Lol, I hate them too. Whenever I need to do one I can’t complete, I call for a friend to come here and do it for me. But really, it should not be part of the core game. I will always object that and quit playing or buy new content if that happens. Until the expansion we could do without (though I did miss the season 2 completion because of that). Anyway, I’m afraid the point of no return has already been passed. This is a new direction in the game, like it or not. For me, it means I stick to the old content and don’t buy new anymore.
I did not buy HoT because of the jp and hardcore content. I like play a relaxed game. Not really easy, but with a smooth difficulty curve. HoT is just a mountain too steep for me. Yet I did not quit playing. Still play the core game and even started something new there: the storyline (never bothered before).
As for the future of this game: Anet needs to rethink the whole concept. Maybe like Blizzard did with D3 before their expansion. The current choice of the devellopment team seems to be: go for world laegues and arcade like content. That attracts a different public than traditional MMORPG’s. But cheaper to create than huge world environments. So maybe its not such a problem for Anet if players leave, as long as there is a group of hardcore players staying around and buying stuff.
No, I dont think there will be GW3, or a next expansion.
The only bundle I’d like to see is one with all harvesting/lodging/mining tools. And no, if there is only 1 item in a bundle that I like, than I won’t buy it.
You need to change the layer of the map to see the waypoints – the diamond shaped icons to the bottom right of the screen
Thanks, that was helpful. +1 for you
With my human chr’s, when I use the stone to go to the home instance (Salma District), when I open the map there I can tp to every waypoint I visited before. When I do so, I get a warning msg that I’m about to leave the instance, but I’m able to go to any waypoint outsite the instance (and pay the price for that).
With my Norn however, when I use the stone and go the the home instance (Hunters Heart), when I open a map from there, there are no waypoints visible, exept for 1 in the same district and 2 in Divinity Reach.
I already had a home portal stone for my human. Often used is to return to the Salma District (Home) and from there teleport to a nearby situation outside the instance. Now I bought a second one for my Norn, which goes to Hunters Heart (Home). But from there it’s not possible to teleport ousite the instance (at least not to the countryside, only to a few locations in Divinity Reach) Tried it too with my old portal stone, same result. On several chr’s.
I think HOT will be in gemstore within a year, long before a new expansion is announced. Simply because over a year it won’t sell anymore for real money.
A discount would be nice, but gems? Unlikely.
..Anyway, IF we get mounts, most probably we have to grind for food to keep them alive lol!
Why would mounts save the game? Better improve general gameplay, e.g. make running around faster.
For me, the worst part of Toypocalypse is that you can’t play it with your friends. … (snap)
I concur. Same with other winterday event: even when you are in a team, when you enter the event everyone is separated on different instances. Really a shame…
2 logs for such a big plank? Amazing! I thought 3 or 4 would be needed
My Norn seems to be running slower. Humans no difference.
GW1 Factions: how to do an expansion right.
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Albadaran.1283
Factions was not an expansion, and it was the worst of all 3 GW1 games because of the small size and the closed gates; Fortunately the follow up Nightfall returned to a real open world model, and the new heroes there made it the best of all GW1 games. Too bad Anet made the same mistake with HoT as they did with Factions: hide content behind ‘closed doors’ by making it very linear and depending on skills unuseual in MMORPG’s (e.g. jumping) and playing in trains to get achievements.
This is not likely to change. It seems the new target group is Young Adults, who grew up with SuperMario and like fast action games and puzzles, lol!
I Always fail Jumping Puzzles. Even many vistas are too hard for me to do…
I’m in for separating PvP/WvW and PvE. Look at D3 and its expansion. Players there grind even more than here in GW2, but never complain. Why not? Because of the brilliant Paragon level feature. So the level cap is 70 there. But above that you can gain unlimited Paragon levels, making your chr stronger and stronger. THAT is what GW2 misses: the feeling of progress after level 80. And for balancing reasons this cannot be changed as long as PvP, WvW and PvE draw from the same chr. level pool. So yes, go for it and allow chr’s to grow much stronger in PvE…
It’s an old bug. Started happening more than 1 year ago. There is nothing there.
Gratz with your pass. I hope you read the etiquette pamphlet? No jumping, dancing, running around, etc. Upper Class behaviour only :P
Logging axe 40% off, would be a nice one
I recommend to use the ingame settings for best performance. For this game GeForce exp. mostly sets graphics lower than necessary. For The Witcher 3 however it makes the best choices. But not for GW2.
-Make gameplay smoother and faster; increase overall running speed by 10%, no decrease while under attack unless you use attack skills yourself.
-Increase itemdrops. Every item should be droppeble so you have a chance to get it without having to grind for crafting materials.
-Make PvE soloable for everyone
-Jumping puzzles and Fractals; only as sideboard games for fun, but no need to do them for any reward.
-Seperate PvP / PvE in a way that PvE can level up beyond 80.
-Monthly a new set of items to drop (armor & weapons – replacing old ones which are added to the gemstore)
-Maybe hard to realize, but I would love it to see the Diablo III adventure mode (a random set of instanced -already excisting- events with great rewards) in GW2, for PvE and randomly replaced everytime you log in.
Maybe you did not kill him at all. Perhaps he just escaped to the deep sea waters when he was about to die… Why give good loot if you did not even kill the monster hmmm?
Nay.
Maybe it attracts new players, but on the other end players are leaving. Better find out what changes are needed to keep the old playerbase happy and active. That will attract new players too (by hearing how good the game is). But I have the feeling that someone high above is not happy with the results and fast action is needed. Not good…
It’s a good outfit for Norn. And probably Druids would like it too. It has something savage. Not bad at all.
Since when did GW2 become a Hardcore MMO?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

No one would have complained if this was added as free season 3 content to the core game…
Yes remove it. It is annoying anyway for PvE players to see how much money can be earned by WvW matches. Money that can be spent much better to improve gameplay…
The free gifts are ok to me
It has already been nerfed. No need to do this again. Yet what is mentioned here is exactly where this game fails where other MMO’s have succes: it’s all about getting gold to craft items. But the thrill in MMO’s is itemDROP…
Lol, I don’t like platform games at all. Same with jumping. Currently I’m helping a friend of mine with a low level chr in the core game. She is fond of the vistas where you have to jump and keeps laughing that I -level 80- am unable to complete them. O well, its just not my thing. But since lots of people like it… Still I wish they only would be optional, not necessary for completing anything.
I don’t think so.
Hmm, no matter how it was advertised, I would like this change. Would not even be hard to accomplish since dungeons are instances, meaning you can scale them up or down to meet the number of players in a party.
Said it before and say it again: it has nothing to do with toughness, but with playing style. I don’t like action games and platform games, so I don’t play them. Simply because I have no fun in that.
Maybe its just about information: if Anet had revealed more about the expansion instead of trying to push it right away with pre-purchases, than some players would have thought twice, and no complaining at all.
Anyway, fortunately I’m a patient guy so I waited to see how it would be. No complaints here, just observing and trying to give some useful feedback.
I love transmutaion charges, its for free! (Well I’m Dutch, we like everything for free hahaha)
Opp (and others), it has nothing to do with ‘causual’ of difficulty. It’s just that a number of players don’t WANT to play it the way it is now. It has become a different game: Fast arcade action instead of action rpg. Be alert all the time, team up, change your gear, dodge, etc. It’s ok for 10 minutes or so, to do a fast quest, but not all the time. It’s useless to keep repeating that it all can be done. Of course it can. But many of us don’t like to play this way. It’s like changing a turnbased strategy game into a real time strategy game. The fact is that there are players who don’t like fast action and they won’t adapt to the new sort of gameplay, but leave if nothing changes.

Solo & heroes? I’d love it! Don’t say its impossible, because with stanced maps everything is possible!
I don’t believe it was “well known” that the expansion was going to be harder than the core game. It was well known only to the minority who followed the various pre-release announcements. Most people don’t follow the forums and don’t read press releases. I think most players would assume that the expansion was more of the same. “Hey, I like this game and now there is more of it to buy. Cool!”. So it’s hardly surprising that a bunch of players are now shocked at the difficulty level. Telling someone who has paid for the expansion that they should stick to the non-expansion stuff if they can’t cope is, frankly, absurd.
Anet have missed the sweet spot imo.
That only a minority followed the announcements is completely irrelevant. The only thing that is relevant is the fact that the information about the increase in difficulty was made openly available by Arenanet for nine months prior to launch. There is no excuse for not knowing that HoT was going to be more difficult. If you wanted to find out, you could find out.
[… snap]
As I posted earlier, we all know that expansions are harder than the core game. I mentioned LOD, EOTN, Reapers of Souls as examples. But in those games you could just continue the way you played in the core game. In HOT you can’t. They changed the game mechanics, making it more Arcade. THAT is what people are complaining about. Its a different game now. If Anet had made it harder just by leveling up enemies with a few levels, like in the expansions I mention above, than gameplay would have stayed as it was and no one would have complained.
Tequatl the Sunless…
Usually when I like a game I always buy the expansion. So I bought Diablo II’s LOD, Eye of the North, Diablo III’s Reaper of Souls. I did not buy HoT. Why not? Because Anet changed the game mechanics.
Expansions are mostly tougher than the core game. So were LOD, EotN and Reaper of Souls tougher than the original games. Yet gameplay was the same: you could just move on and continue playing the way you used to do. But not with HoT. In their eagerness to follow the wishes for a tougher game Anet changed the game mechanics. HoT moved from a MMORPG towards a MMO Arcade game (no, don’t get me on definitions, this is just to picture the general situation).
Sure, there are peeps who love it. But basically this kind of gameplay has a different audience than rpg’s. Therefore, players may argue that you can play the maps, and even give good advice, but those who don’t like action games will not adapt.
Question is if Anet intended to change gameplay to renew the player base and focus on those who love action games, or not. Because if the answer is no, than something needs to happen fast to attract those who love traditional MMORPG game play and give them the confidence that Anet is there for them too. Not by making HoT easier (that would anger those who now love it). But by adding appealing content for this group of players. How, that is up to Anet.
It’s one of the reasons why I did not buy the expansion: I useually play for like 30 – 40 minutes, 3 or 4 times a day. Which makes about 2 hours a day. But given the map mechanics in HoT you can’t do anything in 30 – 40 minutes.
thnx for the info!
Ok. Than I would still expect to see the feature, but greyed out. But it was not in the list at all?
Hi,
I did not do this for a while, but yesterday when I was in a party and tried to jump to the party location by right-clicking on a party Avatar, I did not get the option: Join In [zone name].
Instead I only got this list:
- Whisper – Whisper the target player in chat
-Leave Party
- Send Mail – Mail the target player a message
-Add Friend – Add target player to your friends list
- Guild Invite – Invite the target player to your guild if you have proper privileges
- Block – Adds the target player to your block list, you will not see what they say in chat and they cannot contact you in any way.
-Report – Report target player for improper conduct.
Did I miss something?
Well… I think the ‘stop critizing Guild Hall’ threads should be stopped lol! What is the use? Just post in an excisting GH thread if you want to respond.
Count me in! I’m too old to jump!
Ok, I’m offering a solution: Make it so that all adjustments can be bought in the gem store as well as by playing the content. This would satisfy most small guilds and offers Anet some profit too…
No. I love my watchwork pick and don’t want it to be changed. Not for a skin that abuses the name of one of the best SF tv series, without even coming close to the atmosphere of that series lol!
+1 for the opp. Yep, I hoped this expansion would be like EotN. But it is the opposite. Looks more like the first GW follow up: Factions. I wonder if it was the same team creating it. Weird that Anet forgot how Factions was critisized because it was not an open world where everyone could go everywhere from scratch. Oh well, maybe the next expansion will bring back the team of heroes?
I think the Opp is right if it’s for too hard or not. Probably everything is playable, that is, with the necessary insight in how mobs work, how to navigate, what build you need on what places, etc. But a lot of people simply don’t like to play it this way. They want to play a straightforward game with 1 skillset on maps scaled up or down to meet their level. That is what most of the discussion is about.
Seriously, but why are people asking for mounts? I play The Witcher 3, which has mounts. But hardly anyone uses them at all since its mostly faster to run to waypoints, just like in GW 2.
