omg, This change won’t really affect us vet MMO gamers who have been playing MMOS for 10+ years. Most of us will fly through the levels so fast these changes won’t mater anyways. Those who are super new to MMOs or totally confused as to how GW2 works compared to a game like (sigh) WoW will have a more accessible game. This is no complaint I’m reading in the OP, this is pure elitism at it’s finest.

So a player coming from WoW where you have to manage in excess of 30 skills will
have a problem adjusting to a 10 skill bar and a dodge…yeah

Hi everyone,

I’m going to paraphrase Colin on this topic. The decision to implement the New Player Experiment system came from tens of thousands of usability testers and interviews with players who tried Gw2 and left leading up to China launch both in NA/EU and in China. It came as a surprise to us but it was an important for us to acknowledge that a number of systems, downed included, were difficult to understand for many players.

For the downed, system we tried a downed tutorial, building downed into the level 1 tutorial and other ideas. After usability testing with numerous different groups, we found that the best rate of people learning and understanding it came from having it be layered complexity and the solution we went with above. Intuitively that wouldn’t have been my guess either initially, but we found people understood it better this way than all other options we tried.

This same level of testing led to the other changes as well. At the end of the day the biggest take away is that all of us (including a lot of people on the forums) probably know games (and Guild Wars 2) really really well. We have millions of users, and a tiny percentage of them frequent game forums. Just because all of us learned those systems well and thought it was all really easy doesn’t mean we are the norm.

I hope this helps everyone here understand that this was a decision to improve the game for many people. Thanks for your understanding

I don’t believe that you would not take into account how this would worsen the game for your already playing people.
And it’s not that you added those tutorials,or that even after the “new player experience” there are still important aspects of the game not being communicated to new players.
No.It is the way you implemented all these and spread them over unneeded expanses of levels.For all intents and purposes this will not be a good experience for new players
especially ones coming form other games,and it surely is a bad experience for the old forum going minority as you describe it.

I just started leveling a ranger and I’m bored. Why? because 1111111. I have yet to use greatsword so I don’t know how it is. Also didn’t look at guides but from my observation, the rotation of most ranger weapons do seem to be 11111.

I don’t know if I will be able to level other character if they levelgate weapon skills.

Just put it on auto attack and enjoy your first levels as a bot really.
Now that’s some pretty bad @s#s gaming.
You still have to use WASD.And Q.And E.
Can you handle it?

I’m on close to the same page as Bird. For those of us that have played through since launch, this does seem insulting, because we obviously did figure the stuff out. We populated the wiki so that other people would have an easier time. People have written all sorts of guides for the various components of the game. Etc. However, there are a lot of people that really don’t have a clue.

Look at the questions being asked in game, on here, in the player helping player forum, etc. They don’t understand down state, they don’t know what wvw is, they don’t get how pvp works, they don’t know what a combo field is, what blasting is, what might stacking is, etc. The game needs a better tutorial for those types of people. People have posted that they don’t understand, that they feel just thrown into the game with no direction, that they are overwhelmed, and many vets have stated that they understand that feeling.

So anet built a tutorial…of sorts. I don’t agree with the implementation of all the various things, but I agree with the general concept. Considering there are people playing this game and it is their first MMO, they need something to help them along. Something to help educate beginners, which might help the player base in general when they get to trying things like dungeons. Sadly, I don’t think that even with our feedback that this implementation will change because it apparently does seem to be working (at least in China).

To be quite honest, I have to admit that I didn’t know how combos really work until 8th or so month after release .

Yes, tutorials are needed.

That is because these are not clearly documented and explained in the skills section of the Hero panel as they should be.
Same goes for conditions,boons,and additional skills gained from Elites and Utilities.
These are also not documented in the skills panel.
On the other hand I hope they don’t add a learning period for conditions/boons in game because then they would have to increase the lvl cap to 200.

Next thing you know Anet is going to say that stacking might is too complex, so were just going to give you all stacks of might for huddling near each other in a ball.

Every 3 levels until lvl 75 you get 1 additional stack of might so that you can get used to the effect this has to your damage output and not be suddenly socked,and then you have a full 5 levels to adjust your brain till lvl 80.

It’s not insulting.
But it is indicative of the way people that make decisions about the game think and
of the people that test these changes out and give feedback before going live.
As a gamer I couldn’t feel more apart from them,it’s like I’m on different gaming planet.
And then there is the way all this is served and marketed and the explanations given
by devs.Exquiz me dear madams/sirs but this is utter BS.
You don’t need 2 levels to swing a weapon skill again and again,you don’t need 11(!) levels to learn what a utility skill does,you don’t need to play for 30 levels without any traits,I’m pretty sure that you can handle pressing F to harvest a node without overloading your precious brain,and you don’t need all this dead time between new features being introduced to you.
If anything, GW2 gameplay is really easy to get accustomed with,and the process of
acquiring new ability slots/traits was already too slow.
As an old player,getting to level alts and checking new classes will be an excruciating experience.
Given these changes GW2 has the most dumbed down leveling for new players,and the most pain in the kitten leveling for old players.Check and check.
This is remarkable and worthy of one more award and accolade!

Authenticator Questions/Concerns [merged]

Tried both barcode scanning and manual input,but every time the 6 digit code
of the authenticator is invalid,and just refreshes the “step 2 -link your account page”.
If you wanna see how a real mmo authenticator works check WoW or SWTOR.Both
of these games have specific apps offered for free to their customers that don’t take more than a minute to set up and are reliable,easily manageable and removable.
This google app is a mess.
Take the time to develop a proper GW2 authenticator.

1.Sadly..Have you seen what other fantasy MMO options
are available for open world PvP?
At least this one is free.

I believe the crowd these items are aimed for is PvE players with
lot’s of gold in their pockets.
I PvE as well as WvW and I know that the gold you can make per
hour in WvW is 1/10th or less of what you can earn in PvE,and that
is just by casually running events and dungeons.
It would take me 300+ hours to earn 300 gold in WvW,the cost of
consumables not included.

A brand new trap is too much to fathom.
I can’t stop thinking of all the ways it can be used and how this will make
WvW a fresh and new experience.
And on top of that there is the new Golem Mastery line.
Add to that the most wanted by the WvW players addition of more gold sinks.
We make so much gold in WvW we don’t know what to do with it.
It’s mind blowing.
You need to stop producing so many awesome features so fast.

Instead of ‘advanced’ features(they are not really advanced,any serious
RvR game would provide these for free,or it would at least allow the
community to create them) like:
-Creating and managing multiple party warbands
-A detailed friend and foe tagg/target assignment system
-A proper name tag system that allows us to manage what we want
to see and hide what we don’t want to see and does not categorize
bunnies birds and squirrels as enemies.
You get:
-The most basic and austere,and unimaginative if I may add,tag system.
As a gold sink.
On the bright side,it is good that there aren’t any ‘advanced’ features because
if they charge 300 gold for a tag,for an add on like WARs ‘Enemy’ they would
take our cars and part of our homes.(we could still use the bathroom).

World Event Boss Audio bug

I noticed that in areas where boss events take place,the audio effects of the bosses
keep on playing even after the events are over.Usually this lasts only for a few seconds
when you get near such an area,but in some cases like the Shatterer in Blazeridge Steppes you can clearly hear the effects playing continuously,as if the event is active.

Maybe this is caused when you log out right after a boss event and when you log back in the same spot,you get the bug?

LS Bug

Second time in a row.
I returned to the game after I wrote the report,got attacked by a random vine,used the ability,that apparently does not free you from the vine it just damages it,the vine got destroyed,I was stack in place invisible and got attacked by a mob nearby and died.

“Help Taccius Stormbane”
The event where you have to free troops from the vines.
If you get trapped in a vine there is a chance you will be stuck there even after
the vine is destroyed.
The ability that is supposed to free you from the vines does nothing.
Had to wp out.

Now the event that supposedly starts the meta is buged and won’t reset.
" Escort Sentinel Scalebrusher and his devourers to the pen " passes through
an area where one the new events takes place and that causes it to bug.
Again typical GW2.Minimal to none quality checks in this game.
Players are 24/7 beta testers whether they like it or not.

OooOOO.
I guess I should have known.
Been trying to do this meta for 3 days know and all this time I thought
the event was on some kind of timer and was not starting.
I decided to camp the NPC Whipkitten for hours and I even did the event
that is supposed to trigger it.
Although I have to admit the signs were clear.
Whipkitten was not moving.
There was a giant friendly devourer also not moving near day’s labor,
and the Bloodkitten NPC was also standing doing nothing amidst her
dead comrades.
One would suppose that when they chose what events to tie with trait
unlocking,they tested that these events were not bugged….
Typical GW2.
It’s ok they will fix it.
Right after they fix the immobilize bug.
What is 2 years when compared to an eternity?

Game Updates: Traits

Please make trait acquisition more straightforward by attaching traits to controllable circumstances. That would go a long way to making this system less of a roadblock while still encouraging exploration. Add named veteran mobs around chests if you have to to satisfy the combat requirement, but please, no mobs tied to events that respawn rarely.

This.
I like the new system but waiting for hours for a meta to start so I can kill a boss
just to unlock a trait is not worth it,and I believe it goes against what this game is trying to achieve,which is not wasting a players time on the boring stuff.

I don’t see how calling for help will help a meta event start.
As per the wiki,I even did a event that is not considered part of the meta
but is supposed to trigger it sometimes.Did that 5 times but still nothing.
I think the meta is bugged and won’t start.
Or the boss is no longer part of the meta and just spawns at a set time interval
so I’m camping at the wrong spot.
I’ll just run a cof p1 and buy the trait.

How do you know this isn’t working as intended?
When you go in the water you automatically unequip your land weapons and equip the underwater ones,and since you can’t get the effect of an unequipped weapon sigil,you lose your stacks.
Anyway.
Don’t change it now.I bought extra sigils.

Has anyone been able to kill that?
It’s in Iron Marches.
I’m boring myself to death waiting for the meta to start but it’s been hours now,
and key NPCs to the event seem to be stack in limbo.
On the positive side I use all that wasted time to come up with the best recipe for Quaggan bacon.

New zones/Cavern of shining lights/fps drops

The difference between the old zones and Dry Top is noticeable.
On every other zone of the map I get 40-60 fps with v sync on
@60Hz 1900×1200 and all settings to max.In Dry top I never get
anything more than 35 fps unless the sandstorms kick in and then
I get a steady 60.
But as soon as I enter the caverns I’ve seen as low kitten fps and even
if I set everything to low with v sync off I never get anything more
than 25 fps.
Moving from Dry Top to Concordia in Timberline Falls was like playing
another game.
For comparison in any of the cave systems in TF I never fall bellow
50fps with all settings to max and vsync on.
Are the new zones really that harder to render than the old ones?
Are they not as optimized as the legacy zones?

P.S Seriously …as low as (##) 5 get’s kittenized?The rise of the kitten tyrant..

NPC dialogs cycle way too fast

You need to increase the replay cycle of static NPC dialogs
to at least 5 min.I suggest 10 minutes.
I’m tired of listening to them repeating the same stuff again
and again.Or give them more things to say.
The way they replay now,takes away from the experience and
the immersion.
Btw “do you remember the sylvari that used to live here?”
I guess you do because you say so every 2 minutes which is 30
times every hour x 24 =720 times a day and it’s been about 3 days
since I started asking so you’ve already answered that more or less
2160 times.
And counting.
You got talking NPCs and that is better than NPCs that just moan and
hum.But after a while hearing them repeat them selves I wish they were
just moaning and humming.

Once again “I don’t like how people earn loot/money, because I can’t be like them” topic.

Why don’t you just try to play as you like and leave others alone? Is it too hard?

What is your point? Should I be amazed by the amount of tokens and golds you have? I have %1 of your tokens and half of your gold amount since I don’t like this game’s dungeons and I can be bored pretty easy with repetitive farms. I have enough gold for me to play and if I need more gold, I have easier ways to farm it. However, it does not change the fact that this thread is another “I don’t like x, so nerf it ANet.”

Same kind of people asked for champ train nerfs. Same kind of people are still asking “Nerf wvw so we can get our world completion”. and you made no comments on the availability and supply of items.
You assumed that reducing the gold income of players will result in prices dropping.That assumption’s already been proven wrong since champ train
nerfs reduced gold gain,substantially,but that had no effect on prices,especially
the effect players calling for the nerfs hoped it would have.
Players make less gold now.Prices keep on rising.

Capricorn was too imbalanced or too unskilled for solo Q (or even hot join!) but… this is ok? Anet thinks that push/pulling people off ledges promotes skill… Fun. Keep skyham in hotjoin, but please take out of solo Q rotation. Or include in team Q rotation please so then people with louder voices will QQ instead of normal people being ignored.

It takes skill to pull or not be pulled off the map.
Also Capricorn was a fine map but again it required players to adapt their game,
and so it got busted.kitten is going to be if you keep on crying.
Then it’s Spirit Watch because adding one more objective to the map in the form of the orb is too much.
Then we will remove the buffs from the temple,well…not all just the 8.30 one,and all will be a nice simple,one build fits all-animals-lord,3 points to cap map

You can’t take in account the sky box when in comes to tell the time of day.
In DR there is always the sun shining bright against a black night sky and in many maps
night time sky is a little brighter than what a cloudy day would be.

They could remove some of their services from the TP and put them
in a e shop where you can pay for them only with money.
Like server transfers,game/account upgrades,name/appearance changes.
All these are paid for services in f2p and even in subscription games.
And then regulate and relax the gold to gem rates.

How is me pocketing my gold from my tour. And then spending it on the trading post for stuff ruining the economy?

sounds like its pretty balanced to me.

spending on tp only remove 15% of the stuff u brough, there is still going to be a excess amount of 25.5g. and its not just u, u have to remember there are also tens of thousand other player doing the same tour.

So if we remove the “excess” 25,5 and he has no gold,how is that going to affect the
demand for the high tier items you want to buy?
Prices of items not as raw gold values,but as a percentage of the average gold per player,or the average gold income possible per player,will always be more or less the same.And the effort and time investment required to get such items is always the same.To really depreciate the value of an item and reduce the effort and time needed to get it you need to either increase the supply or reduce the demand or both.

I’m not complaining.
If this was any other subless MMO I would have spent hundreds
of dollars/euros to buy the services that I bought for no real money
with in game gold.
Although I liked,and took advantage of the gold gain rates before the
champ train nerfs,they were ridiculous for a game where everything,
even stuff like game and account upgrades can be bought with just gold.
You can still make more than enough gold in game but you can’t yolo
farm a legendary every 4 weeks.
If people wanna buy gold they should buy from Anet and not gold sellers.

You should post this in the professions balance forum
and also check Warrior forums for advice.
What build are you playing?
Warrior can out bunker and out dps most other classes
depending on what build you run.
If you run glass cannon with physical utilities then you are
basically a hit and run type of build and most likely to become
Thief bait,unless you are 100% on top of your game.

Lag lag lag.Especially in boss fights the servers can’t cope with the zergs.
Babel.Multilanguage servers…
Merges were needed not this megamonstrosity.

Authorized IPs list removed/buged?

The current IP I’m using is authorized via email authentication,allows
me to log in,but it does not appear on the authorized networks list of
my account which is atm empty.
Is the option to manage authorized IPs removed or is this a bug?

I leveled a toon to 46 after the patch.
Overall I like the new system more,but I have a few remarks.
Pre lvl 30.
You could start unlocking traits a bit earlier,at lvl 20 maybe?
You could add some of the starter trait unlocks to lower level maps.
Weapon skills take no time to unlock,utility slot skills take no effort to unlock given the amount of sp scrolls people have amassed,so what that adds up to is a bit boring
leveling process form 1 to 30.
After lvl 30.
The intervals at which you gain trait points should be made clear to the player in the beginning.
It would be nice to have markers of trait unlock locations on the map,so you won’t
have to go through the list of traits to check out the ones available in the zone you are in.
I liked the option to buy traits with gold and sp.It’s an good alternative for content you don’t want to play.
