Assuming the tooltip is correct, then Protected Mantras is only during channeling. Although, that still cranks your defense up a good deal, at that time. As for Blurred Signets, I’d use that with Signets that apply an additional effect to the target … it’s a workable “Oh Crap!” switch.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
It transferred to other forum sections. I just saw it mentioned in a thread over in GW2 Discussion not to long ago. Now, besides that obvious hookup, I’d like Fans. Yesterday.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
This is the best thing about the Mesmer class. Every freaking one of us posting here has a different setup that clearly works for ‘em. Me, I’m paranoid … I like having any potential defense option, just in case crap goes south. Others can go full GC and excel.
Also, I bleeding wish Blurred Frenzy was counted as Distortion. With how often I slot Masterful Reflection … oh, the fun

Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Simple. Even with Mesmer evasion/mitigation, there are darned well times when one is:
- out of defensive cooldowns
- out of endurance
Also, once you’ve fought a few GC Killshot Warriors or BS Thieves, you get downright finicky about having decent Armour. Especially in Zerg vs Zerg combat.

My Condition spec changes. I was originally 0/20/20/0/30, but have messed about with multiple options (0/25/25/0/20, 0/30/20/0/20, 0/15/25/0/30, rarely sets like 0/0/30/10/30 or 0/0/25/15/30 … those last 2 can work, but you lose a decent chunk of Bleeds).
I’m currently having a messload of fun with a 0/20/30/0/20 Chaotic Interruption spread and Staff/ScepFocus.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I’ve kept full Rabid for most of the time I’ve run Mesmer. Also run a Knight/Soldier Armour for additional tankiness, and a Cleric/Shaman/Apothecary for Mantra-healspam experiments. Rabid Trinkets, until I manage to get the rest of my darn Ascendeds.
(Planning one spread full Rabid, and a Divinity for swapouts.)
Carrion Weapons. (Was Rampager, but figured the extra Vitality helps vs. Condition spammers)
Runes:
Perplexity for the Rabid Armour, Melandru for healer, Air for the “tanky” set.

You know … now I’m amused. Post a time (EST) on this one, I’d like to see how you do versus folks like Osicat or Pyroatheist. Hell, I may even try you on. (Although I don’t claim to be some kinda leet PVPer – I’m mainly WvW-based)

Funny. I just fought an Anvil Rock Mesmer earlier. I was running condi/chaotic interruption spec: staff/scepter/focus, blink as a utility, and both Manipulations
Traits. I managed to keep up just fine, tbh. Although, I’ll admit our fight came down to both of us in Downed Mode, and me getting that last Mind Blast just in time.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I have to disagree. That current Trait outta Dueling can be very useful. Now, has anyone tested it to see if it applies just to the channel, or any “casting” of a Mantra?
If it’s the second, that makes a Mantra support/spamhealer build just that bit more tanky, and that’s a good offset to how Mantras work. Not to mention, that Blurred Signets + Masterful Reflection and Illusionary Persona allows for a crapton of Reflection.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I would assume -since many players are in that boat- that it’d be based from character age.

Advent, Faolain is dead.
True, but I wasn’t thinking of her personally. Who’s this new Sylvari that showed up at the opening ceremony? Possibly she’s also of the Court.
I’d be willing to bet on it. Considering that PC Sylvari are rather roped into the “cooperate and be heroic, to kick Dragon Behind” role. Which leaves the “why?”
My guess’d be:
- More destabilization will involve the Pale Tree’s Sylvari
- The pain and bloodshed there furthers the Court’s goal to add more “negative” experiences to the Dream
- Profit.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
As far as VOLKON’s theory of Nightmare Court involvement, I would say one thing.
Namely, that (I think) Faolain is a Mesmer, herself. If I’m right, there’s a definite possibility of the Court being behind at least some of the Living Story’s villainy, past or present. After all, it’d be a simple enough matter for a skilled Mesmer to .. “impersonate” a member of the Flame Legion or Dredge, and get a chunk of the Flame and Frost bit rolling.
Another idea, and one I mentioned in a thread about Jennah being “Disturbing”:
She -IIRC- did contact Kralk’s mind. Mindfragged, much? She could be going mad/corrupt, and doing the wrong crap for reasons she believes to be “right.”
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Alright, we’ve all heard about it being rather hard to increase/modify Borderlands map sizes due to “technical limitations.” What I’d like to know, in this matter, is simple.
Namely, is the major problem:
- Having to account not only for map size in general, but the extra rendering of all potential combatants?
- Something about how the map textures are coded in, directly?
- A completely unrelated technical concern?
I ask this, due to the fact that we regularly see new “maps” or dungeons coded in for PvE/PvP, but -as many WvWers have mentioned- our BL maps consist of EB and three
“Identical Triplet” Borderlands.

Heh. Maybe there’s a “middle of the road” option. Something like:
- Every 50th or 100th Rank is Account Bound.
- Within that range, one can still have alts at various “sub-”Ranks
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Hmmm … idea for ye. IIRC, Jennah did touch Kralk’s mind. It could be possible that she … “inherited” some of his nature by doing so. Being only human, it’s twisting her desires around, and in her mind, she’s doing what is “right.”

Maybe if they gather up too much waste inside; they trigger a emesis event, and a forceful expulsion of the contents of their stomach?
I’d argue they need to vent waste somehow.
By making more oxygen?
Funny would be if the pollen functions as their “waste,” solid-wise. “Aw, look at the Sylvari and that cool pollen of theirs! Squee!” (Meanwhile, said Sylvari just took a fat dump on your head…)
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
It’s arguably possible that Sylvari might age more like trees than animals. The internal organs are -whilst serving similar functions to those of an “animal” race- more analogue than direct copy. The Tree’s idea of how “people” function. However, we need to also account for the fact that Sylvari are “born” in a format that is “adult,” by the standards of any other race. In addition, we have the known fact that none of the Firstborn appear to have aged at all, in twenty-five years. Were I to plant a sapling now, it will visibly change within that period of time.
As for their initial creation, we know that Sylvari awaken -post Dream- from pods. With that in mind, the Tree most likely uses part of “her” material to grow their bodies.
Consider a Sylvari, then, to be a walking “fruit” of the Tree, herself. At least this seems to be the logical assumption, given lore.

Depends, honestly. You’d probably have say -“bark”- interlaced with vines at the “joints” – after all, as Ezekiel and SinerAthin mention, pure bark would be rather inflexible. OOTH, I’m surprised the ArtDevs never considered the anatomy to work somewhat like a combined endoskeleton (hardwood, vines as ligaments) and exoskeleton (reinforced vine-weave/bark). But, let’s be honest here. Fantasy world anatomy will always be … strange.

I wouldn’t say it’s next to impossible, Blude. After all, we now have random BL/colour access. Not to mention, as for fun: do you really think us(FC)/your guys(ET)/AR wouldn’t be hella fun?
As for the OP’s question: Another of the EU ones that I know sticks with English (since my last Guild swapped over recently …) is Ruins of Surmia. In the end, though, you’re going to be best with whatever server fits your planned playstyle. Also keep in mind, that if you’re planning WvW as a major time-eater, it’s arguable you may wish to keep away from NA Tier 1. A lot of complaints have been made, RE: zerg/skill lag, queue times.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Gotta agree with Aristio here. A 30 Explosives Grenade-Engi is probably the closest thing to a God as for AoE. Gets even scarier if/when you add in HGH. Massive AoE at 1500 units range. Not that I’m complaining, mind you – Engi puts in their Trait-taxes heavy, for that kinda power.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
The hilarity comes from realizing that the very first incarnation of the rune wasn’t a hugely embarrassing error on the rune designer’s part.
Checks and balances, my friends.
Think about it.
More like: that’s one programmer who didn’t get a bonus this month. “Holy festering KITTEN, George … you didn’t tell us the new runes did THAT!”
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I’d have to say:
1 Mesmer (heavy Stealth or Interrupt spec)
1 Thief (Glassy D/D + SB)
1 AH Bunker Guard
1 Grenadier Engi or Condimancer
1 Staff Ele
You will have: A plethora of Fields and ways to blast ’em, Stealth out the wazoo, massive CC/Boons (Yay for AoE Stability!), Insane Condi Damage. Let alone enough Condi-cleansing, heals and Swiftness to roll through kitten near anything.

Is it me, DR … or did you lot gain a few more Guilds recently? Ah, well. Guess we’ve all got to kill one another.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Allow me to apologize in advance, this is going to be a long one …
Do you realize that WvW will NEVER pay the bills? They have to go with SPvP, or PvE, but that’s it. PvE brings in cash, and SPvP might have a chance at an esport (I don’t think GW2 is anywhere close to remotely being close to ready, but that’s a different discussion). WvW brings almost nothing to the sustainability of the game.
I’d have to disagree with your first point. I personally know quite a few folks who bought Gems to get their Commander tags. Looking at recent Gem -> Gold rates, that’s a good $50, let alone if they did this earlier. By the same token, I also know a few heavy WvWers who admit to having TP’d their Precursors. Imagine how much that ran, if they went partially Gems for it.
Ask yourself this, how many people do you know in WvW that have spent 50$ or up on the game post release? If you’re wvw friends are like mine your answer will be 1/2. While I’ve spent over 200$ on the game, and most of my friends that PvE put in 30$ or so a month towards the game. Maybe it’s just my experience, but PvE players seem to put their money into the game, while WvW players don’t. I’m fairly certain Anet has noticed this too, and while they aren’t entirely ignoring WvW they are going with their money makers.
Definitely just your experience, on that. Keep me amused, ANet, and I have zero issue floating you lot some spare cash. Not to mention, if this game is truly based around the “casual” gamer, do realize that many of them are more than happy to pay to get something they deem necessary or just interesting, no?
Ah, this again.
ArenaNet doesn’t have ANY money, since they are fully owned by NCSoft. People also seems to ignore that the only reason we have GW2 is because of NCSofts other games (Aion, Lineage, Lineage 2 and City of Heroes) made enough money to finance the development of the game.
But for some reason people refuse to accept that NCSoft want to earn those money back.GW2 is most likely their most successful game right now, so of course they will spend quite a bit of their money on it (the fact that they are constantly hiring people for different positions in ArenaNet should be a rather major hint).
Do you really think that all those 2-week content are produced without any kind of cost?you realize you pretty much proved my point here? that they make one game to fund the next one, then that one to fund the one after that. with that cycle, they don’t need to worry about the longevity of any of them. they just need to be able to squeeze as much money out of the customers as they can until the next game in the cycle launches. at that point, who cares what happens to the previous games? they served their purpose already. and right now, guild wars 2 is serving its purpose as well, to fund wildstar. just like CoH served its purpose, and look at how that turned out.
Now, as for this situation. I won’t say anyone is “wrong” here. I will say, however, that it could be far worse. I will in fact say that -even with as troublesome as some of ANet’s decisions are- they are still parsecs ahead of, say, Perfect World Entertainment.
You want to talk about a company that milks MMO “X” to build MMO “Y”, look at how long it takes for a reasonable amount of bug-polish and content upgrades in one of their games. All the while, they’re pushing out their next creation …
In the end, honestly: I would argue that PvE is less the enemy/destroyer of WvW than PvP. Mainly due to the fact of how many of the nerfs in this game come into play because someone PvPwise had an issue with a class ability, or a class in specific.
With that in mind, the logical order for game-mode buffs should be more spec’d based on the percentage of player population involved in that mode. IIRC, that order
should honestly be: PvE > WvW >PvP. Yes, I realize that ANet’s got a dream of making GW2 the next big Esport, but look at the numbers here. /shrug
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Problem there is:
- You leave
- FC has -at the very least- one less commander/serious WvWer. This presumes that you leave alone. Usually, one leaves, their entire squad (or a majority thereof) goes as well.
- This further tanks FC’s WvW population, and exacerbates the dreaded “numbers issue.”
- Others outside of your Guild/clique decide to follow suit.
- Repeat #’s 3-4 ad infinitum.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Stealth buff, eh? Surprising … that doesn’t happen much.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
My issue is that it was a double nerf. The swap from Invuln → Evade, and the increase in C/D. Either would have been a “nerf,” so why rub salt in a wound?
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
Definitely Thief. They fix the holes in our Stealth game, and can use their speed to keep the enemy busy long enough to eat Butterfly.
Another fun one is Guardian. All of those buffs, and their AoE Stability tricks also help a Mesmer out.
