Agree about critical haste. Agree that CS is underwhelming. Also don’t think hidden killer is worth taking CS for, especially if you don’t play dagger mainhand.
However, I don’t think it’s a big deal that CS is underwhelming. Thieves traited into CS for two main reasons: stat bonus and executioner. Now that stat bonuses are removed from trait lines and executioner is in DA, having an underwhelming CS line isn’t that much of a loss. If anything, we should see it as freeing up trait points because you basically spend 6 non-trickery points in DA instead of the 8 non-trickery points for mug + CS today.
Well this is a good start to a discussion.

Critical Strikes tree has been gutted. But from what Devs are saying these changes are subject to change, and are still under review.
Unrelenting Strikes : Critical hit damage is increased against foes who’s health is below the threshhold.
- Correct me if I am wrong but this is 5s of might, on a 1s CD when foes HP is below threshhold. This will stack if I am not mistaken.
Don’t agree with nor understand why the “critical haste” trait was removed from C.S line. I would like to get a little bit more insight on that decision. (If it was discussed in the stream, I wouldn’t know, I only looked at the notes)
Now the C.S line as I said does look a bit gutted, and doesn’t really seem like anything new got added, but lets look more so on the brighter side of things. I know all of you at one point in time had wished to be able to use both Executioner and Hidden Killer at the same time, and now it is possible.
Post patch I’ll be 66xx6. Have been running and still currently am running 26xx6.

I’ve been using 20606 dp for awhile now in WvW. There is not a class or build too difficult to take down. Hell ive even won a 1v7v7. The sheer amount of utility you have is unbelievable. Being able to interrupt resses mid stomp with steal has win an in umerable amount of 1v2s/3s, and being able to interrupt an eles ether renewal through armor of earth has also won me multiple 1v1s. Its an amazing build, and for anyone curious i definitely suggest trying it. Never tried d/d before, you just can’t do anything compared to dp :/ dual wielding daggers looks so bad as tho so props to those who pull i off.
My gear setup is also slightly different from yours. I opt for less health and crit chance in favor of more ferocity and toughness.
I’ve tried 20606 D/P, but find that I just don’t need the shadow arts. I’d opt for 26006 or 60206 to contribute more burst to my team. 20606 on D/P just doesn’t hit very hard, especially against bunkers.

That’s true, but I’d only run 26006 if I had very skilled bunkers supporting me. 26006 on D/D is extremely painful because you pretty much have to be in melee range, and having no blind on stealth means your enemy is free to aoe around himself, even if you land your CnD. It’s also very difficult to solo roam on 26006 D/D. That said, I have been trying 40406 recently with Improvisation or Dagger Training, which I also like.

Running 26xx6 offers quite a bit of damage compared to the other build selections mentioned. But in return as said before you are very squishy. I prominently play 26xx6 and beat the whole notion that it’s not viable, due to how little hp you have and armor rating.
It’s all about your playstyle and how you adapt to it, playing 26xx6 will benefit you in the long run in my opinion due to the fact that you are playing with all the odds against you. (Less evasions, No condi clear, No extra Vigor, No swiftness on Dodge, etc.)
When playing crit you need to be conscientious about your health bar, and your evasions. You can’t mindlessly waste your dodges like some builds out there. Crit focuses on CnD whereas variants of other builds focus on larcenous strike.
To summarize, 26xx6 is excellent to use, but it’s all how you play with it, and which traits, sigils, and runes you use to compliment the build. —- I have a video on youtube running 26xx6 if you’re ever interested.

Prioritizes Stability first then Aegis. Was this ninja’d? I haven’t noticed?
S/D #3- Once you’ve adapted to it, it’s pretty easy to use. Me being a Crit Thief, I don’t tend to use 3 as religiously, CnD is much more opening and hard hitting once landed (In my perspective with a crit build) unless i am trying to perma evade a rapid fire, or any stealthed attacks. Honestly I say this nerf is a blessing once you’ve adapted. But yes those of you who were the 3 spamming evasion specs, i guess you can say it did hurt your burst damage exponentially.
Rapid Fire Ranger- I hear a lot of Thieves complaining about the ranger’s like 6000 range (exaggeration). But honestly all you need to do is get close to them, and CnD. What average Thieves fail to forget is we have a 1500 range steal trait (Long Reach). I’ve been carrying this trait for over a year, and I can’t explain how useful and convenient it is to have. Having the element of surprise and stealing from a longer range is much more useful, than a 900 range easily anticipated steal.
Steal Bug- Yes it is quite a nuisance, and everyone has had it done to them once post patch. But what I would suggest is to memorize your blinkable areas, and obstructed areas. This will help you in the long run.
— I’ve also notice that doing multiple clicks (I’m a fast styled player), then turning your camera while in motion and attempting a steal also has a low success rate. Thats simply a bug that needs to be fixed.
Don’t lose faith in your Thief.
Thief got hit the most. lol.. Warrior first? Lets compare buffs, then lets compare the useful buffs that actually matter. Thief had 1. hit up to 2 targets D/x autoattack. Which necro’s also got.

I was so nervous LOL. Because he was a mixture of celestial and zerker, and those ele’s are like warriors.. If you really pay attention from 9:05-9:15 in the video, you’ll actually see if he were to continue to engage on me, I would’ve died just then and there. But as I said before in the previous comment above, the best defensive is a strong offense. I was praying that he didn’t call my bluff, and turn around and attack, he had me stunned and all my CD’s were down.

Yeah condi is quite a hindrance, but I’ve been playing this build for months now. I’ve adapted, and know how to fight “some” condi builds. Others are just inevitable. I hate Acro. But thank you for the feed back!

Doesn’t matter what build you use, most people when they see a thief with sword equipped, they think evasion spammer anyway.

I would love it. But if it were per pulse, it would be a similar mechanic to chaos storm, minus the interrupt, and multi-condis

Only if the damage on impact is decent. If it’s the equivalent of a detonated clusterbomb, I will accept the damage.
Like I said in another post of mine, If i am not able to 1 shot lowbies with it, I’ll be upset. Because they said in the stream Choking gas can crit now. I just really hope it is not impact per choking gas pulse. Otherwise the whole dropping the gas in front of the enemy rather than actually on top of them will be useless.
Adapting to different circumstances is what Thief does on a daily, We can’t afford to face tank anything, so we find ways to work around, and cope.

I enjoyed reading his post. It made perfect sense is 100% factual and accurate. Your qq about a fix to a clear oversight of an unrevealing damage source is just sad on the other hand.
So where did you read any “qq” in the post?, What i was explaining was a way to adapt, or work around the and find a way to bi pass the reveal.

I can assure you, there’s nothing inherently superior about the players who play thieves. No one had to pass any test to roll a thief and there’s no magical force that attracts the “best” players or most adaptable players to this class.
And the reason you had to waste people’s time reading your post was because?
So if I am correct. When in stealth and we drop a choking gas on an enemy, we will then get revealed, because of a small amount of damage that will come with the incoming impact of the poison.
So a way to bi-pass this little problem is throw the gas in the direction the actual player is walking, and not directly on top of them, thus missing that initial poison impact, leading into staying within stealth.
If I am wrong please correct me, but Anet has only told us it was on impact, if the poison is already on the ground the impact would have already subsided.

Edit: Granted.. Choking gas doesn’t have impact per pulse.

Oh wow, I didn’t expect a nice discussion. Thanks for the love, but I mean D/P in my perspective that is a minor nerf. For you people who main D/P, it really isn’t too big a problem in my perspective as well. I main S/D, and #3 isn’t a problem for me, because i tend to use CnD alot more.
Flanking Strikes- Perma Evade. Yup
Choking Gas- Gas can crit, I better be able to one shot lowbies.
Panic Strike- Lul.. Why was it even changed. So I suppose warriors are the only class allowed to have OP immob abilities (Pin down)
Black Powder- This will stop nothing
Richochet- Lul cool. So where’s my shortbow 1200 range again?
Invigorating Precision- Cool now it’s better on parr with SoM (Which are both horrible)
Flanking into Larcenous Strike- Now i understand the whole stopping the perma evade meta with S/D. But the problem wasn’t S/D’s fault 100%. There were no acknowledgements to acro tree. But yet, we’ll still be able to perma evade if we don’t hit a target via flanking strikes.
-I for one am not a big promoter of flanking strikes, or evasion thief to begin with. I am a Crit strikes Thief.
But even though i was abit satisfied with the change to larc strike, i was unhappy with the fact that Anet did not target the real problem. The Acro line.
These changes to Thief were un-needed, and unnecessary. If all we had were minor fixes rather than buff/s or nerfs, I’d be fine. Thief was in a good spot. Now it’s as if they’re aiming to get all the Thieves in gw2 on the Condi Aid’s bandwagon.
I will be logging on alot less frequently if these changes go through. Maybe even hang up my daggers “So to speak”. my 4800+ on Thief (Only toon on my account) hours will go in vein.
Nothing less than great gameplay. I was suprised when you won that Elementalist and killshot Warrior battle. Because I know that elementalist is celest/zerker. So he could’ve sustained for days, but he was too worried about trying to keep that warrior alive.
And who was that CNB necro 0_0 i don’t know him lol.. and that clutch Withdraw heal cancel in shadow refuge, OP weapon swap.

So I am going to refrain from using any vulgar language, Just due solely to the fact that it just happened, and I may still be fired up because of it. So let me get to the point minus a story.
If you Teleport as a Thief in water via #5 Harpoon gun skill before you get downed. You get an immobilize glitch in water. And usually if you’re on land you can do /dance or /d and it will clear the bug on land (that should’ve been fixed), but It can’t be cleared in water.
So While you’re in downed state you can’t move, due to teleporting right before getting downed.

Pack is alot more useful than str in my opinion. It’s easy for that one boon of might to get ripped or stolen.

Auto attack is poor, #2 is near useless, #3 lacks damage, #4 is probably the best in the whole set, #5 reveals on impact.

Hidden Killer is all you need from source of damage on D/D. You’re over 2k power which is actually where you should be. The utility free up is really essential, and near to perma swiftness, offers a great way to keep up with pace of fights (via chasing or tactical retreating)
I recently just finished my assassins full set. I am sitting on 100% critical chance. Before i had full assassins, i specc’ed into furious retaliation. But now that I have 100% crit chance, i don’t spec into fury. I now use practiced tolerance, and have over 17k hp with full guard stacks. That way i don’t need to use side strike either. I use Practiced tolerance/crit haste/executioner
It was nice team work there, actually the part where I thought the other guy was gonna swoop in and do like a teleport+BP, where you did a slow mo stomp was nice, but unfortunately he didn’t, but that ranger didn’t CC anyway so it was fine none the less.
I’ve seen you 2 run around before, keep up the good teamwork.
In what case would you use this combo? Im curious. Will you be posting a video?
