If Level scaling was gone would you feel motivated to visit lower level areas again?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

so you basically want to have all areas but frostgorge and orr removed from being somewhat reasonably playable by high level characters for the sake of feeling superpowerful? That seems like a very bad tradeoff and a very silly idea to me.

let´s leave aside your use of that childlike f-word in your opening and that starting a thread with insulting people not being a great idea if you want a serious discussion. You have a point in as much the requirements for the legendaries are really a bit off. But then, the cosmetic things are currently to only long term goals to aim at. Personally, I am not into cosmetic items, but I can see how someone who is could really be hurt by the requirements. But I guess once those items become more common and hence predecessors are in lower demand, the prices will drop so at least you get a bit of relief there. Thanks for referring to me as a boy though, really compliments my aging butt.

There are no .....Classes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Algreg.3629

you are taking the lore (and that is mainly what the classes you are missing are about) of a different game and point out they are missing in this game. Well, why should they be here? Does WoW have engineers or mesmers? Is that a shortcoming of WoW? Certainly not. This game should develop along the line of its own lore, NO druids, but dervishes, NO paladins, but Paragons (well, probably not as Guardians are pretty close). And the day I see a kitten DRYDER announced, for god´s sage I will certainly quit this game.

but you do not understand! this is of cause a conspiracy of anet, in reality, all those servers are totally empty!

16 players fighting it out for the cemetery. Epic, right? Well, no.

We got into this last night and while it was a big giggle at the start of the meetup it quickly turned into a kittenfest when the auto-attack was the only thing working and the heal key bind doesn’t heal and the Moa doesn’t Moa anyone. It was Batman style Flash, Bang, Pow and then players started disappearing. Maybe they were dead and rezzed to the waypoint but I didn’t once get a message to finish.

No it’s not my computer, it’s basically new and I doubt it’s the internet access in this technologically backward country I live in, Germany. After all, there’s a reason why the EU servers are placed here.

So, anyone else get this last night, or lately?

from a fellow countryman, Germany IS a technologically backward country (for a first world state) when it comes to internet infrastructure and if you missed the tremendous lag problems in the first 1,5 months which hindered a huge percentage of German players to play on any EU server I am happy for you.

Two things:

first of, from reading many replies of white knights on simular posts, it’s very clear you must be lying!
You simply must be, can’t be the player number is falling low.

Second: merging servers would be admitting defeat in a way, something that can’t be in a perfect game either.

Meanwhile I’ll continue my leveling journey mostly alone too.

it is a great design choice as it does not force me to team with strangers than turn out to be not so pleasant. Also, you are wrong as dungeons require teams. If you like to play in a group, look for a group, it is as easy as that. Instead you demand people having to play with you – I ask you, does that really qualify for the label “social”?

I checked your survey and it seems it is rather US centric. Do you aim exclusively for US players?

I had anticipated mostly US players, which is why the server list has the NA servers. I myself am US based, hence the census terms [this prevents any messy legal issues with referring to certain races as X, Y, or Z].

However, I don’t discourage input from anyone! If I do get more EU players, I can shift my analysis with that in mind. I just apologize that it’s not as EU friendly as NA friendly.

Is Guild Wars 2 too combat-oriented?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

no. Computer games took the rpg label and did what computers do best: calculate. It is just not possible to have a perpetual immersive roleplaying experience that p&p rpg offers in a computer game. Even the games that did great storywise are combat oriented as this is the aspect where computer games are strong. Even after all the Avatar stuff in Ultima IV it was always about Minoc sells magical throwing axes in the end.

Do you find it hard to get past Level 30/40?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

I am not sure what you are actually refering to as your thread title seems to imply something different than your post. Is it about losing interest in the game after you got to midlevel or do you actually consider the process of leveling up hard? In latter case, no, if anything, I find leveling in GW2 ridiculously easy and the game would probably benefit if leveling speed would be halved, so you stay occupied for longer till new content is added.

Never played anything so horribly bad

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

going down certainly isn´t guaranteed. I guess it was in story mode, which is quite easy to do if players actually play smart and good. Normally, I would have the lenience to say, well, it is the first dungeon and quite a shock to die at the first ghost, it gets way better once you understand every enemy is a deadly threat in GW2 dungeons. But with your childish “I fail, therefore the system sucks”-approach I rather choose the answer: learn to play, and yes, this isn´t the standard mmo with perpetual CC stacking, glad you figured that out now.

The 'Selfish' Player

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

Players should play however they want to. If they succeed, they probably do it right, if they fail, they need to adjust. Apart from me not considering “selfish” being a bad thing, why do you think support players have to be less “selfish” in any way? They want to win just as everyone else, just use a different approach than dps. The tagging mechanic is really a roadblock in this regard, but you do not enter dungeons to tag a lot (at least I hope so, mob farming in dungeon difficulty seems silly to me) and map PVE is just so simple build doesn´t matter anyway in groups.

@Josher: this is no argument for an inspect feature which is a great tool to ruin communities. If someone is playing subpar, what does it matter to you if he runs MF or not? He is bad, that much is obvious enough – with kittened gear or super gear. But I agree in as much as MF is a silly mechanic overall.

Alternate way to level alts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

anyway, the alt problem is as old as MMORPG. As people stay longer at maximum level than in the leveling process, games usually do not have many alternate areas for lower levels. In all fairness, GW2 allready offers a lot more variety than many other games where you repeat exactly the same stuff over and over. WvW was allready brought up as an alternative as long as you do not worry about the actual leveling speed, maybe we get some minigames in the future like Polymock – in a game that gives xp for farming ressource nodes, it doesn´t seem strange to get xp for such activities.

Why do bosses have so much health?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

PS: but to comment on topic: Yes, the bosses could really have some hp removed, especially in dungeons. There is not much resource management involved in GW2 combat. So if you have “proven” you understand how a boss works and demonstrated the necessary skills to damage him without being killed, it doesn´t really matter whether the fight takes 5 minutes or 20 and I´d rather go with 5.

Why do bosses have so much health?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

and still the argument applies. Yes, you CAN play the game in any way you want to, you just cannot expect to win if you play it wrong. You can tell your boss how much he sucks, you can show up 2 hours late to work, but we live in a universe of consequences. Sure, play the game like another game you know, but to believe you are entitled to succeed regardless of the way you play is outright ridiculous.

Doesnt this go against the design though? Whats the point of having diffrent trait trees and skills if you only need to use the “best” and that is the “proper” way to play?

in any game, there are ways to play it “good” – in the sense of reaching your set goals better – or worse. How can you have a system that rewards any behaviour equally? If you are looking for this kind of environment, a computer game simply isn´t the place to be as they always confront you with artificial challenges you have to overcome by adopting artificial sets of behaviour, some more succesfully than others. If you want a I can do REALLY anything enviroment you need to log on to stuff like Second Life.

Bleh, terrible system. They completely destroyed server communities with it and now it’s spread like a disease throughout the whole game. They have the worst gaming community because of that awful system.

If you want to play WoW, go play WoW. This is GW2.

Quite frankly this is not true, I played WoW for 5 years and LFD was the best thing that ever happened to the game.

You want social? Go to SW, type in, ‘look, all im saying is that GW2 revolutionized the genre’. You’ll start a social discussion.

You can crack jokes with your guild mates.

Elitism existed way before LFD, sorry to burst your bubble.

I agree, that attack was unjustified. Though I think it would be better if you leave the word “WoW” out of your suggestions. Sadly, writing “WoW” usually carries the subtext (often not so “sub”) your GW2 sucks and you are stupid to like it around these boards, so even mentioning it inflames people´s temperament a lot (which probably wasn´t your intention). Just because something is in Blizzard´s games doesn´t make it bad, often quite the contrary – I still heartily disagree with your proposition though

open pvp in pve - let players fix the bot problem since anet cant/wont

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

let´s leave aside whether complete open world pvp would be a bad or a good thing in GW2 for a moment. The design or core mechanics of a game should never be changed to fight botters. Whether you like GW2 or not, there is an idea behind the concept and how the game works and adjustments to the game should always be related to the way players play the game. If you start to corrupt your game because of things bots do, you will ruin your game design rather quickly – just look at the DR outrage, it doesn´t bother me much personally, but it is a real turn-off for many players. And that is a comparatively small adjustment.

Would it be stupid to Account bound Gold?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

implementing systems that limit players to fight bots is always the worst way, just look at the DR outrage. So no – no more player harassing, anet should focus on fighting botters head on, not cripple the game options for their players.

If gw1 worked, gw2 will work aswell. No worries, i usually don’t care what other people say, i’m afterall strong not weak Cough.

It’s very rare that a game dies, look around you so many games that have been “dead” since release and yet are still here. Why bother to speculate, you have no idea what will happen next week let alone a few years from now. But gw1 has been with us for 7 years, and gw2 with its hype and amazing gameplay/PvP it will be with us for atleast 10 years, why not you know.. just go with it.

Speculate all you want, but if gw1 managed gw2 will manage… Since most people like this game i see nothing to be worried about.

That is where you are so totally wrong. Most people don’t like this game. Most people actually find this game boring and have left. Hence the title of the thread, Welcome to the Minority.
