so you are suggesting you lack the ability to improve and adapt by repetition and applying thought to problems, a basic ability every human being has and usually enjoys actually?

yes i’m at my peak right now, my physical and cognitive abilities are as high as they can go i’m afraid.

especially when the problem is mob density and respawn times. no matter how much i try to problem solve i always reach the same conclusion. the company should reduce the mob density and increase the respawn timer. leading to fewer mobs all around the map.

individual mob difficulty could or could not be overcome with my current mental and physical abilities (remains to be seen, i’m very weak as you no doubt noticed yourself). depends entirely on how bothersome, tiresome i’ll find the whole affair. if it feels like working at any moment, instead of fun, i’m afraid i’ll just crack internally. i just don’t have the mental resilience and persistence you do my friend. i’m deeply sorry if that annoys or offends you.

your ability to write elaborate language certainly speaks against that – I rather think you act the inapt fool for some “bad player agenda” you are not actually involved in personally

PS: Though I agree with you in general that “casual” is the way to go when you want to earn big money and keep your game alive. Even as I lament the degeneration of western society, I cannot deny it. And I certainly don´t expect a gaming company committing acts of martyrdom

Now I don’t understand this complains. Seriously i main a ranger ut i’ve been playing with a reaper and a DH. Classes i don’t really know well but i didn’t have any trouble with the game.
Actually i find the trash mobs even easy. I don’t see real difficulty in the snipers and i roam alone.
Did i die? sure, but that happens when i roam mindlessly around not being aware of the environment.

  • For the ones that state this is a casual game The players that began years ago playing it casual now are hardcore. the same that in some time the actual casuals will be. they need maps adequate for they level to ensure longevity, something that other MMOs failed to provide.

Well, you’re a pro, and we’re noobs. Obviously. And not only that, but our skill ceiling is far far lower than yours. I’m peaked already and I die horribly to dead mobs. Yes, i ’m THAT bad.

It is a casual game, I can play it. And no, not all casuals are hardcore now. I joined years ago as casual, and casual i’ve remained. I guess we’re not deserving of anet’s affections and our money are no good? If that’s the case they should really do the honorable thing and let us know about it. I don’t want to blow 100 euros for a game that doesn’t want or value me as a customer. Honesty is the best approach i feel.

The era of MMOs is coming to an end and it’s okay. It doesn’t mean it’s going away, it’s going back to a (larger) niche product. Remember when everyone and their mother played WoW? People who didn’t even play any other game played WoW – it was so strange….

all i know is WoW is / was the game that ruined ALL mmo’s
MMO’s before WoW where hard fun and actually asking for some time to get kitten done.

WoW made everything easy mode casual etc, it ruined all the new mmo’s cus it was a success for the western world while i personally hate it.
i want to grind i want to work for stuff i dont enjoy running dungeons waiting for a drop to happen, i prefer to grind hours endless waiting for that random mat drop that i need in order to craft X it might take me 1 week to drop what i need or the amount but still its what i enjoy..

good luck finding mmo’s like this, nowadays all mmo’s are squeezed into dungeon at lvl 10 till 20 then u go to x dungeon for 20 till 30 etc etc
what happend t o good old open world grinding? crafting? FFA world pvp etc etc all this is gone and ruined by 1 game made for lazy western people who dont really enjoy korean grind mmo’s. many others tried to follow the model of WoW in different ways and all you got is crap game (in my point of view others may like it).
name me a mmo that came out after WoW without dungeons from lvl x to lvl y
tera has it
archeage has it
aion has it
go on with the list..

mmo’s are being squeezed into dungeons, you might aswell make a server list and join a “server” name Dungeon Y 5/7.
like playing a FPS game when server is full the dungeon starts, where is the concept off MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER <<<< OPEN >>>>>>>>>>> WORLD

anyway ill cut it off but in my opinion the name off mmo’s is being abused by dungeon runs only permanently feels like playing a FPS game u just join a lil server and u start doing the run and u go to next party to repeat..

I think you are giving WoW too much (dis)credit. Computer gaming in general was already leaving its niche, the industry going casual was a natural, if lamentable, reaction. Also, art mirrors society, western society has shifted from rational and achievement encouraging to irrational and inclusive. Hence the trained monkey focus of todays industry.

such lists are really useless even if you factor out the unreliability of 3rd party sources like Raptr. How can you compare games like LoL, WoT and MMORPG. People often just play one MMORPG and other online games on the side, putting MOBAs into a list with MMORPG does not say anything about their success.

Also, remember the new WoW, GW2 whatever killer AA? Seems it did not even beat GW2 in that list (though of cause that is not reliable market info either).

Are people moving away from MMOs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Algreg.3629

This is not a rant against Gw2, or any particular game. It’s just something I’ve noted in the various MMOs I play.
People say that GW2 is loosing players, I also visit the forums of WoW, Neverwinter, DCUO, Tera, and others, and you know what they ALL have in common? More players leaving than the new ones coming in.

that is pretty normal for any game. When they are new, you get a peak of players, then slowly numbers bleed. There are really just a few exceptions from it.

So my question is, where are all those players going? Is the MMO genre becoming stale and people are prefering smaller more casual games?

I think MMORPG often are way too similar games in different skins. And many players seem to demand that, causing their evolution to slow down. Just look at all the “I want trinity” threads in this very forum. Many people dislike playing basically the same game over and over again. Then you have devs or probably rather publishers who chase the golden calf of casual gamers, alienating classic MMORPG player types by trying to turn their games into something they are not – MMORPG lose their feeling of investment when being “casual” in my opinion. Some bold devs go into a mad kind of counter-mode, e.g. Wildstar, catering to a “hardcore” audience with game mechanics that were annoying even back in EQ, they understand the appeal of MMORPG as little as casual worshippers like Anet IMO.

But I wonder if people like me are becoming less and less interested in it, and prefer something quicker and more casual, like LoL or maybe World of tanks? (just to name some more casual games)

Even though a single session can be played relatively quickly, those games could not be further away from “casual”.

I’m sure the myriads of healing abilities, healing sigils, healing trait lines and full set of healing utilities that’s coming in with the new class are just some kind of mistake that happened while ANet was making the game for you and only you.

I mean, that is the only logical explanation right? Afterall it’s not like any game ever has self important elitists talking down to anyone who’s asking for a little more parity in the performance of different play-styles. Every time anything is buffed or nerfed or changed in any way it must be a mistake, because clearly the game was made exclusively for the people who liked things the way they were.

haha, now you have arrived at the “elitist” stage of arguments. You have no idea about mmorpg at all I should say. Have you actually ever played a trinity game succesfully or have you just been whining on their forums? Trinity is actually way harsher on personal performance than the GW2 system. I bet if GW2 went oldschool, you´d be one of the first people whining in here about how people are attacking you not being a good enough healer/buffer/debuffer.

This entire topic is about how to bring back the full range of RPG archetypes without enforcing trinity party compositions. I wouldn’t have to tell people we need to construct a whole new paradigm for how support works if I wanted it to go back to what it was.

you have no idea what RPG actually is. Roleplaying has nothing to do with archetypes at all, just with players and imagination. The archetypes you imagine to be vital are mmorpg entirely. I am too tired of your inability to understand anything that deviates from some games you got used to a few years ago to explain this in depth, so just inform yourself about pnp roleplay roots, not that I believe you will actually understand.

I am frustrated about how petty complaints about petty problems can actually become. Leashing is pretty short in GW2, mobs are completely without danger, a WP is usually close, repair costs are gone. This is so petty a problem those “jerks” are very probably not even noticing anything while just speedrunning areas. Play a single player game if you cannot even stomach this non-issue.

yup, it’s a dedicated healer that heals with a tablet. seems like what y’all want right? a class designed to heal.

It’s not about the green numbers, it’s about the ability to dedicate yourself to a role other than damage. The fact that the game has oodles more mechanics for healing than for any other support function with multiple classes, trait lines and gear sets devoted to it just means that people see that as the most logical choice to make a support character happen.

no, the most logical choice is you finally understanding how everyone is also a support character in GW2.

Algreg.3629

This whole “If you don’t want to spec for pure DPS above all else you’re in the wrong game” attitude is honestly what’s stopping this game from actually getting past the trinity.

Instead of working toward a system that moves us beyond forced party composition to a place where you can play whatever you want it’s always just a bunch of DPSers who never want to ask for a tank again trying to have a victory lap without realizing that they are becoming the thing that’s holding the game back at this point.

If ArenaNet doesn’t see that, yea, they are going to be the wrong game for a lot of people the second someone comes along who understands that you can’t just kill off half the RPG archetypes people enjoy because you don’t want to make an effort to make them compatible with a game that doesn’t force party compositions. Half way there just doesn’t cut when someone finally takes it all the way.

It’s sad that so many people don’t believe that this is the game that can actually make everyone happy.

How exactly is anyone who enjoys going the full DPS route harmed by ideas that try to bring other play styles into the game in a way that doesn’t make anyone depend on tanks and healers?

you repeat that over and over, but it does not get any truer. The roles of tanks and healers depend on a trinity setting. a tank is not someone who can take a lot of damage – a tank is someone who takes a lot of damage for OTHER people. A healer is not someone who can heal, he is someone who can heal OTHER people. You can create those now. But noone wants them in parties because both of them are suboptimal additions to your team. If you want those roles in your game, you have to change game mechanics into NEEDING them. And that is not something in the “uhm, you guys just don´t wanna me playing how I want to” department. That will tremendously and dramatically change the game experience for every player. This is really not hard to understand, sorry.

pick one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massively_multiplayer_online_role-playing_games

Seriously, you say the game is great, yet you want such a fundamental change of its core design that will completely change it into something very different. That makes no sense at all. Maybe it will be a better game, maybe it will be a worse game – but if you enjoy a game that is completely different from current GW2 more than current GW2, why don´t you just pick one of the million games on the market that offer exactly what you want, which, by your description, will be greater games for you to play.

The game I would pick instead is GW1 then, it had healing classes. Unfortunately for me they no longer update it anymore.

that is not an explanation, but just an illumination of you original fault. What does appeal to you about GW2? Just the franchise name? You can bemoan it, you can welcome it, but GW2 is as far from its GW1 roots as it can get. Many MMORPG titles are closer to the things you are looking for than GW2, BY FAR. Why don´t you play them? And most important: no, you don´t think GW2 is great then, you think GW1 was great (a sentiment I agree to) and you are enthralled by nostalgia as the actual current game does not match your expectations a bit.

1.Jeweler doesn’t go up to full level like all other crafting

well, I´d say that´s an arbitrary decision about what things can be crafted and what not. I would not call that incomplete.

2. Legendary weapons, two handed sword has three, but all others only have one when two handed swords arnt even the most used.

yes, legendary weapon design is really lacking. GS users can be happy, many other weapon types have a very limited selection, some exclusively straight from My Little Pony Franchise.

Most 5 mans are not skill based but just gear checks its all stack on each other and hope not to die. Whats the point of being ranged if in every 5 man being ranged is pointless?

it is not “hoping not to die”, people actually have to use certain skills correctly. But it is a really lacking system, not unfinished, but a core design flaw. IMO the culprit is trying to go with “twitchy” combat, but not going the whole way.

4.No trading you can only use AH or mail

Passionless about this. Maybe to prevent the major city chat spamming of GW1. Worked sufficiently for me.

5.When doing world bosses you must get there at the same time as your guild or you wont be in the same map. Whats the point of it being a mmo if you can be locked out of a map that your friends are in for being one or two minutes late.

that can be cured easily with some minor coordination, the tools for you guys are there.

Like I said I am new, but I have played almost all the MMO’s out there and I have to say after all the hype I find the game to be kind of a let down end game. There is a big lacking in most parts outside of it’s story. They do the story very well, but SWTOR did it FAR better IMO.

That is a very harsh judgement, I wouldn´t go that far. But I agree, for me GW2 is all polish and no substance.

So what is it I am missing that makes this game ready for an expansion, it hardly feels fully done to me. It seems like the lack of damage meter is just to hid the lack of balance in classes to me.

that is complete and utter nonsense.

Not only they won’t accomplish anything because they are basically fighting human nature, which is futile, but they are making matters worse by revealing their true exclusive nature towards zerker players.

There is hypocricy both ways yes

but mainly this issue is when one side joins a group of the other side and tries to force that group to play their style, but verbal, or physical(kicking) ways.

both sides of the coin are guilty

just dont try to force or expect people to play the way you play, because everyone is different. Your way is not the best or right way, its just your way.

not really both ways. I rarely see zerker – or let´s be honest, good players who know how the game works – start threads complaining about “play how you want” LFMs.

Not to mention how that is rather ironic regarding your lamenting of the 80s only axiom, it pretty much shows what kind of dungeon player you yourself would be if you were in a position of power/competence.

To answer your question: probably a large percentage because of difficulty, though in my opinion that speaks rather against average player skill in GW2 than dungeon difficulty. Even in dungeons the game is a snoozefest for any player of modest gaming skill.

I start this topic because i wanna go over the meta and trinity topic, i m one of many who like the trinity, and i was thinking for alot of thime this game lack of this.
Maybe is true, maybe not or maybe both, i’m start thinking the problem is the lack of content, in other games you have tiers of dungeons or they are the same but it scale difficulty when u became stronger, but usually u dont master them lke in this game because after a while u do other dungeons for have better rewards…
So we will get elitist on speed run, ppl will be kicked from istance etc etc, because everyone wanna do it faster as possible, elementalist war, guard, thief etc etc are fake profession, because everyone is become The Farmer, speed run everything make gold, farm maps etc etc
In other games i enjoyed the classes, the role, here everything are feeling like a way to farm, ppl even sell path!!!

I hope with HOT and specialization we should enjoy more the content without die under the “meta farmer community”

it is the same in trinity games. efficient, good players want efficient, good team members to do content, you guessed it, efficiently and well. It does not matter whether you want efficient, good DPS*5 or efficient, good DPS*X + efficient, good T*X + efficient, good H*X. Stop using this threadbare line of argumentation for a trinity design.

Speed runs are a reality of all MMORPG I have ever seen (sans Eve maybe), as is kicking people not pulling their weight from teams. Both, again, have nothing to do with trinity design.
