How does gw2 hold up vs gw1 (Reddit post)

no, because they are two completely different things. I enjoyed GW1, but I did not expect nor want to replay that same game with updated graphics. Is GW2 fine in it´s own right? I have still no idea :P

Great Guild content but lack of basic tools?

1) Why would you need this? It would only create “seniority”, aka, “I was here first therefore I deserve more” or “stf|_| I was here first you dont know jack”. All negeative stuff, dont know why would you need it, really

2) Never going to happen, stop asking for it! This is a social game, people can be in multiple guilds and they dont have to log in everyday. The first step is “when did they log last?” followed by “have they been representing the guild all the time? How much they add to the guild?” This would give guild leaders the option to start requiring people to be solely representing and logging in a minimun set of time their guild, which defeats the multiguild system and the fact that not everyone can log in every day, edit: also defeats the "invisible logging option

3)Guilds have their own channel already? Anyways, also party and raid, but this one I can definitely see it being added in the future.

4) Agreed, we need this, my guild has the events on guild message but it is not the same.

yeah, and, why not, your guild, your rules. Do you have any long time guild experience in any mmorpg? Guild rosters tend to clutter up with people who left the game months ago. Quite reasonable to be able to clean up once in a while. You can be as “social gaming” in your guild as much as you like, doesn´t mean everyone has to adhere to your personal standards.

Ascended:vertical progression?casual?

1. Yes, for a while.
2. Some, more precisely those who use “casual” as a leverage term. If someone is truly a casual player, he would simply not care about farming for +x percent and be happy if he reached that goal at some point by just playing along.
An outrage from the crowd that wants everything heavily invested and good players get by working hard and focusedly for, preferably for free – the “forum casuals”? You bet!

There is quite a recent great article over at Penny Arcade about how creative work has become running the gauntlet in the internet age. Just look at Mass Effect 3 and the months of personal harassment and threats towards developers. Imagine the internet mob in the ages of Da Vinci, Melville or Michelangelo (to pick random examles), all great works of art would have been corrupted by “general taste”. Must really suck to be a developer/game designer.

3 problems with the next update

1) They will probably be outdated, as it happens whenever gear gets new tiers in games. Your rares were outdated when you got exotics, that´s the way of vertical progression. But I guess it will happen rather slowly for the majority of people if the current aquisition methods of ascended gear are any indicators.
2) I see no indication why those tools should not work
3) no, economies rarely “hurt”, they change all the time, with winners and losers. Nothing needs to be done here by anet.

GW2: Morphing to WOW – 34% complete

yeah? Funny how most WoWheads here complain the loudest about the temporary content (vs. permanent), which is the new course of GW2, and lack of trinity, which hasn´t been exactly introduced into the game either. But I guess it is more fun bashing with negative buzz phrases than thinking your arguments through.

Creating and interpreting polls is really a scientific discipline. Here two pitfalls in yours:
- forum posters or even readers are only a special subset of player types. The vast majority just plays and does not bother to come here.
- overall numbers in your poll are very, very low compared to players

Further, and I know this will certainly cause an outrage now, invested players usually make very bad game designers.

A lot of statements are just plain misleading to polish up anet in the eyes on the public.

“We’re now updating Guild Wars 2 about five times as often as the typical MMO.”

This one is a good example, Anet new contents are really boring and doesn’t really make the game any enjoyable to play. The only real update the past whole year was fractal. Other than that, all other contents are meh at best.

What is boring to a single person is a matter of taste mostly. And do other game companies only release great content with every update or is there some mehish at best too?

The pitfalls of these presents are so obvious… maybe all that LS update business every two weeks has the game designers in too much of a constant rush.

Seriously, if you cannot accept the “lack” of this feature after a year (and countless futile discussions about it), it is really time for you to move on to another game.

how is it not a lack when the devs themselves said they wanted some sort of role for players?

I doubt they meant different single role characters. Especially when it comes to healing as this would inevitably lead to the traditional division. If they wanted characters really pidgeonholed into single roles along the lines they were thinking (which I doubt), they would have to work within the system, eg. change the duration/timers on buffs/debuffs, change how boss immunities work etc. But not changing the core mechanic of combat back to traditional. Don´t get me wrong, I do not want to antagonize you (maybe I sounded a bit too vicious because after a year debating this I am really fed up with the topic) and do not actively dislike “trinity” mmorpg, but everything has its place. I do not want GW2 to be like any other game I can choose from in case I feel like playing that concept.

The Flaws Of Zergplay

I would love that, make dungeons as profitable as zerg farming.

Well, that’s part of the issue isn’t it. Zerg farming is what’s rewarded most. It would be fair to tell people to stick to their prefered playstyle but it is a bit odd if they are not rewarded equally.

Definately, I go over that a bunch in other threads. If more things were as rewarding, especially doing the events in smaller groups, things would be SO much better.

There wouldn’t even be this “OMG EVERYONE GREEDY FARMER RUINS EVENT” thing that happens.

I would love that, make dungeons as profitable as zerg farming.

I sitck to www. Im rewarded the most because i enjoy it the most.

In over 1000 hours of my time spent on GW2 i did maybe 10 dungeons and havent stepped in fractals.

But then i play it to enjoy myself.

We’re getting really close to this broken argument again about FUN, that’s not what this topic is about.

I also do things that I find fun, even if they’re not rewarding, but they should be. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to achieve carrots and grind for skins, that’s what this game is all about and relies on.

The condemnation of farming and farmers needs to stop.

Despite what you’re bashing me for about my stance about Zerging, it doesn’t change the fact that it comes down to poor game design, plain and simple.

Facts? rofl, one more random forum poster that thinks he is most important and his opinion count as fact.

I dont think you realize how broken your “arguments” are. Thats the problem.

Because when quality isn’t assured. People stopped subbing. Then said bad quality game fails and goes free to play.

sorry, but this is nonsense. As the world changes, so do customer habits and business models. I doubt any new “sub” game will achieve a big business success in our age of microtransaction/f2p/b2p climate. Even the mysterious WoW successor, if it ever sees the light of day, would have a hard time trying to pull that off. Not to mention your argument is flawed: Do people happily pay for bad microtransaction model games while denying that for bad sub based games?

Every Sunday I convert 1% of my gold into gems for the purposes of slowly – and I do mean slowly – unlocking all the extra bag slots for my characters. This Sunday I noticed a fairly steep jump in gem prices from last week. This is no surprise, as the current Living Story content is introducing a ton of new gold into the economy. And as we all know, adding gold to the economy faster than your gold sinks can remove it causes inflation.

So, I’m wondering if there are any plans to either dial back the new gold (farmers won’t like this) or add new gold sinks (non-farmers won’t like this).

well, a gold sink like increased prices for the gems perhaps? Or simply a gold sink that will not affect you, but someone else? :P

2. It tells me that there are very talented people in game that I will never be as good as. It still doesn’t change the fact that it takes me 5 hours to complete one single path

That post really was kind of enlightening to me (well, not really, but brought things to mind I already knew). To OP, whenever you think something is easy, it can very well be that you are simply too good at doing it. Some of it is talent, some of it comes down to playtime/practice. Eg. I consider myself a, hmmm, maybe, slightly above average player because I played games and especially various mmo´s for half my life now (and I am very, very middle aged now ) and I consider open world walk through sleeping easy. At first it seems weird to me someone would need that time for a dungeon, well, I guess Mirta is exaggerating that a bit, but still. Without statistically relevant data, it simply is impossible for you (or me) to judge the difficulty of a game objectively. Open world PvE is rather irrelevant in character progression anyway once you are experienced in game and start doing alts. You grab the sweet spots and move on to more exciting content. So I vote leave that part of the game as a nice practice/leveling area for new people.

Don't want "Party" as a requirement

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Algreg.3629

Well, loot tagging isn´t that hard these days, annoying none the less, but still: if you are running a build that cannot qualify for loot – assuming you arrived on time for the champ – you really need to reexamine your character (and not just because of loot tagging)

Then you complain about zergs, but apparently want to be part of the farming succesfully – well, I´d call that hipocrisy.

Those parties barely deserve the name. Well, people ask for membership or autojoin. Usually no conversation happens in those parties. They are NO liabilities at all. If even that is too much for you – and those are usually not even required when arriving in time and doing a very reasonable amount of damage anyway – you really have to ask yourself whether an mmorpg is really the kind of game for you.

Anet, gw2 hardcore or casual?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

Since the beginning of the game, many changes have been done that made the game either more ’’casual’’ or more ’’hardcore’’. Many people don’t necessary see this , but it’s pretty obvious. Take for example those things:

-Personal Story – There have been complaints about personal story not being casual enough since many missions are hard by design unless you are X class or unless you bring friends to help you

- no, they are extremely easy to finish

-Recent change to Risen: Apparently Anet have fixed a bug to the Risen unit which magically gives risen 100 extra skills that hit for even more and also the morale of escort quests for temples that makes those quests nearly impossible

- didn´t even notice and I am hardly a top player. New scaling makes some quests impossible to finish though when some area zerg arrives, especially since they are mostly concerned with tagging champs.

-Fractals: Fractals are not for everyone since it takes an insane amount of time where you have to deal with supposedly the hardest dungeons in game filled with jumping quests and traps

- they are not that hard, but require a lot of time. Certainly not “insane amounts of”, more like traditional mmorpg raids´ amount of time.

-queen’s gaunlet: Pretty obvious even though it was plagued with bugs.

- like? seems to work fine.

The game used to be casual but now turns more hardcore. My question to Anet is really this: What kind of gamers do you really want? You cannot please all the parties because no matter what you try a side will always complain.

- no, it turns into not auto-complete, a direction which will hopefully stay that way.
