whenever I check for the spider achievement it is usually ruined by one or two players starting the fight alone without enough people near. Not sure if this stems from cluelessness or spite… hm, well, in GW2, I am inclined to believe the former

Make them eat their own words and realize that the 99% can’t afford to WP ALL the time because of the selfish 1%.

this is satire, right, RIGHT? Or is GW2´s playerbase even more abysmal than generally expected? Hopefully the first.

Suggestion: dealing with dead ppl

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Algreg.3629

Anypony who doesn’t rez a fallen combatant is just selfish.

This game is based around helping each other out. If a player has fallen, and is dead, of course it scales the enemy. The game is expecting players to revive him/her. 5 players reviving 1 fallen players is much faster than expecting them to walk back, and the amount of dps contributed by those who are revived already greatly increase the amount of damage your group is putting out (rather then their corpses just rotting). This is just basic math. lets say 5 people deal 100 damage. 1 falls. now your deal 80. over 10 mins, riving the 1 to deal 100 again results in a much higher number than the 4 dealing 80 and yelling at the 1 that fell.

think about the group, and the others playing this game. And of course, remember that this IS just a game. That is what makes a great community.

Think about others, like we did at launch.

this is as wrong as it can get. Dead people, at least in larger events, usually are in a zone heavily punished by boss AOE. Trying to raise them just results in more players dead on the ground. And if there is someone not thinking about others, it´s people lying down there for minutes instead of just WPing back and help out.

Assult Knights too hard to fight?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

I agree that they might need a bit of adjustment, but not too much.

After all, we’ve been complaining for a year that there’s no “hard” content. I would hate to see it made care-bear easy.

hm, first of all, doesn´t carebear usually apply to pve players afraid of pvp and not bad players? Anyways, I kinda get behind your sentiment, but the problem is the way these events are set up. Sticking with your term, regarding GW2´s playerbase, it is not uncommon to have 80 % “carebears” in your event instance and hence your success is heavily tied to their performance… which can be really frustrating. I like GW2´s new direction, but at some point the devs really have to decide whether old school “raidish” concepts are really off the table, with mass events and low map player limits, we have quasi-raids already now. Can as well go the whole way.

so, you are seriously insinuating that any server has less than a reasonable multiple of 150 players?

Well, duh. There obviously are servers that do not have 150 players interested in playing current living story content at the same time anymore. There’s no need to insinuate anything – it’s enough to check for servers without LA overflows.

that may come as a shock to you, but those are two different things entirely.

Semi-expansions via gemstore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

I doubt the gem store. Many dedicated gamers (“powergamers”) care about content and power and not so much about fancy hats and stuff. Those also tend to be the ones who get the most gold in game without the use of their credit card, be it via farming or tp daytrading. For an expansion, most would trade in gold for gems, so no profit there.

so, you are seriously insinuating that any server has less than a reasonable multiple of 150 players? If that was the case, the game would have been shut down already a long time ago. The high fail rate and the meagre rewards compared to the time needed are the reasons people don´t show up. Bad players are frustrated they cannot even dodge a 3 second attack animation and by the fact they have to coordinate their attack instead of running to some random mob and hit 1, good players are frustrated they have their success ruined by bad players. So they both stay away. Not great game design, but certainly not a measurement of server population.

Algreg.3629

So I just tried that “Kill 3 Legendary Clockworks” quest. It is nothing but a DPS test. Can we please stop having quests like these?

These quests are saying:
If you are not using berserker gear, go home.

these quests are also saying:

a) many people are not able to recognize even the most prominent, gigantic red circle on the ground and the following attack animation that takes about 2 seconds to finish
b) many people are not able to realize it is rather improbable to get a complete raise in the midst of an enemy AOEfest and probably not a wise move of others to even try – and hence do not WP back

and some other things after the latest patch. Pure DPS output is really low on the list of problems here.

To encourage players to split up?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

The problem with this: People who read patch notes are probably the kind of players that actually understand what is going on in the game and they will adapt. But the vast majority of players do not read thoses notes I presume. And, let´s be real about GW2´s playerbase here, most people will continue to pound on a knight for 8 minutes and be like “wut, why´s there only zeros?” and a good part does not even notice their damage numbers. So informing players via sources outside of the actual game is a very bad idea.

Suggestion: Queue for EOTM

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

There’s nothing more frustrating than to enter Edge of the Mists only to discover only a few allies nearby (or worse, none at all), and everything on your side is being tossed to and fro like a hot potato amongst enemy servers as they cap everything you have – and you can’t do anything about it. You feel absolutely helpless.

I’m talking about the EOTM overflows.

I didn’t really notice it until I was a victim of the EOTM overflows myself, and I can tell you it isn’t fun.

The suggestion here is simple. Give players the opportunity to move to a more populated EOTM instance whenever it is possible (if someone leaves a more populated EOTM instance for example). After all, all the other WvW instances have it, why not EOTM?

EoTM was created to server primarily as a Queue for WvW. So you’re asking for a queue to enter a queue?

I’m asking for a queue to get into the main/more populated EOTM instances rather than always getting dumped into a completely empty EOTM overflow.

It may come as a surprise to others, but I actually like EOTM and sometimes I get bored of Eternal Battlegrounds and the other 3 WvW borderlands.

that is unfortunate for you, but does not answer the question that was asked. When you turn the supposed “playinground” for waiting for the other maps into a regular WvW map, you would need to create yet another map that serves the function EOTM was introduced for… ad infinitum, cause you will find a player that will advocate his favorite queue becoming a regular one.

Please make dailies feel more natural

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Algreg.3629

The dailies gets completed by playing the game naturally.

If you seek to complete every daily every day, thinking that you really want to earn that laruel for whatever reason, If so, you have made up your mind. It obviously becomes a chore, and it doesn’t matter if they try to make it more ’’natural’’ it will still be all the same. Focusing on the daily every day, with whatever tasks it needs will not change anything, it will not come in any more ’’natural’’.
The only way to make it come ’’natural’’ is just to slide around and playing the ’’natural’’ way and it will pop up even without thinking about it.
Really.

In other words, You think that your way is the only natural way, Sliding around and play things that some people and/or I may not like. You don’t like that I should be rewarded however I want to play.

yes, indeed, we don´t want you to be rewarded. No reiterate your same arguments again.

No, bad idea.

Dailies should not to be forced into a checklist of things to do.

says you, I say as they are regarded as “achievements” (as meagre as they may be), it can be expected to go out of your ways for them. If you play smart, you can easily combine various activities for them. If you don´t even feel like investing those 15 minutes beside normal playing and “auto-dailies”, well, good for you, but then don´t expect special rewards.

Not difficult to write down the list and check them off as you complete them. Even during the most hectic battles, a simple mark by the list item is still easy to make.

doesn´t change the fact that the game is keeping track of those subachievements and could as well display them. If you think having a piece of paper lying around for weeks (eg. Dungeon Master achievements) is reasonable, in 2014 when I cannot remember the last time I wrote anything down in the kitten office, well…

completely false premises. Those dungeons were hard the first few times. But like in every game (or pretty much every endeavour in life) with repetition they become easier. Some players need days for this, others months, some will never figure them out.

Don´t get me wrong, I love that Anet now brings out harder content (and man, does it show, this game´s player base would be totally ripped apart by normal dungeons/quests in most MMORPG), but making dungeons harder will end in the same situation in a few days, weeks, months…

It is very reasonable to start a forum thread about this and consider all “those events” as bad. We were told “play like you want” and it completely ruins the game philosophy to have one map being plagued by such an event every two hours for a few weeks.

loot tagging is just fine the way it is. When concentrating on support, are you seriously saying you are not tagging mobs with any damaging skills? Seems like a l2p issue really.

PS: and as far as I know, support skills have cooldowns. So, what are you doing exactly in between? Stare in awe at those mad DPS people or curse at them for their mad loot skillz?

those achievements are implemented in a very good way. First of all, it stops achievement leechers from ruining the event on purpose (sPvP lurkers anyone?), as they would just dodge each platform and leave their team to wipe. Secondly, man, the average player skill level in GW2 is just sooo horrible. you see people not understanding even the most simple game mechanic even when it is explained to them thorougly and most friendly, makes you wonder if they just do that to spite those “evil elitists”. It is a good thing people have to try over and over and maybe improve a bit – hopefully. I hope we will see more harder content like this in the future, which is still very easy compared to other MMORPG´s raids.

Certainly beats “your stupid game has stupid sounds and you are like that other company I despise and anyway I like that cool small company a lot more and do some advertising for that non-silly game around here, the silly game´s forum”.

pretty much the same in any mmorpg. There are basically the same kinds of players everywhere (with a few exceptions):

a) the truly clueless who just throw together stats that sound cool etc and create useless builds
b) the clueless “you don´t tell me how to play” player with a mission, willfully creating builds that don´t work well, yet believes them to
c) people who copy cookie cutter builds that work
d) very good players who find great potential in off beat builds or come up with builds that work very well in synergy with their playstyle.

the majority of a player base usually consists of a) and c) – and for most players, c) works very well, so that´s were that bias you describe comes from. Suffering are usually players of category d), because when you see an unknown player with an off beat build, you probably assume a) and b)
