Traits: 0/20/30/20/0
20-Practiced tolerance, and Furious retalliation
30-Shadows embrace, infusion of shadows or shadow protector, and shadows rejuvenation
20-For tier 1 adept trait use any of your preference. but for the master trait Hard to catch or pain response

Armor: PTV Gear w. Divinity, or Travelers runes.
Weapons: PTV or Zerker Dagger/Pistol—-Shortbow
Sigils- 1 being a bloodlust or perception any of your choosing, and the other what ever you’d like. Most likely Air sigil.
Trinkets- Cavaliers/Knights/PTV/or Zerker trinkets. -Any of your choosing.

If it’s out of range it’ll go on CD (4 secs) If you’re within range of a target and you don’t target it, it’ll count as a miss and go on the steal CD.

Every time you enter stealth you remove a condition. 3 secs later if still in stealth another condition is removed.

I only play Thief, and have over 3.1k hours. I think i’ve tested enough.

You know I really thought you knew what you were saying.. But as soon as I saw 2 condi’s removed when entering stealth everything became obsolete. You remove 1 condition when entering stealth every 3 secs.

most players would say L2P, because it seems like you get beat by alot of thieves.

Agreed, because the bonus distance the acquire with swiftness serves as a disadvantage to the players being chased, or having to chase. If it’s not the intended range, then it should be fixed. And i would even go as far as if the skill doesn’t connect then add a longer CD : i.e; RTL for Elementalists

Instead when a thief manage to kill an opponent in WvW, the opponent is for sure a PRO player that didn’t do any mistake but the thief is an OP noobish class that can win easily vs anyone right?

That said I found that first thief of the video being quite good, not the best I have seen but even the worst, simply the warrior outplayed him cos he knew what to do against a thief. Unfortunately a lot of people in this game don’t know how to use properly different classes that’s why they complain on the forum.

Back on Topic: nice video OP, we need more people like you that can prove things with facts and not only empty words

I don’t know what you’re trying to get at in the 1st paragraph. You obviously did not read the rest of the 1st page. Because in no means and way is a Thief an OP noobish (faceroll class). It takes skill to be a good Thief, and it take extraordinary skill to be a better one. And yes, the 1st Thief (who is part of this forum thread topic) was by far better than the 2nd. If you truly believe that it takes no skill to play a Thief (because that’s what i am inferring from what you said), then please tell me from your perspective what’re the easiest classes to play, and the most difficult classes to play. Because i already gave my opinion on the 1st page on the classes i think require more skill to play.

The thing is though majority of thiefs are or should be easy kills but there has been an increase of qq lately (even after thief has been nerfed) people saying “thiefs are so op there is no way to fight them nerf!!!!!”. I intent to prove those players wrong.

Most players are not as good as they think they are, so when a player or multiple players die to a thief its inconceivable that they still need to learn a few things. To them its obvious thief is most OP thing in the game.

Any class build to duel can deal with thiefs easy, it mostly comes down to player skill.
Also if people are dying to an exceptional thiefs unless they are exceptional themselves ofc they should get beaten by superior skill.

Same tier lvl of skill vs same tier lvl= a fair fight. Average vs Scrub= bad fight, and not worth putting on video. Bottom line of it. (No insult intended, i’m speaking in general)

~to digress.. I hate YouTube hero’s, because they highlight the fights where they fight up levels or bad(easy) outnumbered (usually) fights in general

I definitely consider myself an above the average thief player, not the best but easily above average. I was the first thief in the video and I messed up. So does everyone. Doesn’t make me an average player or a bad one.

Everyone just needs to take away from this video is that even if a good thief messes up against an average or good opponent then there is a pretty good chance they will die.

I apologize, I in no way meant to personally insult you, I didn’t foresee you being part of the thief community forums. But to my defense i actually was contemplating putting in, “Although the first thief was by far better than the 2nd thief you dueled” blah blah blah.. Please take no offense my friend.

The claim usually is though that average thieves are impossible to kill; they’re a no risk/skill class. Here he shows an average skill warrior taking down average skill thieves. (No insult intended toward the warrior or thieves shown in the video)

It takes skill to play a Thief correctly. In my personal opinion the classes that take skill to play are Thieves, Engineers, Elementalist, and more or less.. Ranger. Average Thieves against Average Warriors, there will always be a most predicted winner. And it’s usually not the class that can stealth (because it obviously makes the player invulnerable)..

rampagers is PVE only in my opinion. its not competitive enough for wvw/pvp so id go zerk first and get allt he best quality gear in that. good luck

Rampager is far from just solely pve. I’ve made it work for a succesful damage dealing hybrid capable build. (WvW)

1 second is so useless. 2 sec and I would use it sometimes. I would trade the 5 stack of vulnerability just to get another second on immobilize. How about it Arena? Let’s finally make Body Shot a semi-useful skill?

The 3 stacks of confusion gets applied quite frequently, and reliably. These stacks are just icing on the cake for the build.

But you’d sacrifice 30% bleed duration for these 4 runes and bleed is large portion of the damage for D/P. For 5 seconds of a 3-stack confusion.

You gain poison with the minor trait in deadly arts Serpents touch and When you go into the 1st tier of deadly arts you can choose the 1st tier trait of deadly arts called Potent poison which Adds 33% poison duration

But steal has a 35 second cooldown, and hence, application of poison and when you go into Deadly Arts you don’t much points left to reduce that cooldown. I like the Sigil of Doom suggestion though, combined with steal you could get a decent poison uptime.

I checked lotus poison last night. The weakness doesn’t stack with each charge out of 5 from spider venom. And the ICD is too long. I do not use sigil of doom.

The wiki does mention weakness doesn’t stack (duration) more then 5 times. But you pass up 5 × 4 seconds weakness when stacking poison from Spider Venom?

I’m on a 29.25 sec steal recharge, and yes I will pass it up because that’s 5 charges wasted on a skill that I thought would have stacked. it just didn’t feel right for me. So no Lotus poison for me. Sigil of doom would be good if you are into the swapping, I rarely swap to shortbow.

Isn’t anyone mixing Runes of Afflicted, Centaur and Krait for the +45% bleed duration?

If you expect bleed to be your only substance in a condi build. Then condi really isn’t for you my friend. (No disrespect intended).

So Perplexity has finally gotten what was foreseen along time ago. The CD. Perplex will now have 30sec ICD 6th bonus. QQer’s rejoice.

In my opinion it won’t do a thing, But i did actually change my spec around so that I accommodate my other damage dealing condition (poison). x4 perplex x2 Rata sum. Serpents touch is a magical trait. The 3 stacks of confusion is really all you need.

If they go OOC during 1v1. Don’t engage them again, just stealth and leave. They aren’t worth you time. That’s what I do to scrub warriors that have the Gaul to engage, and not back up their engagement. Don’t chase scrubs.

Having to delve so far into a line to get a venom trait that i want. Via Risidual venom t3 Deadly Arts. Would work wonders with Venom leech The life siphon would be quite something for venom builds.

I am all for the regeneration we get. Thieves I don’t know if you guys know can get quite a bit of regeneration boons from our traits. But that is just not enough to match up against protection booned opponents, that also apply burning at that.

Thieves Protection boon/Burning

I haven’t the slightest clue why this boon was taken from our shadow protector trait. We need that protection boon back. In a sense it is a bit unfair to give all classes access to protection and not a thief. Besides we did have access to it before they nerfed this trait centuries ago. Same with burning, Thieves also need access to the burning condi just like every other class. Am I wrong?

On another note, We should have a trait line devoted to solely Venoms/Stealth/Acrobatics/Power/Critical/Trickery. All these random throw in traits that don’t make sense where their at in our trait tree are tiresome to look at.

I am glad there are other people that notice this other than me. This most certainly frustrates me when i’m trying to chase a kitten GS warrior, and his CD’s are all reduced, and they are all basically all ready to go after they finish their chain “’get a way combo” I only have enough initiative for 3 infiltrator arrows, then I’m out of ini. The ini regen buff is well needed.

Just like the title says. Thank You Anet Devs for the feedback. I know it is hard to give us too much information, in fear of being mis-quoted. But thank you again for the input that you have given, and the light that you have shed on some of the major concerns we the Thief community have on the upcoming patch. Although there are some disagreements I too do have on the new game breaking Thief patch preview, I know you are doing this for the betterment of your game. I just hope we can stay in the loop, meaning, dev’s for every class. I know that was something you guys have been working on doing.

Funny things people say about Thieves

Well 2 Heartseekers can be performed while in stealth. It’s a technique i called the “Ninja strike”. I showed Coloxeus, and he put it in his thief tricks and tips YouTube video(Go check it out). It’s all about timing. Perform the first HS, then right before the BP runs out perform the 2nd stealthed HS. All about timing
- This trick really hurts when you are bursty, and it really helps when you are fighting mesmers, when you need to stall for time to re-adjust yourself, and find the real one.

3 Heartseekers while stealthed isn’t that impossible, it would need my Ninja strike, and Blinding powder to succeed in that 3 HS attempt. But i highly doubt this QQ’er knew what he was talking about.

The immobilize is really crappy. Slow bolo projectile that is thrown at your target, which can easily be dodged. And When you’re chasing a target they are more than likely always out of range. I’m doubting the 900 range skill tip. I would believe 600 range

So looks like it was true. Body shot #2 P/X skill causes an immobilize for 1.25 of a second for 4 initiative. Could be useful with high condition duration. I’m not giving up on the skill. I like it. We still got our gap closer. It’s just that instead of us closing the gap and moving towards them, they will be stuck in place.

Which part of Precision/toughness/vitality bursts ? Precision wont do any good ( at least in terms of burst damage) w/o power and crit damage. Soldiers stat spread would probablly do better then this.

This meta would be a pretty good spec for Burst builds. So what I was thinking was if Anet could you at least have this stat setup in your mind creating an armor set containing these stats?

There should not be a meta that in more cases than others completely obliterate other builds. The current meta right now for WvW is conditions. And while yes condi meta is fun to play there needs another armor stat to keep the worlds in balance. Precision, toughness, vitality (burst) vs (condi) Condition, toughness, vitality. Every build needs another build to counteract it.. The burst stats would be a very good contender. It would be a very good meta vs meta spice for gw2.

Anyone agree with the stat selection? Any disagreements?

Can you explain this more clearly?

You interrupt something that has multiple attacks to get your 5-8 stacks?

For instance in the video when ever coloxeus backstabbed me, I automatically disappeared. 1. That was from my proc’d instinctual response via trickery tree. So when he continued his #1 chain i used my steal skill(interrupted his chain#1), and applied 5-8 stacks of confusion. I say 5 to 8 because 5 is the amount of confusion that is applied via 6th skill bonus on interrupt, 3 stacks of confusion are given via 4th skill bonus.(20% chance) So if my lucky was fine, then i’d apply 8 stacks, on his and my opener.

My guess is that it’ll be too strong against classes that don’t have decent mobility, and too weak against classes that can just shrug it off (warriors with 98% immob reduction for example).

Still I look forward to trying it, but I still think the vuln stacking should be move to unload and replaced with something else. Maybe make body shot cause immob and be a blast finisher and call it a day.

I would wish the same for unload. Slightly like the rangers rapid fire shot or what ever the channeled ability is that applies vulnerability. That would be a lot more convenient, and useful.

Put up some nice video clips, lets see how you play it ?

Probably I play it poorly; I am not very experienced in WvW yet, only just hit Recruit recently. Also, I don’t have video recording capability at the moment in any case.

But basically I will gap-close with Steal (which sticks at least three conditions), and try to get a panic-interrupt out of someone with Pistol Whip. I have Long Reach traited, and tend to approach from blind spots, so this works most of the time. I’ll use Headshot if I have to (i.e. someone created distance, or I need something that comes out faster), but generally avoid it because the damage is garbage.

A successful initiation puts 8 stacks of Confusion on the target (PW has nine hits, it nearly always procs the on-hit Confusion as well), and from there it depends on the situation. I’ve got enough juice for a few more PWs, there’s Black Powder if I have to fight in melee with autoattacks, and Shadowstep on the 2-slot can be used to either chase or engage/disengage.

I’ve started running with Tripwire lately, since it’s pretty easy to get someone to hit it, and getting knocked down for 3s in melee range means that you’re eating a whole bunch of damage in a short period of time. I’ll use Skale when I don’t use Tripwire, as a condition-clogger. Dagger Storm is my chosen Elite, as it gives me a way to stick some bleeds/cripples if I need to.

Since I have a buddy, usually we can take out small groups between the two of us. We’ll generally win 2v2s unless we are out-matched skillwise, and loners have no chance.

I will be looking forward to seeing the build mate.

I had some good WvW roaming success over the weekend (with a P/D partner) running Perplexity runes with S/P, mostly Carrion gear, and 20/0/20/0/30 traits. I may slide SA up to 25 or 30 if I can find a good way to replace the Power and Condition duration from DA.

It was nice to have the chasedown options of a stun and a Shadowstep. Towards the end I started using Tripwire, just to be a kitten. Keeping my health up could sometimes be a problem, but the ability to take people down quickly was very good. It’s quite amazing how many people will panic-spam and give me free interrupts with Pistol Whip. I think that survival will improve as I learn to use the defensive tools of S/P properly.

I had one particularly funny sequence: some poor noob got away from me clean, but didn’t know what Confusion was, and helped to down himself by using abilities. Whoops.
