once again, i am truely amazed at the amount of posters who have a complete lack of perspective here.

He is a new player.

This means he is not wearing the best gear for each level
This means he has no traits at all
This means he doesnt know little tricks, like how to get bonus exp
this means he doesnt know if he plays X spvp battles and selects a certain track he will get a book, which it turns out can be used to level him once
This means he cannot join dungeons, and when he can, it wont take him 10 minutes without being carried. Most groups these days wont even let him play.

this is a NEW player, and apparently the game is very bad at retaining new players, his complaints may give some insights into why. Interestingly enough NPE doesnt really help most of his complaints.

here is the kicker: we have all been new players when we were new to the game. Speaking for myself, I cannot remember any of the experience described (NPE or not) and see no reason to reconsider what I wrote earlier.

Why don't we have this tool in game ?!

Algreg.3629

Why do people blame the tool when it is misused?.. Do you blame video games when someone plays it and then decide to go on a rampage in real life like what the fox news tries to portray?…. No, the blame is placed upon the person who is doing the wrong, just like if someone uses the dps meter for something toxic, he should be accountable for himself alone, the entire tool shouldn’t be to blame considering it has many beneficial uses.

if it displays a person´s dps so another person can see it, it is not a “misuse”. It is the very use and nature of the tool that spells friction.

I give up... No Map Completion!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Algreg.3629

Actually I think WvW map completion should stay. It is the only noteworthy achievement in the whole creation of legendary weapons. But Anet should just remove it finally, just to shut up the incessant whining about this in the forums since launch. This game has to be so easy a sleepy trained bovine could succeed. That is the market strategy, that is the audience, the game should finally go the whole way and remove everything bordering on difficulty or commitment.

New to GW2 like some advice.

I´d rethink that engineer decision. Personally I enjoyed my main immensely, but in a nutshell, you can do things with rather complicated class mechanics most classes do very easily with their basic abilities – and often they do it better.

The NPE and the trait overhaul did hurt the leveling experience imo. The game gates so much behind arbitrary level restrictions.

Before the NPE and trait overhaul you got traits at lv11. Every level you’d get a traitpoint and you could see where you were working towards. “Ow, movement speed? that sounds great”. Now you need to wait till lv30 to even get traits, and before you even reach your first Adept trait you are lv36(?). But of course by then you would’ve found out you don’t even have any traits. And you don’t have the gold or the spare skillpoints to go around buying them all.

Because skillpoints are used to buy skills. And that is also heavily gated. You can do map completion, but often that gives you less skillpoints than when the game decides it’s now time for you to buy new skills and gives you like 8 instantly.
And except for seeing vaguely what your next level-up reward is you just don’t have much of an objective or feel of character progression.

Before, for me at least, it was like:
“Okay so in 5 levels ill have enough trait points to get +50 in these two stats, but more importantly I can get that trait that looks really interesting. And in 3 levels i’ll have gathered enough skillpoints to buy SkillX”.
Now I just sit around pretty much waiting to see what bone the game throws me, and hope that it’s going to be anything good.

And the trait overhaul, as has been discussed to death, has been terrible. I’d get traitpoints but no actual traits to equip!

Of course there are more problems, some are more inherent. Such as skills being kinda dull in leveling. For example a 60sec cooldown skill that clears all conditions and stun, how is that interesting for leveling? When dealing with the average mobs out in the wild such a skill is very uninteresting. Sure it might save your life once in a while, but usually it’s a button that’s not going to get pressed.
So the game quickly gravitates towards a fairly limited selection of skills that are fun and useful while also being something you can use frequently enough. With that you than play out the rest of the game to lv80.

Especially late during leveling I found the NPE+trait overhaul to really fall short. You have all the good/fun skills unlocked so there is little to still look forward to in that department. Or you are saving up skillpoints for the super expensive stuff, like the 30point Elite.
And you don’t have any of the traits needed to actually make good use of the traitpoints that get thrown at you, 2 at a time now. And at 50s per master trait you don’t want to go around buying them either. So at this point of the game I really felt like I was just sitting out my time toward lv80, and the gear rewards I kept getting for leveling up didn’t match my build so it was often worst and I ended up deleting it.

NPE leveling was a bad move, it is not fun and calling it not thought out very well would be a tremendous euphemism – still, leveling is not hard or slow at all.

Leveling: this game has by far the easiest and fastest leveling I have ever seen in an MMORPG
Events: Well, it is not hard at all – I love how people always pick some thing they are not able to manage and tell everyone “hey, that is not what I define as skill” – simply a l2p issue here.
Posion/Bleed: not at all, not even close
Classes: well, a matter of taste really – but defining traditional mmorpg skill rotations as thought requiring and deep is really, really silly.
World Bosses: you couldn´t be more on spot
General: You get xp for everything in this game, in huge amounts, safe of sneezing your nose.

Your review is completely off mark I should say. And that comes from a person with a dislike of GW2, so don´t embarass yourself with the fanboy-card.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Commander tags shouldn´t have been available for gold to begin with, instead they should have been earned by rank or some form of achievement level. The game is SWAMPED with commanders at times, to the point of competing commanders in EotM – so apparently the price is low enough. I´d say your observation is a fluke.

Without it I would NEVER suffer another line of Marjory <3<3 Kasmeer dialogues and kept miles away from the “one dumb male & 4 wonderfull females” group.

Kinda sad that people are willing to go through content they don’t enjoy just because they get a shiny reward in the end. This is the reason why ArenaNet does not have to even bother trying to make fun content – they know they don’t need to, people are going to play regardless as long as they get a reward for it.

not sad at all – but I tell you what actually is: you being unable of letting go of a single topic you bring up every time and which you obviously perceive as relevant and central for everyone else. Shocking revelation: your opinion and preferences are not universal.

Actually, poor communities help to cripple games that could have been great. Just take a look at all the grinding content ArenaNet has added to the game because there are a lot of grinders and farmers among the players. Heh, even ascended gear only exists because the community is rather bad.

what has zerker gear to do with it? If GW2 introduces the aged trinity, yes, then you will possibly stop people demanding zerker gear. But here is the kicker: instead of one optimal gear, people will quickly identify the best gear for every role and will demand to use that. And then we will hear the same whining in here about “evil ‘elitists’ don´t let me play with them”. Have you guys actually ever played a trinity mmorpg?

Taunt: Thank You

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

Taunt is a CC, not an aggro mechanic. Re-read it.

The way its implemented is specifically to bust up the murderball formations that trivialize most of the pve content, and give melee specs additional and interesting cc that synergizes with rather than conflicts with their weapon sets.

For example: if you’re running a melee warrior, and you want some interrupt on your utility bar. Well, you could use fear me, but it’s a giant pain in the kitten , as you’re forced to use a mobility skill just to catch back up with the guy you just interrupted. On the flip side, if you’re running a ranged build, fear me has much better synergy as you’re trying to maintain distance. The addition of taunt (AKA Bizarro-fear), allows more build options and better skill synergy.

On top of that, mobs are going to use it on you, and I’d imagine that’s going to be pretty heavily abused by encounter and monster designs to break up the ‘all DPS IN A CORNER’ boring as heck strategy that pervades most of PvE, and moves general PvE in a more fun direction with real interrupts, timed cc saves, and other such fun stuff.

Aggro mechanics are a form of CC. So it’s not wrong to label Taunts a form of Aggro control.
Tanks in all trinity games do the job of CONTROLLING mobs.

for 2 years barely one week has passed without you proposing and demanding things that will turn this game into another, already existing one. For the love of god, why don´t you just play that one instead?

Wow. WOW! I never in my wildest dreams expected this.

Things I should clear up now. This happened on a 15-30 PvE zone. I’ve only been playing for a month, so I had no clue I would need to do WvW areas as well. I play WvW already so I may have completed one of those maps and not even realized it yet. I’ll worry about them last. It isn’t a race to get 100% completion.

The elitism and pettiness I’m seeing is astronomical in this thread. This is actually a surprise because 99% of the people on my server are pretty nice, with the 1% being picked on until they go away. I guess that’s a forum for you!

first of all, elitism does not signify what you think it does. Then, what do you expect when you seek approval from strangers? Do your thing in WvW, it is part of the game and implemented by Anet. Do not care what some temper tandrum people do, if you cannot bear attacks from some random stranger on the internet, keep a low profile while on the map. It is as easy as that. What did you expect here actually? Comfort?

tons of gold is great advantage in WvW, and it was intended to be.
With infinite gold, you can probably get a full map of people playing on your dime.
You can have as much HQ seige as you want
you can outfit all of your soldiers in ascended
you can maintain non stop food buff trays at every castle.

This so silly an argument it is really hard to fathom. Maybe there are some very dedicated WvW guilds out there gathering ressources for this but… it is so easy for the individual player to get ascended armor and personal food buffs.

Self Leveling too low, game play suffers!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Algreg.3629

Algreg.3629

You are amazingly confusing, what exactly is your issue? One can only guess.
- exploration past 80: downleveled characters are already a lot more powerful than at level characters for a map. Beside group events, PVE is tremendously easy in this regard. Also, why would you want to stomp through the low level maps anyway? This is content you will miss having at some later point in your game career.
- dungeons: Yes, they seem to be hard at the beginning. And why shouldn´t they be? You as a self proclaimed teacher should really know about the incentives of challenge and self-improvement.

So, to summarize your wall of text, does it indeed basically just say “game´s too hard!”? In that case, no, it is by far the easiest game of its genre I have ever come across – mindnumbingly easy in fact. l2p

Most important of all: don´t whine and don´t complain about others for your own inability and mistakes, but learn from them.
