there are more complex games out there and gw1 certainly was one when it came to skill synergy, but from your description it appears you are not even making use of the options GW2, which you call shallow, offers you.

If you really play like that, you are certainly underplaying any class. Sure, you get by fine in open world PvE, but even there you´d be way more effective if you put some more thought into it. Not to speak of dungeons and fractals.

Why would you call for a more complex system when you are not even exploring the complexity of a proclaimed shallow one?

whats wrong with flipping?

There is no “value added” to an item from flipping, just profiting from other players.

If the general consensus is that flipping, speculation and market manipulation are ok from the majority of players then I have my answer. I’m just disappointed in the answer.

Playing the TP makes the most money, I know. I just thought there’d be more people who thought this isn’t right.

Seems I’m wrong.

goods do not have any intrinsic value, their value is what anyone is willing to pay for them.

Speculation and “manipulations” do not harm markets unless they are initiated by a monopoly, that is a common misunderstanding of markets in the real world, as well as it is in game. Please, no commie … in GW2.

Double tap dodging?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Algreg.3629

Some of the best dungeon players in the game only use double tap, they dont even have a dodge key bound. The only person who I know of, that has solo’d Lupicus on every profession uses only double tap.

Since, according to your post bellow, this was directed at me: That only means they would be even better players if they didn’t.

Again, the training wheels dilemma. Maybe someone is really, really, good at riding a bike with training wheels on. They’re still gimping themselves and their performance will only improve once they take them off.

There is no room for discussion on this one. You can be more comfortable with it, and maybe you can even be good enough , but it’s an objective and demonstrable fact that double tap is just bad for your performance.

Also: Source please.

First of all, as funny as you think your analogy is, it is just way off the same. According to you dodging is faster = easier with a single key, doubletapping is unnecessarily slower. So, no, it is not a training wheel, but I can see how that makes you snicker in your own grandeur, so just keep on using it.

So, if that assumption of yours is that objective and demonstrable, care to share some of your valuable research data with everyone? No anecdotes, no “every good player I know…”, numbers, reaction times, recordings and sources. Well? Yeah, thought so…

Well if they stop making huge shoulder pads like in wow then they won’t relate it to wow.. It’s a legit comparison so get over it.

The one not getting over something here is you, namely WoW. If you cannot come up with an argument why something is intrisically bad or good, drawing comparisons to another game you do not like is irrelevant as an argument against something. Things may be bad in WoW, but they are not bad BECAUSE they are in WoW. Not a fan of huge shoulder pads myself though.

The shop prices are really high in general and I can imagine that rather costs them money than earn it. Many items exceed what I like to call my personal wine threshold. I played 2 other games that shifted from subscription fee to microtransaction and the prices were just that low that you would execute the “oh, what the heck, it´s just a few bucks”-click when playing rather tipsy late at saturday night. But here, I never felt that compulsion. Just look at the infinite gathering tools. 800 gems – 10 Euro for just one character, that is too unappealing even for an impulsive transaction in my opinion. I can see they need higher prices than many other microtransaction MMO because of the option to pay with in game money, but the way it is now, a lot of potential buyers are probably put off.

Will Champ rewards kill cond builds in PvE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

Wow, between the lack of responses and the lack of favorable comments from those that have (thanks btw) it seems like condition builds are already dead in PvE (aside from the occasional solo fanatic).

That’s a shame really, as the lowly role of conditions (and CC) in PvE makes for boring fights:
“Can’t CC the boss. More conditions won’t make a difference. Guess it’s just hit, hit, hit, and dodge any attacks.”

I have no idea what you are cross about, unless comments were deleted already.

Anyway, unless they change how tagging works, condition builds should easily be able to get the champion reward. If you are not able to deal enough damage on a champion to tag him, there must be really something wrong with your setup. It does not take much damage to be eligible for rewards.

Straw man.

PvE players are not asking for access to everything any more than WvW players are. PvE players are not asking for WvW achievements, sPVP or tPVP achievements or more ways to earn Glory. A large portion (maybe a majority) of PvE players want a hard split between PvE and PvP.

I would say a many if not a majority of sPvP, tPvP and WvW players want the same thing. When I was running in WvW to get my 500 badges for the Gift of Battle, Commanders talking on the Blackgate Teamspeak made no bones about not wanting people coming into WvW maps to do PvE and creating queues for people who wanted to WvW (however, I cannot help but wonder how many of their avid WvW players came from PvE’ers who would never have tried WvW without the mapping and Gift of Battle requirements).

ANet, I think, is slowly being dragged in this direction. It used to be impossible to do monthlies without WvW, and quite difficult to do dailies if you only WvW’ed. That is changing. Now I did not have to go into WvW to get my badges (I resent all the time I spent running in WvW for badges now). It was the same with Faction in GW1 and early GW1 PvP.
[/quote]

if you do not have some new definition of the concept “strawman”, I have to disagree. If you care to explain how I am employing those sophistic strategies, I am eager to listen. And yes, I agree the behaviour you describe isn´t justified.

if meta-achievements were not achievable without the pvp part, things would be different, but they are not. Whether that argument gets old in your eyes is in no way relevant as long as you cannot bring up a convincing argument why PvE players SHOULD have easy access to everything.

Who said anything about easy, i’d say there are more people that can’t finish that puzzle with or without enemies, same with skipping stones or aetherblade… Like i said I do OS in no time, blowing past enemies before they can even get a skill off most of the time. I WvW on occasion as well. But, i can see the point being made that those achievements (pretty sure explorer is about as Meta as it gets) are actually required to at the very least, participate in a PvP environment. So, there is no argument, there are PvE centric achievements that require some aspect of PvP inclusion, there are people complaining about it, doesn’t make them entitled.

you keep to your definition of those being PvE by nature, I keep denying it by them being in a PvP zone, we will not reach a conclusion, guess that´s about it.

It’s really the same issue with world completion, MANY PvE people just don’t want to play PvP and being “forced” to, to earn PvE based achievements rubs them the wrong way. Associating jumping puzzles with PvE content isn’t hardly out of the realm of reality either, considering %90 of them are only found in PvE.

Among today´s Daily: Daily Mists Tower Capturer, Daily Mist Land Claimer, Daily Mist Invasion Defender. In Monthly: WvW Player Kills. Does any PvE player complain about not getting those? Sorry, I cannot help but seeing there is a big chunk of AP to be had for completing a rather bland jp (in itself) and pure PvE players not able to make it because they are unwilling to delve into PvP even on the smallest scale. Which is fine, but that does not entitle them in any way.

Including Dailies for WvW players to achieve is perfectly fine, wanted even. Tying a mostly PvE activity like map completion and the kite achievement is something different. It’s getting old hearing people use entitled as an argument for people that don’t want to do certain activities but are required to if they want to earn those achievements.

if meta-achievements were not achievable without the pvp part, things would be different, but they are not. Whether that argument gets old in your eyes is in no way relevant as long as you cannot bring up a convincing argument why PvE players SHOULD have easy access to everything.

There is no doubt that this puzzle draws the sadistic sorts who play the game. They seem to get huge pleasure from taking a position of overwhelming advantage then frustrating other players trying to do the puzzle. If this behavior was taken out of the twisted world of online gaming and applied to “real world” activities, we would think something was seriously wrong with the people who do it.

Like for example people who play paintball, knowing full well it hurts when they get hit? Or going into the bump carts at the fair? How about the stuff freshmen have to endure to get into their clubs? Kick-boxing? Kennedy March? There’s a whole range of activities based around the premise that participating can and will hurt you, the other or both.

If you go into the Obsidian Sanctum, you accept that you can and will get ganked by other players. That’s the premise, the catch, the thrill. Obviously there’s a reward to make all that worth it.

So let’s ask it again. Why do you want the World vs Kite if not for the thrill of getting it?

No.

It’s not like paintball at all. Paintball is a competitive event wherein both sides are more or less evenly matched, and have the same opportunity for offense and defense. Same with bumper cars at the fair.

Campers in OS however, assume positions of complete advantage, or in the case I mentioned use subterfuge, to “gank” other players who are completely helpless and vulnerable. Their sole pleasure is not in the challenge of what they are doing, but the satisfaction they get knowing they are frustrating/annoying other people, people who are pretty much powerless to do anything about it. Period. That, IMHO, is pretty warped.

The “hazing” you mention of fraternity/sorority applicants is actually a good analogy. That also is a sadistic form of enjoyment.

no, that is not warped, but taking advantage of your position/situation. What you do and should do in a pvp environment. I cannot see the fun in camping for hours, but you are certainly not the one to decide whether there is something wrong with them, actually, that is a reportable insult now that I think of it. But I guess real world decency isn´t that important when you imagine yourself sitting on some moralistic white horse.

Hahahaahah…reportable insult? I guess you can feel insulted if you want, and if you do then by all means “report it”. Since I was not replying to anything you said, nor mentioning you, nor mentioning any specific person whatsoever, I don’t really see it though. I guess I was characterizing a behavior though. Until this point I did not realize it was one that you engaged in. So if that offended you, I apologize.

Moralistic white horse? Meh, maybe. I guess I try to. Do you think the ’net should be free of morality? Many do, but I disagree.

If you would care to read, you would have noted I am excluded. But I guess that is asking too much of you. And the morality thing, well, figure that out yourself. Cannot say I have seen some dude not making a touch down in a game because the other team would have their feelings hurt. Your equation of altruism with an ethos in general really speaks of a very limited education in the field of philosophy btw.

More like doing an RPG larp (say, a Vampire social meet), and then telling participants – “oh, by the way, we’ll be playing in the middle of the paintball range, and the paintball players were informed we are free targets. Have fun”.
Anet specifically and intentionally created a situation where lot of the players were going to the PvP area for reasons that had completely nothing to do with PvP. It should be no surprise to anyone that those people did not get any enjoyment from their one-sided participation in a gankfest.

no, those LARP guys were told beforehand that there could be paintball players. And while that ganking is certainly unfortunate for the pure PvE enthusiasts, I have yet to see a convincing explanation why everyone who shuns PvP should be entitled to get every achievement. There are a lot of pvp achievements in game and no PvE player seems to have an issue with not getting those. And no, LS and world completion are not by definition PvE only achievements, they are what anet makes them to be. And it happens to be pvp in this case.

a) was it really an exploit or some legit strategy to bypass mobs (portaling, stealthing etc.)
b) if it wasn´t a “real exploit”, did the party explain their strategy to you and did you try to do what was suggested or did you refuse to follow the strategy everyone else was agreeing on?

Here are my experiences when farming this event:
-People initiate the event, and begin farming it.
-Others join.
-Some people want to go to Arah, but heaven forbid they guest!
-Farmers inform the people wanting to finish the event that it is open on X server, and they can guest there to enter Arah.
-Dungeon runners refuse, demanding that people finish the event.
-Farmers keep farming, tensions are high.
-Event completer dies, spurts abuse, gets revived by farmers.
-Abuse is traded back and forth between the two groups.

Here’s the thing.
CoF is good to make money (it’s pretty much exactly on par with this from my experience), but I’ve seriously gotten sick of CoF. (Would have completed it about 200 times by now…). Nothing else gives quite as much money.
The farmers have always been polite about requesting the others that they don’t attack the giant, and that they guest to X server where Arah is open, but they don’t want to! This is when abuse starts getting flung around.

True, sometimes it’s the farmers who become rude first, but other times, it is the “completors”.

What really gets me is when “white knights” decide to end the farm just because. There is a particular guild on Sea of Sorrows who will decide they just want to stop the farming. They don’t want to do Arah, they do not care about the chest event after, they just want to stop the people farming it. So they recruit in Lion’s Arch, and the event soon ends. After this? Sea of Sorrows people move to a low population server, and begin the event chain from scratch.

You know a solution to this entire thing?
Implement multiple ways around the game to earn ~10g an hour at 80. This is what you get from CoF and Gates. With only 2? Of course this is gonna happen.

Oh yeah, look forward to the CoF P1 nerf incoming soon. No more gold from repeated runs!

One more note: I like it how the person with the screenshots from page 1 actually had their bags full, and then empty in different screenshots, indicating that they were participating in the farm too. Nice one!

from what you describe the main problem seems to be people demanding that other players have to comply with their intention. No, dungeon runners should not have to guest, irrelevant what happens on other servers. The dungeon runners themselves are in no place to demand of anyone to finish the event, if they cannot complete by themselves, tough luck, farmers can farm however they like to. Well, and the exchange of “nice words” needs no commenting I guess.

I find it amusing how anyone can even claim to be elitist in a game that has no raiding or anything that requires a large guild of organized people to pull off. For example, raids in EQ1 or EQ2 or vanilla WoW back during MC and BWL and i’d go as far as to say even Cthun or Twin Emps in AQ40. Dungeon runs here remind me of facerolling EQ1 open world dungeons with full PoTime gear on. You actually have to try and die or go afk to make a sandwich while half the dungeon beats on you.

Of course those days of MMOs are pretty much gone since everyone cried and wants to be spoon fed epic gear and then claim they worked hard for it……regardless, if you got kicked from a group cause they were too lazy to ask or explain their exploit to you, then you are better off without them anyways.

the actual challenge of a task/field of practice has nothing to do with being elitist, it is a matter of self-perception, you can be elitist about washing the dishes.

GW2 also does not feature a power attack on R1, no headshot kills and no chi projectiles on rotating from down to horizontal. Or in plainer words: It is its own game with its own mechanics, it is irrelevant what wow or any other different game does with its UI.

I don´t mean that in any way caustic, but really, you come to like the game mechanics of GW2 or find something you like better/return to something you liked better. The game is still young and will probably see a lot of changes even in the near future, but I doubt it will ever get a major overhaul of core mechanics like the 10-slot skillbar.

the weekly OS complaint. Anet has really some class, after all the Sky Pirate complaints putting a LS reward in there yet again. Classify it all as you like, it is an achievement in a pvp zone, getting to a chest with pvp rewards. It is pvp. Unfortunate you cannot boost your AP easily, tough luck. The LS meta achievement offers ways to complete for a broad range of playstyles. Is it unfair camping chokepoints? Of cause. Welcome to pvp zones.

Fortunately not everyone thinks like you….a bit of human kindness goes along way. Just because it’s a PvP zone, doesn’t mean people have to forget basic decency. Someone from an opposing server actually helped me find my way near the end of the JP, and for that, I /bow to them.

which was nice of him, but in no way his obligation. And certainly it is not an act of indecency to kill you in a pvp zone, personally attack me about my alleged morality however you like, it does not chance that fact.

PS: I never camp that area mainly because to me it seems like a really boring undertaking. But I have slammed my head on my desk often enough trying to get through eg. last weekend. But I accept the achievement for what it is, a jp with pvp in it, sometimes to my detriment. I am not entitled to that achievement and neither is anyone else.

WvW belongs to PvE ,so if we have repaircosts in PvE, why then not also in WvW?

to make death matter and encourage trying not to get killed.

Because in PvE you can pick your fights, usually when you die there is 99% your fault. No, really, how bad do you have to be to die 5 times in 10 minutes in PvE?!

I sorry, but WvW is sPvP with PvE gear, nothing more, it should be treated more like PvP, in PvP there are players vs players, deaths are naturally going to ensue, discouraging death discourages fights, discouraging fights encourages safety, encouraging safety encourages zergs.

no. taking risks is a tactical decision. Yes, pvp involves death, it is up to each player to minimize own defeats and maximize enemy losses. WvW differs a lot from spvp which is more like a sports event, wvw tries to emulate battles with ressource consumption. Enemy coins are one of those ressources. Battles are not usually won by corpse flinging. RL battles that have been purely won by attrition usually had a tremendous cost for the winning side. You may want to google Pyrrhic War. Or maybe not, whatever.

yes, but that is beside the point. Stop the strawman, this here is not about exploiting or call it clever maximizing your output, but about farmers wanting to tell other people what to do. Noone can complete your CoF 1 run before you claim your reward, the analogy isn´t anywhere close.

You’re the one that took this entire conversation in the direction of exploiting in the first place. I said it before and I’ll say it again, our server/guild/farmers never verbally abuse people wanting to complete the event as fast as possible. We politely ask them to join us in farming and if they choose not to we let it go. Yeah we’re kinda kitten ed off cuz we did all the pre-work and now don’t get to farm, but that’s life. 95% of the time if there’s any verbal abuse it’s coming from the other players themselves and is directed towards us.

OP started the thread with it and I did not say you did it personally. Of cause, verbal abuse on their part is as despicable and should be met with ignore/block/report just the same.

It’s not really an exploit.

The first defense line of any exploiter. So let me get this straight. The definition of an exploit is the following:

You see a strange behavior happening giving you profit beyond what is normal. You observe that you can repeat it. You repeat it to get profit beyond normal. You’re exploiting.

Prove me that you are not using this pattern to the letter in your case and I’ll withdraw that accusation of exploiting.

Ok so everybody that speed runs CoF p1 is, by that definition, exploiting. It’s the same concept. Don’t try and say “oh somebody just found the best team comp that works really well and their pro skills let them finish the dungeon quickly and repeatedly for good profits.” It’s the same exact thing except one is a PvE event and one is a PvE dungeon.

Also idk where you got your definition of exploit from but the gw2 definition is “You will not exploit any bug in Guild Wars 2 and you will not communicate the existence of any such exploitable bug (bugs that grant the user unnatural or unintended benefits) either directly or through public posting, to any other user of Guild Wars 2.”
I don’t see anything unnatural or unintended about farming an event for loot, especially when that event is going to be completed in due time.

I’m still waiting to get banned after someone reported me for “farming/exploiting” anchorage farm.

We farmers should form a union.

I support this 100%

yes, but that is beside the point. Stop the strawman, this here is not about exploiting or call it clever maximizing your output, but about farmers wanting to tell other people what to do. Noone can complete your CoF 1 run before you claim your reward, the analogy isn´t anywhere close.

You see a strange behavior happening giving you profit beyond what is normal. You observe that you can repeat it. You repeat it to get profit beyond normal. You’re exploiting.
im leading the event to end,we cant repeat it after it done like 2 hours.U will get more profit(loot) when the event scaling to maximum..

you adamantly keep refusing to see the point. Farm all you like, but if someone ends the event by, well, doing it, you have no right to complain. Even if the intervall would be 2 days or 2 weeks.

Oh poor boy. You exploit and when people want to do it straight you blame them?

I don’t really expect players like you to understand. I’m just giving our half of the story, like it or not.

in which you clearly and extensively explained why and how you “exploit” the event if one would like to classify it as that. I am not blaming you for wanting to farm badly, anet is really strange with their grind heavy content and their antagonism to the grinding process itself, but well, it is that way. blame the game, not the player… especially those who are just playing the game the way they want to play which happens to be in the line of how this event is designed. You can lament that someone breaks your event farming, but certainly not blame him or even abuse verbally.

what do you mean “warlocks/mages”? All of the magical abilities you ask for are in game, plentiful. Guess you want the wow classes transfered 1:1 into GW2. Well, if you want to duplicate that game, why not play the original I wonder?

as always in these occasions, the advice would be: ignore/block annoying people, report/block abusive people. This event does not belong to a group of farmers, complete what you like to complete. Consider yourself lucky for every unpleasant player you block in these comparatively irrelevant events, reduces the probability of ending up with those in dungeon teams and the like.

OK, its confirmed.

This is a bad troll gone wrong.

Nothing to see here folks.

nah. Forceful attempt of using big words, not reacting to what was actually argued… seems more like some kid.

actually, the dungeons make a lot of sense regarding the main story (war against the dragons), but, as you obviously prefer “standing outside of them”, of cause you do not realize that. As to armor skins, well, the game is connected with a magical query fairy. She is called Google.

There is a hidden feature in this game, known only to the top-notch of players: You have a secret key on your keyboard that will move your character out of red circles, which tend to announce AOE attacks, a “dogde” if you will.

Focus of 2013: Get rid of zerker builds

let people play their zerker gear builds, even if I am not a big fan of the pidgeonholing caused by current pve mechanics. The major problem with the zerker gear – or rather with other stats – is the syngery of attributes. Power, precision and crit damage have a huge synergy, the rest meagre ones to none. They need to raise the advantages of other builds/gear, not punish zerkers.

Lowering resolution helps too.

lol you’re suggesting to lower rez (from only 1080p) in 2013 o.O . I’m not playing on a Dell pc from bestbuy lol lowering rez should NEVER be an option.

Most people still don’t even have a high definition monitor with their PC’s, you do realize this? If your computer can’t handle the resolution, I would say it IS an option :P

No lol i can handle games like metro 2033 (without DoF) or TW2 (without ubersampling) maxed out, gw2 shouldn’t even be a question. The large majority of people using their pc’s to game are on 1080p screens.

metro 2033 is an old game. My laptop can handle it O_o. Can you handle high performance games that came out this year? Lara Croft? Crysis 3? Because Guild Wars 2 has highly improved graphics and is an MMO which in itself is very demanding. It also came out in 2012, not in 2010 (which is when metro came out). Then compare it to other MMOs that came out on the same year – how well can you run, for example, Terra?
edit: what game is TW2? I googled it, I don’t have it on my steam and have no idea what it is. I’m curious.

Are you serious? Metro 2033 is in the top three most demanding games out now, yes, 2013… Tomb Raider all maxed without stupid stressfx runs at 50fps+ (this is far from a demanding game lol this is a console port…), crysis 3 maxed (shaders/shadows on high instead of Ultra tho) ran at 43-60 fps. TW2 is The Witcher 2, best looking third person game available in 2013 even though is a 2010 game (looks a gen ahead of crappy tomb raider 2013). I’m playing with a gtx570@ core 920 and i5 2500k@4.3… i shouldn’t be playing gw2 at ~15fps on the lowest possible settings in wvw.

it must be one of those glitches I was talking about then. When PC is far beyond the requirements, but for some reason game runs slower than it would on a calculator. I don’t really think that such hardware miss-matches will be fixed though.

There’s no such things. It could happen when your drivers are outdated, that’s it. Mine aren’t and the reason why gw2 runs so poorly is because its almost 100% cpu dependent, which is extremely stupid and the reason why the game runs at same fps (in zergs) no matter what settings your game is at. This is what needs to be addressed and in 8 months we got absolutely nothing, nothing to the point of not even mentioning later this year optimization.

There are no such things as specific hardware to hardware and hardware to software issues? Right, guess it is time to stop following this topic here.

so what defines a pvp skill is you personally only preferring to use it in pvp. That is as bizarre as it gets I´d say.

wow, condition removers are pvp skills, that is like… an exotic assessment.

Most of the temples are rather popular chest events in the evenings when there are lots of players logged in, at least on Gandara. Cursed shore has become unpopular not because of becoming “harder”, but due to event farming nerfs, it just isn´t worth roaming there anymore.

Finally, if you are so keen on uncontesting, how about YOU bring players together from guild or map channel? But I guess that is considerably more work than having the obsidian shard vendor handed over to you, right? Pretty much like the crowds at Shatterer wp complaining noone is doing pre-events.

….

same usual common denial people answered so many times i don t think need further debate.

So forgive if i won t answer.
You can find any answer you need on other topics or on Google.

I obvously am pessimistic due to the bad expeirences i had with their updates till now…

Even back in november people tried to deny they were introducing new tierS <===

1) ascended
2) legendary
3) infusions

As was really clear.

no, not at all clear. I was quite disappointed when they added a tier to grind for, but you are making up these additional tiers. Legendaries were announced to be always in the best tier, which means upgrading their stats to ascended if there ever were ascended weapons introduced. Infusions are upgrades on ascended items just like exotic gear gets exotic upgrades.
