Some people want fast dungeon runs and some people want to run with subpar builds.

People in the former camp don’t want to deal with people from the latter camp.

Thank you for being an example of the kind of players being talked about, the build snob. “There are us elites and then the rabble.”

If this was 35 years ago you and your buds would be the ones at the local arcade making sure nobody else got to play Defender or Tempest.

2. Elitism is getting pretty bad in this game.

- While GW2 community is certainly not the worst I’ve ever experienced… (cough SWTOR) … it’s definitely not the best gaming community out there.

- Dungeon Runners (not all) are the worst. I love running dungeons in MMOs. I find them fun and exciting and rewarding. But here, Elitism rules the dungeons: You must be full zerker! You must be level 80! You must have run this path 1000 times before! You must skip everything and speedrun! And the worst one, You must have 8000+ AP! < lol what the heck does AP have to do with anything?

yet again, the word elitism is used completely incorrectly. Elitism is a mindest of being entitled to whatever because of belonging to a special group of people.

a) You must be full zerker! You must be level 80! You must have run this path 1000 times before! You must skip everything and speedrun! And the worst one, You must have 8000+ AP! => not elitism
b) You must be full zerker! You must be level 80! You must have run this path 1000 times before! You must skip everything and speedrun! And the worst one, You must have 8000+ AP! BUT I do not have to be any of those things because I am a [insert special group here] => elitism.

Hello. I am an experienced mmorpg player and I’ve played all the big games so far. I’m new in GW2 (joined about 2 months ago) and so far I got 3 characters to lv80 and im working on another one atm. Unfortunately for me too the game is nothing close to fun, even though I got into it with so much excitement after all the comments and videos I’ve watched prior to purchasing. A couple of things that spoil the fun for me: the grindfest! its simply horrible and unrewarding (worst I’ve experienced in an mmo). Dungeon grouping! there is a general lack of direction when it comes to roles in a group environment and it tends to be very disappointing to new players who find themselves in a downed state all the time. It’s made me feel hopeless and helpless several times and that was even in the early dungeons where the game should be very forgiving. The world feels amazingly small and boring. The lore is plain boring for me, so much that I skip all cut scenes and dialogues. Crafting and gathering, also very dull (after playing ffxiv arr its going to be hard to find better or equal crafting/gathering). Gearing! From what I’ve seen so far (correct me if im wrong), gearing is horrible since basically you have two tiers of gear to choose from which is exotic and the upgrade, ascended. What I hate is that for example a karma berzerker exotic sword and a dungeon token exotic sword come with exactly the same stats and after that its all about different skins with no difference statwise. And finally I find ridiculous how the legendary weapon crafting concept works. You spend hundreds upon hundreds of gold and time to grind mats for a weapon with stats that are the same as an ascended weapon and all you truly get is a shiny skin I have played a bit WvW and it was also boring, basically all I did was follow a huge zerg in a map and capture bases and occasionally fought with enemy zergs in battles that werent remotely fun. I havent done any pvp yet so I dunno how that works. No healers, no tanks, no dps, everyone is everything and everyone has to take care of themselves. I understand anet wanted to try a new approach but for me this is not working good. Sure some classes can support the group with some abilities but it’s minimal. I havent felt once that feeling of “bonding” with my group, like you have my back and I have yours. It’s everyone for themselves. Anyway that’s how it has been for me so far, I hope the expansion will make it more interesting somehow. I wanted to get addicted to this game for many reasons..

once again, me, the GW2 hater, has to step in to defend the game partially.

- grind: yes, you are correct here. The grind in GW2 is ridiculous as it worse than in any other game. You cannot really farm target-oriented, it is an endless scrounging of coppers and silvers basically.
- not performing well in dungeons: who said “beginner” dungeons should be very forgiving? You can practice pve in open world. And actually they are not hard – and their difficulty has nothing to do with roles. But I think here is the burried issue: apparently you think “other mmorpg” when playing, so you don´t really make good use of your abilities, maybe being used to having your behind saved by tanks and healers or being yourself the indestructible tank. To sum it up, no, dungeons aren´t really that hard.
- yes, the game is very skin-oriented when it comes to reward. That is different from other games of the genre, but whether that is good or bad is really a matter of taste.
- legendary grinding: yes, it is outright silly. Thing is, you don´t come across as someone who really cares for weapon skins and you know what crafting a legendary implies. I missed the part where someone forces you to do it – you only care about the stats and complain legendary is not better than ascended. Well, seems to me, there is a solution imbedded right there.

All in all, if you don´t start to think GW2 but “my other MMORPGs”, you will not enjoy it. If you cannot, then it is not your game.

why Shiro?

he was under the Influence of abbadon you find out from togo in the battle of abbadon in eye of the north.

shiro was originally the Canthans emperors right hand man until a prophet said to him kill the emperor or see you own fate the same , but the emperor found out and killed shiro sending him to the pits of the spirit relm worse than hell or the underworld to be dammed forever and this place aka the mists as gw2 lables it is the enterance way to the gates of the gods which are now in gw lost to time since normalcy was restored by having the blood stone sealed so magic was contained.

later we get to when we came alone in cantha hundreds of years after shiro died and after the great faction war , shiro was Revived in celestial form which you also needed to be blessed to beat shiro before he finaly became fully revived , you could say shiro used the power of the mists to bend realilty to his will by teleporting you to his version of the spirit relm.

by destroying shiro in his celestial/spirit half form its destroying his soul so i would way revs are using the memories of shiro to fuel their wrath by using his essence.

doubtful shiro would return but its just like being possesed if a person is not strong enough to control the will of a god or a very power charater he will succumb to the power of the mists ether be destoryed by the very power itself or be taken over by shiros memories and go insane.

well thats my theroy of the mists.

That’s not how it happened at all. Lol

Shiro killed the emperor, not the emperor killed Shiro. Then Vizu, the Luxon champion Archemorus and the Kurzick champion Viktor killed Shiro. He was made an Envoy after death. He came back to life, was killed by the [Guild Wars 1 player] and was sent to the Realm of Torment by the Envoys where he became Abbadon’s General.

“Beginning to fear for his life, he became further confused when Emperor Angsiyan began acting oddly during the Harvest Festival, altering protocol for unknown reasons. Using enchanted weapons, Shiro slew his master in the middle of the main ritual of the Harvest Ceremony and absorbed Angsiyan’s soul along with the powerful magic granted to the emperor by Dwayna. Momentarily escaping Shiro’s slaughter, a Ritualist entourage struck the ceremonial gong of the temple, alerting those outside to something gone wrong. Tagachi killed most of the soldiers that rushed to aid the emperor until only the Luxon champion Archemorus and the Kurzick champion Viktor remained. Before he could slay the two champions, the Assassin Vizu crippled Shiro and allowed the two champions to deliver the killing blow, nearly slicing Shiro in half with his own blades.

Shiro’s death triggered the Jade Wind, by releasing the energies of the Harvest Ceremony. After his death, the Oracle of the Mists sought to turn Shiro into an Envoy as punishment, but he refused, and since then the Envoys have been attempting to bring him into their fold to ferry the newly dead through the Mists. For two hundred years after his demise, he had been content to lurk at the fringes of the netherworld. However, Shiro eventually accepted the task of becoming an Envoy and somehow learned to use his new power in the creation of an army, unleashing first the Afflicted and later the Shiro’ken upon Cantha, as the former guardsman sought a way to return to life. After slaying Master Togo, Shiro’s plan was successful, and he returned to life, but was eventually defeated again by the player characters. After his second death, the other Envoys took Shiro’s soul to the worst prison in the afterlife.

It was discovered that he was taken to the Realm of Torment, which had been overrun by Abaddon and his demonic servants. Shiro became one of Abaddon’s generals and was defeated in the Temple of the Six Gods. The fate of his soul is currently unknown."

it doesn’t matter who killed who at the start , that wouldn’t change the lores course of history the jade winds would of happened anyway and shiro would of still fallen to Abbadon thats how cruel abbadon realy is.

its a real tragedy because it was not shiros fault nor the Emporers so the order of death is not of importance what is important is what events would of Transribed regardless of happened would of happened anyway.

i accualy feel sorry for Shiro as it was not his fault anyway ether way both of them would of died.

i would argue it matters who killed whom, but the point is, you got your facts wrong and now try a spin at it, a rather unconvincing one.

While I agree OP’s English seems to be at a level where he can probably manage the game in English, that doesn’t mean people who can’t speak English have a lower intellect.

When GW2 released, I was actually surprised by the limited amount of languages it supported. It’s a decision they made years ago and I doubt they’ll support any new languages for GW2 in the future, though.

No, not being able to speak English does not reveal a lower intellect. Not being able to adapt to an environment easily accessible and predominant in pop culture… more so.

+1 for cat ears in gem store. Tired of reading posts from haters lately, meh.

Don’t you guys have something better to do, like play?

“hater” is a complete non-concept. What is a hater?

Is a hater someone who hates everything and does not like anything? Maybe there is some really, really unhappy person somewhere in the world that is like that, but chances are, people like at least a few things.

Or is it sufficient to just dislike one thing to qualify as a hater? Are you a hater then too or is there nothing in this world you dislike? I sincerly doubt that.

So much for the complete logical fallacy of that word. Of cause I know how you are using that word. A hater is everyone who voices dislike of something you like. Well, isn´t that convenient? Also, using a non-concept like that transfers the conversation to a meta-level, now you are no longer discussing the issue at hand, but the style of conversation. That is of cause a very cheap and predictable parlor trick of rhetorics.

Anyways, ya gw2 needs some higher difficulty stuff but it still needs content casuals/less than hardcores can enjoy. Wildstar of recent went for you ‘hardcores’ in it’s game design and look how well that went! So well, it’s going f2p and GW2 people will be paying for that mistake with the HoT price lol. Careful what you wish for imo.

Wildstar was unappealing to “hardcore” players as well, it had ridiculous time consuming mechanics and seemed really clunky at launch (well, that´s what you get when trusting NCSoft after the CoH debacel and GW2 yet another time).

But in essence you are right. Games mirror society. Achievement, the thrill of finally overcoming a challenging obstacle, self improvement, all these things are shunned by a rapidly degenerating western society. Games have to be like bad soap operas now, an endless stream of mindnumbing “entertainment” that does not challenge anyone´s mind. Casual players will never explore anything but shallow emotions in games, no “yes!” moment, just a continuum of mediocre sensations, not very different from the day in the office (which always makes me chuckle when casual players complain “but I want to relax after work!”).

That is lamentable, but it is the way things are now. A game publisher would be mad to invest millions and millions of dollars into a game that does not fit that mold.

You are using the wrong word. You mean to say elitists.

not really, as you do not understand the meaning of that word. An elitist is someone who demands special treatment because he belongs to some special group of people.

An elitist would feel entitled to bring a necro into a dungeon party.

The people described in OP do not demand special treatment. They demand you bring the same efficient gameplay into the group as they do. That is in fact egalitarian, not elitist at all.

I actually like Tera, and wish Guild Wars 2’s combat was more like it, but the amount of horrific pedophile chat that goes on in that game as a result of the Elin race is disgusting, and has to be experienced for you to understand how bad it can get. So I say no, a thousand times no, no children characters. Between the perverts, and the trolls pretending to be perverts just to gross people out, it’s not ever going to have enough positives to counter all the negatives.

Gonna repeat my post because you Western people is really kinda double standard and knows really little about what leads to crime.

“People are complaining about the “ethical issue” of the game, but guess what, the US and some European countries have much higher adolescence crime rates/prostitution than Korean and Japanese! This speaks volumes about some “western standard” being misleading propaganda and shows an essence of arrogance and ignorance.”

Clearly it’s not those chit-chat of your so called “disgusting comments” that lead to crime. In fact maybe it is those video games that “prevents” crime at the first place because it satisfies some people’s needs virtually. People who swing that way don’t need a video game to turn them into what they are. They use video game to do that because they swing that way before that and wish to satisfy what they want by just playing virtual games that hurts no-one.

a) what has youth crime to do with crime commited by adults against children?
b) east asian countries have a way harsher judical system than eg. european countries (which I think is a VERY good thing). Here young people can gangkill on the streets and get away with probation repeatedly, adults up to their mid-twenties are tried under juvenile law if the judge thinks that´s appropriate – meaning most of the time. That is the reason for a riptide of juvenile criminality
c) the “satisfy their urges in game” is just one of contradicting psychological theories. There are also established schools which think simulated crime may actually habituate the real thing (of cause only when you have a predisposition, no mentally healthy person will develop a disorder just because of a game). Not saying that is actually the case, just saying professional opinion on this matter is divided.

you are not introvert – more of that later. I am introvert. Prolonged social interaction exhausts me. Still I do fine in social environments and eg. am especially good at presentations. It just takes more effort than for extrovert persons.

If you cannot interact with lines in a chat window – and people are nothing more in a mmorpg unless you invest in them – you are not introvert. You suffer from a rather manifest case of social anxiety. This is an ailment. A game company should not design their game around single cases of psychological disorder. You on the other hand should seek out treatment as your condition is probably affecting your life way beyond a computer game. Again, social anxiety does not equal “introvert”. I am not mocking you here. Seek help, I recommend CBT.

An interaction doesnt need to have physical body to be social. People speaking in text are still people.

The fact that you see these interactions as just lines of text gives some context to your posts.

I think the idea of an mmo is supposed to be able to work with solitary people, the problem is not everything can be for everyone and also there are limited resources

I also wrote unless you choose to invest in them. And even you will understand that even though written text by strangers is social interaction, in the anonymity of the internet it carries way less impact than interacting with people present as complete personas. But I can appreciate your little forum crusade here, the context of your posts have always been clear to me anyway Always caustic against all those big, bad elitists. Just because someone is educated in one field, like the professor you mentioned, doesn’t mean he is educated in another or that he doesn’t speak the way he was taught by people most emphatically not educated in this when he was young.

And what field is that? Is there a more specific field for this then being an M.D.?

Note that I am just trying to point out, that education has little or nothing to do with the question.

That professor was also 60 years old at the time he said that. His medical training was a good 40 years before that and he was taught by people who medical training was 40 to 50 years before that. A lot has changed in the last 80 – 100 years in the understanding of human biology and the possible variations. If you are going by the one opinion of someone whose education is that far back, well, i have to tell you. There have been some updates.

Yet some of my recently educated friends believe the same (also MD and Dentist).

Educated in the fields they went to school and got a degree in doesn’t mean they are educated in everything. The fields they didn’t study, they are no better than laypeople.

What field is that?

Unless transsexuality resides in the teeth, your dentist friend is only a lay person in his understanding. Unless your doctor friend is a specialist in sexual behavior then his classes likely only touched upon this before going on to other subjects. Most doctors have a general medical training and then they go on to a specific training in one field.

As to the field, It’s not one field. It’s many fields coming together. For example it’s genetics, the studies of hormones and their effects, the case studies of children that are raised a different gender than their sex, history, the studies of different cultures to see how these show up over across cultures and how they are handled in each culture. It’s even studies of animals and their sexual behaviors (homosexual rams are fairly common for example).

So unless you are a doctor, an antrpologist, an animal doctor, a psychologist, philosophist and a historian all at once and in all of these fields you have not specialized in sexual behavior your oppinions don’t really matter.

I have a feeling no one in the world fits the above description.

Since you’re a psychologist, you’re probably familiar with the ICD-10 and DSM-5. Someone holding current specializations in sexual behavior (psychology or medicine) or even a solid background in Gender/Qu**r Theory, are all areas I would give more weight to.

You’re right that currently, gender dysphoria is classified as a medical disorder, but a body of research is mounting up supporting declassification – and in the DSM-5, only the discontent of gender identity issues is pathologized, not the identity discordance itself. If you and your colleagues are choosing to reject that research, that is your prerogative as working professionals.

But you should be aware it is no longer a medical consensus that being transgender is a justified disorder.

well, science is heavily under pressure from political agenda too.

being homosexual is a sexual orientation and I will never understand why it always gets thrown into the pot with transgender issues. Believing to be in the “wrong body” is a terrible fate, but it is a disorder. There is no soul/body dychotomy, there are no male and female souls. People who feel disconnected to their body like this are in no different place than anyone else suffering from some form of dysmorphia. You never hear “oh, but it is his/her identity!” when someone is suffering from anorexia. Instead of helping people they are pushed by some political agenda even to the point of seeking out some frankenstein butchery.

fun, now that whole thing takes a turn into the “game is dying” direction. I have to say, for someone with a healthy dislike of GW2, these recent days have been true ambrosia around here. Please continue, the GW2 community is pure gold.

Lol its even got on the news

I wonder what Arena’s reaction would be? “We know our playerbase for the nice kittens with extra money they are, they will eat up any unfair pricing and ask for more”?

I highly doubt Anet has expected such a reaction from the ‘masses’, and if i were the boss there, i’d slap a few heads together thinking about the possible loss in revenue (the players that decided to leave and the new ones that think ‘maybe i shouldn’t buy a game that has so much controversy and trouble) and mostly , giving Anet a really bad rep. Because players really freaking out about this and seeing it on the websites everywhere, does give a bad aftertaste.

If people say ’don’t buy it, it’s not worth it’, of the 100 possible customers only 3 don’t, that’s a loss of 3% of revenue. Sure, you’ve sold 97%, but if you’d done it the smart way, you would have had it all.
If instead of adding friends to the game you tell em to stay away cause you’re going to leave it, then that too is a loss of possible revenue. Not just the buying price : the cash they spend ingame.

NC Soft knows all they have to do is pay off a few journalist to mute the drama and make the consumers look like the victimizer while constantly hyping up the players with new Elite spec info and new legends for Revenant,,, then this forum will forget the drama.

Remember the long Dragon Hunter name drama? That’s completely gone now…..see how that works?

you have a rather naive perception how PR and media work. I don´t need my corporate communications background to understand this, it is really common sense. You can probably buy one journalist. Maybe, just maybe, even one medium, but chances are, someone over there will spill the beans. The backlash of such an endeavour revealed is massive. Noone in their right mind will try something like this, it is the recipe for a scorched earth scenario.

Lack of fun as a support

so how does “dedicated support” differ from the scenario you describe now for a game that expects support skills from everyone in group? You just want a trinity game, then say it.

But there is hope for you. GW2 is succesful, but probably not as succesful as NCSoft thinks it should be. This leads to corporate pressure. Which will lead to desperate measures damaging the design integrity of the game – as possibly now seen in ventari expansion stuff. At some point, certainly someone at NCSoft will have the grand insight "WoW still has XX subscriptions, it is a “trinity game” as I was told, and I heard some people in forums would like that, make it so".

This will of cause lead to a very disjointed game design, the many players who liked the unusual approach of the original system will leave or at least be very dissatisfied. You will be happy because now the game finally has become like every other game that was available to you all the time, but you just couldn´t fathom how every game doesn´t have to be the same. Enjoy a then even more failing game with ever bleeding resources and all the fun that goes with it. A growing list of bugs that are never being fixed, rushed content, you name it – have fun :P

The "entitlement" meme needs to stop

that´s like your opinion, man…

not entitlement: It would be nice if you threw in a character slot
entitlement: I deserve an additional character slot because I “supported” the game.

Charging the same price for the entire existing game and the expansion for new and existing players is a HUGE middle finger in the face of all existing players.

they are charging everyone with the same price for expansion and throw in the original game as a bonus. Yes, that is a difference. And what about sinking price since release, sales etc? Now, are those middle fingers too for you as people pay less than you originally?

We’ve already paid you

yes. And you received a product and services. Are they going to take that away now? Don´t think so.

supported you

did you send money (cupcakes, drinks, fruit baskets) to anet or something? Probably not. You payed for using a service.

No game in history has ever asked its existing player base to pay more to continue their game than new players. EVER.

which they are not, they are asking the exact same price.

Oh hi there mr white knight.

yes, he is. A well known one too. How does that invalidate or validate what he is writing? Are you a “hater”? Should we ignore what you write and just refer to you as such? Are you intellectually below dealing with his arguments/opinion so you have to resort to some hackneyed internet lingo terms? Questions, questions…

Am I a hater? Hmm lets see played gw1 from the beginning with 2 accounts like no other, got my gwamm when it still counted for something and played the crap out of gw2 since beta and just started with my second account to start all over and still enjoying it. No i am not a hater, I am dissapointed with hot which is a bit worse imo.

you instinctively understand why those categories are nonsensical, yet you fail to apply that knowledge consciously it seems If you now apply your ability of self-reflection to putting yourself into vayne´s or another white knight´s shoes for a moment…
