no, not really. But you outlevel your gear so fast in GW2, it is not worth bothering before max-gear. Also, what does “for my party” signify? If you are trying to keep up with leveling gear for various professions instead of one character, it should come as no surprise you cannot keep up (if that´s the case).

So I think Anet might be playing with words here and surprise us with some feature that they don’t consider major but us player do.

I’m rather sure they are holding something very major, that you will only truly see on release day.

Something called “massive disappointment”.

sigh, now look, I like lurking around a game I dislike and don´t play anymore to poke fun at it and the “game´s to hard” whining that is prevalent around here like the next guy, but you are really, really uninspiring and boring with your negative generalizations you post into every second thread.

I noticed three things here. First is 50 heavy bags is kinda low for 5-8 hours of WvW play, maybe reroll Guardian or Necro. Second, don’t spend if you want to save. Third, 5-8 hours per day is a lot of time spent in game.

I would only really worry about that last thing.

Shouldn’t have to reroll to play a game effectively.

All profs should be equally viable.

all profs are viable, just at other things. If they were all exactly equal, they wouldn’t be 8, but rather 1 profession ;P

Simply not true.

Other games manage to make all classes/profs viable in every type of play.

No, you will never have complete equality, where you have differences, but the inequality in this game is bad, comparatively speaking.

For example, I was never, ever told that hunters “aren’t for dungeons” in WoW; whereas, I have been told exactly that, re. rangers, in GW2.

….and then, I do WvW and hear that rangers are bad for that, too, most of the time (from a reasonable-sounding guy).

It’s shoddy design and that is not good enough.

terrific, now you have explained to us elaborately how things should be, not that we did not know that before. But this does not help OP a single bit nor was it asked for by anyone.

RNG is a numbers game, right?

RnG is RnG.
There is no game, there is no pattern. Every single time to take a CHANCE, that chance is calculated separately from any other roll.

However ANET does tweak drop-rates often. The mystic forge difference you noticed is such a small sample size however that we can call that RNG.

with 3 years of gameplay i am sure a player can get enough rolls not to call it small sample size.

a) did he record results and premises all the time or did he just come to his conclusion by “feeling”
b) your post indicates that you are not very well versed in statistics. Based on the actual randomness, you could require thousands and thousands of attempts to come to a valid and reliable conclusion.

For the love of god will people stop comparing gw2 gliders to archages? They’re not used for the same purpose.
The glider is small because we’re not gonna be flying with it everywhere, its supposed to be a way to cross gaps you couldn’t otherwise, not kittening go laps around a tree root or smth.

well, at least they could have some semblance to gear that would actually be able to fulfill that purpose. Suspension of disbelief and all that being fine, those things are really not in any way near being convincing in terms of form or size.

Than it won’t be a raid. It will be another zerger

and? You are the one who specifically defines a raid as “something with trinity”. I am somewhat looking forward to your posts if HoT will not bring your beloved system. Are you going to lament then for another 2 years or finally pick up WoW again? I’m appalled at how insensitive you people are. OP said they had a minor panic attack over this, and you’re all brushing it off like it’s nothing. Shame on all of you! This is not how you talk to people with disabilities! I hope each and every one of you have to one day live while crippled by something outside of your control. Maybe then you’ll understand why this is unacceptable.

People are just blown away someone had a panic attack over something so incomprehensibly insignificant. You say the problem is people being insensitive, I say the problem is people being hypersensitive.

The PROBLEM is people like YOU not understanding that disabilities are a REAL STRUGGLE and you can’t just blow them off because YOU’RE not affected by them!

You probably never learned that, because our society is still heavily stacked against those with disabilities, but that’s something that has to change. Have you ever considered that the reason the world seems hypersensitive now is that it was unacceptably insensitive before?

The problem is actually people like you who apparently don´t understand that if you remove everything someone has a problem with you will get a nice white screen to look at all day instead of a game. People with arachnophobia want spiders removed, there are phobias regarding sharp objects, cats and so on and so on. So please remove everything.

The problem is actually people like you who apparently don´t understand how your agenda has already almost managed to turn western society into a realm of mediocrity and the people into government drones afraid to even voice the greatest travesties commited against them.

And last of all, if you suffer a panic attack over a computer game, let alone something like this here, it is not the game that has to change. Then you are mentally highly unstable and should seek treatment (personally I´d recommend CBT) – and refrain from such stressful activities altogether.

BUT: As they just removed WvW map completion after countless “I don´t want to do pvp” whining posts over the years, it seems really, really unlikely they´ll turn around and bring a new pvp mode to pve maps. But then, Anet hasn´t exactly been known to have a coherent direction for this game, so who knows.

Algreg.3629

Spears, javelins, halberds, tridants, theyre all sticks with pointy ends (Halberd being kinda axey, though). They can all be classed under spear because that would be their family group.

You guys seem to choose the most random weapons to fall back on for argument sake. Nukes? Glaives? Nunchuks? Ninja stars? What?

The actual item (Axe) already exists. I don’t think it would take a genius to go “Hey, what if we made the axe a bit larger?”

By the logic in this thread it would seem appropriate to just remove all 2h variants because, hey, they’re arbitrary.

apparently you do not understand. I wrote quite plainly why it is not so easy, but your claim “axes already exist” make it pretty clear you either lack the capacity or the willingness to understand.

Neither do you understand what “arbitrary” means. Hint: it is not the same as “superfluous”.

Really don’t understand all the negativity and hate being spewed in this topic. I never understand why people get bothered when their game gets more publicity. It’s also funny when people act like any game community is some kumbaya fest where everyone gets along. This is the internet. This is online gaming. Where people hidden behind anonymity can and will act like jerks no matter what game they are playing.

The reasoning to be against popular people publicizing a game because it may make a community toxic is absurd. Every gaming community is toxic to some degree. This game isn’t the exception.

No one is telling you to go watch these streamers but don’t act like they are nobodies just because YOU never heard of them. Don’t act like their publicity is bad just because GW2 is your main game. You should be happy that new people are finding out about this great game regardless of how they found out.

The negativity is mostly fueled by OP who has been starting various threads on similar topics as a rather threadbare vehicle to advocate WoW game dynamics and systems (e.g. trinity) in here.

1. a popular WOW streamer is nothing more than a single person with personal opinions and tastes. Playing and streaming does not turn you into a market analyst or even a knowledgeable player.
2. GW2 is extremely succesful, as far as I can see, second to WoW only in the genre. Ever thought that may be the case partly because of the lack of “trinity”? Is that a more improbable guess than the hypothetical “what if”-scenario you present?
3. Your “90 percent” is just a number anyone can draw out of the hat. My personal – and likewise only anecdotal – impression is completely the other way round.

From what I’m reading here, it seems new players like myself are getting buy this for gems thrusted in our face, and along with the NPE changes it puts the game initially in a not favorable light.

Having played a few mmorpg’s for a good few years on and off (played wow at lunch, SWG, Elder scrolls online, lord of the rings online, and others) I came to the forums to ask am I mistaken.

Thankfully there’s been some nice posts here, aside from the stalwart defence fan boyisim of a game from people who love it, to make me think there’s gold in this game you just have to be patient and turn the blinkers on to the more money magnets.

I’ll keep plugging away.

cool, throw in some more insults and you are set. Seriously, lvl ELEVEN. That is attainable in like 2 days of playing. There are many free skins in this game, a lot of them nice. What is wrong with you, are you in fact Captain Entitlement? Yeah, move on and imagine some corporate frauds elsewhere.

The trinity

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

So I posted about the definition of Role in RPG for those who continue to be ignorant of what it actually means when discussing the electronic or MMORPG version of the genre and people still didn’t get the point so here it is in more clear detail so that people can finally stop spreading their myths.

“Role-playing games also include single-player offline role-playing video games in which players control a character or team who undertake quests, and may include capabilities that advance using statistical mechanics. These games often share settings and rules with tabletop RPGs, but emphasize character advancement more than collaborative storytelling.” ie advancement includes but isn’t limited to combat situations which as we all know in games with leveling through combat is the driving factor of advancement. It’s the driving factor for advancement when you’re in dungeons to complete scenarios and in order to be successful you have to fulfill a role (which sad to say there is only one right now Zerker) and it’s a driving factor for advancement in PVP which sad to say is the only place that you’ll see any semblance of a trinity right now in conclusion my original definition stands because as we all know adding an electronic element to these types of games changed the genre from being limited to just the original tabletop to something much much more.

And you people who support the Zerker who tried to say that I was wrong when I defined Role in roleplaying the way I did, you’re not only missing the point but you’re also spreading myths yourself.

Having the trinity as a choice in no way will affect the Zerker meta, it won’t stop people from thinking DPS is the best, it won’t stop people from using the gear and spec they already have, and it won’t cause the game to crash and burn. Please stop spreading nonsense.

I think we should look at other titles out there who have the trinity lite as an option and see how they are fairing.

NWO comes to mind immediately.

They have their own version of the Zerker meta going however you don’t have to be glass cannon.

No dungeon is requiring only certain classes (as with what’s happening here with the plate classes and will happen with all three plates in the future if left unchanged)

Materials to make gear aren’t inflated to outrageous amounts and people have the ability to be diverse in their builds.

No one is blaming the healer or tank in groups because they know that it’s not a full trinity it works differently than that anyone that has, has been laughed out of their groups for being stupid.

There is no downside.

cool, you took the time to write a very long text. Still, you are completely wrong on the “role” concept. Though in your defense, it probably hadn´t been a good choice to adopt the wording when the genre transfered from “acting” at the coffee table to computer games. Still, rage and blame all you want, you are wrong. Simple as that. Less so in the rest of your statements.

they cannot do this. They can add elite zones, we already have harder content in game, like fractals. But they cannot add noteworthy or even exclusive loot. Hence, those areas are comparatively empty, because people usually undertake such endeavours once or never at all unless they will get rewarded accordingly. This is deeply ingrained in GW2 design philosophy. This game wants to include everyone, whatever the player skill or investment. Anet simply cannot create rewarding content demanding one or two of those.

I think people have forgotten that these games are called MMORPGs for a reason. The R in RPG stands for Role as in you have a role to fulfill. This game is lacking Roles outside of the Zerker meta which is the reason why these threads have appeared since the onset of the game. They don’t have to make it mandatory but the least they could do is make it an option it’s not going to hurt the Zerker crowd in the slightest if they make it more complex.

They keep saying they want people to group well give people a reason to group that’s what people want.

hilarious. Now google the real etymology of the term.

A revenant is a visible ghost or animated corpse that was believed to return from the grave to terrorize the living. The word “revenant” is derived from the Latin word, reveniens, “returning” related to French verb “revenir”, meaning “to come back”.

I suppose if you have a Ghost pet rock that your pet Fido keeps retrieving you could call it a Revenant Rock …

“I’m feeling better, I think I’ll go for a walk” ..

Being encouraged to play a recently deceased character who may not have been quite dead yet just makes me happy I won’t have to smell their rotting corpse as I craft items in the Mystic Forge ..

Yes, we too know english words of french origin, thanks. But if you care to follow the announcements, they are very probably not undead. I have no idea why Anet chose that rather misleading name instead of, well, Mistwalker or something.
