Running around in Orr can be annoying as hell and I totally hate the scorpion wire like skills of those undead, but then I think it makes sense in a way. We shouldn´t be able to roam this area with ease. Just kiting through mobs easily from one profitable event to another kinda marginalizes the whole risen army. And it is not nearly as bad as portrayed in most of these threads. If you keep your distance, use your defensive abilites and dodge, you rarely get caught when navigating the area.

well, if I recall correctly, the hate was usually flung against people who liked GW2, not the other way around.

anyway, nice you found what you love. Personally, I will never understand these game wars (or brand wars for that matter) and the emotional investment of people in things they are just partaking in as consumers, not creators. WoW never was my kind of animal, but a game with such a huge name and a steady amount of subscribers in the millions simply must be doing something right. Have fun there

the scaling is fine, I don´t want to see giant monsters (or enemies of apparent fame like the map bosses) been trivialized just because someone happens to come across them solo. The major problem is the ridiculous reward system. Yes, I can solo most veterans and a few champions in the game, but why would I invest like 20 minutes when I get the chance for 1-2 junk items – or maybe don´t receive anything at all. If champions and veterans had guaranteed loot of noticeable quality dropping or maybe a few coins, people would proabably not ignore them. And I am not talking of guaranteed exotics and pieces of gold, just anything reasonable. Currently I can kill 50 or whatever normal monsters in the the time I´d waste on a champion, guess which acitivity is favored by our beloved loot tables?

no. I would find it actually harder to avoid finding myself drawn into 5 events while playing on any pve map. The “too few players” argument is void, the vast majority of events can be done solo without any difficulty. If you cannot do this very easy task, then you do not deserve a daily “achievement” imo.

GW2 loot system , Do you players like it ? yes/no give reasons for both

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Algreg.3629

dungeons give a lot more loot than the end reward as there are chests along the way usually – not that they offer nearly enough items to make dungeon running worthwhile for loot.

For me, the loot system is ok, maybe the drop chances are a bit too low. But what I totally hate is the MF mechanic, heaven knows why they put that dungeon crawler abomination of a stat into this game. I wish it was removed (and people being reimbursed with the materials for the items or something like that to prevent public outrage) – the sooner, the better.

Makes you wonder if there is a single player in this game that likes MF. Certainly removing it would have absolutely no negative effect on the game. Skill Based MMO

I like both. That is exactly why I am so sick of demands to turn GW2 into yet another copy of “that game”. GW2, with all its shortcomings, is a very different experience from most mmorpg. How do they compare? In my opinion, traditional MMO of cause require skill, some a lot, some a litte, but it is a different kind of skill. Coming up with build ideas, invest time in getting just the right equipment for your build, adjusting your character to specific quests. Some games are more enjoyable in that regard, eg DDO offers a lot of freedom in building your character. As far as I followed the Star Wars hype, that game pretty much forced people into a very narrow assortment of cookie cutters (I may be wrong here, so please don´t attack me over this ) and is the other end of the spectrum. Both kinds of plays can be enjoyable, hence I never have told anyone here to “go back to WoW, you suck” (though I played that game years back on a friend trial account for like 3 hours, wasn´t my kind of animal).

well, there where a lot of important things pointed out in this thread by people that do not agree with your point of view, I do not feel the need to reiterate them here. Or just one which seems the most vital: Yes, WvW is mainly a zergfest, but whenever a coordinated group with a plan and probably a voice tool enters the fray, they make the difference. It´s up to the players if they want to run to the next big battle where everyone congregates or stick with a small party, get behind the lines and start attacking enemy infrastructure while the rest bangs their head against a gate/keeps shooting from walls at people banging their head against a gate.

@Rebel Yell: There is nothing evil about the “trinity”. I played tons of games with that concept, still follow one and probably will play more of them in future. Some do it badly, some do it well. But the thing is: there are allready like a million games following exactly that concept. I rather have one game of the genre that is different as I can always choose from a large amount of competitors when I feel like playing “standard”.

all these people saying go to WoW if you want mounts are patethic.. Lets behonest the only reason why 90% of you do not want to use mounts is because WoW has them.. and tbh WoW didnt invented the mounts concept almost any RPG has them.
With mounts GW 2 is just as unique and amazing, mounts won’t change that at all. They only at to the already amazing game.

I personally compare this game more to Single player games like Skyrim and gues what Skyrim doesn’t need mounts, yet they are in the game cause it’s fun and at’s to the RPG experience/immersion of the game.

Saying we don’t NEED mounts if compleet bullkitten .. this is a game you dont NEED anything.. we didnt need the Halloween event yet we have it because it’s FUN. It is the main reason off playing games after all.. and mounts would for me personally at to the immersion of the game.

There is absolutely no reason why GW2 shouldnt have mounts.

Excuse my kitteny english.

ok, let me rephrase then: We don´t want mounts – now my point of view is as legit as yours according to your reasoning.

They are what anet makes them and that clearly includes both playstyles.

Including both playstyles is fine. But 4 tiers of dungeon runs is overkill. Many players simply do not enjoy dungeons.

Can you imagine the complaints if they added a jumping puzzle monthly requirement? This one is on the same scale of ‘do not like’ for PvP/WvW players.

I actually see it as an incentive. There are quite some players that do not partake in this and that activity because they never try, are afraid they cannot do it and similar reasons. Losing out on a monthly completion isn´t a big issue compared to the possibility of people realizing they actually like something they were wary of before.

I like how GW2 removed those kinds of roles. That being said, I see a problem in the balance regarding support and other playstyles (e.g. the ridiculous scaling of the healing stat). I like to play support from time to time – in dungeons, I usually switch from my dps pistol engineer to elixir gun and love it – but it really feels a bit lacking, as much as my tool bar elixir tossing in map pve content. But as the balancing of the classes and skills has only just begun, I do not think it´s impossible we will see some buff to support ability in general.

when you read claims people leave a game for the sole reason of not having mounts, you really wonder what the world is coming too… unless theses games are equestrian simulations.

I know right! Or a jumping simulator! (u see wut i did der?!)

Mounts are simply cool, and all those smartypants who are against the mounts, cant provide one logical reason why.

I do not want to see mounts for various reasons – drain on dev time, need to build an equestrian combat system from scratch (unless they should be totally cosmetic) and so on. But the main problem many people probably have with mounts is not the beasties themselves, but the underlying mentality of “fluffyness”. Mounts are usually demanded by a playertype that also wants cute cosmetic pets and stuff like that and a lot of players oppose this kind of fluffyness. “Mounts are simply cool” isn´t a logical reason either btw. Personally, I hope we will never see any mount in here. Or I hope anet just makes them cosmetics, puts a HUGE pricetag on them and rips off the fluff-faction on a great scale. The money should then go into good additions to the game.

the completion requirements are purely arbitrary. The answer to your question is simply: Because. If you want it, fulfill the requirements, if you do not want to pvp, then you don´t get the reward. What makes you think those are “pve” rewards? They are what anet makes them and that clearly includes both playstyles.

The tendency of filtering every word possibly offensive in any language is really silly. If you keep looking, nearly every word will carry some sexual or whatever connotation in some language. Keep the filters language specific, e.g. english server → english filters. And stop kittening words that have some obscure connation in english either, that language is so colourful and creative, almost every word has at some point been used to denote something sexual. I mean, even the standard MMO lingo word for a bad build is kittened, why, because of that leatherdude in Pulp Fiction?

on vacated starter cities: of cause they are empty. The only thing you really need to do there is getting the map completion if you are into that. After this, you leave the area. LA offers all services, serves as a free travel hub and it is the central place where everyone looks for groups. There is absolutely no reason to hang out in the race capitals, you even get penalized with horrendous travel costs at high levels – which is a shame seeing how beautiful they are. One way to add some more real person citizens would be free traveling to those cities.

Crosssaber, we all understand what you are trying to do, that does not mean one has to agree. I know how you want to help people used to more traditional mmo roles make the transition, but still I think an approach of adjusting to a given situation in the best way your character offers is better than to squeeze yourself into new kinds of roles, fluid as they may be. Computer gamers usually have great problem solving skills, I do not think they need new cookie cutters once they leave the trinity mindset behind.

I do not understand your categorizing. Your fluid role concept is just inventing labels within the well known idea of everyone can do a bit of everything. What is the purpose? Do we need those labels so people can imagine to fill special roles because “Since playing a MMO, most player do wish to have a role” – which I highly doubt btw. The term roleplaying has a totally different origin than filling roles like “tank” etc., if that is what you are alluding to.

You are one hand saying that there are exploits that take advantage of set mob patterns, yet on the other hand you want set aggro mechanics, sorry, that is just not consistent. 90 percent of the so called strategy in most games is taking advantage of easily identifiable enemy patterns. I welcome the unpredictability of the monsters here. I agree with you on one part though: there are quite a few boss enemies in the dungeons that promote respawn to battle gameplay. But at least repair costs are quite high which is at least some incentive not to play stupid.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

there is a lot of strategy involved, even if it were only the builds of the various players and them using the right skills at the right time. Just because YOU may not think about what to do at different stages of a dungeon and rely on luck/respawnfests does not mean everything else acts like that also. You confuse strategy with the static role division you are probably used to from other games, while strategy is a broad concept in reality which encompasses chess as much as boxing.

In other games, LFG as a dps could literally take hours. In this game, LFG as dps takes 5 minutes to get in. This game already fixed what was broken namely spamming lfg for hours on end. Five minutes ain’t gonna kill you.

that is a very bold claim, but even if this was the case, LFG spamming for 0 minutes still beats 5 minutes.

reasons for a lfg tool:
- play the game while having your request running instead of standing around spamming
- not missing lfg requests because you happen to wait on the “wrong” map (and it is really weird where you get to see dungeon party requests sometimes)

I am frankly at a loss about the discussion here. Yes, spamming lfg works, but to reject an adequate tool for party search really sounds like rejecting a lighter because you can ignite a fire with stones. Also, I do not understand the social blessings of lfm spamming. You are putting out the same request, what is actually going to happen, someone sending you a tell “man, I don´t feel like questing, but did you watch the game last night?”

There are good games with realisitc injury consequences, but I´d say mmorpg aren´t the place for that. Also, do you really think you could rebuild the combat system here as easy as that? You are basically asking to program another game – you think this is a request falling on fertile soil???

I may be wrong, but I feel OP is into ganking “noobs” and stuff like that, but does not like to go against real good pvp players in structured pvp and wvw – and if any of the top GW1 pvp players transfered to this game, he will have his derriere handed over to him rather sweetly. unless you cite a really reliable source, I doubt Cantha is really out of the game in future expansions. The point of avoiding competition with asian themed titels of the same publisher seems rather weak in comparison – but I give you justice in as much as publishers DO make weird decisions sometimes.
