What we need is our blasted 1500 range steal trait back (Long reach).

Like.. Why was it removed. At All.

And a good majority of you guys are talking about combining utility skills, and Sword #2’s to fulfill that 1200 range OP was requesting, but are not realizing you guys are primarily talking and advocating for WvW/PvP (Not so much PvP) What about PvE. For instance Jormag. Why should we be the only class that cant hit Jormag from the range everyone else hits him with, instead we need to go into the frostbite, and get a couple hits in from a closer range and then cleanse and repeat.(That’s if we don’t want to use the charrzooka gun, or what ever it’s called). There is other PvE content as well, where Thief falls short in range.

I’m no where near an expert in PvE, or even like it in general. But When you think about the proposal, you need to bring into account all game modes, and all types of scenarios.

Thieves either get nerfed, or forgotten in each balance.

Long Reach was made baseline in 2015 ._.

It’s mostly a balance concern with damage + mobility + stealth. Even the druid with its fairly low base weapon damage is a kiting nightmare for most people given its mobility and stealth access. It’d be way too much on the thief without definitive drawbacks.

Frankly, attacking Jormag isn’t even supposed to really happen. P/P bursts also work well, particularly with Dash’s long-distance evade.

That was the whole point of my elite spec proposal, but oh well :\

Long Reach was 1500 Range, not 1200. The 1200 is baseline.

And would you mind explaining more in depth how OP a mere 1200 range on Shortbow AA and P/P AA would be for the game, for all game types, not solely WvW, or 1v1 mindset. I’m totally fine with P/P #3 Unload not having 1200 range, I know that would be problematic.

As the most mobile profession with access to stealth on demand, I think 1200 range would make us overpowered. Also, if it happened, it would then just lead to annoying nerfs later on that probably mess up our current builds.

If I’m not mistaken it was redacted because people were stealthing on S/P and one-shotting others with P/W. Mind you, P/W had a much higher coefficient at the time, and Quickness was 100%. Also very redundant with HS. I can see it actually working with S/P without issue, though; the gap-increase enables a safe return/retreat location to combo into IS without needing to physically walk, making things quicker. Still, it doesn’t solve or really help woes with other kits. It likely ends up making things more difficult if you were going to try and fix everything afterwards.

The big follow-up regarding HS as well is that it begs the question of what to replace it with. It can’t really be utility, because D/P already has so much, and D/D has so much low-function utility, nor can it really be damage… because then D/P also gets overloaded between the AA, backstab, Shadowshot, and this new skill. Not to mention then D/x is likely also out of a gap close at that point, which is pretty huge.

Without a big rework to a lot of the skills in general, this idea may contradict too much in the game already. Not so much out of overpowered-ness issues, but because of it further invalidating other kits indirectly.

Granted, touching any weapon skills on the thief right now is mostly going to require the same treatment.

I’m glad I got your input. Yeah S/P definitely did have an advantage while running with the functioned #4 skill at the time. Yeah P.W + quickness was literally a 1 shot..( oh the memories). And now that you put it into perspective, I can see how certain Thief sets would be over powered, with that much utlity and DPS in one set. But all i can really think about it comparing that OP’ness to a revenant, or zerker warrior. There’s literally little to no sacrifices that need to be made for those classes to prosper. But you could rebuttal and say i’m going off topic and talking about the class/specialization instead of the weapon sets themselves.. I typed up a whole argument, but just deleted it. It would just get into a (this class is OP, with counter arguments about why they’re not) kind of thread.

Headshot, you mean.
I can see how it’s useful for P/P, but for S/P and D/P it’d work rather counteractive in my opinion. As melee oriented sets they may often not benefit of being pushed backwards by a skill that sees a lot of use (regardless of Pulmonary Impact, plenty of skills require interrupting), I know I’d get annoyed real quick in PvP, lol.
So unless they could make it so that it only works for P/P, I’d be against the idea.

Don’t get confused. I don’t know if you played beta. But skill 4 was formally known as blackpowder, while skill 5 was headshot.

But while I see your point in how it could potentially be counter active, I still believe there will be a lot of new skill development and rotations that could go form, although it would be heavy on initiative. I could give you examples of rotations for each weapon set, if you cannot visually or mentally think of the scenarios.

Let’s not all forget that back in the day of beta demo’s P/P, D/P, S/P Skill 4 (Blackpowder) used to have a leap backwards and it was an evade.

I want to make a petition to bring that back, to revitalize the x/p lovers out there. It did very good for mobility purposes and made game play with X/P less clunky. I feel as though now with the new specialization , P/P thieves will have an easier time fighting, moving, maneuvering out of danger and harms way. Not just stand in place and cast 3. Or bound+BP+ unload (sneak attack) with such mundane redundancy.

I would like ANET to seriously consider bringing back the leap backwards on (current)skill 4 , while maintaining (current) black powders skill function. Even if you take away the evade frame from skill 4, the leap backwards would still be really attractive to bring back.

Thoughts people?

Death of Ghost Thief

Anet can u give back the ghost trappers their stealth? Not our fault people suck against them. People whining because they cant kill them need to get good. I run a perm stealth theif in pvp and now i cant because people whining about notbeing able to kill them. in that case, you will take away engi gyro for stomping in down state right? take away grave digger OP damage from necros, warriors with that OP stun etc,. I mean, people complaining about not being able to take on trapper theifs is the exact same of what i am saying about other toons that i have that cant take on other classes becuase theyre too OP. people can whine just like I am but we did this work for our theifs and we get screwed.

Pretty sure you copied/pasted most of this from your WvW comment.

Knowing you play this build makes all the more sense. As someone once said, onlyu those that play it will argue it. To also quote my WvW post vs yours, this build is Toxic to WvW and in shed of this new light, its also toxic to the already toxic PvP. (Kinda funny actually as in the WvW thread, I pointed out your PvP toxicity before I saw this thread…nailed it)

I admit I played GT in WvW as a gimmick for a small period of time, got boring fast and learned to play a real build. A lot more satisfaction and pride downing someone using a real build than a fake gimmick one (inb4, my mallyx rev loves playing with ghost teefs, small effort, big payoff…tip for those that are looking for a nice counter play).

All this means is that you can either a.) Adapt and tweak the build or change it entirely, or b.) could complain on multiple forums. Imo learning to play a real build would be more rewarding as a player. If you need build ideas, look me up. I am maining a teef and can delete most builds pretty quick. Ill also help spar/practice until you get good.

OK but they have trapper runes with the 6th rune giving stealth for 2 seconds when laying a trap, therefore if i am fighting in wvw or pvp and i lay a trap i expect to get my stealth, due to the runes giving me it. It’s not my fault people condiser GT always in wvw, there is pvp as well. Or hell in PVE if we use it there too. People whine and kitten too much because they cant fight. gotta make fighting a GT fair. OMG get over yourself quit your kittening and get good. kitten

But why are you even arguing for a Ghost Thief build?, and using “Get good” in the same argument? I’m serious trying to understand. Are you trolling or something? There are ways to counter GT build. But who has the time, energy, and supply count to always be prepared for one. (reveal trap)

Death of Ghost Thief

I know for a fact nobody really cares that this died, besides the Ghost Thieves themselves.

Who are probably going to complain that they spent countless hours and money PvEing and upgrading gear and trinkets to ascended all for their precious build to be ripped apart. But does anyone really care in the end honestly? Was Ghost Thief healthy for each game type? What benefit did it truly serve, other than succeeding in being a menace to people.

I’ve never had much of a problem with G.T’s (Ghost thieves) because when ever you encounter a GT just condi cleanse and run to water, their build ends or is extremely limited while in water, and is basically just a regular condi thief in water, with limited stealth abilities, even when traited.

What I find concerning is now there is a problem in the WvW thread talking about “Fast stomping” and how it should be removed or nerfed. How many more things does a Thief need to be given just to be taken away at a later date? In terms of the traps I would “Up” the damage by alittle for compensation.

Thoughts?

In WvW there are a half dozen thieves that can beat me consistently but I haven’t seen any of them in a long time. The best thief in our guild doesn’t play any longer. The BLNT/Hunt fellow is a strong player and clipped me a couple times last night but had to do it with numbers.

At the end of the day what is the criteria for best in WvW? I am a strong dueler but I run a thief buster build. If I were locked into a D/P stealth build, most of the better players would tear me apart. If it is kittening off an entire server, Pink probably owns that one.

BLNT/HUNT Thief is Me. lol

How can you push more damage than in your previous vid? Most damage I gave from backstab is just shy of 13k.

It was just the Ele was most likely full Zerker, Scholar rune, full zerker trinkets, etc. I can provide you the link to the backstab. You can see that I didn’t have any former buffs or might stack on me either.

Like I said before Acro can serve to provide near God like evasion in the water, I’m DA, and i was just doing it for Luls, plus I’m very comfortable fighting anything in the water, including a ranger. I’ve learned to get comfortable on land and sea.

How’d you even get downed underwater? Just gotta rotate spear 5 and dodges until their zerg gets bored and leaves you alone!

unless you run acro, i would like you to show us how you are able to use #5 long enough for a zerg to get bored lol. also most of the time you’re in the water is because you are escaping with low inative in the first place. what i like to do is have roll for inative, spear gun #3 then #5.

I can assure you that you don’t need to be Acro to be able to pull off a successful evasion spam from a Zerg, although! Acro does help ALOT better, to troll more. I have a multiple clips of me doing outnumbered in water. 2v1, 3v1. I will Post later on today of a 5-6 man hunting me down. 2 min video of them Trying to kill me all whilst I’m evading 70% of their attacks. I still managed to down their Thief twice in the water too. It was a DH, Thief, and 3 or 4 others. I will Post later on today , need to get to class now ): was going to leave it for my montage but I’ll display it today

HAHA Oh trust me man. I’ve got a video of me being chased by 5 people underwater I may even show that as bloopers in my next montage it was funny, they couldn’t kill me. But the one time i was killed, I downed a guy underwater, and then a good ole DH sniped me from land, and i was unable to finish off my downed foe while I myself was in downstate, because number 1. I was to kitten slow to swim to him, and the stuff we throw at them aint even worth throwing (auto attack), and not to mention a KICK (number 2 downed ability) like. what. Who ever designed the underwater skills for Thief needs to re-evaluate.

I still use my variation of this build (dash instead of bound and P/P instead of SB) and Ive one shot lots (usually 2/3 shot things). Very strong and consumables play a huge part in it.

Yeah man, The Food is one of the key components to how and why I hit so hard. And in my next montage(Coming soon), You’ll see me Backstab a foe for 17k (1shot) and spike him whilst I engage into their mini zerg. EU has been good to me, and I’ve already accumulated 60+ clips worth of footage.

EU is that bad in WvW?

No, EU is a ton better than NA Skill, and Tactics wise, everyone knows this. It was just an unfortunate circumstance the foe was in. He was full Health as well, you guys will see soon enough. I have 17ks, 15ks, 14k, 13k clips to showcase. My previous montage only showcased 10-12k stabs. I had to improve. And of course there are plenty of Outnumbered footage as well.

What server did you switch too?

I Transferred to Blacktide with Kiritsugu. I guess Blacktide is paired to Piken Square. So I am Piken. Fought some very good players from Zen. FSP and Riverside was a treat. Now we are t3, and matched with Gandaara and Kodash. Very good roaming in EU, roaming fights are plentiful.

VAULT is broken !

Hello, Wanted to write it under Bug section, but not sure.

I don’t know what Anet did with Staff 5 skill but, its completely broken. Cast animation is slow motion, but not always. also:
Bug: you can’t swap weapon while casting vault. (there is not any skill ingame, that doesn’t let you swap weapon while casting it)
Bug 2: It’s not always hit targets in area. I’ve experienced that in high ping it casts very slow motion and sometimes doesn’t hit enemies on target area.
Bug 3: Sometimes, when you target far, you still casting skill in place you stand.

Skill animation, movement and hit time is always different, I have no idea if it caused by ping or distance.

I am main thief after 1st day installed game and please, don’t ruin my gameplay. Vault was always my favorite skill (I use staff only in Openworld/Raids) There was nothing wrong with this skill, but now its not even worth to use for me.

I have experienced your “Bug 2 and 3” The weapon swapping in my opinion i found no point in that “Fix”. But not my place to mention on it. I recorded a fight with a mesmer on my short term stay in EU, and experienced me vaulting in place although I clicked to go a distance. Maybe it had something to do with me dodging and then trying to vault to to Quickly.

And my ping here in EU isn’t the best, so i do experience the shortened vaults, from time to time. So i can concur

Larcenous Strike + Steal: Since Flanking strike doesn’t actually have to hit the target to give access to the chain skill, you can use it as an evade. Then precast LS and steal as the cast is about to hit.

While D/P and in Stealth: Shadow Shot -> (Dodge ->) About Face key (keybind R for me) -> Backstab+Steal -> Heartseeker
This is when they are facing you, and you need to get behind them for the Backstab. Shadow Shots bullet part doesn’t do damage so it doesn’t break stealth but you need to be dodging through the target as the projectile hits so the timing is of critical importance.
If you are not dodging at the right time, you will not go through your opponent and Shadow Shots dagger attack will commence, breaking your stealth.
That’s the hard part, now just turn around and assault your target with all you’ve got. Thieves certainly can’t 1-shot kill technically but it appears like that because the attacks happen in such a quick succession that there’s practically no difference.

The simpler rotation for when you’re alrdy behind your target is seen in Aikijin video, so I won’t comment on that further. (to be fair, this might’ve been in there as well, I didn’t watch all of it)

The Simple rotation is get behind the foe’s back and stab. There really is nothing to complex or complicated about it. Generally you will always see me with 12+ stacks of Lead attacks, with the Bounding Dodger damage modifier active as well. No shadowshot stuff needed.

Thief is designed to be a solo roaming class – if you go one on one with a good thief in WvW you should expect to die.

They don’t need to be good. Therein lies the problem.

Seems as though you’ve been best’ed by a Thief, Therein lies the problem with that post. If you believe playing a Thief is as easy as you make it out to be then I tip my hat off to you sir.

It was pretty funny trading back and forth yesterday, though. Pretty much came down to who got the jump on who every time we crossed paths.

“Man that guy really hurts” -> Friends List -> “Oh it’s gotta be Aiki.”

I told you I was lagging all throughout those encounters ;p. But it was pretty funny indeed. I recorded the 1 shot clip where you didn’t see me coming at all, and were confused on how you didn’t see me coming. xD

Yeah my man most definitely. The build isn’t too complex, just maxing out and taking advantage of all the damage modifiers available to Thief. Although expensive to maintain. It does offer a suitable range of damage.

So while running your build I ran into a reaper and mesmer at ogres, decided to fight the reaper first, but then I realized I should of stole into the mes to gain that sweet all buff ability. When I did I walked right into a reveal trap, and then I deleted them for revealing me ;D.

Haha, So Basically RIP them. You deleted them, because they gave you an extra 200 power for being revealed. Classic. I’m glad you are enjoying the build !

Anyone that gets hit by basilisk and has no stun breaks, deserves to die. I have no idea how you’re pulling 10k backstabs off too, some funky signet build? Might stacking? Full bloodlust stacks?

10k backstabs is pretty low…. Although I haven’t played much power thief lately but I clearly remember CnD hitting for 7k and backstab follow up is 17k+ on a Mes…. (I only fight light classes with my power thief lol)

I’m gonna have to play it again once my Modem is delivered, surely Thieves weren’t nerfed that hard?

If I remember correctly it was sometime early last year, you don’t see them hit that high anymore, they even used to go 20k+

Yes, but not like they once were, even though it can still reach pretty high like in your vids.

Yes those were the glory days. When Mug Trait was the thing that downed foes, not our backstab. The backstab was complimentary. Once Legendary Armor comes out, I’ll see what kind of numbers I get. And at that point new sigils would be available, since they are introducing them in PvP first.

Minus the primers and despite the cost of the build upkeep holy kitten …2g per 30mins…primers def do help, this build hurts. I don’t have the full armor set recommended yet but the damage is real.

I used to have issues with chrono’s and daredevils, but as soon as I get the jump on them, they is toast. I miss my P/P for range burst and may look into keeping that instead of staff, but where I never use SB, it was…alien to me to use it during a fight,lol. You def need it tho for the mobility (unless you have a rev pumping out swiftness…which I was grateful for)

Should have a montage vs more heavies

I’m very glad that you are enjoying the spec. Yes I do admit it is expensive to run and upkeep. But it is very beneficial in the long run, and considering that Anet are adding new PvP sigils, that will most likely cross over to WvW sometime soon. It’ll be even stronger, once those get implemented.

YO literally this Vault “Fix” better be temporary. This Bullspit aint flying with me. Vault as it is right now is SLOWER than the actual slow condition (Exaggeration). But it’s SLOW. FIX IT.

The quickness nerf isn’t all that better either. Now if we fight outnumbered with staff, we can’t fast cleave a downed.

Get it together Anet.

EDIT: Either Increase our evasion frames to compensate for the slow kittylitter, or fix your spit

If you are upset about this endurance nerf, and didn’t see it coming, and didn’t learn to play anything else other than a spec that carries and takes little to no skill to use, then I am sorry for your loss and this utter inconvenience. :/ . Time to learn to play DA.

I really like the SoA buff. The fix to vault I will have to see the “fix” for myself. Atleast they didn’t hurt power Thief. my build survives balance patch.

If Ghost Thief survives through a full balance patch, ANet has completely lost touch with the game.
