Season 8 My Match Making - Response Please

The matches will never be balanced,as long as the classes are as unbalanced as they are,and the MM does not take into account builds in order to determine the teams’ set up.
Besides that,and one of the main reasons that starting from today I’m not touching PvP in this game again,is that there are way too many builds that are not fun to play against.
I can’t have 2 Necros and 2 burn Guards on the enemy team spamming conditions with 0 effort,while I die like a kitten because there’s no healer in my team,and even if there was one,nothing can compensate for all that damage.
Way too much reward for 0 effort.
I understand that I’d have more luck talking to a wall,given how the new Elites seem to be all of the same in terms of power creep,and of course the players that utilise op builds in order to advance believe that all is good and fine.
Until someone at Anet realises that the people responsible for the PvP balancing of classes are hurting the game more than they do good,PvP will keep losing players,and no MM in the world can make this right.

It’s so easy to control it,it’s a small circle around you and all you have to do is to avoid touching another players’ circle with yours.
It’s easy for everyone to stay in melee range and not get damaged from this,but when everyone runs around like a headless chickens for no reason and can’t control their positioning it becomes a problem.

It’s about giving players options on how they like to move around.
Which seems logical for a game that’s meant to be played by hundreds of thousands of players that not all share the same views.
There is no better or worse way of transportation in a video game.
Everything from instant teleportation to flying mounts is valid and has it’s own advantages,and in the end it’s all about what each player finds more enjoyable than anything else.

There are champ trains that have been removed from the game in the past since they were deemed by ANet for creating negative environments. Denying that is wrong.

Then why are there still champ trains?

Tools that empower players to be kitten to others to me are a bad idea. The fact that this thread was started already proves this was an issue.

First and foremost, it’s jumping to conclusions to state dps meters are a cause for anything. Again, toxicity existed before dps meters. And it will exist after them, if they become illegal at some point. You’ll have very hard time proving an actual causality between dps meter usage and an act of toxicity. Just because someone had a dps-related issue with another player proves nothing. Because when you’re underperforming, it shows. And the elitists are both good at spotting it and quick to become toxic about it.

Jump to conclusion?
From this thread alone we can already tell how people who use the dps meter thinks already.

They hate “carrying noobs who don’t perform as efficient as they do, and would like to eliminate whoever not play the way they did to save their precious time”.

I already saw many posts like that from various players here in this very thread.
Reddit have many similar people too.

Just like you like to run in casual pugs and it’s in your right to do so,other players like to run in more efficient pugs and not spend 40 min to clear a fractal that would otherwise take 15 minutes,and it’s in their right to do so.
What you propose is the mandatory imposing of your play style,because that makes you feel more comfortable,disregarding other players’ preferences.
So you don’t care about what your contribution to the party really is,but that other players won’t be able to measure it.

Besides that,I’ve read the various relevant threads in Reddit and here and all I can say is that Anet’s wording regarding to the matter is vague to say the least.
The truth of the fact is that GW2 still lacks basic UI and QoL functionalities that are very much wanted and needed by the players.
Why don’t they build a “legal” DPS meter and provide it to us,since they are so careful with their words in order to retain the right to ban accounts any time they feel like it?
Or have a page in their site where we can see which add on(God forbid) is allowed and which one is not?
If they see the need for such tools,but don’t provide clear solutions for the players,that’s on them not on the community that attempts to provide the basics for an MMO in 2017.

I didn’t play the demo,but I sure hope they won’t make random mobs nowhere near as obnoxious to fight as the ones in HoT.
At least in the first 3 zones.
The mobs(the new ones not the recycled from HoT) in the latest season 3 maps seem to be a lot better tuned for open world content.It’s a good sign.
Remember that the open world non DE/World Boss content is meant for casuals too.
If you throw in mobs of Dungeon difficulty in there,you are basically telling the casuals to kitten off.
And they usually do just that,they leave the game.

The problem I see is that a lot of players and guilds just use it to run instead of staying and fighting. 20vs30, nope, glide away. Its not fun. People are giving up before fights even start and that’s not fun. It usually just ends up with them running off to find a smaller group so they can stomp them or PPT on a different side of the map.

Gliding itself has been a very welcomed change but gliding in combat is a bit lame when you can take 20+ people and just avoid any situation not heavily in your favor. This is why I don’t compare it to stealth. You can’t just stealth a zerg and run away. It doesn’t work like that. Maybe for roaming or small groups with mass invis but not big groups. There needs to be some kind of middle ground to keep WvW engaging and not about running when the odds are even slightly against you.

If people want to run they will run.
And since we are talking about large group in combat scenarios,gliding away equals defeat as it’s so easy to just shoot them out of flight as they glide away.
Free bags for your ranged players.

Why 300 range on guard Staff 1 now?

Because ‘you can hit through walls and gates’.

Why is this an issue now? After 5 years. All aoes can hit through gaates anyway, why is it an issue for guardians?

Exactly what I was wondering, condi engineers with flame throwers are much more effective and can hit through gates too, does this mean the flame thrower is going to be a melee weapon too?

except guardy’s staff is not melee wepon due to still having over a twice as much range as actuall melees [300 vs 130]

and guardian with this nerfed staff can still quite effortlessly outtag any melee class.

Is this a serious argument?
At 300 range you are already engaging in a close quarters fight.
300 range is an utter nonsense,the staff now effectively has no basic attack.
In the end,since they decided to destroy the weapon for reasons only they know,and the excuse about being able to hit through gates is N/A here(if that was the case all such abilities would be set to 300 range),they might as well make it a proper melee attack and not the pathetic mouse sneeze that it is now.

Is there any staff Guardian that finds this skill useful in any way?
Where they will approach an enemy or a zerg at 300 and they won’t switch to a melee weapon?

The way it is now the staff is dead weight.
Before you could use it as a mid range option,and take a melee weapon in the other slot.Now you either take a melee weapon and have 0 ranged capability,or take a ranged weapon and your melee capability is reduced to kitten.
Or you don’t take a staff,wtf,who likes staves anyway…

There are builds in the game that allow players to disengage and use leaps and evades and teleports to be half the map away in 2 seconds,since the release of the game,but now that people can glide away slowly all while being completely exposed to attacks is bad for the game.

Support for BGDM is not being terminated,it will stay compatible with the game.
I wouldn’t use ARC since it is not TOS compliant,and it gives Anet the right to ban you for using it if they choose so.

If you don’t like a meter don’t use it.
It’s an extremely useful tool,great for testing out the actual performance of different builds,and for measuring your class/build and rotations against those of other players’.
If you want to run a casual pug for fractals create your own LFG listing,or join another
that asks for no requirements.
There are a lot of those,and there’s all shorts of parties running all day long.
If you see listings that require experience and certain class set ups,food,potions etc,don’t join unless you are willing and able to fulfil the requirements,and doing adequate DPS is usually a requirement for exp parties.
I play the T4s almost every day,I use a meter,and I’ve never seen anyone being kicked because they were not using a meter.
Personally I don’t care having low dps players in ,but others won’t carry and it is in their right to do so.

That Lotus Thief build almost made me quit WvW.
With PvP I don’t even bother anymore,Super Mario Cart is more balanced,but
going 1v1 against that abomination of a build in 2017,in a game that was supposed to have solid PvP balance….

This is so profoundly wrong.
The commander withheld important information about the raid group set up,mislead the players that joined in the LFG,and used the pug in order to make gold.
But hey,it’s ok.He does it all the time…
There is a word for guys like that but I don’t want to get an infraction.

The basic layout is excellent.
They’ve done a really good work with the placement of the various elements,and it takes very little eye work to keep track of everything during combat.
I use it as a basis for building the UI in other games that allow add ons etc.
But it lacks customization options.

It made the basic attack of the weapon practically useless.
Who will use the staff at mellee range,and why wouldn’t they be using a proper mellee weapon instead?
I’m not surprised really,imo the choices this balance team makes defy logic.
They could at least make it 425 range like the far..sorry I meant flamethrower.
It can shoot through gates and walls too.

Gliding, what a shambles

Gliding is a 10/10.
It made moving through the maps so much better.
And from what I see a lot of players love it.
The game has far more serious problems,especially with the small scale combat balance which is fubar,and taking away the only good feature that came with the last patch would be stoopid.

On the top of the UI you can see who is controlling the territory you move through as well as information about the relative objective and its upgrade status.
In the mini map you can see the territory border lines coloured according to the side that owns it.

Would you rather stack in one spot the whole fight and keep spamming 1?

So to you there is not middle ground in balancing a fight,you will either stack and press 1(do you know of a T4 fractal where this is possible?)or you will dodge every 2 seconds like a bunny.

The visuals and the setting are nice,but the mechanics make it feel more like SAB than GW2.I thought the great balls of fire in Nightmare were bad and out of place,but this new one I just can’t play,it doesn’t feel GW2ish,it plays more like something for playstation.

That’s the only reason I stopped playing.
Not the rewards or the ranks.
Unfortunately GW2s PvP class balance has ended up including each and every balance flaw possible.
Classes are way too powerful and bloated for PvP.
This is game where one shooting players while being invulnerable and dps bursts from stealth are a thing.
I can’t take this seriously,and this is definitely not a world class PvP game.
Hopefully they will get it sometime and do some serious work on class balancing and combat quality.

Well it’s a logical assumption.
Since now we got mounts,and that makes the game totally like WoW because-reasons-of course there will be gear progression(not in a million years really),but mounts…..
In fact games are divided in two distinct categories.
The ones that have mounts and are all basically the same game,and the ones that don’t have mounts and are cool,because again-reasons.

They will definitely cost a lot more points to unlock than the HoT ones,but the HP gain from completing the relevant content will also be increased.
I expect it would take about one to two new maps worth of HPs to unlock a full trait line.

I want people without mounts to be invisible.
I also want all SAB related items to be invisible.
And Heralds with their flashy purple disks invisible too.
I also don’t want birds to fly too close to my toon,so make them invisible too.
Bunny ears— invisible.
Pony shooting weapons-invisible.
And since I don’t like walking in games,I’d like to be able to go everywhere without moving(kinda like the angry salad dragon).
It’s a win win,and a win.

A DX version and technical specs on their own mean nothing.
I’d rather have devs well accustomed with the tech they use,so that they can work more on the creative aspects of the game,than changing the engine every 3 years because companies have to replace redundant and largely underutilised technologies
in order to keep their sales going.
GW2 running in DX9 performs as a multiplayer online game better than any other MMO,and still looks awesome.Definitelly better than WoW will look in DX25
As for SLI support,please tell me of an MMO where this actually works.
Even in most single player games at best the SLI drivers are set so that they won’t cause any problems,but the gain in performance when we are talking about the high end category of GPUs,is marginal.
Although not being able to play with 3 1080s truly sucks and makes everything vain.
And no 4K?
Wtf?How can you even look at a screen bellow 4K?

In PvE there’s one golem test area in the fractals lobby and one in the raids area in LA.
There are test golems in the PvP lobby as well.
You can always join a instance like a dungeon or Fractal alone and fight all the mobs and bosses you want solo.

The Mystery Cave Audio

There’s a prominent and permanent grinding stone like sound effect,that plays throughout the whole instance.
It is mixed and played through the environment audio channel,and it not only covers all other sounds playing through that channel,but all other audio effects in that instance,including dialogue.
Even if you lower the ambient channel volume to almost nothing,it’s still clearly audible,that’s how loud it is.
This has been reported repeatedly,for years,and yet it’s still being ignored.
Can a dev please play that instance and tell us if this is acceptable audio quality for a product they sell in the store?
Hopefully this will be fixed sometime before GW11 comes out.

PvP Feels Utterly Broken For Necros

Ok.
I know my point of view is not popular at all.
But Necromancer is one of the best professions to 1v1 a Thief,is ok against a Mesmer,and can do a kittenton of damage in team fights.
If it got more buffs it would become less demanding to play than a Warrior.

Are you SERIOUSLY complaining that little monsters are attacking you? Have you tried… killing them?

It becomes boring after sometime.
Especially given how even the lowest mobs in this game are given some short of soft or hard CC for the only purpose of making them as annoying as possible,since they don’t even remotely pose a threat to high level players.

Tie it with the monster kill count related achievements.
If you max out the achievement,that family of mobs becomes yellow tag,and will only attack if provoked.
BDO has a similar system where in you venture in an area where you over level the mobs,they won’t attack you.

Someone in another thread mentioned using WvW rank to order the map queues, where higher ranks get in faster, even if that means they are cutting in line…like a Disney Fast Pass.

So that players that farmed ranks in EotM easy mode while playing PvE,can get in WvW faster.
Excellent suggestion.

Nicely put.
Class and combat balance don’t only need to be balanced in terms of the numbers and the math,but also be perceived by the players as balanced and also be fun to play.
And in the case of combat balance in a MMO game,I would say perception is even more important than reality.

Better this way as it involves player skill.

Is placing oneself behind a target really worse being labelled as having “skill”? At best it’s a restriction that add flavor and punish foes that dare to show their back to the ranger. It has really nothing to do with “skill”.

It has more to do with skill than not having to control your position in relation to your target in order to maximise your attacks’ effectiveness.

The op is correct.
The trait initially and right after the patch came out made all SB attacks behave as if you were behind the target.
Now it’s been changed so that it is still required to hit a target from behind or the sides to get the bonuses,and the bonuses are buffed.
Better this way as it involves player skill.

Huh? Condi engi got nerfed with this balance patch. Protection Injection and Bunker Down were both necessary traits for the build to be even remotely viable, and they both got nerfed last Tuesday. They also removed Sigil of Geomancy and Torment, so condi engi’s damage output is reduced as well.

Condi engi hasn’t really been a viable build outside of unranked for quite a long time, and Tuesday’s patch might’ve been its death knell.

Condition Engineer is all about unloading their condition burst and then getting the kitten out until the burst is off CD,and then proceed to burst again.
No sane condi Engi will stand and fight.So the nerfs were actually more of a nerf for the Power Hammer Engineers than for the Condition burst ones.
As for the reduction in damage,when you reduce the weight of an elephant by 5kg,that doesn’t say much.It will still hurt like a kitten if it steps on you.

Basically,the way the game is set up now,the higher your DPS burst is and the more disengage and avoidance skills you can equip,the better.
Just pop in,unload the burst and then leave.
Classes that have to stand and fight are at a disadvantage.

Class balance is equally terrible in PvP and WvW.
If you assume that because of some of the changes that were made and affect only PvP,that game mode has better class balance than WvW,you are wrong.
Play some PvP and see for your selves.
If anything,imbalances are somewhat covered up in the large battles that take place in WvW,whereas in PvP they are even more apparent.
Class balance has been steadily degrading in all of the player v player modes.
Even Warhammer online had more balanced classes,and that game had a dev team comprised of 3 janitors 2 hamsters and one hamster wheel.

Stop Nerfing Warrior Sustain

It’s not the sustain it self that is the problem,but the amount of DPS you can dish out at the same time.
If this game was trying to be a balanced skill based PvP game,it would be made so that when you are covered by strong defensive abilities,like invulnerability, resistance, blocks,evades etc etc,you would be able to output only a fraction of your maximum DPS.You would then have to make a choice.
Do I play under the cover of my defences but deal less damage,or go for my maximum burst but be more exposed to enemy attacks.
Like a skill based game should be,and not this spam fest of self playing classes where the whole mode has been demoted to who’s going to use the most gimmicks and be able to spam insane burst spikes continuously and with little to no thought about it.
This applies to every single class in game.
Not just Warrior.
The cheese is real.
