I am getting confused now. So I spent my proof of heroics on the scrolls. So i currently have like 11 stacks of notarized scrolls in my inventory. Since they said Proof of heroics won’t be needed anymore, was it a smart move to do so?

I was/am under the impression that on day 1, you can use those notarized scrolls to gain hero points? Currently I have 364 unspent hero points on my Thief, will that be enough for next expansion?

Proofs will still be used the same way they are now, we just wont be able to use them for PoF items. I believe you can also exchange scrolls back for proofs. I think any excess hero points you have on a character should still be useable to unlock the new elite specs.

Well, nothing really is confirmed right now, so everything is like speculation, but I just hope I’d be able to get my proofs back, because then these 11 stacks of scrolls will just be staring at me telling me im an idiot everyday, and soulbound to my 1 toon as well.

Armor repair has no purpose anymore

What I feel should happen is put the cost of repair back, and every time you die you lose a % of stats. It shouldn’t just be when you armor is completely broken you lose the stats.

The game play and skill level that i watched from his stream wasn’t that of any special caliber (Using DE Rifle), whereas Caed, your game play was particularly strategic and map aware, although you took a hiatus from the game for 2 years, and are just as new to the spec as the rest of us. Deadeye most certainly has it’s flaws, but I would not say it was the worst class spec to be created.

The ammunition system wasn’t implemented to counteract the ability to spam the skills. So having to kneel which is a special ability for Deadeye to grant us better damage giving skills doesn’t make sense, at most reduce initiative cost to 1. Because when we kneel we barely have enough initiative to attack and if needed skill 4 to get out of harms way, and then go back into a kneel which will cost even more initiative. What if people don’t take the trickery trait line? 1 kneel basically take up half their initiative.

Tl;dr We either need to reduce initiative count to 1, or increase initiative regeneration

I’m pretty sure kneel already have an initiative cost of one. If not then you treated it to give you stealth, that’s a choice you made. I played deadeye without stealth and I had plenty of initiative to burst in kneeled mode.

I think we just need to get used to the kneel thing, it’s a trade I’m ready to have. But I join your opinion on most of your other points. Especially the “no fire after teleport thing” this is really annoying….

I haven’t the slightest idea where I got the high initiative cost from. I was so convinced too. I must’ve been fast cast subconsciously pressing kneel while hitting something else without thinking. And I always assumed It drained more intiative. I guess I am my own culprit. Wow. I feel dumb. Yeeshhh haha.

But yes the other points still apply (:

I guess you were playing with shadow art. You went with silent scope ( which make kneel cost 4 initiative ). You would do something like mark & kneel then death’s jugment ( 6 init ). That would explain the high init cost.

I understand why people would go for the stealth sniper route, but the cost for kneel + #4 with that set up is more than black powder + HS without the utility….

Yes that explains It! Oh wow! Jesus. Shadow arts DE is such a pain. Although I found a way to permanently stealth rotate with initiative to spare. But I digress.

The problems that DE currently have I certainly hope ANET takes them into account

Thanks my man I appreciate the love. Yeah EU was a pain, because everyone would just be able to get their attacks off first, and i’d be stuck like .5-1sec behind them. EU was great though, the caliber of the various amount of skill there is limitless.

Good gameplay as always. Was fun being against you in some of our server matchups some time ago, despite none of it making it into the footage – pretty much always came down to who got the jump on the other one first lol.

Admittedly you and your OH pistol stealth caught me wildly off guard a few times more than I think I caught you :P

This video is awesome. I loved the use of shadow step to setup the one shot backstab. You also switched to staff at the right moments, which I thought was great. I’ve been using a staff and d/p setup in wvw roaming lately and it’s been a blast. I wish it worked for pvp, but I find that pvp requires sb, so I run different setups there.

Thanks for the love bro ! I really appreciate it. And yes unfortunately the pace and terrain of PvP is really fast, so use of anything else other than D/P— SB really is ill-advised and un-recommended. Although DE Rifle looks to bring some ranged cover support soon to come. So in that aspect, DE looks semi promising. Rifle—SB

My thought’s and opinion on what I feel like some of the flaws are with D.E. Feel free to chip in any thoughts, or opinions.

Clunky

Mark cast time is too slow

Cannot always visually see when you are kneeling- Should change color of skill icon when Kneeling to Blue. (Saw suggestion on reddit), and keep red skill icon while standing.

*We have 3 tells for D.E Spec.—— 1.) Deaths Judgement Reveal 2.) F1 Steal Skill (Mark) 3.) Death’s Judgement Laser —- If a Warrior’s gunflame and Killshot have no laser why is a Thief any different since we get revealed

We are locked in Kneel and are unable to get out of the animation until tediously pressing 5 again

Kneel cost initiative – If we are on an ammunition system for Skill 5, why do we need to spend initiative

Malice regeneration slow

Steal Skills are under powered, especially mesmer steal skill

When shadowstepping towards a target while casting D.J occasionally will have a problem where nothing fires

Recycled utilites- Literally have 2 blinding powders, and 2 shadow steps (1 of which being a lesser version of shadow step, with no stun break and condi removal)

Mark needs line of sight- Like what?

You literally queue ranked when everyone’s trying builds so everyone’s clueless, you don’t duel any current meta build (that you even know off since you say you been gone for two years) and you say you can 1v1 anything. I dont know how many times I counted that you would have been obliterated from the whole game by a normal DRD thief/DH/Rev/Condi S/D thief hell even core D/P thief would have done so.

But yeah, you can basically 1v1 everything when they die out of boredom and logs out.

I’ll happily be proven wrong when monthly AT comes up after expac launch and we’ll see if there’s any successful DE in any top team, I know I won’t be playing one but I’ll defo fool around with it in ranked

Dawg he’s literally just Messing around with the spec. Why’re you so defensive about this. Obviously DrD is superior to DE in almost every situation. Homie just got back from 2 years, he’s having fun. Caed says he’ll obliterate anything all the time, that’s his personality. But I do have to say caed was playing DE effectively how a DE should be played, from leverage, and out of harms-way, and +1 when needed he showcased it pretty nicely.

There would be no counterplay if they couldn’t see the mark.

Given the fact the snipe will already likely have a > 1.0 coefficient, we’re looking at a legitimate sniper build attacking for >20k at 1500 while removing boons, applying conditions, and dealing damage.

While being reflected back at you or damage absorbed in the process while giving this mark.

I find Thief works pretty well underwater and is competitive with most other builds, unless it a ranger.

Thief is one of the best underwater, when played correctly, but i still can’t shy away from the utility drought that Thief has been victim to for 4 years.

I would like to propose a suggestion in terms of Deadeye’s Mark. Our new F1 ability. I see the concept anet was going for, but I just can’t wholeheartedly agree with the final outcome, because giving your enemy a heads up or “tell” goes against all that a Thief is and is supposed to be. We’re Sly, Sneaky, and Stealthy.

Why would we want our enemies to know when we have them marked and targeted?
In the real world why would ANYONE have someone in their scope, and yell to their mark “Hey I’ve got you targeted so becareful!” If you are big game hunting, or even just deer hunting, why would you stand up flaring your arms in your little deer hunting barrack, then take a shot, in hope of the deer being so kind as to stay still while you murder it. (If it didn’t run away already from the flaring of the arms)

Like i said, I understand the concept, but I feel as though, it will be detrimental to Deadeye thieves in the long run, in terms of WvW, and PvP (If you just so happen to be so daring in PvP). I propose that the DeadEye Mark remain as is, but only be visible to the User casting the skill. We can think of the mark in terms of real life, as a Red Dot gun upgrade on someone’s head. I also like to think of the mark as a contract. Basically putting a bounty on someone’s head, and the person not knowing they’re being hunted.

I know this suggestion has probably been floating around people’s head and probably been dragged around the idea and discussion table at Arena Net, so I decided to articulate the thought and solution that’s on everyone’s mind. I implore you Anet to reconsider this nuisance of a mark. Especially in the midst of this new OP Spellbreaker elite spec and the many other Promising ones.

Underwater is kinda ridiculous as a Thief.

People think we can dodge for days on land? Boy, they haven’t even seen us swim have they? Hah!

I am at peace when I am in the water. Enemies always think they have the upper hand. But nope in the water is where a Thief excels with skills 1-5.

I think our weapons and utilities are pretty strong underwater, especially scorpion wire and basilik. If you can keep getting to Shadow Assault after your burst and during theirs and have both rise and sink keys bound you should feel pretty safe down there. I still fear mesmers underwater though.

To be completely honest. I love underwater fights. And that’s solely due to spear 5 evasion, Roll for intiative, Withdraw heal, and Steal (With trickery line for 3 intiative on steal). I feel completely safe, and confident in the water, in terms of our 1-5 abilities. It’s DeadEye’s utilities that I hope to see reliability with.

Side note: I have a clip of me 2v1ing and engineer and necro underwater via spear 5, and successfully evading and swimming away from a group of 5-6 chasing me in water. DA/TR/DD

Not every other class, take a look at revenant underwater, they have no utilitys at all, it’s a joke really, but yeah I hope to not see that repeated with deadeye.

Yeah, Rev is pretty much a joke underwater, I actually didn’t really consider them. I forgot to think about them. But yes, nonetheless i really hope we get useful utilities !

DeadEye is great and all, but lets talk about the underwater.

Anet you better have given us actual USEFUL utilities for this spec underwater.

It’s bad enough every other class has more utility options underwater, not to mention mesmer and engineer having more stealth and utility underwater. But i digress..

New PvP change- Choking Gas

Nobody made a thread about it that I can see. So here it is. What are your thoughts on this new change?

Choking Gas: The daze duration of this skill has been increased from 0.5 seconds to 1 second. Poison duration has been increased from 2 seconds to 3 seconds. Daze interval has been increased from 1 second to 4 seconds. All of these changes affect PvP only.
We felt that a skill that provides a pulsing AoE daze to such a large area was too strong in PvP. It allowed coordinated players to completely control downed-state situations within the area of effect. By limiting the daze to once per cast, it still allows for the AoE daze but makes the skill significantly less oppressive.

I just feel like this is just another reason for me not to play PvP as often, and at a serious level. While I agree there should be an increase in the Daze Interval, jumping 1-4 seconds (0-100 Real Quick) in my opinion was un-just. maybe 1.5 at max 2 second interval would be justifiable. I know the role for Thief in PvP is to Decap and +1. But when you’re trying to +1 and give pressured support to your team in a 3v2 situation (Via Choking Gas on Cap circle) every bit of skill disorientation helps. But that’s my opinion.

How do you guys feel? Was the 1-4 seconds necessary?

Edit: I also recognize their concern regarding downstate pressure using choking gas, and I agree to an extent, however I am still reluctant with the 3 second increase.

Why Remove World Buffs

Just like the title explained. Why remove it.

The extra HP you got from Robust % made or broke builds. If you plan to implement something just to take it away in the future, why go through with it at all. Same with the guard stacks (Extra power and Vitality for every stack.)

Will there be any other options on HP increases via World buffs? (minus ruin buffs)

Your Daredevil should have plenty of HP without it

Oh I have plenty of HP, my daredevil is fine and those with my build are fine. I am not advocating for myself, I am advocating for those with too low of an HP pool at this point in time since the removal of the mists.

Why Remove World Buffs

Just like the title explained. Why remove it.

The extra HP you got from Robust % made or broke builds. If you plan to implement something just to take it away in the future, why go through with it at all. Same with the guard stacks (Extra power and Vitality for every stack.)

Will there be any other options on HP increases via World buffs? (minus ruin buffs)

Making a thief on EU

I am east coast of US. I can say while on my stay in EU, i did encounter some latency problems, but nothing too much to manage. Although you will experience some thief v thief fights will be in favor of the opponent. Their ping will always be better. I’ve had my share of grief from that. You should be around 160-190 ping comfortably. If you’re lower, than even better.

I get tired of people complaining before things even happen, thus swaying the judgement of ANET. I do remember ANET explicitly saying that they make something really over powered first, and nerf afterwards as needed. Just let things take their course. Elite specs will always be overpowered at first, If you remember the first elite specializations.

Okay I am really glad i am not going insane as well. SAME problem. NVIDIA not finding Gw2 client, and my Locales folder is completely empty. I re-installed. Didn’t solve issue.

I never said I wanted to play a different role, I said the class needs to have a defined role in the first place.

Then I provided examples to you of what a role is.

To repeat myself for the last time, standing on a point and decapping it is not a role, it is an action. I can decap a point and 1v1 on a warrior. Refer to the previous post. And that being said, neither WvW or PVE have anything to decap.

You never mentioned a game mode so i just gave all of them.

As far as a role goes, saying decapping isn’t a role is like saying being a healer isn’t a role (“healing isn’t a role, it’s an action”) It literally is one of the thief’s main roles. Yes, you can decap on a warrior, just like you can “heal” on an engi, but that doesn’t mean that’s its best role. Thief is the best at filling that role. You’re making it sound like a thief has nothing to offer to a team, which simply isn’t true.

Maybe changing the word “Role” to “job” is better to understand in all contexts. A thief’s main job primarily for High tiered PvP purposes is to Decap, and +1. All other classes have this same Job that they can actively do or not do by their choosing. A Thief can just perform this job a little better than other classes.

both class’s above are designed to be in your face though, only DH can pull/port but the class it self has been our counter since day 1. i personally think it will be silly to have AS unblock, especially when we can port 2400 range do 18k dmg in a second then port back again.

Well if not AS. Then our Bassi. Venom back to 2 stacks. It was reverted back to 1 for some unprecedented random reason. But I still personally like the AS suggestion still.

No lie, triple unblockable attack signet D/D would be kinda crazy OP if given that change to AS.

Warriors and DH’s are OP as it is. I hate bringing other classes in Thief thread in comparison, but they’re able to have unblockables (Signet of Might in conjunction with Killshot, Gunflame, or Literally anything) Vs. a Thief Using Bandits Defense with no Evasion frame available, or DH with their Test of Faith trap, or spear of justice that can inflict an intense burning sensation in my No-no area.

Don’t get me wrong i ALSO agree it will be a bit OP, while running a high burst build, and sitting in stealth for that perfect 1 shot moment on a DH or someone in general. But the amount of passives in the game like a ranger’s Ward of protection or whatever it’s called that glances and applies weakness while bursting within a certain range. I’m just saying that everyone’s passive abilities seem to be working really well to keep them alive to negate a Thief’s initial burst Steal attempt. (As you know from my montages, I open and close with a 1 shot).

But if not the assassin signet 3 unblockable hits, then at least roll back that bassi + venom in general buff. Double Unblockable Bassi Venom.

Minus the whole argument for finding a role for Thief. Your suggestion is actually pretty interesting to propose.

Assassin Signet: I’m not sure if it was fixed or not, but the passive did more damage than the active at one point in time, or maybe even currently. Will need to check. But changing the pointless 5 increased damage attacks to Unblockables. Now that would allow for more build diversity, It would reduce evasion spam, and more theory-crafting would be involved. I actually really like that idea. But instead of 5 attacks(Since Thief A.A is fast), maybe 2 or 3. I think that is a good trade-off due to the active remaining increased power.

And in terms of the unused traits. You’d have to specify which tree line. Because that would be a pretty interesting to see where you’d put that.
