DPS meter really?

Regardless, it’s still illegal in GW2 to use DPS meters to track other peoples’ DPS.

Nope. It is legal. Here is the link https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/66m13h/anet_this_really_should_be_part_of_the_game/dgjwapj/

That’s really disappointing to read. That allows exploitation of other players, it isn’t right. I don’t think other players—especially guildless ones—will stay long if this continues. I can understand personal DPS meters, but ones tracking other players? No, to me, that’s wrong, even if Anet has said “it’s okay now.”

I’m disturbed the devs haven’t taken notice of this thread. I don’t think Anet doesn’t care, it’s just there would have to be an investigation with the report. (I’d recommend taking screenshots of these people talking about your DPS, that would make it a little more obvious.) It could take awhile.

Regardless, it’s still illegal in GW2 to use DPS meters to track other peoples’ DPS. It’s also illegal to use third-party programs to see other peoples’ equipment. This isn’t something to take lightly.

First I suggested a whiley ago that namign mount, before i heard its already possible, as part of “legendary mounts”, but then i thoiught, namign shouldnt be exlusive for just legendary mount,s when it can simpyl work like ranger pet naming, which works for all pets too, so no needcto make it anyhow different for mounts.

“Okay, time to give your horse a na—hey, wait, isn’t that the legendary horse Epona? You can’t rename a legendary horse! I’m pretty sure there’s a law about that.” – Every Stable Registrar in Breath of the Wild when you register Epona.

Sorry, that part of your post made me think of that.

Yes, people are using DPS meters now.. no ArenaNet has not done anything about it. I’ve also heard there are ways to see other peoples gear and builds, presumably by examining the game’s memory—this is illegal, but such programs are difficult for ArenaNet to detect without something like Blizzard’s Warden.

There’s also some DPS meters that monitor the screen and thus are completely legal, and ANet wouldn’t do anything about those anyway.

You serious?? People HAVE these programs?? That’s not right at all!

Ugh…

I thought tracking your own DPS was fine using some programs, but… other players tracking your DPS? That seems fishy.

Also, those people are absolute jerks for kicking you. I wouldn’t give up on fractals, though, very good loot. You just need to find the right group in LFG. Or find a guild even that doesn’t care if you’re 50 AR under because they are willing to carry you so you can get that AR.

Why no elite spec testing I'm PvE?

I see where you all want to go and I get why you are disapponted. I wanted to play the new elites with the new story, just like hot betas. The thing is that they announced it as a demo, not as a beta. So I never got my hopes high on that and I’m ok with the waiting, its not like its going to make me waste my money. I dont use all of hot elites and I would gladly pay for the game again. Anyway, I’m going to say this again, if you want to test whichever the elite you want, you can try them next weekend without going unto a pvp match and/or getting into a zerg fest in wvw. It wont be pve, but youll sure get a taste of the new styles. I dont think it’ll be necessário to pay with currency to unlock traits and utilities, it males no sense, I think they’ll be all unlocked with new demo characters that will be wiped afete. Thats why I see no point in complaining over this. Another thing I was thinking of is that we dont use all of our hero points we get in map completion, so there are some sparing. I wonder how much more we’ll have to farm for them to complete the new elites (considering they do it in the HoT way -10ish pts for each trait/utility).
About messing up elites, people are never happy with what they have. Players still complain about core classes, its not one weekend test that will make them happy, balance updates are yet to come.

The spec I want to play; those characters have hardly any spare hero points. My eles. I main a thief and as I said, she has 160+ HP, I’m not specing deadeye because it’s not my playstyle, nor does it “feel” like my character and how I designed her. The fact that my eles are more alt characters makes this more painful. I now have to take a character, who hasn’t even gone through the PS and LS2 and HoT and LS3 to PoF? Not to mention, there would be a lot of Hero Point farming before I could even enjoy the Weaver.

I want to play with the Weaver first to see if I really enjoy it and not waste time farming HPs only to discover the spec isn’t as fun as I thought. The test golems in the PvP lobby will not give me a good idea of the spec and I’m not touching WvW. I know that’s a personal choice, but with no PvE option being given I feel limited. Both by my choice and by Anet’s choice to limit the Elite Specs to PvP playstyles next week.

Also, I’m already bored of the weekend beta. I feel like I’ve seen everything I need to see and I’m not impressed. Mounts are fun, but everything feels… dull, dead, not alive. It’s not exciting me. It would be much better if I could actually play the elite specs.

If this post doesn’t help you understand my frustration and disappointment, I don’t know what will. I doubt Anet will change this weekend to allow Elite Specs to be tested, so that’s something I have to live with. Regardless, it doesn’t lower my frustration and disappointment any further.

Has Anet Remembered the Casuals?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AegisRunestone.8672

AegisRunestone.8672

Most of the post in this, and similar threads, fall into 2 basic categories:
- I like something so it is GOOD
- if you do not like it then you are BAD player

It’s sad that this is the case for these threads, but, the OP did title the thread “Has Anet Remembered the Casuals?”

His definition of casual vs. others’ definition of casual clash heavily. I’m a casual player. I play when I can, and if I have another game I want to play, I’ll play it instead. I’ve done fractals… and one raid—only to unlock the raid masteries—I don’t plan on doing anymore raids.

It’s fine if you don’t like HoT or its content. Honestly, I loved HoT (save TD, though it’s growing on me a little), and I loved playing it. I will be honest and say I struggled with learning the masteries for gliding and the others to make the areas more enjoyable. But I was patient, and my patience paid off and now the HoT maps are awesome.

Again, it’s fine you (the OP) don’t like HoT, you don’t have to play it. The issue here is your definition of a casual player clashes heavily with what most people feel. Raids, and Legendaries are the Hardcore player stuff in GW2. Everything else in the game, IMO, is casual.

Why no elite spec testing I'm PvE?

AegisRunestone.8672

There is so much in this expansion other than elite specs that is really sad to see you guys talking about how useless this is if it doesnt include elites ????

I never said it was useless. I think it’s silly to call this demo weekend useless. We’re exploring some of the maps and playing with the raptor mounts.

I did see the stream, and I was still hoping to play the elite specs in a PvE area, as I’ve stated many many times, I have no interest in WvW or PvP.

So, I feel like I’m limited to waiting until the expansion comes out and farm hero points for my elementalists that don’t have a lot just so I can TRY the Weaver. While I main a thief, deadeye does not interest me at all. My thief is a classic assassin-hard-to-catch type who uses daggers as her way of the kill. Sniping is not her thing.

Can you understand my frustration now? I want to try the Weaver at max spec, and I do not want to play WvW and PvP to do it. We should be allowed to test the specs wherever. If Anet changed it so that next week we could test the elite specs in ALL modes (but not have Elona explorable, nor mounts), then I’d be fine with that.

Why no elite spec testing I'm PvE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AegisRunestone.8672

I kinda agree. I’m finding myself playing my regular characters more. The raptors are fun, but… I really wanted to play with the Weaver in a safe PvE area. And no, the test golem in the PvP lobby wouldn’t make me appreciate the spec.

I don’t like WvW, and I rarely do PvP… if at all. I’m very disappointed we don’t get to play with the elite specs this week.

Though, I could understand if they made the elite specs playable NEXT week in PvE, WvW, and PvP.

However, I wouldn’t go so far as to say the beta weekend is useless. The purpose of this weekend is to explore a little of Elona and have fun with the mounts. But… I’d still liked to have played with the elite specs.

Sure. Feel free to give me a ref.
Will be a tad slow because work tho. Sorry about that. (On my way to work right now, please save meeeee)

Oh gosh, I know that feeling about work. x.x; All too well.

But sweet, thank you!

Here is Vini. She’s… a very odd asura. She’s also more toward the “sexy” side on the asura “cute” spectrum. If you need a better understanding of what I mean, you can read a bit of “The Assassin of Rata Sum” story in my sig. :P

Given that, she’s still a genius since asura society finds brains more attractive than physical appearance; however, I felt there needs to a visual attraction also for relationships to spawn.

Hence, Vini (unfortunately, not shown in the refs because, ya know, GW2 models) is attractive. :p She also is very expert at being a thief, a little later, an assassin.

The refs show her hooded and unhooded as well as on the field (and yes, the mini red panda will show up in the story at some point and become her cute little pet.)

Again, thank you! I’m a fairly patient person, so don’t worry about rushing it. Take your time.

I’ve always played a thief, so deadeye but I’m not crazy about it to be honest. the stuff I really like about the thief isn’t part of the deadeye. I like being stealthy, agile, a trickster, deadeye is pretty the contrary to these. a sniper stands still, hundreds of meters away from its victim for the lucky shot.

I main a thief/daredevil, too. And your reasons are pretty much why I have zero interest in the Deadeye. I hope they make a true Assassin Elite Spec in the future.

Anyway, I voted Weaver because: Fiery lightning.

Um… can someone, a dev or mod, clarify the minimum space requirements? It says 50 GB. Is that for all the current content?

Right now, GW2 is about 29.4 GB for its GW2.dat file (and I have HoT). I only have about 32 GB of space left on my computer… Do I actually need 50 more GB or is the 50 GB including at least the core game?

That is an excellent question. I’ll check for you.

And the answer is, the 50 GB is for everything, not in addition to what’s already in use. Thanks for asking — it’s worth knowing in case others wonder about it.

Crap… I don’t want to uninstall 50% of my other games. Can’t afford a larger SSD yet.

Defrag! <— meant as a joke.

Since I started PC gaming in the 80s, I totally understand what you’re saying. (My first hard drive was 40 MB, and that was considered well above average!) Maybe get an inexpensive external storage device and move a few things there?? Best of luck!

My family’s first hard drive had… like 12 MB on it. We were like “how are we EVER going to fill that?” XD

And sorry, I misread. Actually, I DO have the space for PoF. Especially since I just uninstalled a game I haven’t played… at all since I got it. I have 48 GB open.

It’s kinda moot, though, I’m not getting PoF until I have a source of income, and well, if I want a 500 GB Samsung SSD (I currently have their 250 GB one)… that will require a source of income as well. :p

I play GW2 from a portable HDD via USB3 cable when I travel. Never an issue since thru-put. So there’s that too

But is it as fast as an SSD? (Because I do have a good External Hard Drive I could put GW2 on)

No issues but running a GTX 4GB video iCore 7 32 GB memory so no…no issues. can’t compare to SSD because I never had one. I am sure though would be a little faster.

Okay, question: if I installed GW2 onto my external hard drive, would the screenshots still go to the (User)/Documents/Guild Wars 2/Screens folder?

Dude, did you notice that PoF’s minimum specs are higher than HoT’s?

I’m playing on a 2011 decent gaming laptop, but I do not have a source of income, and the chances of me getting a decent computer in the future are slim.

I feel like Anet is already going the way of Blizzard; making it impossible for older machines to run their games as expacs are released.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to run PoF at hopefully, the same settings I currently I have on GW2. Otherwise, I could be out of game for a very long time.

I second this concern. I am not in the market where I can afford a new PC and watching everyone talk about increased specifications bothers me. I guess you can get the expansion pack but hang around core Tyria until you can update your hardware. Who wants to do that though?

At the end of the day, it is what it is. It would still be nice to be able to play the new expansion content on at least lowest of settings until I am able to trade up for something better to run the game on.

We do have that beta weekend! Maybe that will show us how our computers can run PoF?

It’ll be to cover themselves. as I recall base was 20, HoT 35 and PoF 50.

What do you mean “cover” themselves?

That’s odd, I have HoT, and I’ve checked all my GW2 stuff, and it basically maxes out to ~30 GB in space on my computer. O_o

So, I’ve had friends play GW2 with controllers (gamepads) before and I tried it myself. It’s a lot of fun unless you need to use an AoE attack which you place. For classes like Warrior, it changes the entire feel of the game and makes it feel more action-based.

The Steam Controller has its track-wheel, which can behave like a mouse (sorta). This would make it possible to play an Elementalist, for example, using a controller.

I do know the Steam Controller takes a lot of “getting used to” and it can be difficult to work with. But I want to know:

1) Does anyone use a Steam Controller for playing GW2?
2) If so, how do you like it, and how does it make the game feel?

Most games these days have an option to disable the Windows Key so it doesn’t screw over your game. Thus, it’s not an unreasonable request.

For now, one thing you can do (if you don’t use the Autohotkey option above) is use Windowed Fullscreen. That way if you accidentally click the Windows key, you just click back onto GW2 and you’re back in!

I’m very much for your suggestion, though, LightAngel.

What about posting links on one’s tumblr page? That’s what I do. It’s too much hassle to put an entire chapter on one post, not to mention I have to re-format everything, so I just link the story itself. Much easier.

Community Showcase Live -- June 22nd

Gaile, I watched the showcase, I need to say a few things.

First, I’m sorry for being so harsh.
Second, I really appreciate the call-out you made to us fan story writers.

I’m going to submit my fan story and its side short story to tumblr again, I just have a question: I don’t see the “GW2 Fan Submission” tag under the tag section to check. How do I tag my story?

Edit: I just re-read the submission thingie. I don’t have a tumblr page—I used to, but I left. Would having a tumblr page increase my chances of it showing up on the Guild Wars 2 tumblr page?

Community Showcase Live -- June 22nd

As much as I appreciate these live showcases, I’m also a little unhappy. Back when the creative creations were shown on the front page, I had a chance of showing off my writing as long as it was a short story (you said that yourself, Gaile, to me).

Then, I finished one during last Wintersday, but since the showcase went live, there’s no place for any writing at all. This is extremely disappointing and it’s unfair to those of us who have no drawing skill, but have excellent writing skills.

I recommend some sort of change in how the Community Showcases are done so that writers are not left out. My only idea is: have the live showcase, but then also post them on the front page as well, except including chosen written works.

Sadly, I know, even if you do change this, my short story won’t be there because it’s months old.

Congratulations, though, to all the artists who get chosen for the showcase.’

I apologize ahead of time for sounding so bitter, BTW. But I feel like people who have great talent are being unfairly kicked out of any opportunity of being noticed because they write, cannot draw, cannot create music, etc.

I submitted! I’d love a map.

Also, anyone who did not post this: “Custom 3D Player Character Statues. PLEASE” for "Other’ on question 4 is wrong. … :P

Have you… played ANY of Izuna’s games? Also, I have a D/D daredevil already. Giving Izuna an off-hand dagger would give her Dancing Dagger and Cloak and Dagger. I want her to be different from my asura daredevil. :P

But thank you! I worked hard on her.

And yes, I see what you mean, but… mesmers shoot beams from their swords; Izuna uses her swords to slice people with. :P

I’m starting to write again for the first time in months. I’m happy. I’m not working on this story at the moment because I have another fan story that I have to finish (two chapters and an epilogue and then it’s done), and then I’ll focus on this one alongside my novel.

Stay on this thread. It’s not wanted that people make multiple threads on the same subject, and if you’re logged into the forum it takes you to the last post you read anyway.

All right then!

Here’s what I used:
Head: Determination Headband (hidden because hairstyle hides it).
Shoulders: Shoulder Scarf
Chest: Rawhide
Gloves: Rawhide
Pants: Rogue Pants
Feet: Rubicon Boots

Sword: Ceremonial Sabre (looks like a katana to me)
Pistol: Bronze/Iron Pistol (don’t remember which, but it looks more like Izuna’s pistol)

I have no idea what to use for her secondary weapons (thinking P/D or D/P).

I also did my best for a short, but not too short hairstyle, and I made her eye height (?) and iris size as wide as possible. So, how did I do?

Now, here’s a question, should I make a new thread for the screenshots? I don’t want people to have to scroll all the way down here.

Alone from the pictures you should know that Thief is here the complete wrong decision, because that character wields a greatsword (Nodachi/Daikatana) (2handed samurai sword) and the best weapon skin that comes very very close to this ist the gemstore skin from marjory’s sisters sword. If you want to use the greatsword, you have to take Ranger, Warrior, Guardian or Mesmer.
In that case, because you said, Izuna uses also Magic, would be the best option to take Mesmer and combine this with the outfit as outfits aren’t restricted to class categories

The most likely closest thing you will get is simply using that ninja outfit which should you get together with a styling item for hairstyle, haircolor and eyecolor together with the sword skin the most closest you can get in this game for Izuna minus the goggles and minus the scarf, because sadly you can’t combine the outfits with headgear and shouldergear from normal equipment

Sorry… too late. I already made her into a thief, though, I’m pleased with how she turned out for the most part. Also, the katana greatsword skin is not available on the gemstore ATM. And what ‘ninja’ outfit? I haven’t seen one that fits. :P

And also, I really don’t want to remake her because I used my level 80 boost on her. X_X Sorry.

I already made her. I think the Thief → S/P works fine with her. I’ll post some screenies later.
