In the old system after 11 every single time I leveled it gave me a small reward of a point to spend, an increase in stats and a sense of my character growing.
Now I need to level FIVE TIMES for basically the same thing. kitten just got boring and dull!
Why is this a good thing?
this is simply nonsense however often you repeat it. Single trait points were not noticeable at all unless you sat down with a calculator. I am not a big fan of the new character progression system below 80, but you are completely off the mark. And how do you even know how it feels just now? At one point you suggest you are a very slow leveler and get hit hard by the change, then half a day after the change you proclaim how it feels after gaining 5 levels?
Why would u ever buy this game at this time? RIP my friend… This game is so broken down and sad its pathetic what anet has not done…. It has not changed in 2 years just got more boring
aha, now people have to tell new players how they are not to enjoy the game they just bought. Guess that usual forum sulking isn´t enough for avenging some perceived wrong you have suffered at the hands of GW2 anymore.
has the update changed your alts´ abilities of equipping them? Probably not. I wonder what the next stage of refund demands will be. Maybe ask for a refund of all items you ever used because the higher tiers replaced them at some point?
oh, I leave that up to your imagination and google.
there are still ways to farm items and money in game, some even better than the trains. The only things that have been nerfed are champ trains (and not all of them as the few coins in bags weren´t the big thing) and dye daytrading/gambling. People will flock to other pastures and continue to generate gold and items.
… and use tools of manipulation and suggestion.
This is why, every time Anet gives us free stuff in the gem shop, I feel like they do it to direct our attention to the rest of the gem things.
To make sure those who don’t visit the gem shop tab now must, if they want the free stuff. On another note: I don’t have hundreds of dollars to buy a couple hundred gold through the ridiculous price of gems to gold conversion (if I want to buy exotic armor for all my alts, and a few nicer skins like The Crossing that I haven’t been able to afford).
If Anet truly cared, they’d have put a cap on those prices. :/
oh my god, advertisement, a truly fiendish machination…
more people doing CS now, hence harder to tag. No secret nerf conspiracy here.
false premises certainly.
that will heavily collide with the recent Orr train (which actually includes the bigger events). Popcorn time.
errm, you can partake in the trains AND be a competent player.
But what is really flabbergasting: You despise obviously all parts of the game apart from the train. So what are you exactly farming for? Ascended items to wear while “training?” A legendary weapon to “train” with? Weird.
I’m not saying you can’t be. I’m saying I am not competent, nor will I ever be. Nor will I “react” to people doing the “L2P” thing just to get a rise out of me and throw the conversation so I go to defensive mode.
Or, said another way, it’s impossible to argue with someone that agrees with you. When they go “Dalris, you suck and don’t know how to play.” I’m saying “I agree” and they have no retort but… “Uhhhh.”
Personally, I play games to putter on easiest mode. I plan my day. I think about chores. Meanwhile, I hit a button and I win. Best analogy = I’m playing and replaying the first level of tetris (champ train) while I either tab out to skim the boards, the news, write groceries. I avoid challenge like the plague.
Now here’s the piece of data that you can use against me to negate everything I’ve ever said = I only started to get into the game with the LS, and I champ train for the drops. My loot strategy is “I get what I get when I get it.”
Said another way = I’ve yet to have one character with full exotics. I probably could buy a full set, but then, I’d be done. I’m totally incompetant / lazy / L2P / (insert adjective here), ergo, I have yet to set foot in Dungeons, PVP, etc… (SIDEBAR = This is how I played Diablo and how I’m playing Marvel Heroes, just run a character through, daydream, hope to get a drop that’s a better “colour” than what I have. I never even look at the stats…) i.e. fluff gaming.
But I like LS, and, well, since LS stopped, been doing Dailies (for the AP) and Champs while waiting for Season 2 of LS.
Yeah, I’m one of “those” guys that played SWTOR for the cutscenes, and didn’t care about the gameplay.
As I said line 1 = people seem to like mocking those that like the Champ Train. I thought I’d give them more ammo, yet, do it in a passive aggressive style.
Was that enough insight to destroy / ignore / laugh at more of my post? Was that helpful?
Take care…
TLDR = I champ train to relax, level alts, get pocket change for the next jump in crafting levels. I avoid challenge, and I certainly don’t know, or will ever know how to play a game “properly” / “efficiently” / “correctly”
Oh, I don´t mock the champ train, I did it while waiting for something interesting to pop up in between (guild fractal runs and stuff like that). And I don´t really think that whole l2p thing applies to the train folk in general, as most really clueless players will not even understand what the train is, probably more hardcore players there relaxing while getting some coin than casuals.
Ultimately, I don´t really care about the future of FGS. For me, doing the train has always been its own punishment, I could never stand that boring chore longer than half an hour, at least it didn´t have the long waiting periods of QD.

You know, I deleted all my posts for fear of being banned due to board rage, but the “CIHYS?” antagonistic posts makes me want to fire back, for kicks…
First of all, nothing, NOTHING can stop me from using subpar amour, poor weapon and trait selection, hitting 1, facerolling, etc… (did I miss any?).
Also, nothing will pull me, and others, into “learn to play.” Not happening.
Interesting bit for those that like the trains = It’s DAY ONE, and there’s already a multi-map train route set up by people where I can go back to hitting “1” and profiting. And that’s just going by /map directives.
Imagine what’s out there in non-Anet websites doing even more efficient farming.
So, to the detractors of the champ train, go ahead. Keep with the posts of “L2P” and “Now you have to go do Dungeons / WvW / PvP”. Ehhh, no I won’t. But I will continue to champ train, and there’s basically nothing you or Anet can do about it, since WP-ing is legit, zerging is legit, tagging is legit, and collecting a champ box is legit. I look forward to reading how Anet can block this behaviour.
Oh, and for those hating people that complain on the boards =
You guys have been trying to stop us from complaining about, say, the rain for thousands of years. We still do it. Good luck with trying to stop board complaints. Now :“Get off my lawn.” and
“I hate the rain!” (/waves cane in your face).
TLDR = Don’t worry guys. There’s already a Day-1 New Champ Train (multi-zone) path going on. And some people report even higher gold / hour (I’m par personally). Just ask in /map (no 3rd party, nothing Anet can ban you on, just use /map) and join the Zerg. See you in game!
errm, you can partake in the trains AND be a competent player.

a few hiccups, great work overall!
And now shadow’s bugged on SoS. Portals can’t be damaged. Thanks for making 13 portals that can’t be damaged, so the event fails. This is SO much more fun than before.
yes, the bug was intended to remove your fun. If you don´t realize that a patch of that magnitude touching game core mechanics cannot be implemented flawlessly on the first try… oh well, sorry, I forgot where I am. Yes, they want to ruin your fun.
Oh, I see. I can’t possibly expect anet to actually put out a bug free patch. Well, given their track record, I guess you got me there.
if you had any idea about software and about how complex this update is, no, you couldn´t. But in any case, I am to blame, I expect adults to show adult reactions to minor, temporary nuisances instead of passive aggressive sulking.
mhm, so ranting as in “I make a mistake and complain about how someone else messed something up” is justified? Oh well, whatever rocks your boat…
Hastily check new content. Do it as quick and superficial as possible. Ignore the possibility of making mistakes. Run to game forum. Post complaint. Win!
ferocity was introduced exactly for the effect you describe. Why would anet re-buff crit damage?

I, a german, have a bountiful list of blocked german players who annoyed me with using german on international maps. But now we are leaving geographically fixed maps behind, why do you expect people will instantly adjust to a new international setting?
IMO, not.
/fifteen chars
I liked the semi-random approach more, but I can see how you need to change that for the megaserver. But a small suggestion: Maybe instead of fixed schedules that will make it hard for some players to do specific bosses, maybe use a randomized schedule every day? Fixed times for bosses, but “reroll” queue every day?
I haven´t seen it in action yet, but that warrior GM trait giving 1000 toughness after stun apparently seems a tiny bit over the top for pvp.
was bound to happen some day. And the raging over QD spider now being an elite (took rather long to realize by them) was one of the funniest entertainments I had in weeks of playing. Guess we will see a renaissance of Orr and some Karka train outside of Deso.
ok, if you traded them, I can see how you end up with a few unused – though I never saw any profit in them on a noteworthy scale, mostly people cutting their losses after an accidental purchase I guess. Anyway, if you play the market, this is a normal risk and certainly nothing to be reimbursed.
why are you guys hoarding on these items anyway? Has there ever been something like a sale? To my knowledge, they have always been the same price and they serve only one function. Clearly Anet cannot take all of the most exotic behaviour into consideration.
It’s so sad to see all the ignorants who post without reading even first page. It’s been stated multiple times that server caps have been raised and argumented by sale, sudden change of status, and status depending on account bound to server, not their activity.
It’s end of this topic. ESO (which I bought and am already bored) and RL have nothing to do with it.
bah, “Game not being like that other game” smash puny common sense!
orthography, not grammar :P And I doubt a typo can bring you from future to feature :P Anyway, hold on for a few hours, not only can you save the cost, you may actually want to rebuild cause who knows what will be in the new traits box.
I want to see you playing a healer in ANY trinity game with your screen turned off.
I know at least some healers that preferred staring at the wall instead of looking to the mobs they fight in Everquest 2. So yeah .. you need to have your monitor on, but all you have to see are the life-bars of the players.
many healers in MMORPG also use mods that turn the game into whack-a-mole on health bars without those pesky game graphics and stuff.
you got your reward at 2/2. (and apparently did not notice, maybe because it arrived at the same time as a daily box, WvW box, whatever). Mystery solved.
okay, let me take a stance that will probably get me those “fanboi” remarks from the cool bashing kids (even though my forum profile will rather reveal a kind of love/hate relationship for the game). In this thread, I can identify quite a few names that profess their hatred for everything GW2 does, is, does not do in like every single thread in the forum. What is that strange attraction that keeps you here in the forum or even game? There are really good games on the market, why not concentrate your energy there? Doesn´t that “I want to see Rome burn”-thing get old at some point?
ah, “their” trinity. Well, never seemed anything more than something tossed into a conversation casually. They never created classes that heavily leaned towards one role in that “trinity” as all classes can do somewhat of everything.
sometimes, I am very ashamed to be european… like at the moment.
Never be ashamed of being a european
Remember we civilized the world
;)
seems like a million years ago whenever I see these special time zone/patch related threads starting…
Don’t forget about the Economy manipulators, that are forcing precursors to go to absurd prices, buying all the stock, days ago i saw some going from 500g to 900g just because.
And yes ANet, of course game is big enough to not be possible to manipulate economy… tell that to the guilds dedicated to spend dozens of thousands of gold on TP.
Well, you can raise prices only to a degree at which people refrain from buying. And I have apparently missed the universal memo where “manipulating the economy”, also known as trading according to supply and demand, is defined as bad.
crab toss is a mess, so whatever. Keg brawl: man-to-man marking is a common concept in many team sports, so no, working as intended. And overall: I can hardly see “griefing” in a playmode that directly pits players against players, especially without stat or level differences.
Seems that most of this thread failed their reading comprehension test…
And i don’t think it has been a conscious decision, but instead a bunch of little unintended consequences that has snowballed since their initial concept stage.
for instance, Defiant is pretty much a “oh snap” addition to counteract stun locking on big mobs.
And a large part comes down to trying to balance PVE and PVP at the same time, while mobs pretty much ignore game mechanics.
All in all, i think GW2 has been 3 parts hype, 1 part substance so far. And most of that substance is focused around PVP. GW2 is in essence a MOBA with PVE bolted on in attempt at getting a larger recruitment ground, and perhaps appease some suits that didn’t see any money in the MOBA esports….
no, most just don´t have the opinion you would like to hear.
sometimes, I am very ashamed to be european… like at the moment.
aren´t charges dropping from various rewards like stones used to? And anyway, playing many alts, don´t you have an abundance of those just from map completions right now?
There are plenty of games that allow me to change my look for free. LOTRO has it, DCUO has it, why the hell can’t any of the newer games have this amazing feature that allows you to customize your character?
WoW has it, too.
NCSoft has certain ideas on how to best make money off the shop, but I really don’t think they’re especially good. They love their RNG, which is bound to make players unhappy, and they love offering limited-use items (two weeks pass to go somewhere, one week bank access, one time hair customization, 5 transmutation charges). All of this makes you feel like you’re borrowing something. But when I spend money, I want to feel like I’m buying something. The “borrowing” feeling is exactly what I don’t like about mmo’s with a sub fee, but I’m starting to think that I’d prefer to pay a monthly fee for GW2 if, in exchange, I could OWN everything else in GW2 “for real”. Unlimited hair customization. Unlimited mobile bank access. Unlimited transmutation charges. Unlimited access to new areas.
Yeah, I’m actually positive I’d enjoy that more.
as far as I know, almost all MMORPG don´t let you own anything via their GTC, everything is usually defined as a service.
I really don´t see a big issue here. You outlevel your equipment that fast that any kind of resources is wasted on it. I guess most people even just equip what they can grab and move on to next level.
Some people care how their characters look even if the are still leveling.
I realize some people couldn’t care less but I do- I could never play that way.
I haven’t since I got my first character to 80This is my newest character- she is lvl 12, now this is nothing extravagant but you get the idea.
if you have several characters under 80- it adds up I assure you
well, if you value the looks of your characters below 80 like someone with his max level characters, I don´t see why he should pay more than you. You are purchasing exactly the same service, why should you get a discount for it?
And it does not matter at all if you play only one character or 200, it does not change the time played on every level individually one bit.
I really don´t see a big issue here. You outlevel your equipment that fast that any kind of resources is wasted on it. I guess most people even just equip what they can grab and move on to next level.
to enable you to start your trinity threads every other week?
“No Mounts, don’t want them”
and again for this cleverly disguised request for DPS meters: My stats are non of your business.
The only good thing about EoTM is that it keeps those people out of wvw that we don’t want in wvw. The kind of player that is completely uninterested in strategy, learning, fighting or competition.
EoTM consists of a single huge farm train, that moves on the same route for hours just capping objectives. Fights with the other team are actively avoided, and defending is non-existent.
The fact that EoTM rewards (even moreso than real wvw) badges of honor and wxp is a joke and a slap in the the face for true WvW-ers.
EoTM is champfarming in WvW cloak. It has no other use than to keep the casuals happy, making them feel like they play and progress in a pvp-enviroment, when in reality it’s 100% PvE.
yeah, cool words from a “true WvW-er”, shocking thought: people can like and competently do both.
Couldn´t find the information I was looking for in all those ongoing update pages. Does anyone know if traits are going to be reset with the patch tomorrow? I´d rather take some screenshots then today (instead of figuring out the builds I had on my characters tomorrow).
GW2 PvE is a (failed?) experiment in no trinity gameplay.
All classes can survive any encounter without need of outside support, with base vitality, and base toughness…using only dodge and skills that actively mitigate damage. Meaning that all stats should be pumped into dps output.
Classes have roles, mesmers and guardians are “support” with reflections, condition removals, and skills only available to their class like time warp or virtues. Every class with the exception of necromancer and engineer also have support roles that need to be fulfilled. But just because they are “support” doesn’t mean they need stats in anything besides dps, all the things they use to support work just as good in zerker as they do in clerics, the difference is 2-4x more dps output (faster fights, less time to mess up, allows to ignore some mechanics compeltely… and lets face it faster is always better.)
Ranger must use spotter and frost spirit (those that don’t are a waste of space honestly, and there are A LOT of you out there)
warrior must use banners
ele must stack might via fire fields
etc…
To “fix” this the core game has to be completely redone from traits to stats to the encounters themselves. The crit dmg changes are not solving anything and is an extremely lazy response to terrible players crying about the “zerker” meta.
people seem to enjoy it and it thrives economically. Where exactly is the fail? Fail does not equal “I don´t like it personally”.
also true. But I believe it makes more sense to believe Anet does not screw over their players than to believe they do.
Screw? You could call it balancing. This player gets to much profit from mystic forge? Well. Thats enough. Lets lower his chances a little to balance it. This player makes a 50g a day by farming? Well…he sure wont miss few rares/exotics as drop. This player playing a lot less, than before, maybe we should cheer him up with a little exotic here and there? For me, it makes much more sense, than just some farm limiter.
if this was the case and it would be ever confirmed (by some whistleblower or whatever) it would be the death of the game. Very unlikely to take such a risk. And it would be screwing with players, at least without communicating it.
There is another parameter, that people forget to mention. Did your friends returned from a long offline period? Or do farm a lot more, than your friends? There is such thing in this game, which called diminished returns (DR). If u was farming yesterday for a whole day and, then, today, tested your chanced with a friends, who was away for a weak from the game….I would totally expect such results.
The “offline” mechanic is a rumor. Sure, diminishing returns is a thing, but it doesn’t work like that, it doesn’t take days to reset, I believe it is just 1 hour in a different area, so you can still be logged in.
U never know the truth, until they reveal the code of this DR.
As for myself, I believe they added DR for almost everything. It could be value of materials per week. Or per month. It can even account for mystic forge.
I play for almost every day, but when i stopped farming for around a month and then came back….u know what? My drop was really good for a few days.
*You. It’s not that much longer to type and changes the disposition of your message immensely.
The diminishing returns rule has been elaborated upon from devs in GW1 around Factions. It’s pretty widely known that if you stay too long in one area, it diminishes. You can resolve this by going to a new area and playing there for a while or coming back a day later. It’s been that way for the longest time.
It was believed to screw over bots but they said that they didn’t want people heavily farming in a single area either. It did nothing for bots as they had many accounts and would just power through.
A small history lesson for you.
Yeah. So a few words from a dev and u believe it? They also said, if they would reveal full mechanic of their DR, it would make it useless. So they wont. So yeah. U basically know nothing about DR. Same as me. Or anyone else, except devs. We could see only one side of the big box of DR.
true, but Darkobra does not draw unfounded conclusions like you do. You can either accept that you were just unlucky in the past (unless you have a large sample size of your own drops and of a greater amount of other players doing exactly the same thing over exactly the same period of time with exactly the same MF which I believe you will very probably not have) or enter some Descartian dilemma of conspiracy theories about how Anet is screwing with all the players. Darkobra´s approach seems more reasonable to me…
Id say we both wrong. Yes. You right. I have nothing to prove my point really. So yeah. I should have added, “I believe” or “there is a possibility” and other forms of showing, that i might have been wrong, when was giving my advice. Yeah. My bad.
But he also is wrong by limiting the way DR might work without any evidence. Yes. Its possible, that what he tells us is true. But. There is also a possibility, that he can see only 1 little grain of sand on a sunny beach of DR. And, without any big research to back it up, he can’t make any statements. Same as me.
also true. But I believe it makes more sense to believe Anet does not screw over their players than to believe they do.

You maybe have a class who’s not actually good at tagging mob instead of doing big damage.
Magic Find sound good only for farming mat tbh, don’t even try to think that you will have more exotics, it’s pure luck.I hope they weren’t stupid enough to be unpartied. In a party you get credit for kills even if you don’t tag them.
wrong. The damage threshold is lower if other party members did some damage, you still need to apply some to the target.
