Just having them target mobs over nearby crates etc. would be a large improvement… I also don’t see how it would be hard to have them automatically change targets after the first obstructed shot to prevent it from just shooting at a wall.

IMO the number 1 attack should just be stronger and 2 should have more range.

1 is just pathetically weak and the random debuffs which (other than the bleed) don’t wind up helping you kill off what’s hurting you before you die to rally once you’re downed.

2 is totally useless if they are just shooting you from range (which I’ve often done vs eng’s)

3 is a good aoe blast to get everything off of you… not really for damage so I don’t feel it needs a change.

Downed states in general are in serious need of a balance…

I don’t understand what the logic was with the recent changes.

Logic? They have two people working on like how many, ~500 skills? Those guys obviously don’t play WvW themselves, or they wouldn’t have come up with that ingenious 60s to 90s cooldown “solution” for portals in WvW. Also they don’t play mesmers, or they would have instantly noticed what the fix broke. There’s not even methodical testing required, just fooling around a bit. All that’s behind this drama is economization.

I have no clue why they only have 2 people working on game balance… it’s ridiculousness. At least have one for every class so they can show what’s going on through the POV of their class. Filtering everything through the POV of a signet warrior isn’t going to make for a well balanced game. I highly doubt that they understand the mechanics behind every single class as well as the players of those classes do… which is what led to this disaster of an update. Hire more people to work on this.

I guess it’s just early on in the development of this game and they didn’t fully think through or test this on all classes before implementing it. It would be good for you and us if you made a test server and implemented your patches there for us to test and give feedback to the 2 devs before applying it globally. Also higher more people.

When I can fight a boss by summoning three phantasms and then sit there and autoattack because that’s my best option, something might be a bit wrong.

o.O what rubbish boss are you fighting that doesn’t sneeze and kill the phantoms with aoe or just about any attack?

Also you should be doing other support skills when you have 3 phantoms up. If you’re just doing auto attack you’re not using your class to its maximum.

If they self shattered after 1 attack then they would have to change the mechanics of our shatter skills and many of our traits. Having them on a timer like thieves guild would be fine with me though… just buff up their dmg and hp to compensate.

Just a quick side note… you can’t stop thieves guild or summons by other classes by hiding behind a tree… or dodge/blind/block… having our summons just not appear in these situations goes against the rules for every other class in the game. It’s unfair and needs to be adjusted.

Phantasmal disenchanter and defender doesn’t do significant damages either.

I disagree on both of these; Damage is definitely not their focus, but they still do hurt things enough to feel warranted. Whether or not they do damage or not isn’t the focus on whether they should be able to be mitigated either. See one of my other posts about this.

They do such piddly damage they may as well not deal any. Heck… we would prefer defender did not try to attack things lol.

You can kill phantoms… in all of 1 hit… two if you use a weak attack… that’s how you can mitigate them. Bouncing shots and aoe were the bane of the mesmer. Now it’s a dodge -.- I wish I could kill other peoples skills as easily as phantoms can be killed.

This last patch broke the core mechanics of any phantom use in this class. I’m done with it until this isn’t the case. There goes hundreds of hours and 50g or so I spent on gear and extra bagspace -.-

Dear god that was awesome xD I also totally agree with the comments on that video. No phantoms coming out from obstructed/block/blind/dodge = class unplayable with anything other than clones -.-

The clones are subject to this rule now too, so now all anyone has to do to completely remove your ability to do anything but run and hit like a limp noodle is rotate blind, aegis, and dodge. (heck, you cant even use defender or distortion without the clones active. Imagine the uproar if they announced next patch that guardian wards and blocks would fail if they were blind)

Wow… it’s even worse than I thought?! I stopped playing my mes after I saw the zerker dmg and another phantom got obstructed in the middle of an empty field. All of this just makes me wonder why I’m even bothering to re-roll to play this game at all anymore until they work this rubbish out.

If I dodge a necro pet’s attack… the pet doesn’t dissapear. They can still use their other attacks tied to that disposable pet. Thieves guild doesn’t just not appear if I dodge/blind/bock the thief at the time they are summoned. If I blind/block/dodge a turret’s first shot the turret doesn’t just explode.

If they changed those to how mesmer is now it would actually change their classes LESS than this has changed ours due to how very tied we are to our illusion generation.

Mesmers are now the ONLY class that has multi hitting attacks which can be totally countered with a simple single block/blind.

This is unacceptable.

Either apply this across the board to all classes or remove this change.

The patch hit mesmer the hardest by far… atm our phantoms are doing 50% damage (bugged) aren’t being generated if they dodge/block/blind (not a bug but I don’t think they understood how severe of a nerf this was) and we still have a list of 20+ serious bug issues which have never been resolved. Changing to any other class is an upgrade at this current point in time.

Also thieves weren’t hit very hard in this patch other than dancing daggers. They still seem to be pretty happy as a whole.

My feedback: Horrid patch. Destroyed several class builds and almost the entire mesmer class. Nerfs implemented without replacing/modifying skills to make up for the nerfs. Bugs abound, not many of the fixes actually fixed anything. Event not working properly.

This feels as if it’s still in an early beta phase.

Further testing before full launch is needed. More people need to be on board as far as what is decided to be nerfed and how. Too many nerfs had too many consequences for builds that didn’t need to be nerfed.

New level of gear added that wasn’t necessary and only adds to a grind for ever higher stats on gear.

Not sure if they just changed this to 10% for all foods but not the tooltip… but I’m not getting the +10 extra xp when I have the food buff on. I’ve tried this with multiple different low level foods and not getting the +10xp with any of them.

Sword off-hand; block the burst.

When he stealths, you stealths.

When he’s going to hit you; immunity up.

When he gets close, blink away.

Stun him with your off-hand pistol.

etc

etc.

There are many options, just find something that works for you. Go into an empty sPvP match with a thief friend and practice. Every defeat is a chance to learn.

I would also add that putting 15 points into chaos will help against ANY burst damage class. Once your hp hits 75% you gain regeneration which then also procs the protection. 33% damage reduction against a burst damage class + some toughness makes it feel like they are hitting you with pillows and should give you plenty of time to react before the protection wears off.

They should JUST prevent beeing able to spawn a berserker in Wv3 accros a stronghold wall and THAT’s ALL.
Since that’s the only problem.

Give us back the ability to spawn fantasm like before this awfull update.

The mesmer is really so bad now…

I’m fine with them not being able to be summoned around corners etc. as well… but that’s with the los working properly… which it isn’t. A good compromise might be if they are around a corner/out of los that the phantoms are summoned next to us then run out quickly (like with Illusionary leap). This would make it more akin to the illusions in thieves guild in that case (which in NO case just doesn’t summon the thief phantoms).

Multi hitting phantoms not even being generated is ridiculousness though.

I can’t dodge/blind/block the first damage tick of any other multi-hitting skill from any other class and just have the rest of the attacks appear. Please apply this to all other classes so that this is the case or fix our phantoms.

Oh! Well have fun with another class then.

My mesmer with 600 hours (actually played, not just open client) didn’t even notice the nerf.

I also have 3 full sets of Exotics and about 20 different exotic weapons of 3 different stat sets.

I guess I just know how to play a mesmer better.

You might want to pay attention to your skills more than your gear then… It should be immediately noticeable when there is a 50%+ bug going on with one of your skills and your multi hitting phantoms aren’t being generated due to a single blind/block. But yea, you sound pro…

I would just ask that if they plan on keeping the blind/block stuff that they apply it to all classes. It kills the mesmer’s skill regardless of the number of hits the skill does or if it is aoe… I expect every other class to have this happen to them as well. Ex. A blind ele’s meteor storm should miss every attack, or a single block should make it all miss, etc.

Also their defensive skills should not activate if they are blind or their opponent is blocking (as this is what happens with phantasmal defender)

If not, please fix this issue with the phantom summoning with the mesmer class. It’s unfair to single us out in this regard.

Prescient Observations about how this is an unbelievable double-standard vs every other profession:

Except this is not the same[as everyone else’s normal attack]. For every other class the attack still comes out.

If an Elementalist casts meteor storm and the opponent dodges, at least there’s still a fire field on the ground to use.

If a Thief uses steal and the opponent rolls, the Thief still ends up behind the opponent (In fact the Thief can steal regardless of any status effect on him).

If a Mesmer uses Warden and the opponent has Aegis, I hope you weren’t planning on it reflecting projectiles because now the attack won’t even appear.

In fact I can’t think of anything else that is like this. Does an Engineer’s turrets not spawn if he’s out of range? Does a Ranger not evade attacks with his third Greatsword attack if he’s blinded? Does a Mesmer not get his whirl combo finisher if he doesn’t have line of sight? Oh wait, he doesn’t because the attack doesn’t happen at all if the phantasm doesn’t come out.

No other class can have their attack “not happen” unless they are interrupted. Essentially rolling, blinding, aegis, evasion, ect… now all “interrupt” the Mesmer preventing them from even attacking with 20% of their attacks.

I couldn’t agree more. This is ridiculous.

If they wanted to make our phantoms more like thieves guild I wouldn’t have any problems with that. They sit by the player and wait for things to come into los then jump on them. Make ours do that if they aren’t in los. In NO case do they just not appear at all. Blind/dodge make no difference with thieves guild as well.

Seriously, the amount of overreaction here is ridiculous. Nerf???? 30 second cd to portal is pretty much negligible in its effects. Moa? we now get it underwater, and from what I’ve checked with my guildies the only noticeable changes we saw were skills 4 (a typical moa daze) and 5 (a warrior type charge).

And the LoS thing? absolutely broken as it was. Some of the comments I’ve seen……. >.> you can swap to staff on sieges, I do, and I have no problem hitting targets on walls. You know what? lets have thief summoned thieves not need LoS, and Elementalist and Necro pets! All pets! any pets!.

Mesmer remains one of the strongest classes in the game. I didn’t really notice the blind thing, since with Iwarden I had already seen it blocked/obstructed/evaded and not spawn, so I thought it was the same with all those kinds of skills (also thought moa worked that way) and it makes sense to me.

Thieves guild doesn’t require you to have a target at all to summon them.

Phantoms are not pets.

It’s a PvP zone and people are complaining that people are doing siege PvP there and claim it’s griefing? What’s next… I can’t push some one off of a vista with my mesmer?

If this really bothers you, then instead of doing the jumping puzzle go do Wv3 until you own the map. You’ll get more loot per time (presuming you’re not a bad player) from doing that and help your server more vs. doing a jumping puzzle anyways. Then once there is little to do on the map and everyone has left… go do the jumping puzzle. Problem solved.

Ok… just to clear this all up… even though I thought I was clear in the first place… I’m not interested in skins, I have the gear that I want.

I’m not interested in buying gathering tools as I don’t farm and that would take up too much space. Not a bad suggestion though ^^

I’m not interested in achievements. Just gold.

Given that what’s the best way to turn karma→gold? I know it won’t be a great ratio of karma→gold, but what’s the more efficient way out of the inefficient methods they haven’t removed?

Another part of dyes that bugs me is that it can look VERY different on the trim. Heirloom is a dark red dye on the main parts of armor, but is golden/orange on the trim. Pretty weird.

At the very least you could buy karma weapons/armor and use the forge to make them into random non-soulbound weapons couldn’t you?

Karma -> Legendary weapon. You need around a million karma.

Karma -> Gold is not possible, there were a few solutions, all nerfed.

I’m not interested in legendary weapons.

I use a gs/scepter+pistol in Wv3 and it’s great for group fights. I don’t want to be rushing into a large group to do those swap blurred frenzys. The confusion ray forces them to bust a dodge or take some heavy damage + confusion… which is also useful since you know what their reaction to it will be. I agree that the auto attack is in need of a buff. Either in damage or having the clones do something more useful.

That being said if I’m just running around solo I have my 1h sword equipped instead of the scepter for those random 1v1’s… and would never bring a scepter into sPvP.

^ that was a bit off topic as I was asking about gear… but anyways…

I didn’t find any of the higher dom/dualing traits to be anything i wanted. Deceptive evasion is available at 20. For WvWvW I find mantras to be a waste as you’re not going to be recharging them in the middle of combat (it would be a dps loss) and you find yourself doing long fights vs many quite often in WvWvW.

I’m running a 20/20/15/15 build (greatsword/scepter (or sword)+pistol) and mainly WvWvW. Atm I’m using a mix of Knights + Valk gear and will be upgrading to exotics. I was thinking about adding on some more damage with berserker jewelry instead of some of the Valk as exotic runes of divinity will help me keep up my toughness and hp (I like being a bit tanky).

Am I on the right track? Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated before I invest. Thanks

I understand why people get upset at DD thieves. It’s because they don’t understand the class nor how to counter it. There are videos on youtube for every class at how to counter a DD thief… heck, I regularly see thieves in these forums tell you how to couter that spec. Go and look them up and get those tatics down until you can do them effortlessly. This shouldn’t take long if you’re an experienced gamer… might take a short while if you’re not.

Yes thieves can burst hard and fast… if you let them. It’s very common that I see some one just let a thief beat on them… dear god it’s like half the players don’t think to bring some sort of anti-cc utility to counter these tactics (which are definitely not just limited to a thief). If it’s a reaction time issue, then you either need to toughen yourself up to give yourself more time or learn to react faster… or both. If I can stop them from doing this to me then you can stop them from doing it to you.

There are several classes a DD thief won’t even try to fight 1v1 because it’ll just be a guaranteed loss. This shows that they are the omni 1 shot killing imba class that I see so many try to make them out to be.

I see a DD thief as not much more than a noob killer. DD thieves are very much a one trick pony and once you learn to beat that one trick they just become easy prey. I wound up changing my thief spec and eventually re-rolled to another class and now laugh at any DD thief foolish enough to try the typical DD rubbish on me.

New players complain about thieves the most because they just don’t know how to counter it. There have been several things mentioned in this thread about what to do and what not to do vs. a thief.

If you choose to make a build and not add in any stun/immobilize breakers that’s your own fault. There was even a mesmer earlier complaining about how they couldn’t avoid a thief (wise use of blink alone shuts down a LOT of thieves). Learn as much as you can about your class, how to counter the other classes, and pay attention.

It’s very rare that I have much of an issue with these high burst damage thieves. I find the condition damage ones to be harder to counter. Just be aware and keep some sort of anti-cc ability on your support bar. You don’t even need to change from being a fellow glass cannon if you can react and counter them quickly.

Imo all the thief QQ will disappear if the rendering is fixed. Even without it being fixed I would still rather fight a good thief vs a good mesmer.

Then again I stay aware of my surroundings and have good reaction times… so I don’t have issues with avoiding that large initial burst damage which most people seem to have issues with. Good condition thieves give me a much harder time than those noobs.

Proto… there have been threads on this forum where people are complaining about their allied server attacking them and then apologies… and then the thread gets deleted Yes randoms do still attack the allied server, but then the above happens and it’s to a very small extent. I don’t even think that I’ve had to face allied servers in WvWvW yet (so far as I know). However it does go on and is talked about in here. It just shouldn’t be allowed and there should be consequences.

These shouldn’t be allowed. It’s WvWvW… not Wv 2xW. So far as I know, this isn’t how the game was intended to be played. People speaking of them publically in these forums etc. is ridiculousness. If one server can’t beat another, they shouldn’t be allowed the crutch of having another server team up with you. Instead they should be forced to improve. It’s cowardly and dishonors both of the allied servers.
