Fan Story – The Assassin of Rata Sum - Guild Wars 2 Screenshots - Vini Short Story
(edited by AegisRunestone.8672)
Your best bet would probably be the rawhide vest as the body armor slot. There isn’t really a ninja’y short kimono (no idea what that clothing is really called) in the game to be honest.
If you want to play around with looks, you can open up the wardrobe tab in the bank and click on the icons to preview them. Even if you don’t have the item unlocked you can still preview it.
Go into the game, go to the wardrobe storage panel, go through all the weapon/armor skins and find your best combination.
Yeah, I know about the wardrobe in the bank. That’s how I know those other items will work. :P
I suppose Rawhide would work best.
What about hairstyles? Human or norn for spiky hair (though, norn might be too bulky, look-wise)?
And finally, ranger or thief?
(edited by AegisRunestone.8672)
Also, is there a character creation simulator out there? With additional wardrobe things so you can get the look you need without having to waste money/gold trying to figure it all out? I’ve googled “gw2 character look generator” and no dice.
EDIT: She’s made. Thanks for all the help. Screenshots here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Need-help-making-a-Cosplay-Character/first#post6154250

That’s my album of Izuna, a niche character from two DS rogue-like games (that are awesome, and funny. Not to mention whacky).
Now, she’s a kunoichi (female ninja), so obviously, a thief-class would be best (plus how would I get THAT outfit from heavy or light armor?).
The problem is, as you may notice, Izuna wields huge katanas (daikatanas IIRC). She also uses… magic a little more.
The only medium armor class (as of yet) that uses a greatsword is a ranger. Izuna doesn’t have a pet, though. Though, the ranger does make use of some magic-like abilities, so it could, overall, be a more fitting class.
Other options for her weapons would Sword/Pistol and Sword/Dagger as a thief (she actually does have a pistol in the game, but she never uses it or forgets to put bullets in it. XD)
Finally, the issue of appearance. Obviously, there’s NO WAY I can get the exact look, and so far, female humans don’t have the spiky hair she has. However, I can get the hair color right and the eye color (and maximize her eye and iris size).
As for armor: so far I’ve found these:
Gloves: Rawhide (fingers showing, has ‘metal’ on the outside)
Shoulders: Scarf (that scarf thingie, I forgot what it was called, but I have it).
Chest: Not sure, this one is hard (suggestions?)
Leggings: Rogue Pants.
Boots: Rubicon Boots.
Head: … Well, I’d need some sort of ‘ninja goggles’ that look like cat ears, but that’s not happening. I might stick with that Thief Headband you can start out with.
So, any suggestions for armor, race (human or norn most likely), and whether to go ranger or thief? Thanks.

I really apologize. I haven’t written since the first because I’m very busy and haven’t been managing my time well. x.x; I’ll see if I can get chapter up this weekend (hopefully).
1) Yes, it’s legal. It’s doesn’t mod the game in any way.
2) Why did you post this in Community Creations? You’re going to probably get a response from the devs if you posted this in General Discussion or what have you. Community Creations is for fan-made videos, stories, art, and music. Anything else needs to be posted elsewhere.

Wow. That’s all I can say is: wow. (In a good way)
Edit: actually, I add this: I wish I was around for LS1 due to seeing all the footage in this video.

I would love the Crystal Glider. Just the glider itself; because the Arbiter bundle was just too expensive for me when it was around. I’m in the NA region, and I would love a Crystal Glider for my characters.
I just fought the new Shatterer for the first time today. Holy cow, it was scary, yet fun. The squad was divided into 2 groups. The first one was DPS (I was in that group), and the second was gliding and dropping bombs to break the dragon’s CC bar.
Now, I had really no clue where to go as DPS because there were a few cannons, but all of them used, and I ended up getting killed by a lot of Branded. Regardless, I got credit in the end, and I did some damage to him.
So, what does the DPS group do? Zerg to Shatterer while the others hold the cannons? And I tried gliding, I bombed him a couple of times, but… yeah, I didn’t feel effective. XD
It’s a really fun battle though.
… to make a Desktop rig using $800 that requires an Nvidia card, a Solid State Drive and other parts that runs GW2 at max settings without problems?
You forgot to put a type on your boots. :P
Well i am looking for a fun playstyle where my damage is still good enough that i dont take forever to kill things. Surviving wont be an issue as i know what to expect in the new maps.
Hmm… my build probably wouldn’t be the way to go then. Mine has some level of survivalibility (sp?) in its gear and infusions, but I do kill things fast.
I’m still playing with my build, too.
I use a power build for PvE, but that’s what I’ve used. I’m d/d and shortbow, which weapons are more condi based, but…
This link leads to a dps meter program that you can use with GW2 (and it’s legal) to track your dps. I’ve tried a lot of condi builds in the PvP lobby (which is the best way to get an idea of condi vs. power for PvE), but I’ve found condi to be lacking while power seems to be the way to go. Unfortunately, the PvP lobby does not seem to be very accurate, and Silverwastes tends—at least for me—to show more accurate dps for PvE.
But that depends on your equipment, runes, infusions (if you have ascended), and what trait lines you have. And of course, your play-style.
I like to play the assassin-type Thief. So, I have Shadow Arts to increase the time I have with stealth, and improve my stealth. I use Deadly Arts to increase my flat damage, and I use Daredevil for mobility. Most of my dps comes from Backstab, Heartseeker and Cloak and Dagger.
I also use Assassin’s Signet to increase my flat damage.
I’m not the best build maker mind you, so take my advice with a grain of salt. If you go power, avoid any traits that rely on conditions since you’ll have no condition damage. If you go condition, then obviously focus on traits that rely on conditions.
What I like about GW2 is it’s really up to you due to your play-style. If you’re not sure what your play-style is with Thief, then I recommend experimenting. And using that dps meter program. My average dps with my build is about 5k-5.5k, but I don’t know how high a Thief’s dps is considered reasonable for PvE. For me, I’ve found myself a lot more deadly without Trickery (which I used to use instead of Deadly Arts) in PvE.
What’s a great PvE build for a d/d and shortbow thief? (Armor and weapons are marauder, and trinkets are zerker. All ascended except underwater weapons)
It’s gotta have Daredevil, that’s for sure. But I’m willing to try other builds besides my current which is not dealing a lot of damage.

Name: Vini
Class: Thief (prefers to go by “assassin”)/Daredevil
Favorite weapon: Double daggers
Favorite location: Rata Sum
Favorite type of combat: Deception/Trickery
This asura, although a thief, considers herself to be an assassin. Wielding dual daggers and a short bow, Vini takes pride in being able kill her target(s) quickly and then vanish, leaving little to no trace. Her favorite ways of assassinating involve shadowstepping, stealth, and backstabbing with her daggers. If she has to keep herself out of a danger’s way, however, she’ll pull out her short bow.
In society, Vini is notorious for seducing and sleeping with male asura. Her physical and mental attractiveness keeps males (although they try to resist) coming to her. However, this type of behavior is very detested in Rata Sum, and asura society in general. It often gets Vini into trouble, and has earned her the title of “man-eater.” And even after gaining the title of “savant” later on, she is still often called a man-eater. Because her behavior could be called “insane” and “eccentric,” asura society has also tagged her with a surname of “Yunio.” Thus, it is an insult for her enemies to call her “Vini Yunio.”
Vini has a terrible temper, however. There are many things that can cause this anger to flare. One of them, for example, is trying to harm her little brother named Pol. Pol is very dear to Vini, and her softer side emerges usually when she’s around him. She loves to hug and kiss him on the cheek (which Pol finds slightly embarrassing, but doesn’t refuse).
In terms of sexual intercourse, Vini has three rules: No incest (and those who suggest that she and Pol commits such a crime will suffer immense pain at her hands), no sleeping with any male who has a steady (read: girlfriend), no sleeping with any married male. These self-imposed rules cause Vini to subtly discover if her prey (though she never refers to the males as such) are either married or have a steady through gentle prying and questioning.
All-in-all, Vini has a good heart. She cares deeply about Rata Sum, and its people (despite the fact they dislike her), and will fight against anything she sees as harmful to it. Like the Inquest. Vini hates the Inquest with a passion and rarely shows mercy to any of them. She sees the Inquest as an extreme threat to the safety of Rata Sum and asura society, and therefore must be exterminated to maintain peace.
And that’s Vini in a nutshell.
Edit: Forgot to mention, Vini swears a lot, too.
Edit 2: Added some stuff for the beginning. You can title it how you want, but personally, “The Assassin of Rata Sum” would be what I want to title it.

Really? No one? No positive feedback? Nothing I could improve upon? Nothing I did right?
D’oh! I forgot to describe the new character! I’ll fix that this afternoon.
Edit: Fixed.

Great, all the “Setting the Stage” youtube videos take place in destroyed Lion’s Arch. >.>
Well, I’ve been here since launch, but I took a two year break. When I returned, Lion’s Arch had already been destroyed, and was in shambles.
Also, without the ability to replay the personal story, I’m in a bit of trouble (most of my characters are past those parts).
Oh, thanks! That’s a good start!
… before Scarlet destroyed it.
I know Google exists, but it’s very difficult for me to find the right pictures. Is there a place I can go to explore Old Lion’s Arch in its entirety? Either that, or can you guys help me collect pictures and maps?
Why do I need these? I’m writing my character’s story (see in my sig), and to finish Chapter 12, I need to be able to describe Old Lion’s Arch.
(This part is my variation of ‘Setting the Stage’)

I have sad news: I may not get the next chapter out this week because I’ve been extremely busy with job hunting. However, I’m still going to try my best to get it out this week.
I’m sad I got no feedback.
Yay! Excited people! I’ll see if I can get it out by next week at the latest.
Is there going to be another one? I just finished a short story about Wintersday, and I’d like to showcase it.
Also, I can’t find the tumblr link.
Here’s that Tumblr link for you: http://guildwars2.tumblr.com/
And yes, we will be featuring Wintersday art at the end of 2016, and that show will feature art created during the current festival and throughout the year. It’s not generally feasible for us to showcase fan fiction — the show being visual in orientation — but this sub-forum is a great place to share that work, and we hope that you will post when you’ve finished your project!
That’s the thing, Gaile. My story is a short story, and it’s already finished. And I remember you telling me once that you would showcase short stories.

Enjoy, my friends!
I decided to participate in the Wintersday events this year, and I got ideas for Vini celebrating Wintersday! This fun little short story will entertain you. It takes place three years (current day) after my fan story about her.
Warning: This contains minor spoilers for The Shadows of Rata Sum.
Enjoy! Also, any feedback, and catching of spelling errors/grammar would be appreciated!
Is there a “-png” assignment? bmps are much larger, but pngs are about the same quality without the large hard drive space.

TL;DR: edit gw2 shortcut in your start menu and add parameter -bmp after gw2.exe. No more 15% quality jpeg
THANK YOU!
Happy Wintersday!
I wish, though, I had known this, when I took the attached screenshot.
No, no, no. I mean JPEG artifacts. They make the screenshots look TERRIBLE. I know how to hide the interface, also.
I want to take screenshots without the artifacts in them. I know I saw some program or something that let you do that for GW2.
Anyone know?
And I bet you thought this was an “I’m leaving!” thread. :p Joke’s on you!
Hay, guyz. I’m working on a short story for Vini about Wintersday! It’ll be current day Wintersday, taking place about three years after the events in Shadows of Rata Sum. Fortunately, there will be minor, very minor spoilers. So, you can read it and still enjoy The Shadows of Rata Sum! I’ll try to get it done today (it’ll also be in its own thread)!
Edit: Yeah, I failed to do that due to Writer’s Block. Ugh.

puts on a Santa hat
Ho ho ho! Merrrry Christmas and a Happy Wintersday!
I just do the dailies that give me the best reward for the time and that’s it, I haven’t gotten the Wintersday meta since the first one, and don’t care if I do get it. The jumping puzzle is one that I’m not going to get and I’m not going to waste hours trying to learn it either. Just do what you like and don’t be trying to do stuff that not fun. Its a game you know, not a job.
It’s very much a game. I agree.
So, what did the miner find around the fallen Risen?
He found some Orr.
What’s a Mesmers religion of choice?
Mormonism. (Lol)
Okay, dude. Your Mesmer jokes were funny… up to that point. :|

I hate that JP, too.
I prefer Toypocalpyse.
Well done! I was smiling all the way through.
I didn’t have any issues with my short bow this morning while fighting Claw of Jormag. I was able to hit all my targets.

Killing Treefern was one of the most satisfying moments in the 3 years of this game for me. Besides, if you think his death is tragic, well, tragedy is one of the classic story forms. Long live Iago!
I love that play.

For this story to end, Trahearne really did need to die.
The big question is: “Can the sylvari be trusted?” Trahearne, firstborn and most well known of all sylvari, proved that they can with one of the few acts that would really prove it, giving his life to end Mordremoth. His death is inescapable proof that the sylvari can fight it off and stand with the other races. His death saves them from being held responsible for the sins of fallen sylvari.
Treesus indeed, it seems.
The problem is that Traherne’s character arc was finished. This has nothing to do with whether you like him or not, but rather that he had nothing left to offer as a character.
GW2’s main storyline is the story of you, and the story of traherne, and the story of DE. DE and Traherne’s primary arcs were completed, but while it makes sense to have DE just go about their separate ways and explore what and who they are aside from that organization, Traherne’s arc is defined solely by the formation of the pact and the fight against Zhaitan.
The story demanded the dissolution or at the very least severe crippling of the pact. Not just for the HoT plotline, but for the good of the story going forward. The pact that Traherne and the Commander built was too powerful in a narrative sense.
However, with as important as the Pact is to Traherne’s character arc, it wouldn’t make much sense to have traherne persist if the pact does not. Traherne is defined by the pact. The only way for Traherne to belivably finish his story was to make the ultimate sacrifice.
The way in which he made it may have felt contrived, but a world in which the pact is ruined and Traherne does anything other than attempt to rebuild it wouldn’t make sense. It’s too core to him as a character. Traherne has to pass the torch to the player at some point as he has no depth as a character without the pact and the fight against Zhaitan, but there is not narrative reason for him to belivable do so willingly.
One way or the other, Traherne was always going to sacrifice himself to save the commander. It was the only way for his story to end. It doesn’t matter how much you liked or disliked him. The pact needed to die for believable strife against the remaining elder dragons to happen, and as goes the pact, so too does Traherne.
I agree with both of these posts. I gained some respect for Trahearne at the end of HoT. His noble sacrifice was needed, indeed.
I’ll just put this here
I think the only people ‘losing their minds’ around here are the ones freaking out over ANET saying it’s okay to report spoiler players.
Wow. I don’t like spoilers either but I don’t see any particular reason that BY ITSELF ALONE it would be something to report in a game. Can anyone please point out for me the relevant text in the game’s license that forbids it?
While playing Guild Wars 2, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the Game. To this end, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, embarrass or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players. This includes posting insulting, offensive, or abusive comments about players, repeatedly sending unwanted messages, reporting players maliciously, attacking a player based on race, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, etc. Hate speech is not tolerated.
Repeatedly spamming spoilers in map chat and lfg is straight up harassment and griefing and SHOULD be met with the appropriate response of a suspension.
I love how this was ignored completely.

This is why you must play asura (female specifically). I have never been annoyed with her voice quips.
Female asura’s voice are great! But there’s one thing keeps bugging me though.
Get knocked down “This is how amazing I am!”
Hmmm amazing what? Lying on the ground?
Well, that’s a bug. She’s supposed to say when she crits an enemy. But the bug is… she says those things when critted. It’s been a bug for, what, half a year? They still haven’t fixed it.
Recent patch didn’t fix the bug. :/
Edit: Also, bag settings are reset (highlight new items, hide bags)

As far as I can tell, only when you enter a HoT map does your mini get unchecked. Though, that may have changed.

Hearing my Revenant constantly saying “May Lyssa confound you!” is extremely irritating. I don’t even do anything, just running normally, no skills, no fights, nothing and every once in a while you hear him say that for no apparent reason.
Heh u think that’s bad, my warrior on my 2nd acct, has been saying for almost a year now, “adrenalin full” in Asuran male voice, she’s a human female. As u can imagine, warrior’s adrenalin fills rather often and it grates so bad on my brain and breaks my immersion that i’ve basically stopped playing my warrior. I’ve reported it a long time ago and nothing has been done about it.
To top it off, she now also says “may lyssa confound you” all the time, giving me a double reason not to play her. It’s almost every time they add new dialogue to the game, they bug out all the classes commentary. It never used to be like that, but ever since they began HoT and particularly since they restored the PS, the the dialogues not just for NPC’s but our characters have become an annoying mess.
Oh, gosh, I hate Adrenaline lines; my Slyvari Warrior can’t stop saying them! >_<;
And people wonder why I only play my female asura thief. XD
So, the rewards in the level 70 step are bugged. You get the experience, you get the three bags of loot, but nothing else. I just completed “Breaking the Bone Ship” about an hour ago, and it still did not give the proper amount of loot (the previous steps were bugged like this one).
Can we get a fix for this soon?

“If Mordremoth can attack the Mother Tree in the Grove, it can attack anywhere!”
LOL. This one annoys me to death.
@Slowpokeking: Mordremoth’s plot suffered because they tried to make him unique, did not fulfill his potential for all the lead-ins they created, and rushed the main plot. They literally created a hundred bridges and used two – and not even fully at that, they began going down one bridge then they jumped over and went down another.
Mordremoth’s plot also sucked because they performed an obvious catering to the super-vocal minority of the GW2 community (“I wanna lead the Pact!” – done; “I wanna kill Trahearne!” – done; “I should have gotten saladbowl!” – done).
About Traeharne: everyone I knew in RL who played this game hated Traeharne. All my guildies hated Traeharne. I hated Traeharne. A lot of people who posted on the forums hated Traeharne. We all had different reasons, save that the focus was: “He stole my spotlight.”
Don’t lie to yourself and say that he didn’t steal your spotlight in the PS. At the beginning of the PS, your character says: “This is my story.” And then at the end, it becomes Traeharne’s story.
I really do not believe you at all when you say it’s a “vocal minority” that wanted the spotlight when the story is supposed to be about YOU. Your character. Not an NPC.
