are very good in their own ways and in the end it just comes down to what you want to do… solo vs group.

IMO Guard doesn’t need this extensive of an overhaul. The vast majority of guard issues could be fixed by adding in more weapon skills/traits to slow down our opponent (cripple), improving how symbols function, and by giving us a decent ranged option with an updated scepter (which the dev’s have said they aren’t happy with atm).

Race matters… but only slightly due to racial skills… a bit more if you’re an eng… since your racial skills = different toolbelt skills as well.

Tacking speed onto that is a bad idea for balance reasons.

I totally agree, they need all of the basic stats we’ve had access to since level 55 or so in as ascended. There is a massive lack of +healing gear (I don’t even use this sort of gear… but what the kitten…)

Even if they made them only craftable… I would be fine with that (and it would help make crafting worth while again).

I spend most my time in WvW. I am not a fan of fractals. If I get ascended gear it’ll be through laurels/WvW. The only time I set foot into fractals is for the monthly. Hopefully I won’t have to do that at all in Feb. with the new changing goals.

Not sure… but it seems as if the OP is saying:

“It is not enough that I should succeed – others should fail.”

You should be happy that people that don’t want to mindlessly grind out fractals all the time have another way to try out higher fractals. You’re included in that btw. You now have more options… and you’re complaining?

The dev’s said long ago that they would be giving people access to ascended gear in all parts of the game and they regretted that it was only in fractals… they also said they weren’t happy with how they implemented fractal levels in the first place. They came through a bit with this patch. YAY!

I’m still waiting on ascended from WvW… but that’ll hopefully be apart of next month’s patch.

I think it’s kittened up. No p/p/t gear? Only +healing is on the + all stats version???

They already lack customization by not having any ability to change the 2nd 3set of stats; with epic jewelry I can slot in a gem to tweak the stats. They at least need to give us the basic gear stats that we’ve been able to craft/obtain since level 55… That’s not min-maxing. That’s wanting our normal choices.

Add in the non sequitur stuff later… like the pwr/pre/crit + pwr/crit/vit later.

Give us our normal gear choices back.

Hammer vs GS

I use both, but if I HAD to choose only 1… Hammer.

Explanation + rating of skills -

Auto attack – Chain is a little slow for the 3rd hit, but well worth it for that protection + light field + can’t be stopped. Easy AOE retal when combo-ed with MB. You just need to get used to how the 3rd hit works. You need to sort of slide it into your opponent. 4/5

MB hits for 4.5-5.5k with my gear Vs. fully geared 80’s on a 5s cd.
MB is a blast finisher which can be done at both ends of the attack (leaping out of or landing into the field)<- this is huge
MB is a short leap attack/gap closer VERY useful for staying on my target
Seriously… MB is frekkin’ boss. 5/5

ZE is a short->mid ranged LINE of rooting. Beyond that it’s improbable that it’ll hit the intended target. However, shoot this into the middle of a group and watch how many get rooted even if your “intended” target isn’t rooted. 3.5/5

Banish is a knockback that can knock downed players around. Lets me interrupt/shove people off of things… I’ll also use it to punt downed players into my group so that it’s far harder for my opponents to res them. 4/5

RoW is great with JI. Get used to the timing and it’s knockdown + light field + forces them to dodge/tele/stability. If they mess up trying to dodge out, they lose endurance and get knocked down again (although it really shouldn’t be bypassed by a dodge). Good for helping you escape as well (forces them to go around… if that’s even possible due to walls/terrain). If you don’t use JI I would rate this skill a 2/5… if you do… 4/5.

Vs. GS -

Auto attack is basic, pretty quick, gives might and good damage. 4/5

Whirling wrath – aoe, but vs 1 target does less dps vs just auto attack, it can proc a lot of might if you’re traited due to the number of hits. Procs sigils well for the same reason. It is very easy to mitigate with dodge/movement though. Putting a chill on swap can help with this… but I don’t like feeling that I’m forced to use a specific sigil to get it to connect reliably. The vigor nerf hurt this skill’s synergy with AH. 3/5 or 4/5 (depending on build/sigil)

LoF – Good leap range (600) + aoe bilnds (combos very well with vuln on blind). Good gap closer, but can miss targets due to elevation/terrain at times. Also useful to create a gap/get out. 4/5

SoW – roots you + cast time. The retal is nice, but no one is going to just sit in it… which will force you out of it yourself if you’re staying mele. 2/5

BB – Aoe projectile like attack. Pulls on 2nd. Another way to close the gap. Causes nice disruption/interrupts against a group. BIG plus for auto-targeting players regardless if they are stealthed or not. Can pull thieves out of refuge if done right. Some times the pull doesn’t seem to work properly and won’t pull them to you fully (seems mostly due to terrain… or if they are leaping away they just get stopped) 3/5

My normal two weapon setup(s) are H+GS (I use this a good 90% of the time) or H+Scepter/shield (for ranged/max cc/defense)

Note You can probably tell that this is mostly from a PvP PoV. WW being easy to mitigate doesn’t matter Vs. Mobs, constant gap closers aren’t as important in PvE, knockbacks aren’t as valuable in PvE etc. etc. etc.

Why is symbol of swiftness so bad?

When you have swiftness already it just resets the last 1s on the swiftness pulse. If you use the symbol first then a shout for swiftness it’ll add them together.

It can be used as an attack as well… I use it vs rams in WvW by placing it on the bottom of door while I pew pew though with the auto attack…

Hate it when some random mob patrols by after I’m down the way and puts me in combat… slowing me down… >:O

Guardian Having a Hard Time Killing Mesmers?

I’ve never lost a duel to a guardian on mesmer, maybe I’m just decent with the class since I played twitch pvp heavily in aion and have less to manage in this game but overall only the ones that put the pressure on hard really phase me. Its just too simple to repeatedly cripple them and gain large distances. You cant play like a an idiot against them and they have strong builds. Its just that the physics of overcoming so many mesmer gimic’s coupled by the factor guardian does alot of his business in melee range all stacks against him. Even if he burns my clones, on a squishy build thats just dooming him with confusion.

Generalization is bad I agree. Player skill varies alot, and a great player can do wonders regardless of his class. Some things are just a natural advantage however and coupled with a great player can give you an unbeatable edge.

I’ve had the total opposite experience. Never lost to a mesmer since the no illusion on dodge/block/blind patch.

I just remove the conditions + heal myself + damage the mesmer at the same time when I see confusion stacks (monks focus ftw for solo)… and they never really get many conditions on me in the first place (1 wiped every 10s and anti-condition duration food). I have little problem staying on the mesmer with 2 leaps on gs and hammer, a root, a pull, JI, and SY.

I did used to main a mesmer though… which gives me a very good edge. I know how bad some of the mechanics of the mesmer class are and how to use/abuse them. It’s really kittened up that mesmer is the only class that has aoe/multi hitting attacks that don’t even occur due to a single dodge/blind/block.

I always know what’s coming next… down to what phantasm they are casting because of the different animations etc. I can’t remember the last time I was actually hit by iZerker >.>

What a LOT of PvP down to in this game is knowing how and when to dodge. The last game I plaid before this one (Dragon Nest) had that same setup… if not more so. You mess up a single dodge in PvP in DN and your opponent can juggle/wall bounce you from 100%-0.

A 1.5 sec reaction time is horrifically slow. Almost unnatural.

The dude has 3.1k armor in sPvP and dies in 1.5s… In WvW you can easily kill people in less than that… and you’re implying that power and defense scaling is balanced? >.> Not sure if serious…

When you see their summon animation dodge/block/blind them (no illusion even appears when you do this). Doing this starves the mesmer of heal/f-key fuel… and they shouldn’t have any endurance because it forces them to dodge for their illusions. Start with a hammer. Mighty blow on the mesmer will pop all dodge roll illusions with the aoe and keep you on the mesmer with the short leap. Keep using leap weapons/attacks to stay on them and it should be np.

If you’re having issues trying to figure out which is the real mesmer… it’s the one that moves and/or doesn’t have a pause between auto attacks. If they stealth, it’s the one with a black dust swirl at their feet (this animation shows when stealth ends). If you’re in a party you can always call target on the mes to help you keep track.

There will be a lot of transfers going on before they start to charge for them. I welcome those who want to transfer to my server, but feel bad for all of the various servers that are going to have a dip in populations. It shouldn’t be permanent though… I expect that new people unable to get into the highly populated servers will start filling in the gaps. It’ll suck in the meantime though, so sorry for that

AH is for groups… it’s dependent on giving your allies boons to heal yourself, the healing from it just solo is weak post-vigor proc nerf. If you plan on being the first to charge into zergs or doing solo work, monk’s focus is far better (heals you when you use meditations).

For leveling just use dps gear with staff + greatsword and find a group of mobs. Use the staff to buff yourself with 12 stacks of might, then GS 5,4,3,2,1,1,1,1 and you’ll quickly have a lot of dead mobs. Then use the staff to give yourself swiftness and move on to the next group and repeat.

I’ve stopped playing for now, theres nothing to do.
I’ve got my gifts of fortune and mastery and everything for the gift of sunrise except the lodestones and Dawn, both of which are not worth the time as they currently are on the market.

I’ve done dailys each day but I’m sick of it now, nothing rewards you effectively in gold for honest hard work and yet some market players have like what? 2000 gold now?

A.net needs to rethink their market.

It’s not Anets fault that people are willing to sell things far too cheap via orders…

As a class that needs to be in mele range to do optimal damage it’s necessary to stay on top of your opponent.

Guardian has a few of ways to keep up. Swiftness shouts/JI/roots/wardings.

I do agree that guard should have acess to cripple or more chill as well though… and giving ranged classes more access to mobility when they don’t need to be in mele range to deal their damage is a bit wth…

If you’re off alone AH isn’t going to heal for much at all. Since the ah/vigor nerf you need to have people around you to have it work well. Try using monk’s focus for solo work instead.

Anything that creates a loop and yields extras is considered an exploit.

I really hope they are smarter about creating such things and then not telling people when they ask about it in the future. Seriously… they should have seen this before they implemented the item and also told the players after they asked about it.

Them giving a refund is the best thing they could have done given the circumstances and legal issues.

Many classes still have some serious problems that need to be dealt with which haven’t been fixed since launch. Other classes get the vast majority of their builds nerfed into the ground. Some nerfs have caused serious imbalances at higher end PvP. People get sick of constantly having to work around all of this.

Idk about necro as I don’t have one, but as far as mesmer… they are one of the classes where they have had their builds all nerfed into the ground (shatter is the last decent one).

PvE wise… their dps is low, and they can only really bring portal/time warp to the table (everything else another class can do better)

On top of that the blind/block/dodge =‘s no illusion mechanic is totally unfair and needs to be scrapped. The Dev’s consider illusions attacks and not summons (which they obviously are). But ok fine whatever… given that then… why are my mesmer’s multi-hitting/aoe attacks not even occurring due to a single blind/dodge/block? I’m fine with nerfs for balance… but this is very obviously an imbalance with the basic rules of the game (which I’m not ok with and have pretty much quit my mesmer due to this).

This doesn’t even get into the 30+ bugs that the mesmer still has…

Don’t even get me started on the current state of engineers…

On the other hand… I do love my guardian ;D

Drops are usually of my own level (80)… and most cloth comes from salvaging the cloth armors of that cloths lower level… so anyone got any tips on how to get lower level cloths?

Wat? Do you think revealed should be triggered when stealth time runs out? The revealed effect was only added to stop thieves from spamming their #1 stealthskill too fast.

This is more of an issue in WvW Vs. sPvP but kinda yes (some one linked this post in another thread).

Due to rendering/culling issues it needs to make the thief visible after their stealth ends for the full revealed time. Right now it’s not… therefore it should be lengthened so that it’s doing its job. This has been a problem for a long time and has no fix.

I’m fine with my theif/other thieves being able to stack stealth times if that’s what you were asking though…

Jumping up and down also seems to work to help avoid projectiles. I often do this when running out/away from a zerg etc. and notice shots whizzing above my head and not dealing damage. Not sure if being an asura helps me with this or not. Would like some one else to test it as well if they could.

I played a ranger and remember going against another ranger using a shortbow.
just taping the strafes sends the projectile on a path to intercept.

what would be good is to delay using an intercepting path until the person has been moving for a second.

but yes, i agree the auto attack projectile speed on the scepter needs to be increased.
The slow speed is just salt in the wounds for ranged weapons.
There is no reason for a Magical Orb of light not to change course and force the target to dodge. however they would need to reduce the auto attack speed as the chance for a hit has increased.

Looking for counter against P/D thieves

I haven’t lost a single 1v1 since playing P/D in PvP and WvW.

Sword/Dagger probably does have the best chance to beat it but it’s still not going to be easy because you need to melee him from behind.

Honestly I don’t know of any build of class that can reliably beat a P/D Thief.

That’s kinda funny… I haven’t died to a single P/D Thief on my guardian…

On guard it’s not hard at all with Signet of Resolve/Purity/Smite condition to wipe the stacking of condition damage. Passive heal/heal on dodge mitigate what happens in between those with ease. JI + Mighty blow + Leap of Faith to get me in mele range quickly. Binding blade to grab/pull (will target and work even if the thief is stealthed). Constant vigor and some basic dodge timing will also seriously mitigate sneak attack.

As P/D thieves only are really dealing with 1 condition and stacking it, removal is key to defeating them.

P/P is still horrid.

Damage from unload is sill very easily mitigated with dodge… and with that channel time it gives your opponent a long time to be able to mitigate. Every video I’ve seen with P/P thieves showing off is always vs people that apparently haven’t figured out that there is a dodge in this game.

It is very easy to use though… and in WvW it’s decent ranged damage for zerging (where things can get more confusing and people may miss that your unloading on them). Head shot is good for trolling stompers as well.

I love how guardians are crying about this… Ok this game is about moving from melee to ranged and back or fighting at a distance you are comfortable with. But spare a thought for rangers… You dont see them moan about their weapons… And yes you can negate any projectile skill with this movement. So while you guys seem to focus and moan about the one skill that is affected by this issue its brings to light that rangers arnt event mentioning this. And they have alot more skills that act like this.

It’s also a matter of degree.

The scepter is far harder to hit anything with than any other ranged weapon. You don’t even need to mini strafe. just change directions every few seconds. The orbs will keep moving on their pre-determined paths. For other ranged weapons you actually have to mini-strafe… which leaves you kinda stuck in one place.

Vs guard scepter you can just walk back and fowarth and have a far greater area of movement and still not get hit at all. Scepter is and has been in dire need of a fix.

That’s not to say that other ranged weapons aren’t as well… just that scepter is far worse off.

On topic, kitten – won’t be able to forcebug the 14k mind wracks and blame the game while people scream for exploit. 1/4 of a second is really nothing, minor change that will affect only the bug.

Funny thing, Anet didn’t fix the bug, they just made it impossible to execute. Always better to add something new instead of fixing the old kitten.

I think it’s a temporary bandaid until they can actually figure out what the problem is.
It seems they can’t identify what is causing it,so they added a preventing measure.
Better than doing nothing imo.

We have a winner! This was an especially bad problem so we did what we had to do given the resources we had to solve this while the studio was closed for the new year/holidays.

I agree this problem with mes was important to fix. I’m not complaining about the fix.

My problem is that we still haven’t had any sort of hotfix for people who abuse the bugs with stealth. My thief can stay invis for nearly the entire fight. My revealed debuff may as well not exist as I’m usually still invis for as long as it lasts. I’m just wondering why if this is the policy for strong bugs nothing has been done to resolve this issue with stealth in months?

You can outrun your own scepter projectiles with swiftness when out of combat. That’s how slow it is. A-net… seriously… please fix this.
