Other than what has been said… some class mechanics are pretty kittened. No phantasm if the mesmer is blind or your opponent blocks/dodges at the time of the attack makes mesmer the ONLY class where AOE/Multi hitting attacks don’t even occur due to a single blind/block/dodge.
I only call summoning a phantom an attack because that’s how the dev’s justified this… despite that making no logical sense either…
The class is also plagued with bugs which constantly pop up in addition to ones which have been around since launch… but eventually those will be fixed. I can understand how complex of a class mesmer must be to the poor bug fixers
Runes of the Centaur/Runes of the Air + Mirror. Add boon duration as desired. There goes your movement problem.
As well as there goes your choice of runes/traits… and thus diversity as well. This isn’t as much of a deal in PvE or sPvP… but in WvW…
(edited by Aberrant.6749)
The only posts here that bother me are Dogs. Why on earth do you keep comparing your elementalist to mesmer?
I have a fully decked out ele too. I think it’s completely kitten that I can stack up two minutes worth of swiftness just by running around and using a few select spells in my different attunements. Not to mention you can ride the lightning, flash, and if need be use magnetic grasp to juke someone out. Slowness debuff isnt a problem, plenty of condition removal. Eles have it better than most. As a side note, I fear no one on my ele..
Ele is the only class that is more mobile than my thief.
Stop worrying about who has the best get away. Who can run fast out of combat should not be a kitten contest.
I totally agreed… ele’s mobility needs a smack with the nerfbat. The dev’s said that immobilization should be the bane of an ele… but we all know that’s laughable with how well ele can remove conditions. At the same time it shouldn’t be too much to where they aren’t able to be one of the most moblie… just not by far the most mobile class in the game. Thieves should have a slight advantage in mobility over the other classes and it should scale down slightly for the other classes from there. ATM there is just TOO much of a gap.
I would also agree with reducing the overall number of classes that have access to permanent or near permanent speed boosts. It shouldn’t just be oh hey I have this trait or utility so I’m always faster /wave. That’s boring and not at all dynamic. It should come down to who has what off of cooldown as to who can successfully escape or not. That’s far more dynamic. Replace the permanent buffs/traits that allow classes to do this with more limited bursts of speed. As dog said earlier… it’s a boon, it isn’t something you are entitled to have <-this includes ALL classes.
Alllllll of that being said… mesmer has good mobility while in combat with staff/sword/focus/portal/blink use.
In sPvP it’s not as much of an issue as it is in WvW where you have large open areas. I really hope the dev’s start to balance WvW… for the WvW settings.
Out of combat mesmer is definitely on the same page as guardian… forced to take weapons/runes that not everyone really wants to use. On my guard I use runes of the pack on my guardian despite the fact that if this wasn’t an issue I would use something different… just like how on my mesmer I use rune of air (dear god I refuse to use kitten centaur).
(edited by Aberrant.6749)
High damage gear/traits w/ a focus…. so you can kill everything as fast as you can and move on. The focus is great for mobility/cc and the phantom is great damage vs. the brainless mobs.
It would also really help to bring/find a friend to help keep giving each other swiftness at all times and kill everything even faster.
When I’m in shatter set up I use mostly zerker with some knights and it’s pretty squishy, but I use mobility/skills as my primary defense.
If you go heavier on the passive defenses (tough/vit) you’ll obviously lose damage, it’s just a balance between the two and your own playstyle. I find that mesmer already has a decent health pool, so if I was going for more passive defense, I would go heavier on toughness than vit… but it really comes down to what works best for you.
Fancy hoodies make them money….fixing Mesmer bugs does not… :p Unfortunately
True, but how many angry players are going to buy a paid expansion when they release it if they haven’t even fixed the slew of bugs present from when the game was in beta? I certainly won’t.
Those are two separate departments. The people that make new hats aren’t the same people that fix bugs. They both have people specially qualified for their different tasks.
I do wish they had more people working on bug fixes though…

Shatter build and can flip to a decent glam without re-training (non-optimal glam though). Just needs to swap gear. Very useful in WvW.
I run a phantasm build. I use Greatsword and Sword/Pistol. Loving the new laser pierce, as I strafe a lot and it works best while moving.
I’m technically support as my phantasms grant protection/regeneration. I am ALWAYS moving in combat though. I love it, but it’s not for the light of heart. Very different from my tanky shout warrior who stands still 99% of the time.
I used to use a phant build until they bugged out izerker, made phantoms not appear on dodge/block/blind (although most I fight seem ignorant to this), and nerfed the protection from regen (3/10s seems like it would be more balanced since you can always just kill the phantom they are hugging to end it imo). All that together is a bit much imo Whenever they at least fix izerker I’ll revisit it
(edited by Aberrant.6749)
Different colors then the mesmers spells/look itself really stand out to me. Seeing an all purple creature cast more purple is overkill in my opinion.
Never enough purple.

This is why I’ve geared up my guardian… it’s good at PvE and PvP and is in a pretty stable place and the dev’s are happy with it.
Thief gets changed (nerfed) every single patch. Something viable can be trashed the next week.
Since the patch I’ve only plaid on my thief occationally. The revealed nerf hit thieves in all the wrong places. C&D spam is still fine… but anyone that cycles it (which was never the issue) got smacked hard with the nerfbat.
My mes and eng are constantly plagued with bugs.
I agree with the OP… thank god for my guardian.
(edited by Aberrant.6749)
My issue with this patch is that it did nothing to the problem (c&d chaining thieves) but nerfed everyone that uses stealth properly’s dps, heals, condition removal, might stacking, etc.
The rotation feeling odd is messed up too.
Totally feels like they shoved it in at the last second.
Thing is: Berzerker Thieves finally pay up a little in terms of survivability. And please don’t cry about the health pool. You have a medium health pool, but still medium armor.
I think the patch was not only warranted, but also necessary!
And caltrops from 15s down to 10s? Why on earth would you need them on the ground for more than 10s?You’ve been posting a lot of gloating posts since this update. Now you are also posting misinformation.
How about you stop it and realize the next class up for castration will be the mesmer.
And we ALL know just how ezmode mesmers really are.
Caltrops was fine before the patch, didn’t need any adjustment. It was strong but not overly strong. In sPvP it doesn’t cover the full area, in WvW there is a LOT of open areas. This is what was mitigating caltrops before.
Thieves also have issues with putting conditions on targets other than bleeds. This makes large stacks of bleeds easy to wipe. This was agreed upon with the dev’s in the state of the game interview when it was brought up. So what do they do in this patch? Nerf thieves ability to bleed in multiple ways -.-
Seriously… what the kitten…
IMO mesmers are in a fine place atm. They have some serious mechanical drawbacks if you know how to exploit them… mainly if you dodge/block/bilnd them when they are creating a phantom, no phantom is created… this makes them the ONLY class where aoe/multi hitting attacks don’t even occur due to a dodge/block/blind. The GS buff was nice, but izerker is still bugged and has no fix in sight.
Ele’s on the other hand need a solid smack with the nerfbat.
So… massive nerf to almost every build… some guy that wasn’t hit by the nerf says it’s fine… surprise surprise.
The nerfs kittened far too much and didn’t solve the problem it was supposed to fix. If a no stealth thief is the only viable one, then that’s pigeon holing thieves… while giving no more options to compensate. That’s obviously not at all what a good nerf should do…
Before the nerf thieves were already nearly non-existant at high level tPvP. Skilled players had no problem with thieves before the patch… so why nerf them more? Oh whiney noobs… that’s right… balance the game for the lowest level skill gameplay because they’re crying the loudest.
Dev’s catering to complainers totally makes this game seem like it should be an e-sport. Not.
(edited by Aberrant.6749)
Sure caltrops nerf sucks for condi thieves, but it was warranted.
I’m also confused at why you as a person feel that cutting 5 seconds off of the duration of caltrops was “warranted”
Enlighten me.
Main reason why is because the duration is crazy long. Mostly in pvp is it stupid strong when caping and defending but even in wvw and pve it was a tad too strong. The reason being is that it was a 15s long duration on a 30s cd that can be cast while invis and not break the invis. Made it far too easy to wreck large groups. With 10s you still maintain the utility, just the dps is nerfed and with the buff to caltrops on dodge (previously only could get 1 stack of bleeds from this, I’ve seen 3 now), it seems to have evened out.
You could get 3 before with caltrops on dodge as well. I used it many many times to speed up the death of yak’s. On a player however…. you could only get 2 if you aimed it correctly and they were dumb. The utility version was too strong in sPvP… but in WvW/PvE it really wasn’t necessary… so +1 for splitting the game apart more into PvE and PvP.
It still doesn’t make up for the less healing/cond removal/stacks of might/direct damage in any way though… they had a splinter and decided to use a hammer to try to get it out : /
lot of damage reduction in pve
Dat metal background music while doing math + ponies… HARDCORE!
(edited by Aberrant.6749)
how dare you say that the warrior was hurt with this nerf! thier banners got twice as strong, kick skill got buffed and quickness was extended for 1 sec. we got reveal and basilisk venom was nerfed! our main source of damage got nerfed! I have a main thief and a dungeon warrior with witch I recently joined spvp. I got supriced how easy this class is it’s totally overpowered in both pve (reason why I roled one for dungeons) but even more in spvp its insane, there is only competition from other warriors.
Warrior still sucks most in pvp. If you are succesful with it, your opponents are most likely not very good. To be clear, I´m talking about 1v1.
And yes, the quickness nerf hits warriors the hardest, because their most viable option, even though it was already quite bad, has lost it’s potential by half.
People use OP like it doesn’t mean anything these days.
Apart from this, thief did take a big hit this patch, most likely the biggest hit of all. I agree with PW needing a buff.
Both took hits lets not make this a who got hit harder convo. Both classes are kittened right now and need fixing.
(edited by Aberrant.6749)
This recent nerf did little to address what I see as the real problem with Theifs and whether it really was or wasn’t necessary is not something I will or can comment on.
The fact that a thief can wait for Stealth to wear off naturally, attack you and then go right back into stealth with Cloak and Dagger allows stealth to be chained endlessly. Now, granted you aren’t going to stand there and wait for them to keep attacking you but it’s like Ele bunker builds there’s nothing you can really do to take them down. And in spvp I assume you need to be able to take players down in some cases.
As a solution, I feel, a Reveal “like” debuf should be applied when coming out of stealth from Cloak and Dagger naturally. If you use a different Stealth skill while still stealthed from CaD, the debuf could then be dropped from occurring, should you let stealth wear off naturally in this case. This way stealth skills are not affected and perma invis is stopped.
Maybe someone else can explain why this single skill is not excessive or over powered…
because I don’t understand how it is not the focus of anet’s attention, in regards to Theif.
Doesn’t seem like a bad idea to me. Return the revealed to 3s and target the actual problem instead of trying to use a hammer to take out a splinter.
The original nerf, which anet though it was too heavy, WAS BETTER. I’d rather have revealed everytime I pop out of stealth than this 4 seconds revealed.
No nerf was justified. Anet caved in like most game companies do when a few noobs complain even if it was a “learn to play” issue.
So just wait. They won’t stop here. They will not stop until they basically kill the thief class. That’s what the complainers want and so far it looks like they’re getting their way little by little.
It’s sad too, because the thief is a very unique profession, one of the most unique i’ve seen in an MMO, especially with the shadow steps / stealth.
Oh, and how about that promised more mobility? lmao.
I agree that no nerf was needed. Look at the state of thieves in higher skill tPvP… they were virtually non-existant BEFORE the nerf. The massive QQ was from the lower levels of skill in PvP… which is an area you shouldn’t be caring about much as a dev looking to have your game be an e-sport anyways.
Before the nerf I had no issues fighting against thieves on my non-thief characters… was able to beat the vast majority of them unless they outskilled me. Now it’s just a joke.
But out of the two I think almost everyone would have preferred the revealed every time you exit stealth > longer revealed… which means lower dps/healing/condition removal/natural rotations messed up…
(edited by Aberrant.6749)
The problem with scepter #1 damage is it works like the GS in reverse. The closer you are the faster you attack the more damage you do… since it waits for the shots to land before shooting another. This is very weird for a ranged weapon.
The #3 wasn’t the problem… it was the #1 & #2 (and the do nothing clones). While the confusion being able to hit 5 targets is strong, it doesn’t make up for the rest of the weapon being rubbish.
That being said zomg gs auto attack + sigil of fire into a group or shooting people when they are ressing downed… SO STRONG xD
Longer revealed =’s less overall healing, less dps, less condition removal… Vs… if you leave stealth you get revealed…
I would have easily chosen the latter as it doesn’t kitten everything under the sun (which thieves were in no way compensated for).
If c&d spam was the issue they should have just tacked on causes revealed when leaving stealth for that skill in particular…
(edited by Aberrant.6749)
Agreed, should add in longer duration as they did with the utility skills
So… just nerfs and nothing to compensate for them in any way… again… wonderful…
-.-
You can also preview the dyes off of the trading post now. It really depends on the individual item as to what the colors look like on them… as well where you put the dye. The main body of your character might look one way, but the trim parts may well look another.
Test out heirloom dye to see what I mean… it can look dark red→gold→black depending on what/where it’s placed.
I’m lovin’ it…
Thief is already very predictable and will be even more so after the patch… not a good thing. Thief is hardly seen at higher sPvP… hopefully they’ll buff thief in other ways to make this not the case (but for this patch I just see nerfs inc.).
S/D isn’t usually hard to beat as P/D… just gotta dodge that root. Most S/D players I’ve come across can’t do much when the target isn’t rooted/dazed… and P/D can dodge like a madman to avoid those.
If I miss the root, I just SR back and cleanse all the conditions. lol.
But really, with S/D, you have too many cleanses at your disposal (if you’re playing right.) and the only thing that messes you up is blind on stealth.
Worst case scenario, I have to back off and reset the fight, but I find it hard to lose to such tactics.
I wait until after they use SR to sneak attack on them to prevent that, most S/D that I’ve fought don’t seem to want to even try unless the target is immobilized/dazed and will retreat to try again immediately. I haven’t fought many in S/D sPvP… nor used P/D in sPvP so this could just be that they are WvW noobs like the typical I didn’t kill them with bask venom combo so I’m running types (not calling all WvW-ers noobs).
P/D only having bleeds for damage is an issue vs. any cleansing and the dev’s seemed to agree in the last state of the game… so we’ll see if they do anything about that later on. P/D is a good easy intro to thief but obviously isn’t without its issues.
(edited by Aberrant.6749)
I generally laugh at P/D thieves on my S/D build… I’m sure it must be frustrating, but that’s their fault for playing a noob slayer build…
S/D isn’t usually hard to beat as P/D… just gotta dodge that root. Most S/D players I’ve come across can’t do much when the target isn’t rooted/dazed… and P/D can dodge like a madman to avoid those. Then pew pew ing them after their the return tele isn’t hard if you position yourself well.
Vs. D/P… that’s harder as they’ll be almost certainly be running remove conditions on stealth and can stealth at will from anywhere. This winds up being a no winner situation as I know they’ll be coming in for a backstab and can c&d off of them while they are in stealth.
Where P/D shines in WvW is yak killing. They can’t predict where you’ll be like with a mele weapon and a slow moving yak is wonderful for caltrops. I’ve had groups of 10+ unsuccessfully try to stop me from ganking a yak. It’s pretty kitten funny.
It’s good for XP, can be ok for profit (depending on what you craft), useless endgame unless you’re making a legendary (no crafted ascended gear).
GW2 spidy doesnt help at all, as it’s not realistic. No one actually buys those items. But you can still try
I disagree… Valk items you can’t get from dung’s/PvE drops… you would HAVE to buy them if you wanted those stats.
Thieves are going to have to learn to choose the right time to attack now. If you can’t deal with that play another class. I’ve never seen a game where stealth works like it does in this one. It was only a matter of time before it got nerfed. Regardless of whether thieves are op or not the ability to conintue to blink in and out of sight in combat is op. Its not fun at all for people on the business end of it probably more so then any other mechanic. Shatter/Pet spam by mesemers is probably a close second. So when you have something the vast majority of the player base hates besides the people benefitting from it you don’t have to be a rocket science to understand it was going to get changed.
Thieves and mesmers punish the players that don’t understand them the most out of all classes. This causes a lot of the newer players to think they are OP. They are both fairly well balanced though.
Thief is hardly seen at higher levels of sPvP. If anything it needs some buffs in some way to make them stronger/more competitive in this bracket. Once you understand thief more you can predict them very easily. Thieves are very one trick ponies. I (and many other players) often will cloak and dagger → stealth off of another already stealthed thief.
I actually have some disagreements with some of the mesmer’s mechanics… if you blind/block/dodge at the time of summoning an illusion the mesmer doesn’t produce anything… this makes mesmer the ONLY class where aoe/multi hitting attacks (the dev’s stated they were attacks and not summons to justify this change) that don’t even occur due to a single blind/block/dodge. That’s messed up.
About the change… meh… as long as they go through with their desires to allow thief to stay in combat longer, be the most slippery class, and more mobile than Ele… I’m fine with it. It’s just the time in between when they are trying to figure out how they’ll do that which makes me : /
P/D Condition was my first build (used it before it became the FotM) and is one of the easiest to play. Since you heal and remove conditions on Stealth, you simply continue to use your CnD and use Blinding Powder or SR for prolonged stealth while you build up your initiative.
Going 0/0/30/20/20 means you practically have to screw up on purpose to die, imo. However, good luck fighting against Guardian bunker builds. I think the P/D venom build requires far more skill than the Condition.
The main premise is – stay away from your opponent, drop caltrops, run in circles, CnD and then Sneak Attack just as the stealth wears off.
Anything with reliable consistent condition removal will stop p/d build as it’s basically just bleed damage. This was brought up in the most recent state of the game interview… so I hope something is done about that, but who knows : /
Didn’t see it on the list, but this is the P/D build that I use… not really an original one by me, just something I saw and tweaked a tiny bit.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYAQNAqYVlUmiO3ey5E+JFB3Djm0m6p4rjVXQ/hrC
First 2 major traits in shadow arts are flexible… swapping one of them for remove condition in stealth works well too. Just personal preference.
Alternatively take the 5 out of deadly arts and put it into acrobatics for vigor on heal or assassin’s reward, but I like the pois on steal (gives you something other than ONLY having bleeds) and I don’t find myself needing any more dodge/hp regen.

If you mix carrion w/ apothecary that’ll help your toughness and healing while in stealth (more survival while keeping up condition damage)
On my P/D set I use 4 apoth rest carrion and it’s aprox 18.5k hp, 2.5k armor 550 heal (exotics) I can survive more on this than I can on my balanced set up Guardian.
It helps to not just spam sneak attack right away, reposition, be unpredictable, let yourself heal while in stealth. Keep them crippled with dagger and caltrops on dodge (VERY good trait, just gotta learn to aim it a little bit). When I C&D I’ll dodge though them to drop caltrops (might + cripple) if I have good enough energy. If they get in close use shadow strike until you want them in close to C&D.

Thieves are in a great place atm, especially compared to the issues some other classes still have. There is no “hate” at all for our class, at least from the Devs. The stealth nerfs will be GOOD for our profession as a whole as it will drive out some of the bads and spread that population among the other classes a bit. I’m tired of all thieves being lumped into the same group of “ezmode noobs”, we now get a patch that will “separate the men form the boys”. It’s high time for the class to be respectable.
But when you compare the representation at high end sPvP/PvE it’s pretty bad… the class obviously needs some love in some areas.
Anyone know if we’ll still keep our old kill count? Will those help us with this new patch in any way? Almost 14k kills… would hate for it to get wiped…
Fix culling revisit stealth nerf when you increase thief mobility.
That’s what I recommend
I would agree with this… do things in steps vs all at once. The team seem to disagree though… large buffs/nerfs are far too common
Wonder if they’ll fix the lag on skills (or not being able to use any what so ever) along with the culling…
Scepter 1 needs a faster moving projectile
Sword 3 needs to be able to actually hit a moving target
Nod Nod Agreed.
Also… Ring of Warding still needs a fix. No dodges through this, no falling out of the circle when knocked down. Teleports/stability to get out are fine.
Guard needs a viable condition build.
The staying power sounded like something in the future they are working on… same with making thieves more slippery.
I am hopeful but not expectant about this patch tweaking thief and not just being nerfs.
Why not just make them into a currency that we can spend…
Or tiered entry levels… like you need X points to have access to item Y (which can then have a karma/gold cost itself).
Either way this would be a more inclusive way to do this while still rewarding people for the achievements.
Send in those SS’s of the person draining resources to a-net customer service. Actions like that can cause them to ban the account.
You’re in a PvP zone… they are holding a point in PvP. They allow their team to gain siege while denying it to your team. I see nothing wrong with this.
Also… you don’t need to kill them to get through, you can use the stealth rooms.
I do enjoy killing JP campers though… they tend to be bad at PvP.
it seems that those people accused of exploiting guesting system has a complete set of information of event time on every server…
if they are that resourceful, perhaps you should be the same…..
Seems like you’re late to the party, here you go: http://guildwarstemple.com/dragontimer/
Players end up in overflow when they show up for events now because the combination of “dragon timer and guaranteed rares and guesting” has simply led to a huge increase in participation. It’s not because of one of those things, it’s all of them together.
Btw… ofc I know about the timers :P
Seems like you’re not reading the threads you’re posting in
I also know many other things which I don’t use because I feel they are exploits (such as Class bugs, map/structure issues etc. etc.). Not to mention there are better ways of getting rares than event farming…
(edited by Aberrant.6749)
Great match this week so far ^^
Seems like FA really doesn’t want to repeat the loss they had last week and are pushing hard for 2nd place. Made for some wonderful fights. Keep it up everyone on both sides
I for one am scared for the impending ban for abusing guesting.
Along with pretty much +50% of the active population!
I wouldn’t worry much. Even if they do, they would only do it for the top abusers… the ones who obviously took advantage of the situation. That’s been their typical stance on such things. So unless you used massive numbers of alts all the time you should be fine if they do decide to do something (still unknown).
Oh, and as far as the OP, while I despise people who use the guesting system to abuse the guaranteed rares and get multiple chests on ALTs, I do not believe they should be punished for it. They are simply using the system ANet put in place. I’m glad they are fixing the debacle they caused.
Now, if people were able to guest to another server and get another chest on ONE character, this would be an exploit and I say let the ban hammer drop.
They’ve banned people for taking advantage of things they’ve put in place for one reason which were used for another in the past. Guesting = meant to help you play with friends, not use tons of alts to quickly get more ecto’s. By using the guesting to farm the events you are circumventing the timers put on these events. That gives the players doing this an advantage over the ones who didn’t.
I think people who call people exploiters who are not exploiters should be banned. It’s the only sensible solution.
Lol-ed :P
(edited by Aberrant.6749)
You would need 2 crafts to craft a legendary. Idk if JC is required for any… but that would be the only use for it that I can think of post-ascended other than for the XP : /
ATM in this game you should always use berserker gear. Loot is based on damage and I have read that magic find gear is worthless and I tend to agree with that. Just use berserker gear and magic find food.
That isn’t the best idea for high fractals or PvP… for easy mode dung’s and open world PvE yes though ^^
This game is very alt unfriendsy.
I reccomend you just run a main with maybe a single other char and wait for Anet to hopefully make it more alt friendly.
Not really.
If your only definition of alt-friendly is “getting ascended gear in a timely fashion” then I suppose I would agree with you.
But since getting ascended gear on all characters isn’t really all that important…
It’s not hard to gear out all characters in exotics, and get a few of them into ascended every few months.
What’s the hurry really? On a tight schedule? If you WvW it’s important to have competitive gear. 10% stat difference and up to 20% performance difference is fairly large. Easily make the difference between killing and dying.
For PvE… doesn’t matter… but a decent group can beat the vast majority of PvE in rares without much issue… so I don’t really include that in my thoughts about this subject.
I wouldn’t mind ascended if there were just more ways of obtaining it. I don’t like fractals… so I’m limited to the laurels which is very slow.
On top of that my build on any character could easily get nerfed. I can’t do anything with the old ascended gear… so I would have to start all over on whichever gets nerfed whenever. The more alts, the higher the chances of a nerf to one of them.
In WvW how often are fights fair?
And who cares if they’re fair.
It’s designed to be unbalanced.
WvW isn’t about 1v1 anyways. If it’s important enough to you, use your character that’s in ascended gear in WvW until you get your other characters decked out?
You’re basing your argument on “maybe my character will get nerfed, so make ascended gear easy to acquire so I can pretend to be balanced on an alt character in an unbalanced gamemode”With the imbalances wouldn’t it behoove you to at least be on par with your opponents gear wise? My alts can’t be because of how one can currently obtain ascended gear. That makes me want to roll fewer alts. Sorry if you don’t like WvW… but that’s the only reason many people play still this game. I sPvP as well btw ^^
So put your ascended gear on the character you WvW with mostly?
This sounds like a ‘you’ problem. So your argument against my thoughts about how this game discourages people to have alts… is that I shouldn’t want to be able to be as competitive with alts in WvW? Wat?
You mostly WvW, WvW is important to you, you claim to need to be ‘on par’ with other people in WvW for ‘balance’ reasons…
And you go and put ascended trinkets on characters you don’t WvW with and you complain about your alts not having ascended gear for WvW.What???
Huh? Who said I don’t WvW with alts? I would just like those alts to be able to have the same ascended gear as my main… ascended discourages me from making more alts or using the ones that don’t currently have the gear. I don’t see where you’re getting any of this and I’m inclined to agree with Rukia… so good day sir ^^

So your argument against my thoughts about how this game discourages people to have alts… is that I shouldn’t care that I’m not able to be as competitive with alts in WvW and should just stick with 1 character? Wat? You just proved my point…

It’s not hard to gear out all characters in exotics, and get a few of them into ascended every few months.

it seems that those people accused of exploiting guesting system has a complete set of information of event time on every server…
if they are that resourceful, perhaps you should be the same…..
Nah there are better ways of getting ecto’s/gold without risking the wrath of a-net lol. I can’t just push 1 then afk for those though… xD
Just because other people are doing it also doesn’t mean it’s OK to do it. That’s not solid logic.
Btw… ofc I know about the timers :P

I’m fairly certain that they won’t do anything to anyone whose done it. IMO it’s not abuse or exploiting. You could do all of these events on your alts on your home server and get all your chests, or save time by server jumping. The end result is the same. They haven’t gained any advantage over anyone else, they won’t have any more chests than me (assuming same # of alts). All they did was save time.
Do I agree with it, and would I do it? Nope. Still doesn’t make what they’re doing any sort of abuse or deserving of a ban in my eyes.
edit to add a bit more!
On your comparison to the Ori node bans early on.
Ori nodes were meant to be mined once per character(or is it account… I only have 1 80 lol) per spawn. It’s clear how bypassing that can be considered an exploit. But these chests were meant to be limited to 1 chest per character. They’re not bypassing this. They’re still restricted to it so I just don’t see how it’s an exploit.
Time is also money :P The faster you can do one thing then the faster you can move on to do another which would add to your income. Doing that can be seen as giving an unfair advantage over other players who do not use the guesting in this way.
Depending on the number of alts they may not have enough time to get them all done with the normal respawn rates… especially given their own RL schedules… thus the end result is they are able to obtain more ectos.
That’s why I was thinking only people that did it heavily could be considered to have exploited guesting.
The ori stuffs are also on a timer and they could have moved their character around and farmed, but instead took a short cut to get a lot quickly. It’s a longer timer on each node and there are some differences (I agree), but I find the actions of the players to be similar enough to warrant comparison.
