Just focusing on stability vs cc’s, I think it is actually more balanced now in terms of functionality. The availability of cc/stab is another issue that’s left to work on. In the past you could basically stack stability to get a permanent duration and run through all cc’s, that was one extreme because there was no counter for cc’s. When they changed stability to have stacks, it went to another extreme because there was no balance with the amount of cc’s that could be applied, so stability could be instantly stripped and sometimes useless, this lead to pirate shipping. Now with the internal cool down that prevents all stacks from being instantly stripped, it is a lot more balanced. Now stability can counter cc’s, and cc’s can counter stability, so it works out a lot better. They also changed the target limit on certain cc skills like static field, so while cc’s are still strong, certain sources have been brought more in line, without being made useless.

Old stability was hardcapped to 10 seconds.

The way it functioned, made it possible to be rotated, essentially allowing it to be permanently maintained

That is a big difference to “boon stacking”. It requires coordination (squad/group setup, stab 1, stab 2) and works only with voice coms properly.

ANet’s decision to bring back Alpine was excellent, but there are some aspects of the Desert BL that I believe can be re-used.

Some things like the Laser event…shudders…let’s not bring that horror show back.

It’s frustrating, but ANet does read our posts & takes suggestions to heart.

Why is it always the us ladder complaining btw?

IF players only have an hour or two to play the game and during that time every map in the match is Queued the entire time, when do they get to play WvW?

If a player buys the game just to play WvW and they make it so they cannot play WvW every time they log in, I would think they should be irritated and let the developers know. These Queues are making it so some players cannot play WvW at all anymore. They are not solving the queue issue by mergings servers, nor does that solve the coverage issues since some servers still have coverage outside of NA prime and others do now so that just makes it worse.

They can easily solve the queue issue and the “coverage wars” by putting more maps in play during busy hours and reducing that number during off hours so you only have enough maps available to accommodate the population of the servers in the match. that solves both issues at once and is a long term solution rather than just make monstrous queues and make the game unplayable for the people trying to play it.

And where is the difference to EU again? You describing a general problem which can be fixed by using the overflow map like it was intended.

An overflow map is not the solution when that map is not even the same game they are trying to play, nor does it impact the score. IF the overflow map allowed them to actually play the game they logged in to play and contributed to the score you would have a point, but they didn’t do that so all that you are saying is they get to log in to play a different game they have no desire to play because the dev’s screwed up the system used to play the game they paid for.

Playing Eotm isn’t what many players bought the game for. When the players filled out the surveys they used to make this game and asked for large scale PvP and were promised WvW, they expected to get that. If all they do is play WvW and would rather play a different game than GW2 at all than go EotM, it is not working as intended is it? I would think the intention would be to increase players not send their business elsewhere due to not being competent enough to design the mode so players spend their time playing it rather than waiting to play eh?
There are solutions for these issues that keep players in the action, not waiting for it. IF it fails to do that it is considered unplayable to many and needs to be fixed. The primary objective of a large scale PvP game mode is to keep players in nonstop challenging, strategic, fun large scale PvP action the entire time they are logged in, where they can play with their family and friends and have players to play with and against every time they log in. IF the game fails to do that it has failed in their objectives and is far form working as intended. No, that means it is terribly broken instead.
EotM is not WvW, nor is it what players would consider a " consolation prize" for not being able to play the game the paid for.

Yes.. Apparently thinking it is nuts to expect players to spend their game time in the action rather than waiting to get to it is wrong and they should just sit there and wait if they hate EotM rather than go do something fun elsewhere Mr. Blah blah. LOL

This flaw is making the game unplayable to many and should be corrected if they do not wish to further kill the game mode. You should always want more players to play the game mode for the game to grow, not punish them for doing so.

Empty maps aren’t realy promoting this game mode either.
For many players the reason to play WvW is to whack on other servers blobs, best non-stop.
EotM has a bad reputation because of it’s karma trains and some (or many) players don’t like it’s mechanics and layout. But in it’s core it’s not different to eb or borders.
You with your club…enemy with club….slap on.
If the difference for you is only “le tick”….well most don’t give a rats kitten for that.

Because the NA servers haven’t one exclusive timezone to play?
On EU most maps are dead after 0400 (4 am) and people get online earliest at 0800 again.

On NA servers you have a 24 hour queue because of EU, NA/SA, SEA and OCX players.

That would mean on EU the playerbase is concentrating on a smaller time frame and US would distribute it’s playerbase on the whole day.
Isn’t it more about that you activly rigged the ladder and stacked on a few worlds?

How exactly do you propose that the US “distribute its player base”? There’s a limited number of hours in the day for everyone and an even more limited number of hours to play video games.

0800 pm to 0400 am (as stated above) is less then 24 hours.

I’m a casual player and I only have time to play gw2 for about one hour per day. The queue time essentially prevents me from playing WvW, which is the only part of the game that I really enjoy.

Queues weren’t even this bad on launch weekend for me. I’m a casual player on a fairly casual server and I liked it that way.

EoTM have no qs
go play there for one hour a day, its 3 hours per match there 24/7
the match on Worlds are a week look, so EoTM suits your playstyle
dont stress yourself too much on WvW, its just a game bruh

Outside of Anet devs, who considers EoTM WvW?

It’s an overflow. Get some commander on the map and play it like WvW. If every other paired server is doing that problem solved.

Since two month in eu there is happening a mass exxodus from lowpop + lower Gold Servers to SFR which resulted, in combination with the wvw patch, in massqueues on all borders during Prime time.

Since you (Anet) are as interested as the rest of us in keeping people busy and occupied to WvW i kindly request to set SFR full – manually if your selfbuild system isnt working – to make people head up and get their servers running instead of stacking on one Server and killing any possible competition.

No, we didnt ask for the transfers, no we didnt wanted others to leave their servers, heck we were having a mid-high population ourselfes 2 month ago.

So before now the last international guilds and people decide to join SFR because having competition means nothing to some, please mark us as full.

NAH – it removes the PvE players from coming into the map and there is enough PvE in the map already.

Most players started with pve in GW2, drop your elitism.
The more player with have in WvW the better.

Just in case you have missed it but we having a huge issue with getting new people into wvw maps. Those “pve farmers” might be the next recruit for your guild.
Without new people guilds will die and the game mode will die.

It wasn’t possible to counter treb from bay so the defender have to go to the camp in order to remove those trebs. Yes there were epic fights about that but if the defenders were badly outnumbered low chances to hold bay.
This will change on the “new” alpine map with shield gens of course….

It was possible either with trebs or mortars bay even had mortars on the outer wall.
How about we have ABL back, play some more on it and then complain about what can and can’t be countered?

ETA: Unless you mean trebs in a place where I have never seen them.

The trebs inside the south west camp couldn’t be reached by siege from bay. In additon siege on outer walls (trebs and mortars) will be taken out before obviously.

Well those trebs are out in the open and in range of Bay, so it really seems rather clever placement whoever discovered that. And yes there have been some epic fights in swc/nwc/nc, gawd how I miss those

I speak about friendly fire on yourself.
Then when you shoot with your cata the splash damage will hit you and your cata.
No one else.

And friendly fire could be fine, a lot of game have friendly fire.
But then anet need to add some mechanics to ban people who make too much friendly fire in a small amount of time. With increase ban time.
Then you can add friendly fire to AC, to make happy all the guy who hate the AC… This will reduce the use of this siege in fight.

Friendly fire is totaly fine in a game system were I can chose with which guys I’m in a group (EVE online for example). In GW2 however we can’t.
I explained before that I will simply load an alt account on the sieging servers side, build an AC and will just ruin someones day.

If you don’t know “how you want to play” I suggest you get in touch with your server community. The game mode is much more fun in an organized group and a friendly environment.

That was probably a poor choice of words on my part. I found a friendly guild that does a little of everything, I was just asking myself if I should finally get myself into WvW.

It’s a sandbox with a lot of different methods on how to enjoy the game mode.
Soloing, roaming in small groups, havoc groups, fighting guild groups, gvg and everything in between.
Just try it out it doesn’t cost you anything
Ask in map chat in WvW after the link to your community website and Team Speak. It will make it easier to see whats going on.

Playing WvW is a gold sink anyway or at least you don’t make much money out of it. Our best reward (so far) is by having great fights, successful defenses and smart tactical game play.
There will be soon (19th or 26th april) a live beta on a new reward system. Let’s see what we will get.
If you don’t know “how you want to play” I suggest you get in touch with your server community. The game mode is much more fun in an organized group and a friendly environment.

Cata splash damage

They should make this damage hurt objects from all sides (not just enemy stuff), so they blow themselves up. This point blank catapult stuff makes a nonsense of the whole affair!

Yes friendly fire (at least the siege used to fire) could be very interesting.

I have a dream: a reworked eotm (less edges and pve) which would function as “borderland”, with DBL as 2nd BL and Alpine BL as third BL and, of course, EBG.

Concur, said it before, saying it again.

WvW: 1 EB, 1 EoTM, 1 ABL (three-sided design), 1 DBL (three-sided design).

What does this do:

  • Gives people that like flat maps, 2 maps
  • Gives people that like chokes and edges, 2 maps
  • Rolls EoTM into WvW for scoring and population
  • Doesn’t please any one side completely, meaning a little for all but not all for 1
  • Adds variety for people to choose from as far as maps

Now how they handle EoTM as far as just your server versus all, that requires further discussion and if they end up rolling the servers up in some new system we hear about in a few weeks or if they consolidate servers.

The absolut majority of WvW players have already voted. They don’t want Desert Border or EotM or any other map in that style. They want a map were fighting is possible without gimmicks and stupid environmental effects.

Let’s see how those announced reward changes are developed. After that the farm caravan will look for the next best oportunity.

EB keeps are good example where the change has made game better, dominating server can not so easily take over whole map now, and then hold it forever, spawncamping smaller servers. It was big problem before HoT. I honestly do not think old system was “fine”, it had problems too and Anet tried to address those with the new system. It’s not perfect either but it can be adjusted without returning to the old broken system.

I think the insta waypoints in the home eb keep and in garrison is a realy good solution. With the old system it made it harder for a server to catch up. On the other hand I think waypoints in the side keeps on the borders should be part of the upgrade process.

Yeah there used to be no stacks. 20 seconds of stability meant 20 seconds of complete immunity against cc’s. This of course made so called “paintrains” (~75% meeles) extremely strong because you could just straight run through anything they throw at you.

With the nerf it was basically impossible to push anywhere because you’d need somewhat around 30 stacks of stability for every push you wanna do leading to the pirateship meta. Both not very nice but many people say that the first version at least incentivised you to run in the fight.

Afaik one possible attempt at “fixing” stability could be to add a small ICD to each stack of stability.

There was a hardcap to 10 second on the boon. Perma stab from 2 guards is a myth.

Rotating servers takes care of population and there’s no tactics (at least I dont think they’re there, Ive never seen them used)

In EU there is only one side competititve and thats the colour which includes SFR. In prime time there is one map played by all 3 sides (until the other 2 sides got enough rofl stomped). All other map copies are spawns from the SFR colour and therefore empty.
Instead of tactics EotM has it’s own mechanics like auto turrets, siege scorpions or stupid buffs.
Yes I see, it’s completle balanced.

Tobias, did you actually read the “5 things most wanted” thread?? There were alot of people who asked that the new gimmicks be removed or to revert to alpine pre HOT.

And I could already see the posts from all the guilds who spent hundreds or thousands of gold on the upgrade.

So? Tough.

Nobody reimbursed me jack kitten when HoT completely invalidated my three-man guild’s upgrades and removed us the ability to +5 objectives or build guild siege.

Fair point. Though you didn’t have to pay for the upgrades before. All you had to do was to actually play with your guild.

EotM is what started the K-train attitude that spread to WvW. I wish they would remove that and the WvW jumping puzzle (Obsidian Sanctum) as they are both a waste of resources that could be used to actually improve WvW.

the “K-train” was in wvw before EotM got introduced and what kind of resources is OS wasting? It’s an area used by guilds and roamers and there are people that like to do this kind of competitive jumping puzzles.

@Dayra: the map is relevant. It decides how well the game play of roamers, zergs and scouts is.
Frankly speaking, we lost on our server a fair bunch of our scouts, the roamers roaming now on EB and our public coms tagging up mostly on EB.
My experience on EotM is this map is mostly used for k-training. There are exceptions of course. It is one-sided (SFR colour) and has terrible mechnics.

Hm. If you ask 10 WvW-player what they want you get 15 incompatible opinions, including such stupid – but very popular 3 years ago – requests like new BLs with longer walk-ways. If you use EotM as the test-ground for 4hour matches with dynamic number of maps, then it’s time that this makes it into WvW. The voting is quite clear: EotM is played, WvW is dead.

During the last match-up we went into EotM several times during prime time. We found each time only 1 map that was played by at least 2 sides (we were red). After wiping the opposite zergs one or two times the enemy logged out.
All other maps were played by only one colour.

Would be much better if you could tell your favoured opponents to join you on a specific map-instance, wouldn’t it??

My point was it was empty and not played like you think it is played.

Edit: I think there is a big difference between EU and US EotM and we can’t compare each other.

During the last match-up we went into EotM several times during prime time. We found each time only 1 map that was played by at least 2 sides (we were red). After wiping the opposite zergs one or two times the enemy logged out.
All other maps were played by only one colour.

What's going on with WvW rewards?

A lot of people talking about getting leechers and other undesirables in WvWvW, but it is also true the other way.
Because the rewards in WvWvW are so lackluster, you have me, an absolute noob in PVE ruining it for everyone else in dungeons, raids, etc.
I do not know what I am doing in PVE, and I do not plan on becoming much better either, because it is just something I have to do to get the gear I need for WvWvW.
I do not want to invest in it.

While there are players coming from other RvR games most started GW2 with PvE. I would be happy if the game mode is getting fresh people and rewards would be a way to get those.
I do know players set foot into wvw soleyly because of map completion too and stayed after they got in touch with the server community. Though if you started your pve career on the wrong server (Vabbi for example, no harm intended) map completion on wvw maps was a realy painful adventure.

Haha… Dont talk about that when you dont know how kittening bonkers this matchup is. During the weekend we had periods of no commander on EB in the middle of primetime. Why? Because it wasnt needed. There where no enemies. Both Abba and Viz only nightcap. FSP has probably had 5x the commanders on borders.

regardless of being stacked or not, if you ignore a relevant part of the game mode you don’t need to wonder to drop down the ladder.

There are no full map zergs in T5 right now friend. We’re not talking overstacked T1 Piken Square here …

Does Capture Activity Drive Fight Activity?

TorquedSoul I think the only way to answer your question is if you can seperate
“where” and “when” each activity is happening. In my current matchup fight activity is
mainly on EB in prime time but capture activity is mainly later off-prime time and on the borders. There is no correlation between each other.

If you are outnumbered you wont hold SM for long….

The feedback on the beta was overwhelming and clear: this (and other) tactics have no place in WvW.

after several matches against bb it seems pretty clear to me that there are a lot of non-european but spanish-speaking ppl from all over the world that do most of the work for the bb server by hard nightcapping from 1 am to 6 am.

Nope. Wrong. Been on their ts. 99% of them are Spanish.

thanks for this advice but i think that lots of things have changed in the EU matchup since the last post (~8 months ago) ;-) well…i hope that your statements aren’t just based on the teamspeak flags that are displayed by single players (it can be changed easily, just check google^^) but rather hard facts.

i mean bb is the only pure national “spanish” server in the EU matchup that’s why i would expect a higher presence of ppl during the day (and maybe night) which would absolutely make sense to me. the only problem is that the extent of the amount of ppl doing the nightcapping compared to the whole day is just so extreme that i can’t imagine that “all of a sudden” spanish ppl wake up every night during the whole week.

- if i ask some ppl if this rumours are true about non-europeans doing the nightcapping job for bb and they cofirm this i believe this, at least a little bit xD (i know that they could lie to me as they are my enemies in wvw to annoy me )

nevertheless i think the amount of ppl that bb has during the night to sometimes make battlecrosses on two borders is a little bit sick – which doesn’t even happen on matchups with other top servers during the week (also international ones). so all i do is looking for an explanation based on real facts for this.

to sum it up: if it’s really the case that non-europeans do the job for bb or maybe also other servers, anet better think about doing something against this and maybe give them the opportunity to transfer the account to the continental place where they would belong to to make the EU or NA matchups fair.

-> however… if it’s the case that it’s just a giant army of european-spanish ppl during the night that wakes up after midnight to make hard ppt, forget about every single word i’ve written here

If you get outnumbered on a map, maybe the objectives you own on that outnumbered map should tick higher as long as you control it? Like 1.5 times higher? And also the walls/gates and NPC’s (guards, lords, supervisors) are scaled higher also. Idk if someone else has suggested this, someone probably has, but, still, that’s my suggestion.

night shift commander: “Guys we just capped whole map, lets leave so that single muppet trying to backcap it will let us tick even higher!”

The only big discussions on alpine was about orbs and bloodlust with it’s changes to the ruins/lake.

Forums will always be full of people asking for change, that’s kind of their point. But stop and ask yourself this, how much luck did you have going back and replaying a game you already played and left years ago. Sometimes you might have extended stays but more than likely you tire quickly since you already did that. Could be I am biased, WvW style game I played before this had 26 WvW style maps of varying terrain to fight across. After 5 years it hadn’t gotten stale yet. But each to their own in the long run. I also know that there are a lot of people that don’t partake on the forums.

Asking for a new map because it slowly gets old is totaly fine. But compare those threads you linked with those about the desert border.
I just need to look at my server. queues on EB (our focus before HoT was home border) and no queues on the borders. If a com wants to jump from EB to the borders he will lose half it’s squad. The players simply don’t like those maps.
Anet has to either modify them or remove them.

That’s not really the full truth now is it? Piken is notorious for having only 12 people on TS while rest of the 50 man blob just runs around without listening any orders, doing whatever they want. Even before HoT EB commanders didn’t move because they were afraid of getting stuck in the EB queue.

Uhm…Roy, Oni, Mind, etc… were tagging up mainly on a border and not on EB. Times changed.

WvW was already losing people because it was stale. Scraping the DBL and putting back in the ABL would just re-introduce something people were already tired of…

Exactly.

I guess not many people have been hanging in the forum long enough but before the HoT one of the most complained theme in WvW forum was how bad Alpine maps are, how we absolutely need new maps to bring more players into WvW.

It is abolutly clear that the majority of the players don’t like the new borders out of different reasons. They voted with their feet. The job from Anet is to figure out those reasons and going to fix them (terrain, chokepoints, barricades, events, upgrades, layout, etc…).
