Except most of GW1’s skills came from future expansions. There wasn’t so many options when GW1 was released. We had about the same amount of options.
Look here http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_of_Prophecies_skills
So you’re wrong but i hope they add more skills when they release a new expansion.
All I got from that is I’m a bit off. It’s a bit less because some skills were combined or removed or added to weapon based skills. I don’t see how I’m that wrong though, sorry. They’ll add them in updates like expansions. I just see useless whining over something Arenanet is known for. Adding more depth to the classes.
Edit: Yep, looking at some class comparisons between the games it looks about the same on the skill trees. Maybe a few skills are missing or one class is a few short but as I said above more are to come.
Edit: Underlined the part you might have missed ? I said ABOUT the same amount. Not an exact or more. (though some cases it is) Might be less but it’s not something to cry about.

Combat may be ‘fun’ or rather, active but it IS boring with extremely limited skills.. can’t deny that.
I do not agree on the premise that I actually use all 10 skills on my bar plus profession mechanic skills, alternate weapon kit, forms and the like. All of those skills have a use in the correct situation.
Compare to any other MMO where you just spam fireball. Oh yea there’s an optimal routine, but just spamming fireball gets you everywhere. WoW fans called GW1 the 8-skill game. The sad fact being that WoW is pretty much a 1-skill game regardless of how cluttered your screen is.
WoW may be effectively be more simplistic (ie: death knights have many skills that effectively do the same thing on different timers), but GW2’s skill selection is way worst than GW1. Just the fact that 5 of your skills (ie: the weapon skills) are effectively locked (although weaponswaps/attunements/kits helps mitigate that), your 6th skill is locked into “healing”, your 7th – 9th into "utility, and 10th into “elite” doesn’t really add as much build diversity as GW1. (well, that and the not having a 2nd class thing). I understand why the game was designed this way (ie: helps with balance issues), but I still miss the flexibility GW1 gave you in skill/build selection.

I played GW1 up until Eye of the North. I find GW2 to be very fun.
I’m not that attached to the name, it’s the stupidity of anyone thinking they need to be the pc police and moderate character names that few would find truly offensive.
To be fair, you are trying to get across an “offensive” word by spelling it differently.
American perhaps? Like a lot of the English language American’s spell it differently than pretty much everyone else in the English speaking world
Dumb" kitten quot; is closely referred to the american version of Dumb… well I hope you know what word I’m thinking of. Which in most societies calling someone that word is offensive.
It should also be pointed out that the TOS does say that ANet has the right to force a name change to any potentially offensive names, up to and including alternative spellings of swear words, gods (mythological or otherwise), and even copyrighted names from other games.
If someone has an offensive name and it’s reported. Arenanet has the right to change it.
I played healer in a lot of other mmos including the first gw so I do understand. That said I respect that gw2 is not doing things this way and I accept it because it offers a much more unique experience.
So whenever I miss playing a healer I play one of the dozens of other great mmos that have a trinity/healing. Problem solved!
This. I play two mmos currently. If I ever feel I want to play trinity, I go and play that.

The thing that is really annoying coming from other mmos (GW1 Vet I am use to it but it seems really outdated and old to not do it) Is there is no way to join a “Dungeon Finder”
Now I’ll get flamed for this but sitting in Lion’s Arch all day hoping to find a group and spamming LFG is not fun. I prefer being able to queue up and get something.. Not sitting around all day hoping for the best.
Also, most of the world is empty. Leveling up I saw maybe 2-4 people per zone. That’s really sad to me as the whole point of the game is to keep the entire world interesting I thought.
I logged in today did AC Story (since you have to do story before you can do explorable, which is a hassle in itself) and logged off. There’s not much incentive to do anything or try when nobody is around to do it.
All I see in LA now is LFM FOTM LEVEL 1 Billion -_-
I’m behind in the 80 crowd and I feel punished for taking so long. =/
I don’t get how people can say GW1 was better. I played it when it first came out before I went off to WoW for a few years. I just don’t get it. It was a good game don’t get me wrong. (It was my first MMO, kitten I love it dearly.) But now in the day and age of newer mmos. The play style and direction of GW1 would just not work. The game is very slow and has outdated movement methods… (Point and Click, Moving with clicking, moving to a target automatically which resulted in really weird movement at times) I loved GW1 and I played through Nightfall… But it needed a change.
GW1 is a different game from 2. It’s a good thing though to me. The old system was very slow to me. it felt like a TBC game most of the time. That’s not to say it didn’t have it’s fast moments too (I played I’m just giving a perspective here.)
I’m hoping one of these major content updates is going to fix the issues with Orr. I’m actually a late comer to the 80 scene as I just got my first 80 a few days ago. (I re-rolled a lot) I’m not able to do anything you guys were able to do the first few months and it’s a bit sad. I wish I could participate in half these events but nobody is ever around. Forget map completion… that’s a joke in itself.
@ #1. I just got to 80 and started doing Orr.. unless I’m missing something that place is a nightmare if you don’t team up or at least stay with others while traversing the terrain… But with the rest of the game. Yes, I totally agree with you.
#2. Couldn’t agree more this game needs more guild… wars.
#3. Eh, I never expected this from guild wars. It wasn’t in the first and they tend to make more challenging things for people to do or more story driven things… I could do without raids in this game. I have them in the other mmo I am playing. :P Going to disagree with you there.
I kind of wish our dodge ability had different choices for classes. For example, classes with shields instead could block for the duration of a dodge instead of dodging. Everyone rolling around is silly sometimes. =P
I like the idea of level 100 characters. 80 feels like a weird number. Maybe I’m just old fashioned. Regardless, since the level is set to 80 increases can complicate things. I’m on the fence about if I want an expansion with level caps or the traditional GW route of just more things to do. As long as other things do not become obsolete (like all of tyria). I’m on board for an expansion soon.

All of these things sound like they will make culling so much worse. Especially the weather effects… I think I’ll pass on your ideas.
I’m really proud of FA this week. We were struggling in third for a while and managed to rally over Christmas to pull into second. Nice job guys. Great fighting this week.
Go to FA. We just had a great week this week. We got beat down into third place against IOJ and CD and managed to rally over X-mas and pull ahead into second. We have a great community and great commanders. Seriously, join us!
You do realize there is a profanity filter right?
Something that might be a good idea would be for them to add a small scale WvW, but have it actually be Guild vs Guild. An instanced map where 2 guilds (or maybe if they add alliances, two alliances) can duke it out. A guild master and/or vice guild leaders could send a challenge to another guild and they could set up and enter a enter a private instance.
Have one map be like a smaller version of one of the WvW maps, a medium sized map, and then a smaller map (so one designed for around 15vs15 or more, medium map for 10v10, and a smaller map for 5v5 or less; actually team size could vary, but there should be a max player limit on the medium and small maps).
Introduce different game modes with this too:
- Guild Deathmatch (just a straight up points match with either a kill goal and/or a time limit)
- King of the Hill (one point, many bodies; capture point changes every once in a while at set intervals)
- Sabotage (a seek and destroy type; each side is trying to take a bomb to the others’ base and arm it)
- Capture the Flag (How could they leave out this classic )
Everything stated in here is pretty much my thoughts towards GvG. Great post!
Yeah, I was able to get the LA one but not the sPvP one.
Yep, got the LA one. Can’t get the sPvP one. Lame
just completed this. pretty simple. just kite toxx and rebuild defenses. don’t take too long as things seem to disappear after a while.
Like Snowball Mayhem and the Bell Choior, the Toypocalypse is an activity. They are using the same systems, and these systems do not permit joining by party. Unfortunately due to technical limitations and time constraints before the holidays, we cannot change it. We understand that this is not ideal for people who wish to play in the same party and who are finding it difficult in random groups. We will be adjusting the “Toypocalypse Cancelled” achievement so that you will need to keep only one gift dolyak alive. We do not have an ETA on when this change will be live. Thank you for your feedback. We have been listening, and we will take your comments on board for future game updates.
When will this be live? I may as well just not do the achievement until then.
I agree that the game is not very bread crumb friendly and that the story is really bad. But to say the non-trinity is game is too confusing is stupid. It’s not cookie cutter anymore in this game. Author needs to realize that. There are good builds obviously but you can get away with whatever you want.
It was fun last night around 5-7 am EST where FA just pretty much ran break out events constantly on TC because we didn’t have the people to do anything. -_-
One thing i would love to see is allowing builds to swap dodge for a sustained block under certain conditions.
Then you could do things like the roman shield formations where the front row would act as a mobile wall while the back row lobbed javelins at the opposing force.
The closest we have right now is a rotation of people popping their short duration/long cooldown shield skills, or trying to time them to counter a specific attack.
This is probably the most innovative idea I’ve heard in a while. I like this idea a lot. As a Guardian I only have my Aegis and maybe one other ability that truly lets me block. I’d actually like to be able to raise my shield up and block instead of rolling.
Restarting my computer fixed the issue? Any idea why the hell my fps was capped out so low and restarting fixed it?
Tried messing around with my GPU settings and using the sticky to fix it. Made my FPS worse. Guess i’ll take a break from GW2 since it’s free. Hopefully this fixes.
on an i7 2550k 3.40 ghz 4 cpus with a 560 ti gtx. just fyi
I’ve had render sampling on Native since release. Since this last patch when I turn off my render sampling to Subsample (the blurriest sampling yet, hurts my eyes) it goes up almost 30 fps. What did this patch bring on that made this happen? Last night I was playing with 40-80 fps in WvW. Now I can barely stay above 40. What happened?
It’s the fact you can switch between guilds by standing down and representing another guild. We have frequenters who do this in my guild. When we play WvW it’s all OH LETS PLAY WITH THEM! But when WvW dies down they leave and go back to their other guild.. Nobody in the guild really feels like a member.
You don’t have to do them… it’s not mandatory. If you want achievements then I guess you have a point. But nobody is really forcing it on you. There’s plenty to do.
I always felt they were Indian. Either Native American Indian or Indian culture.
I got it on my first try, I just never stopped. Only time I did was to wait out a snowball avalanche.
‘Sup bros. Let’s keep the discussions P. LEASE. A. CT. Y .OUR. A .GE. which happens to be 12.
Fixed first post.

Did everyone leave FA? Should I jump the boat too? 0 points for FA right now… the hell?
Highest dps, permastealth, best mobility, decent ranged dng. What’s balanced about this? Thieves are in abject denial of god mode.
What needs fixing is peoples perception on thiefs
Highest DPS, Stealth and mobility. So thats a 30/30/30/30/30 build your talking about then. When can I spec like this? Because im limited.
And the OP is a warrior. Warriors, full glass cannon, invunrability and 20khp and massive leaps and good duration blocks, 6sec cooldowns. Yea ok. I rolled a warrior and laughed at the power compared to a thief
People need to learn to make proper pvp builds if they want to pvp and win
The difference is you can see a warrior coming, and if he starts losing mid fight, he doesn’t have the option to disappear and reappear 10 seconds later for another attempt. Likewise if he runs away you can see him do it.
Thieves ARE OP in their current state, but until the culling issue is addressed no-one can look subjectively at thieves to see if something needs toning down.
As much as I hate thieves, it is part of their class mechanic to use their stealth to defeat you. By running away and resetting the fight. It’s the same thing that rogues would do in WoW and it was easily counter able by most classes who knew what they were doing. The same is going on here, however I do agree that thieves could use a tad toning down. Not to the extent people are suggesting however.

Sooooo…when is AUS/NZ getting their server?
Seriously I hate (nearly always) being a second class gamer citizen.
The AUS gaming communty is a strong one and we deserve to have our own server!
They’d have to add 3 servers for you wouldn’t they? Would be odd if they had an uneven amount of servers for WvW. It would be a 1v1 WvW because they don’t have a third server for the match.
Well, depending on expansion theme (Cantha, etc) I’d say Ritualist.
Deer.
Trained by Chuck Norris.
Roundhouse kick apprentices.
Either go back to WoW or try something else. It’s an entirely different style of MMO. Which is why I play it along side the traditional MMO mechanics. To mix it up for myself.
The new system of servers splits everyone up. If you play at night like I do, you won’t see a single person throughout your playtime. This makes events very frustrating for me as I can’t solo all of them. The old GW1 system of “servers” made it so that I was always meshed together with people. The solution to this problem is to add in cross server areas so that I can play with others across all servers at all times.
It is ANets lore, they can do whatever they want with it. Just like WoW made it’s lore into complete crap, mostly. Deal with it, imo.
AFAIK, Guardian Story elements have nothing to do with your character in anyway either. Not sure about other class specific choices.
In all the categories that have the game listed on multiple sites/award shows. I mostly voted for something else. While it is a great game and a fun play. It is missing a lot and could use work. SPVP gets boring after an hour or two. WvW is getting repetitive (Feb update may change this) and once you hit max level the PvE is stale with no real character progression. (except through gear that is only cosmetic.)
Typical response:
“I use to QQ about thieves like you, until I rolled a thief.”
So the only way to beat a thief is to be a thief? That’s cool…
No. It means that playing a thief will give you insight into the mechanics of the thief class and with that understanding you can better face them on other classes. Or you could just take everything out of context and make it seem like your post is relevant.
Rolled a thief. Played it in sPvP and WvWvW, the class is by far the easiest and most broken class in the game. I couldn’t stand it. Haste/Pistol Whip along with almost unlimited stealth is so broken. High Burst and great survivability should not be in the same sentence.
Yeah! Bring on events that only a small portion of the population get to participate in! That will bring in more customers for sure!
Making an event that only a fraction of your population will be able to participate in and then make the island after that useless will make for one great event. Right guys…?
Well that sucks, I won’t be around for any of the one time events. Too early for me.
