Maybe a solution lies in instanced guild missions. Technically an instance can be a whole map. Set to easy, medium, hard or horror. This way the core game and expansions can have a difficulty level playable for everyone, with some exceptions to very hard. Where the instanced missions provide challenges for those who want it harder. Also the amount of loot dropped can be handled this way. Opinions?
Achemy my friend, alchemy. An old tradition. Or, in this game: crafting. Sun beads…
Hmmm, this needs some fine tuning. E.g. It is quite normal that players following a guardian mission, like the bull, check on their way for nodes to mine, harvest, etc. Also Silverwastes has lots of events in between so you sometimes are hold up while the bull is moving on. Therefore it happens often that a player is not participating all the time, yet did his/her amounts of kills, but got no reward. Where someone who joins at the very last moment, killing only the last mob seems to be rewarded for almost doing nothing…
So what happens when you are in a party, get disconnected and return just after the event is completed?

So in short you said that Anet made the game better with these change?
- less people simply leeching
- less event that fail becauser of leecher
- need to actually use your brain to play
- Reward for doing thing in the map instead of no reward at all
- etc.
Am I wrong? My thoughts exactly. I really like the fact you can’t tag and leave, like with the mordrem invasions and silverwastes. It advocates a selfish style of play, so it’s nicer this way.
Than go play guild missions and dungeons! the open world is for everyone, including solo players, train tag’s and even leechers. And no, it has nothing to do with anyone’s intelligence. In contrary. I hear a lot of very selfish statements in this forum, mainly posted by players who are afraid to lose their godlike status if lots of causual gamers can get the same things as they do, simply by playing the game as it was intended: by having fun exploring the map.
Wait a minute, did you seriously just say that the open world is intended for everyone including leechers, and then complain that people who don’t like people who are leachers is being selfish? That is seriously twisted logic.
There’s a big difference between being a casual player and being a leacher. The game was not intended for leechers. Let me restate that: this game was not intended for people to leech. If that was the case they would also let botters play the game too.
Leeches can cause serious harm to events, because they’re not really actively participating, so therefore they’re not really contributing, but their presence is increasing the difficulty of dynamically scaled events. And then you really want to complain that you can’t leach? That is really offensive.
Nope. I said the intention is to explore and have fun. As a part of it, the open world is for everyone, some will abuse it, but most of it don’t. The open world, or specifically HoT, is NOT exclusively for specialist and hardcore gamers who now seem to claim this. That is what I’m talking about.

Not everyone has time during holliday events, so its great that you can trade those items.
Although I like the idea, I do wonder if it will work out fine. I mean: Look at this forum, and even this post: people don’t have the discipline to chose the right forums for their posts. I see lots of HoT related stuff here, including this post, yet it is not posted in the HoT forum but here…
It is not likely that a next expansion will be as hard to play as this one. That is, IF there will be a next expansion. I don’t have insight in Anets finance and profit on this game. Anyway, is there a future for this game? Probably, but changes need to be made. Moving PvE away from crafting and towards exploring large maps with lots of (soloable) dungeons would be a nice start.
I wanted it to be like Eye of the North: Great hard level content which can be done solo because of parties of heroes.
There was simply to little time to create new exploring content for the expansion, like lots of maps and dungeons. That is why we get ‘in dept’ content, meaning things like jump puzzles and high level crafting (which needs lots of grinding). In other words: Anet found ways to keep players busy by making things harder to get. I also don’t like jump puzzles, or grinding for crafting, or things like Fractals. But without it, there would be not much content left duhhh…
No, no, no, no, Heroes!! We need heroes to fix unpleasant Elite maps heeh. Just like in GW 1, it would solve everything! Anyway, for fasttraveling I don’t need a horse but more waypoints.
It’s a part of the game I hardly care about. I swimm to get from A to B, as fast as possible, not to combat. The only exceptions are mining spots surrounded by creatures. But they useually only slow me down, not even going into combat there lol! Sooo, I would say: underwater world has a nice look, but it’s a pretty useless feature…
Opp, if you find the reward too small for so much effort, than simply don’t do it. It just happened for ascended armor as well (increased crafting materials making it much more expensive) and this is simply the way mmo’s are using over and over to keep people playing. Sometimes I really long back to the time players could not craft at all but just found +1 to +3 items in AD&D games. The way it is now, crafting does not really add anymore to gameplay, it only makes it last longer. Anyway, in GW2 it hardly matters what you wear or use, as long as it is level 80. So… Take it or leave it.
Please give me my GW1 party of heroes back and I will be happy to play this expansion
ANet has shown that If people get into fights about PvE content, they will nerf it. They have done this repeatedly. From reports on forum threads, maize balm farmers and non farmers were clashing repeatedly. People warned on these threads that if the two groups continued to clash, ANet would step in and nerf the farm.
And ANet did.
So wait, if we want something to be nerfed, we simply have to start an arguement and it will happen? Hmmm, in that case I may have some ideas (laughs evil).
Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

I’ve been in games for some time now, many years. I know that no matter WHAT Anet did with the expansion, there would be a lot of complaining, particularly from PVE’rs.
[snip]
Well, that exactly points out why: 90% of the content seems to advertise teamplay: WvW, raids, guildquests. But as a solo PvE player I would like to do things when I am in the mood for it, at ease, taking as much time as I like. That way it would take years before I would gain enough hero points. And I know what I’m talking about. Same happened with the dailies, which slowed down my progress achievements dramatically while skipping fractals, WvW and boss hunts. Of course, everything needs to be earned, but why not simply by exploring the environment and slaying monsters?
It’s hard to say what motives Anet has for changes like this. But looking at the fact that players need to gather lots of stuff to create good items in the expansion, it is fair to assume it’s done to keep them playing longer by grinding a lot. Same for (minor) changes like this one.
Make the game faster. e.g. +10% speed for every creature and player. No speed drops when under attack, unless you are using attack skills yourself. Make creatures respawn randomly instead of fixed: different spots and different creatures. Faster animations when mining (etc). Make creature ai more intelligent so it does not attack every time the same way (or let it even decide not to attack if you are much stronger). Randomize events to make them more difficult to track.
Thanks both of you. I did the copy folder way, and it works fine
My C disk is almost full, and GW 2 takes a lot of space there. My D disk is amost empty, and I would like to transfer GW 2 to my D disk. What is the best way to do this? Copy the files from C to D? Uninstall and than re install on D? Something else?
No. It’s very naive to believe that your personal information will be secure forever. It’s only a game and I won’t give my id or cellphone number to play a game. It’s not that important anyway, I never experience problems when playing because of gold sellers…
Just for the record, but what is exactly the problem? I mean: can’t you just log in here and change your email adress? It happens all the time that players change providers and lose their old email adresses so…
Hmmm, I think what the opp would like is a simular solution as in GW1: a party of heroes. I would like that too, but I’m afraid it’s not gonna happen…
I don’t use the app, so I get the reminder. But notice that the amount of notifications is increasing. It was once every 2 or 3 days, now it’s every day. I just ignore it.
It is an old issue, and has never been resolved. A work around is to play the game in windowed mode. Not full screen window. This solved it for me, but as soon as I go back to full screen, the problem is back.
Opp: if you own the full gameset & expansion, than yes! The party with heroes is great, and a lot of content to explore. I would not recommend it if you only own Factions and / or the core game though…
Since this is mostly about the rewards: I think we should return to the basics, meaning coins, gems and karma. It’s a bad idea to keep introducing new currencies with every event. It makes rewards inaccessable for many players (since no longer available after the event) and that only leads to complaints. Just my 5 pence…
To answer the opp: No. This is really one of the nonsense features where I think ‘OMG, can’t they do anything more useful?’. I mean, its little effort to delete the stuff yourself. What I WOULD like is a way to sell it. Even for only 1 copper.
I want them too… But not gonna spend 1000 gems for each :/
What is the definition of ‘hard mode’? ‘Mode’ suggests a button to select a type of gameplay, but what I read here gives me the impression that players mean: hard endlevel content (for every player the same).
Got the SMS notification for the first time today and was suprised: Anet earlier informed us that ‘veteran players’ (because they are known to Anet) don’t need to use this. Anyway, please add a a way to discart this option instead of the ‘later’ button. I don’t do it. Not for a game, not for Facebook or any other online platform. And that’s my own responsibility.
Back to topic: some players simply don’t like fractals and with 2 fractal missions this means: no daily achievement today. So plain and easy (without discussing pro’s, con’s and alternatives): Less Fractals yes or no.
There was / is another thread (older) about this, but Anet never responded. No, it’s not heat or graphic driver (though it seems that mainly players with Nvidia Gforce are experiencing this). It has something to do with windows updates and hidden frames. What helps for me is to start the game in a window by adding [space] -windowed to the startup icon. Yet, once I play in a full sized window (so just like there is no window at all), than the problem occurs again frequently. Mind that even playing -windowed does not solve this completely, but for me it changed from once every 2 games to once in a week. Hope this helps.
The trinity is something from traditional rpg-action games. GW 2 is different. Everything is in balance on the open world. It does not matter what profession / race, everything is properly capped or boosted. Only at team actions something reminding of the trinity takes place: there you may have different roles for professions though not as strictly as in traditional rpg games. Anyway, it’s not really something to bother about.
You think everything is in balance in the open world?
As in players combat vs environment: yes. Does not matter what profession / race you are, no peaks. As for team actions, well we just saw how long it took to get Tequatl back to the old event before the skill patches. Not talking about those events…
So you’re saying you’re ok with these world boss zergfests. Just trying to clarify.
No, I would prefer a smaller chance to win to make it more exiting. But that has nothing to do with the trinity: like it or not, but the with the trinity players would use their skills to support each other with the result that the event is succesfully over as fast or even faster as it is now with the zergfests. And that is what I mean: just for the results trinity or not hardly matters…

Wonderful, teq is STUPIDLY easy again. -_-
Really Anet, can’t you adjust it properly instead of going too far one way or another? Please? Teq should not be as easy kittenterer.
Actually Teq is back to the situation before all patches (starting with the skill patch); it has been this way all along, either succes with 7-9 minutes left, or fail due to not enough players around. After the skill patch this changed to succes with 10+ minutes left and was called too easy. Than the +100% health patch changed it to very hard, due to lack of crit spots. Now that has been repaired and we are back to how it always was: 7-9 minutes left after succes or fail due to not enough players around. Indeed, that is no hardmode Teq anymore, but why complain now if people kept quiet all those months before the patchings where he was slain in the same amount of time? I’d say: good fixing!

Currently victory seems to be privileged to a few organized guilds. Noticed today advertising on several servers about half an hour before the event started. You can only join their map if you have teamspeak and meet their conditions. Thing is that they are picking up skilful players from several maps just before the event, leaving the majority behind, unorganized, without chance to win…
Good to hear the bug will be repaired. That leaves the fact why this threat was opened: what about the % of succesfully do the event? I suggested 50%, but with the bug repaired and nothing else done, its obious that this will be a lot lower. Today I noticed no succesful events exept for the 1 where players joined an hour before starting. And that was WITH the exploid. Sooo… The complaining will only continue if nothing else is done.
I agree with the opp. More: In GW1 we had our npc parties and we could do many dungeons on our own. Wish those times returned…
I’d rather compare it to Guild Wars Factions: small ‘in dept’ content (meaning closed gates which you had to play open). HoT is also small, and from an article in a Belgium magazine I understand that you also have to unlock content by doing special actions (jumping and fractal alike puzzels). I skipped Factions and was delighted with Nightfall. Sincerely hope that the next expansion will be like Nightfall (meaning a huge map and lots of fighting content).
I’m an elementalist, so I attack ranged. Also not enough hitpoints to stand on the crit spot and survive. You cannot expect that players who play ranged just change this…
I was hoping last years combined offer of 3 gathering tools would come back (sickle, axe, pick); missed them the last time. Oh well…
Question is: are we supposed to kill world bosses 90% of the encounters? I think it should be around 50% Meaning that Teq indeed is too strong, but not as much as indicated in this threat. This shows that a general approach for all world bosses does not work well: Anet needs to fine-tune it per boss.
Nope, I just wait until standard is between €19.99 – €29.99. Should take half a year or so. But I’m not in a hurry since this is an ‘in dept’ upgrade, not offering a huge new world.
I simply want a guild hall, no matter if its for 1 person (solo) guilds or huge quest based guilds. It’s a game! No restrictions here please. It’s meant to be fun!
Today it’s a disaster: getting this every time I log in, sometimes fast, sometimes after an hour of playing. Not much in my error logging, but this:

It’s only for them who prepurchase this on Anet’s own shop. Mind that prepurchase prices are never the best offers.
