My combo for WvW is start channeling Ring of Warding, immediately Judges Intervention to trap my target. Open with Mighty Blow, followed by chains. If the chains land position for a Banish to knockback into my zerg. If I don’t have a zerg, swap to GS and Whirling Wrath followed by Binding Blade.

If things get dicey because I jumped into their zerg throw down a Wall of Reflection to cover my escape and use Renewed Focus + Lyssa Runes to avoid too much crowd control.

I do this basic combo as well (although I usually use a scepter/shield instead of gs and runes of the pack). It works quite well as JI makes it far less predictable. It’s rare that people don’t faceplant from the ring once… then they’ll usually dodge through it. That’s not bad… I just knocked them down (smacked them) and they used some energy.

I do agree that it shouldn’t allow players to go through on a dodge though… if this is an issue they can’t solve they need to lower the cooldown or buff it in some other way to make up for this.

No it doesn’t.

If you haven’t seen survivalist thieves sniping yaks no matter how many people is guarding it it’s because you haven’t played long enough or your opponents are unworthy. It’s actually not that difficult, you just need healing gears, and keep stealthing to heal. The yaks cannot fight back, so even if your damage is puny, as long as you can put out enough damage than the people can heal it (really really not difficult as a thief), it will die before it reach stone mist.

If you haven’t seen golem rushes traveling across the map in 5 minutes, and taking reinforced doors in 30s each, you have not seen an organized mesmer team executing those rushes. Well timed portals on a pre-scouted, pre-planned route is deadly enough. Constant time warps to double the golem’s DPS cuts the most time consuming part of the execution of the raid by half. No other classes can down objectives more efficiently than this.

I guess you didn’t deny the part about eles, but they are the ones that are blocking your siege, and nuking your siege whether there’s line of sight or not. Actually of all the advanced tactics in WvW, siege blocking is the only one that guardians can do with sanctuary. It’s just our bubble has a lot more downtime, and it doesn’t quite cover the span of one treb.

Nope, never had problems with thieves killing yaks. TC is in tier 2… we guard our yaks and have no problems vs thieves trying to kill them… so I think that’s just a l2p issue with whatever server you’re on. I don’t have issues vs stealth spamming… but it sound like you do… you might want to look up some videos on how to deal with stealthed players and how to burst as a guardian… then put A and B together.

Yes I’ve seen golems get portal-ed, not a big deal. Use your scouts they should easily be able to see this coming. Look for the big pink circles on the ground. Even if it’s successful, it’s pretty rare that golems will last much past the first tower. It’s been ages since I’ve even seen a golem attack get through 2 gates.

If you’re on a server that doesn’t use scouts and/or doesn’t respond quickly… then yea… this would be a problem… again… it’s not a class X, Y, Z is OP, it’s a l2p issue.

Eles can have some strong roles in WvW. They are by far better than mesmers and thieves for sure. But just flat out OP… nah. My only thing with eles is that vapor form needs a nerf… but that’s all.

What guards can do isn’t any less important… being able to take the focus of an entire zerg and live… giving your team time to attack… is worth a lot. At the same time you can remove conditions from your entire party and convert them into boons… and be a cc/buff machine. A guard can do all of those… at the same time. I’ve even pushed back entire zergs with just LoW + WoR. A mes/thief/ele can’t do what a guard can in those areas. So instead of calling the other classes OP… take some time to explore what you can do

If you go into the other forums you’ll see mes/thief/ele players complaining about Guardians being OP. This just seems to be an overall issue with some people in this game. People want everything good from every other class or that class that has something they don’t is just labeled as OP.

If you really feel that thief/mes/ele are a better fit for you and what you want to do… then go roll one. Others can deal with them and their abilities/tactics just fine as a guardian and you can too if you put in the effort

I see you have misunderstood our posts. No one said any class is OP or UP. Merely that some class can fill more roles, and hence be the preferred class. It is no coincidence that those classes are simply more commonly seen.

^ obviously you were stating that you feel that they are not balanced. Me saying that they aren’t OP was just my way of saying they aren’t any stronger/weaker. Sorry that you took that so literally and that should clear things up for you a bit.

Also about the populations of the classes in WvW… I see a very strong correlation with the number of each class being played in WvW & PvE… with the exception of thieves. I do see more thieves in WvW than anywhere else. They don’t really bother me in WvW at all though and I’m always glad they aren’t another class.

Not sure what you mean with the knee jerk reactions thing… I’m just stating my opinion and giving reasons. If you still disagree that’s fine. I just know I’m not finding any of that stuff to be true as I’ve learned to counter it and found myself playing an important role in WvW.

well, for most people “dps” specs are not appealing because they are “selfish” – you don’t support your party as much as you could be. other professions already have much higher damage by default, so most see little reason to build for that.

never the less, i’m curious to see if there are any dpsers among very high fractalers…

In WvW if you can break the enemy line and effectively kill large swaths of people quickly and effectively you are worth far more then the sheep that sit backline and do nothing but support IMO.

+1 The dps types are a dime a dozen. Usually it’s only a few who are actually pushing into the zerg.

It’s funny how many dps types will quickly switch to downed targets to just try and leech badges and then will run away at the drop of a hat -.-

Ok so tell me what a thief can do to help oh so much in WvW? It’s widly known & accepted that they don’t play much of a role other than killing stragglers/noobs…

1. Dagger Storm

Just mele stomp them

2. Unlimited blast finishers with SB, if build for it.

Now compare this to Mighty blow… which has an all of 4s cd

3. SB #3 to weaken enemy healing.

A pois field isn’t game breaking to say the least

4. Kill dolyaks no matter how many people are guarding it.

Blatantly false

5. Sneak into open towers and solo them after your enemy think it’s save (you can stay invisible infinitely while using CnD on the gate or any NPC).

You can see and hear the npc’s being hit and occasionally attacking something, this should be a huge giveaway

6. Stealth your group for sneak actions.

Short duration, if you have a scout this isn’t an issue at all, just back up to counter as you would when you’re fighting them 1v1

All that mes can do is portal and time warp… those are only really useful with golems. That’s pretty niche use. I guess they are nice for the jumping puzzle though(?)

1. Help getting supply in attacked towers/keeps.

Not sure what server you’re on where people just freely let you run back and forth with supplies near a zerg… unless they are letting you get a steady flow of it from supply camps (again, idk who would let you do this)… 10 supplies here and there isn’t going to matter

2. AoE confusion destroys zergs.

Only if they are really really dumb and pick to start spamming attacks when the confusion was just applied. It’s all of 3 seconds and is a small aoe.

3. Feedback.

Just walk out of the bubble

4. Pull enemies away from siege or off walls.

Killing the siege is far better, will only pull people off of walls if they are dumb… don’t stand on ledges

5. AoE regeneration for your team, if traited.

The phantasms that give off the regen die in 1-2 hits. They won’t live through any aoe.

6. Veil!

Oh look, a small area where people are going towards and going invis… binding blade and then whomp them

Eng has one of the worst downed state in the game…

Auto attack does nearly no damage, the #2 is a pull… it will stop a single stomp, but do you ever want some one to closer to you when you’re downed??? #3 has a very long cooldown… to the point where it’s like… yea right i’ll be getting to use that… should be down with necro’s and rangers.

About the Mesmer GS beam. Well, if you’re not a thief, ele or mesmer, you are already a second rate citizen in WvW. Though if you are JI specced, you should be able kill the mesmer first… unless it’s some sort of culling abusing invis build. In those cases there’s really no one skill that can save you. It’s no magic “I win” button, but it does the job most of the time.

This made me lol. Guards are top tier in WvW. Not sure what problem you’re having specifically.

Mesmers have been nerfed into the ground. If you understood what they’ve done to them you wouldn’t be complaining.

Here… I’ll teach you how to kill any mesmer. Dodge/block/blind at the time of their illusion summon. No illusion will appear. This is huge. They are the only class where multi-hitting/aoe attacks just don’t occur due to a single dodge/block/blind.

Use mighty blow to kill any clones that pop up near the mesmer from their dodge roll. MB should pop them with the area damage, no need to target them specifically

Now their f-skills have no fuel. If you mess up a bunch and they try to shatter on you, just run. The clones will self destruct after a set distance and do no damage to you.

Grats you can kill any mesmer now and just laugh.

Btw… they also just nerfed them again… there is a .25s cooldown on their shatters now. Might not seem like much but it hurts them even more.

Thieves/Eles shouldn’t kill you. You can counter the thief burst. Ele conditions arn’t that hard to deal with if you have smite condition (+ monks focus ftw). You probably won’t be able to kill them either if they have any skill though.

When did I say I die to those classes?

Maybe you should learn what actually matters in WvW?

All that mes can do is portal and time warp… (your guard can produce haste as well btw…)

Portals aren’t useful to help people inside anymore as everyone sweeps for mesmers.

I guess they are nice for the jumping puzzle though(?)

Btw… killing does matter in WvW. It’s just not the only thing that matters.

Mesmers are in a far worse state than warriors are right now… and have been since the blind/block/dodge =’s no illusions summon class breaking nerf… but wars are still not op. Mesmer just needs a total rework.

IMO… Monks > AH if you can swing it into your builds. AH is now too relyant on others being around you for it to work without the many vigor procs it gave before. In PvP you can’t always count on other people to always be in range for that trait to work.

+1 to the use scepter > 1h sword. This will also give you a ranged option.

Your build doesn’t have selfless daring… that makes me cry manly guardian tears T.T

I’ve noticed that gold that you’ve gotten from sales on TP isn’t displayed if you have a lot of things to pick up. It’ll show up as I pick up my other items though.

Is this a bug or is it just sort of… in the middle of the list of things waiting for me to pick up?

Nothing is actually lost as well, just waiting to be collected further down the list, correct?

Fix culling and I would be a very happy camper. But I doubt it’ll happen.

Realistically… more of the same. Probably new jumping puzzles due to the monthly.

Expansion of where you can obtain Ascended items would be really nice, but that’ll probably happen in feb with the PvP updates. That PvP patch will be very make or break for this game for me and many others.

I do mine in WvW… all of it. Plenty of mob types and events to go around… plenty of nodes to gather. One stop shopping. 1h+ on all of the boarderlands? Really? o.O I’m on a tier 2 server and we don’t have that.

Also Jormag has more than 3-4 events, each of the summoned crystals in the pre-event count as an event for the daily… get all of those and you’ll have your daily events done np. Just smack each crystal around for a little while. No need to actually take it from full→dead.

I’m just running through the 3 LA JP’s on my 4 80’s every day… shouldn’t take long and I’ll get some easy booty while I’m at it ^^

Not sure why, but doing the winter’s event JP doesn’t count towards this monthly
Not a huge deal though… I’ll still do it daily for the karma and boosters without it counting towards this monthly anyways :P

No mesmer does not do a lot of dps when compared to the other classes. You can burst a bit, but again… when compared other classes… they can do that better too.

If people are dying in PvE that’s a l2p issue. Seriously… PvE in GW2 is NOT hard >.> That’s also why I don’t mind taking a person of any class along… but if I could pick my team and not feel like I’m excluding guildmates… I would never bring along a mesmer.

As far as PvP mesmers in a fight are one of the best classes vs. scrubs and one of the worst vs. pros. Scrubs will run around swatting at clones and eating shatters. Pros will blind/dodge/block with good timing and your illusions won’t even appear. That means your f-abilities have few resourses to use… and you’re toast.

If you’re going into sPvP mesmers can do some nice things on certain maps with portal tricks…. just don’t expect to be there for your abilities in a fight.

I haven’t died to a single mesmer since they changed the blind/block/dodge = no illusion rules. Not a single one. I don’t consider myself a pro, or to have more skill… it’s just that those rules are SO kitten imbalanced vs competent players -.-

I’ve been more in a watching-mode this week, than direct posting mode since some of the posts are so facepalm-worthy. Sure, you bought the game and its your own keyboard so you can type what you want or play the way you want. But to those few TC posts about some possible non-aggression towards SoR, first of all – was it agreed at server-wide level? If not, pls don’t try to post it as if it has been agreed upon so as to avoid any confusions. If there’s anything agreed upon, I’d like to have regular commanders comment on this – I see SoR has denied anything of sorts and TC regulars didn’t mention anything yet.

To my knowledge, we’ve been doing good so far despite having many people still on vacations, and the same can be said for all 3 servers. I don’t see the need or desperation to call for an alliance yet when none of the 3 servers are at their full capacity with the holidays, and all 3 servers holding their ground well so far. It’s only our 2nd week in this tier and we’re still in the “testing the waters” mode while bringing our best fights with current numbers against these both.

BG & SoR seems to have some bad blood between themselves, and I’ll leave it at that for them to deal with each other. We really don’t have to ask any particular server to only focus on one enemy and not fight us while we’re dealing with both of them, it’s their choice and their willingness whether to aim for 1st or settle at 2nd or whatever.

Honestly, I haven’t seen these posters make a single post here in the past representing TC and suddenly they come over here asking for alliances and stuff – I mean not sure if these are new transfers or just someone who has nothing to do with TC just posting something to make us look weak and are not aware of how TC rolls in general. We don’t back off from a fight, nor do we have to request other server to not attack us (except if its a peacewalk or JP or something like that). We got good strong people willing to stand up and fight by themselves and some great commanders who can lead their team to some epic battles.

I’m on TC and I disagree with this.

No JP truce! All JP-ers need to die! I would even help the other servers kill our JP-ers if it was possible. SoR and BG PLEASE… I BEG you to camp the JP 24/7. Make sure to use lots of siege in there to prevent groups of people from getting through together. Thanks in advance

Had BG kept TC down in the points, they probably would have been in T1 next match with SBI coming down.

But since TC is gaining points and BG seems to have SoR on the brain, they are losing their rating gain.

This matchup will probably go another 2-3 weeks, at which point, BG will have sat in T2 the longest of any “T1 ready” server and any rating gain from wins at that point will be negligible again since SoR is sitting in T2 for 8 weeks and TC will have been in there a month, TC will become the new IOJ and BG will be stuck in T2 limbo. And we’ll have BG/SoR/TC for another 6 weeks.

Since we’ll all be together for a while… can’t we just stop fighting and learn to accept each other? I know we’re all different but I’m sure we can all get along and just cuddle… wait… what?… they… killed our baby yak?

In no particular order -

1) No badges in WvW JP, put them in as dalies/rewards for objectives <- SERIOUSLY READ THIS A-NET
2) Fix downed states (Same hp on down as SPvP, no rally on killing a random deer, DR on # of ressers ->healing… also make vapor form not go through keep/tower portals)
3) Remove badges from bags until we have auto loot. Instead reward them for goals/per X # of kills.

Or is the correct answer: Roll a DDele/thief and speed around the map ready to gank unsuspecting solo travellers for your 50 badges an hour rate.

Best answer: Get in a group, run camp to camp flipping. Super will drop badges, and with a 5 man team you will be able to contend with just about any enemies you come across (avoiding their zerg, naturally.)

Yes please run around on a DD ele/thief. I need more badges from people who think they can just try gank me and run away if they fail.

Super’s don’t drop badges that often. I have gotten some nice $ rewards from the bags the ogres/moles drop in EB though.

I guess for some it’s just a matter of finding something easy/useful to do in the mean time while waiting for some one to say “mesmer portal up in the jp”

Because manipulation of the downed state is one of the major advantages of working together, and one of the only ways that GW2 allows you to directly support a eachother in a large group.

That doesn’t add depth or tactics, that excessive revive healing just helps the scrubs who would have otherwise just died. I know scrubs don’t like dying more, but there needs to be more of punishment for not playing well than just being in a zerg that continually revive itself with far too much silly downed state healing.

The punishment for not playing well is losing in an evenly matched (terrain/gear/numbers wise) or even slightly advantageous position. The force multiplier effect of individual skill absolutely affects battle outcome, it just doesn’t supercede all over factors, nor should it.

Being downed shouldn’t just be a “meh” for the player. It should be an “aw frak me”

The TTK in GW2 doesn’t really allow for downed state to be that significant. Being downed isn’t being defeated, and players are intended to spend some time in the downed state no matter how good they are, it is just a part of combat. You may wish that was how it worked, but it doesn’t, and GW2 would need a lot of rebalancing to make it that way.

You don’t need to remove the downed state, just make it harder for people to get back up/heal the downed person. You could still help your allies, but not to the point where you can just rally them while they are being attacked by multiple foes or before half of the stomp animation is done. That’s just silly.

If you disagree with that then I’m sorry… you just don’t like dying and don’t want to worry about being killed as long as you have enough people around you.

It also encourages the current zerging state of WvW… which the dev’s have said they don’t like. This would help remove some of the incentive for that.

As far is it being too hard… some one suggested how to do it in this thread very easily…

1. Same downed health in WvW as sPvP

3. Remove PvE rally in WvW
4. Each additional rezer beyond first should increase the rez speed by less and less.

The problem atm is that people can far too easily revive you from before some one can finish half the stomp animation… or have no issues reviving a player while having 3 people attack the person in the downed state.

It should be 1/8 bags gives you a badge drop. With a rate like that though… you’ll often have long periods of time without getting any. The mystic forge is 1/5 for an upgrade and we all know how that goes… so WvW has a worse chance than that… expect random long badge droughts : /

This is why I keep saying they need to remove the badges from the kitten jumping (portal me up) puzzles and put them into actual WvW. Give them to us for capturing points as a daily. Leave the greens and toss 1 more siege in the chest.

I would be fine with them keeping the jp in WvW… just have the final chest give 3 siege and a couple of greens.

No more jumping for PvP badges (most don’t even jump, and just ask for a mesmer portal). Whoever thought that would be a good idea to be in the jumping chests has hopefully been fired for incompetence.

Take those badges and put them in as extra rewards for capturing keeps/towers/camps, etc… you know… actually doing WvW…

Take out the WvW→PvE related farming buffs as well. Instead of increased drops rates for the people NOT participating, put in more drops in WvW for the participants.

These are very obvious things that should have been changed a long time ago. -.-

in a day off just kill enmeies I made 7 and that was over 4 hours playing. It would take 71 day’s to get 500. I’d love to know how you get it in 2-3 weeks with out dungeons.

It’s class dependent. Just depends on you getting into a party and then how well your class can do ranged aoe.

Seen SoR do it for 7 weeks straight and TC do it since they got to tier 2. THe difference is we don’t come post about it on the forums.

If you see TC players doing this PLEASE bring it to the light of day. I have never seen or been a part of any rubbish like this. Obviously no one can be everywhere at once though, so PLEASE inform some one on TC if this is happening. We don’t want this sort of thing going on the in the TC server.

Btw… I’ll just take your statement as
“Yea we do this sort of stuff… but others do too…”

As if that’s any justification…

To keep things in perspective though… it’s just a few people in that vid doing some lame/cowardly exploitation. Not a huge deal. I hope it’ll be fixed in Feb. At the same time though… behavior like this shouldn’t be defended.

It’s pretty bad when people regularly start attacking nearby mobs when they are starting to loose a fight. You actually have to turn and focus the mob down first or else you have to deal with a mob rally.

I’ve come to terms that downed is here to stay it just needs changes.

Which is why the class is broken. Activating a skill that allows you to have extra stealth intended or not is a broken mechanic.

Being able to outrun every class while stealthed is a broken mechanic.

Being able to do pretty much insta kill on clothes and insane damage to heavies and get a garaunteed get out of jail free class is a broken mechanic.

I understand how thieves should be played and that they need their stealth. But to be able to stealth through out an entire fight is a rubbish mechanic. You have dodges and phasing and teleportations/shadow step as evasion tactics. To add stealth in there is just taking the biscuit.

I think stealth should just be on a much longer cool down. At least this way the thief get their chance to do the assassination style they love to do but the draw back is they have to do it in a certain amount of time without a get out of jail free card. If they fail they can still GTFO of dodge quicker then any class in the game.

So you suggest nerfing Thief because of a bug in culling that affects everyone?

The things that were put in place to stop the thief from doing what it’s doing right now are broken due to bugs. These bugs won’t be dealt with for some time. They need to do a short term fix until the bugs are dealt with.

Proof reading for illogical arguments doesn’t help much if those people can’t think logically in the first place. At least you have to give Aberrant credit for choosing an appropriate name for himself.

I suggested a fix that would break thief in all other parts of the game? Where did I suggest a fix at all in here? The only temporary fix I’ve suggested in other threads is to increase the revealed time so that thieves are visible for some amount of time… and then to roll that back once the main issue is resolved. Even with that, thieves would still be getting in those free initial hits.

Seriously… all I did was state how the current bugs help thieves more than other classes.

If you feel that the thief needs no working reveal debuff, little to no visible time, and the ability to get in free hits before they can be seen to function then that’s just sad…

I know a lot of thieves have become reliant on these bugs, but it’s not at all balanced, nor what the dev’s had intended.

I refuse to play my bug exploitative thief. It was my first 80 and I’ve been waiting a long long time for some fixes which have not come.

I want my thief to functioning properly.

You might want to consider rolling up an alt. If that’s what you need, it doesn’t sound like you’ll like thief at all once it’s working as intended. I on the other hand can’t wait.

PvE Dung – Doesn’t matter to me much, just don’t be a baddie and we’ll finish it with no problems.

PvE Farming – War, Guard, everything else, mesmer

PvP – (imho)

Ele (over Guard due to Ele having by far the best downed state in the game)

Thief (due to being able to seriously abuse in game bugs… after that’s fixed I would drop them way down)

I can’t believe I saw some one rank Mesmer #1 for PvP… >.<

It’s the only class that has multi-hitting/aoe attacks that can be stopped by a single dodge/blind/block (I only call illusions attacks as the dev’s have deemed them to be so). Those attacks also fuel their class f-keys. The result is that a mesmer is very easy for a good player to completely shut down. They are the most punishing class vs. people that don’t understand the mechanics behind the class though… you know… those people that can’t tell which are the clones (lol)

Depends on the timing and what’s been done to fix the game. Less than a year from initial game release… no. If the imbalances and bugs are still around… no. If things are fixed and they don’t try to push it out too soon… then defiantly yes.

So when this does happen I hope they take their sweet time on it to make it as high quality as possible. I don’t mind waiting. I do mind buggyness that makes it feel like it’s still in a beta phase.

holy crap i’ve never get so many rares—— sorry to keep going off topic

for a while i was saving every rare I got from dragon killing in my bank but I never got near to what you guys have been blowing through…

oh well, maybe I am wrong but I’d still like some reassurance from Anet as to what some indications of our chances are for salvaging and drop rates… however, other players who are saying that things are within the standard deviation make me feel better about things because I know that not only are they being completely honest, they are also, without any doubt, completely accurate in everything they say without providing the math behind their claims…

It’s a good idea not to salvage them one at a time… helps to stop you from getting upset when you don’t get anything from them.

I don’t just depend on dragons or farming for my rares… although I know people that do.

We all have 3 toons that just sit at the dragons to avoid the WP costs (which add up). They kill every dragon they can when they pop up (it’s kitten nice to have that announcement in guild hahahaha) The ones that only do dragons generally save them up for 1-2 weeks then salvage them all for a payday and get the same general results.

cool and all but do you pay real money to get the mystic salvage kits? I get them from playing in-game but i don’t do whatever it takes to get a lot of them :p

I haven’t spent anything on this game other than the game itself.

I bought a lot of gems early on when they weren’t expensive, then during the thanksgiving sale I bought tons of mystic forge stones at a discounted price. I still have about 3k gems left… but after I blow through these last 20 mystic stones… I’ll have to go do the math to see if it’s even worth it to do what I’ve been doing for ecto’s/gold anymore (which I doubt).

I just did the math for myself, it comes out to 1.12s per charge of a mystic kit and ~62c for a charge of a master’s. It’s up to you if the rate increase is THAT much better, but for me it’s master’s kits until the price on gems drops back down.

To the other guy: no one salvaging 1000 rares is looting them all. They are all getting bought up off the TP

Btw… a good thing to do… when you do happen to get those BL kits for free from your daily… don’t use them on rares! That way you’ll get a profit on the upgrade no matter what happens… and the extra ecto’s are just very nice icing (do not try this with non-BL kits!!!!)

Too much imbalance and too many bugs in this game atm. However if you look at early WoW… there was a lot of balance/bug issues there as well.

GW2 not having any subscription fees also means that if they do fix things… the players can just come back.

On the other hand MMO’s seem to be coming out far more regularly now than they were back in the early WoW days. People may wind up just moving on.

So overall… IMO probably not, but feb will be a large determining factor in this.

I salvage massive numbers of items. I blow through stacks of mystic salvage kits at an alarming rate. I get about 1 ecto per item on average with them. There are streaks where i get none for a while, but that’s later made up by getting 2’s and 3’s.

Your statement would be the true if ANet was flipping coins or Rolling Dice but the reality is that there is nothing Random about a Computer Random Number Generator. Computers do not spit out random numbers. The output only appears random. Computers have to operate within a specific set of guidelines.

You can get a computer to spit out random numbers… Random.org does it by using atmospheric noise to produce the numbers instead of just a formula.

I’m sure this game doesn’t do that though… :P

The RNG in this game isn’t at all bad at being random from what I can tell. What I think the problem is that most people expect far fewer streaks than what will happen in a random situation.

People expect 4 upgrades when they do 20 flushes of the mystic toilet, every set of 20 rares salvaged to produce a total of 20 ectos, etc… because that’s the average. But that’s just not how it works. The sample sizes are just too small. Within a small sample you can have all sorts of results which… don’t really mean anything.

Manipulation of the chances… is a totally different beast…

I agree with people that don’t like the randomness in their game… I would prefer a set 1 ecto per rare and for the mystic toilet to just require a set # of the same quality item to produce an upgrade. But oh well : /

Why I hate my mesmer:

Illusions do not spawn if your target dodges/blocks/blinds you making it very easy to shut down a mesmer. Mesmer the only class with multi-hitting/aoe attacks that simply do not occur due to a single blind/block/dodge.

Non-shatter builds have been nerfed into the ground.

I strongly disagree with the decent DPS part. If a person dies that’s a l2p issue.

PvE you can’t add anything into a party that another class can’t do better other than time warp.

How to level up in PvE as a Guard:

Use a gs, then run into some mobs. press 5,4,3,2,1 (repeat 1 until they are dead).

Shouldn’t have a problem with mobs running away, only a few specific ones do that at low hp (like those beastly crazy strong moas) but they’ll return to you in a few seconds.

What sounds like is happening to you might also be that if you take a mob too far away from it’s starting point it’ll reset. This is how to prevent that…

Imagine your screen has 9 boxes, 3 top, 3 mid, 3 bottom. Keep them in the top right and top left boxes and move in a small circle to keep them there. This will both keep you in a close area and help prevent them from hitting you at the same time.

It takes like 5 hits to down me, I’m pure glass. If you can’t manage that, then L2P, cry more, etc.

^ This is the problem.

It’s not a l2p issue it’s a thief constantly exploits serious bugs issue.

Meaning it’s not an OP issue either.

I’ve never understood why people clamor harder for a nerf than they do for a bug fix when the bug is the real problem, but in all honesty you aren’t likely to see ANet do anything about either of them.

It’s an OP issue because these bug exploits make thieves OP.

People are asking for nerfs now because we’ve been told that dealing with the bugs themselves will take a while. Thus… nerf thief until the bugs are fixed… then un-nerf them after.

A good dev balances the game for the current state of the classes, not what they think it’ll be like in a while… that’s just silly and leave a class OP/overly nerfed for months on end.

Wanting temporary fixes in place now to deal with what is happening now… and wanting bug fixes when they are finally able to fix them are not mutually exclusive.
