dungeons are bad, raids are bad, wvw was bad when world completion was tied to it, pvp is bad. Seriously, this forum makes me wonder if the majority of GW2´s playerbase enjoys anything beside porting to world bosses and autoattack till they get downed and wait for a raise.

Dungeon nerf and TP flipping

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I love it when TP flipper apologists come out. There are so many other things combating inflation, and other things Anet themselves can implement. Both the gold to gem and gem to gold ratio have taxes and are a huge counter to inflation. Also flippers only have a benefit when they compete with eachother to ‘stabilise’ prices of things, which would happen without dedicated spreadsheet warriors in the first place. They are a solution to an artificial problem they create.

At the end of the day they’re an unnecessary barrier between players and theeconomy (this is a video game after all not an economy simulator). Players hoarding huge amounts of gold with the only purpose to make more is the worst type of deflation possible. They’re a crappy symptom of a bad economy, a result of most content being hugely unrewarding whilst a relative and lucky few actively participate in the economy.

And I love it when someone thinks an apology is even needed.

its a CORPG, this is just a fancy way of saying “Single player rpg with optional grouping with other players” aka Diablo.

a description that seems appropriate for most MMORPG today, very much for GW2

if you like that Diablo solo gameplay then maybe you may like it. Its made by the same people after all as Diablo 2.

comparing a group based rpg with intricate team mechanics to a point-and-click action rpg like Diablo 2 is the most ridiculous thing I ever read even around here.

No, OP, GW1 is NOTHING like Diablo 2.

Combat -- Horrendously Bad?

Algreg.3629

GW2 is not “plagued” with action-oriented combat. It features action-oriented combat. I am certainly not a big fan of the game, but your judgement is solely based on your preference for old school style MMORPG combat. Apparently, you want just another average old school MMORPG in a new skin. If you stick to this mindset, you may as well stop, you will never like GW2. If you are able to enjoy a different gaming experience, you can try if GW2 is to your taste.

PS: but maybe there is hope for you. It seems Anet is possibly introducing your preferred play style now. One guy hitting toes, another going woosh-woosh in a safe spot, the rest of the gang going pew-pew from a corner. Some may even hit the back of the feet in another safe spot. Enjoy.

Algreg.3629

well, there is no “guilds”, every guild is a unique organisation. It is completely up to you to find one that meets your expectations. In this regard, I do not really understand the motivation behind your post here. An LFG describing what exactly you are looking for would be more suited than this general complaint.

There are guilds like to one you imagined I suppose, though GW2 does not really encourage them just now.

- vast majority of casual playerbase that has no interest in such activities
- there is little or no opportunity for character progression in the game, so coordinating to run specific content lacks an incentive.
- as for dungeons, you are probably a little late to the party. Most people being interested in them will probably have finished them or run them into the ground. They are used as gold farms mostly and for running the most efficient parts you do not need any guild coordination, there is a scene of knowledgeable, good players that can easily PUG these dungeon paths in their sleep.

You don’t have to understand what people enjoy in order to accept that they do.

I assure you, there are people who are the polar opposite of you, who have done nothing but PvE since they started, and who find PvP just as repetitive and boring as you find PvE. And even if they explain their reasons, you still won’t understand.

I personally, like to play both. I like to switch it up, and do different things when the mood strikes me. But I would never expect everybody to play the same way that I do, either. I guarantee somebody would find it dreadfully boring, too.

I have never heard anyone categorizing any kind of pvp as repetitive and boring in any game. Every match is different, it is the human element.

People stay away from pvp because they are afraid of competitive play and to some extend due to the, well, let´s call it “climate” some pvp players create. I´d say they don´t understand what they are missing out on because of not overcoming those psychological barriers, but in the end, that is their choice and their loss.

PS: I don´t see why this would have to happen in the PvE environment as there are plenty of options for pvp in the relevant game modes.

GW1 still worth it?

GW1 is several times better than GW2.
You can also do virtually every content with heroes, so don’t let that discourage you. It has aged? I would say it has not. Graphics wise maybe, but it’s not terrible and the gameplay, story make up for it.

“I cannot jump.” This makes me cringe every time…. As if the ability to jump would make a game good.

well, I dislike GW2 a lot, but ultimately, such statements only represent personal taste and preferences. A game can be the best game and the most crappy game ever at the same time, as these categories are solely based on opinion in the end. There simply is no objective measurement for art or entertainment, people have been trying to find one for 2k+ years now, without much of an success. Spot on with the jump part, that seems strange.

Charr -- Can't Get Over How Terrible

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

Okay guys, rant post.

The Charr. Let’s be charitable and NOT say that they are a Orc-Tauren mix, and say instead that they are beast race for those of us who don’t want to be Barbie dolls, and also not ugly midgets. As there seems to be no racial bonuses at all in this game, it seems to boil down to aesthetics and story. So far, the Charr story is okay — the ghost invasion thing from the prior human kingdom that got wrekt by the Charr at some point in the past is a little bad, but not terribad. The Legion lore seems cool. The aesthetics, though….

….wow, is it BAD!

Far from being a fearsome beast of war, the Charr simply resemble rat-men with cat faces. This image is promoted by the very unfortunate hunch-backs, skinny legs and arms, the rodent-like stride when doing the run animation — I suppose it is supposed to look cat-like, but due to it’s glacial slowness it just reminds me of a rat. The one feature of the race that doesn’t remind me of rats, besides the cat-faces are the….

Tails.

Wagging tails.

Wagging tails EVERYWHERE.

The extremely prominent swishing of tails, jammed in your face at all times, does nothing except remind me of a happy dog. Swish, swish, swish.

I don’t want to be a Barbie doll. I don’t want to be a ugly midget. Maybe I should roll Norn?

let´s be charitable and not get into your WoW reference for not making you look like an utter fool.

feline creatures feature tails, is that really coming as a surprise?

catlike movement… I suggest you watch some animal documentaries. Have you ever seen eg. a lion move? A 200+ kg feline does not move “catlike”, probably even less so when anthropomorphized.

GW1 still worth it?

Algreg.3629

It’s a very different game. In fights it’s one of the old style, “stand there and duke it out.” There’s normally not much to any moving around. Your char stands in one spot and throws out spells or does melee damage. There is also no jumping or swimming.

It’s certainly weird going back to a game that doesn’t allow you such freedom of movement. That said, definitely worth playing out if the OP is open minded. I went back to GW1 on a new account for a laugh a couple of months ago, after no playing it for 4-5 years and had an absolute blast. Starting with nothing and unlocking everything my heroes needed was so much fun. I initially intended to just play through Factions having had an itch to go back and see Cantha again, but once I finished that, I found myself completing Prophecies, Nightfall, Eye of the North, Sorrow’s Embrace, and unlocking the first 20 items in the HoM just for fun.

yes, Anet of old got the progression thing right – you could spend months optimizing your merry men and having a blast with it. They will never again unfortunately, as progression is bad in the casual market.

How many of you been brought by Angry Joe?

Angry Joe:
A wannabe game-journalist who’s known for emotional fits, spanning over several videos, reviews consisting of overhyping or overexaggerating single features/bugs & usually doing nothing but screaming at his camera to deliver some kind of point.
Does he get my clicks? Sure, since he’s comedy gold, especially since he regularly starts his “Angry-Army” guilds & communities for various games, inviting his followers to join him in these games, only to run off soon after & leave a headless community, doomed to get laughed at whenever they stick up their head in mapchat or game-forums, or die off eventually.
The best part is where he pretends that him giving up a reasonable job for “doing this” is some kind of achievement he has to be honored over, while struggling to keep above the economic surface with t-shirt & other merchandise sells.
I like how many fanboys he has, even tho he kittened them over again & again.

I mean, even the industry regards him as complete failure & joke, resulting in him usually never getting a interview or getting screwed over with very little questions allowed. I guess A-net were the nicest in treating him for a long time with the last HoT interview they allowed him in.

So yea, I know him. I actually like his comedic performance from time to time, but more-so I like how hard he usually fails.

your opinion is your opinion, I don’t agree, but I wont argue, but a thing I must mention, youtube pays ALLOT more than you think, youtubers who gets 100k+ views on everyday video, live very very well – economic wise at least.

not really, youtube pays pathetic prices for content, unless you get into their “partner programm” (sorry, forgot the official term). Maybe Angry Joe is in, no idea, but you are wrong on the general payout part.

He like others will have frequent take down notices for his poor outlooks on games, whilst other videos will stay alive because they’re not negative. This happens to the likes of Total Biscuit and Jim Sterling too.

On what basis? There is absolutely no way a developer can act against a reviewer unless he qualifies for libel. Not to mention the public backlash of such an attempt which only the most incompetent PR person would ever try to pull off. I think these stories are myths and rumours created by their fanbase for the most part.

Algreg.3629

Angry Joe is a man who is good with youtube-videos. Apart from that, he is a single computer playing person with a single, personal opinion. Why would his opinion carry any more weight for me than that of any person in this very forum for example?

Personally, I think he is not a great reviewer. As was already stated, reviewing MMORPGs is a very hard thing, they won´t reveal their value before hundreds and hundreds of game hours, giving a verdict after such a short time almost seems like an ignominious practice to me. There are actually good gaming journalists who refuse to do any review on MMORPG or explicitly state their review can only scratch the surface.

There are also consistent accusations of being, well, let´s call it a little close to publisher marketing departments.

As for personal preferences (remember, this is not an objective factor, my opinion is just my personal one, as much as angry joe´s is his), we could not be further apart. E.g. his Dragon´s Dogma review pretty much revealed him as an easy button-casual game-autowin-fan. Which, again, is fine for him, but does not make this game style any more relevant or great than the opinion of any given user here.

- whether you played GW1 or not is completely irrelevant. It does not give your opinion and preferences any weight – at all. This here is another game.
- the scenario you hope for will never come true. When raids will be implemented, they will either be mindnumbingly easy or there will be so much complaining here that soon they will be toned down to a level even an average GW2 player can succeed in without a relevant risk of failing. Face the facts: You (and I) are a dying breed. In the gaming industry, casual gamers are the thing that matters now. You will find less and less games that will meet your preferences. Gaming will become like watching soap operas: Effortless, meaningless, shallow enterntainment without the thrill and great satisfaction of overcoming real obstacles.

AA is exactly how the people depicted it earlier

If anything they did wait to long and it’s too late they paraded HoT like some horse and pony show across every major gaming show what was the last one Gamescon? We had in game footage months ago and they wanted to parade it infront of the gaming journalism tabloids instead of buckling down. Heck we all know that we have more beta weekends and more weeks were they’ll just reveal a specialization for that entire week. We still have Eng, War, Thief, and Ranger left that’s basically half the classes still if you don’t count the odd revenant.

Now everything will be dedicated to Legion news and WoW’s change in there model design and upcoming changes with the expac. Gameshows, Websites, and so forth will be WoW now. If they truly go to a yearly model then it only becomes worse for this game.

They can continue to run the circuit as they have been doing but the light will be on WoW from here on out. More so because WoD was so terrible and they’d want to push harder or seem like they are to push publicity and regain lost numbers.

yeah, elitism, what a weird idea to want competent people to play with.
