First of all, this is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard in the game. Gear check for open world PvE??? be happy they kicked you before you had to endure a single minute of them. Regarding the community – no, farming events do not turn people into kitten, but they attract people of the kind (note: I did not say all farmers are like that, enjoying the gold rush myself).
this thread was worth of being necroed after half a year??
those events are already marginalized by the whole server due to outside timer checkers. the problem is not completing them, but arriving before the event is finished already.
all of them. only Jormag can be a bit tedious.
The moral of the story is elitists are stupid for using AP as a basis of skill, which makes no sense because I could accrue 10k AP just doing dailies and jumping puzzles and never stepping foot in a dungeon.
thing is, “elitists”, or good players not wanting to spend their free time holding other people´s hands as I would like to call them, do not do that.
personally I do not want to see this. Building characters is one of the major features of a rpg to me. I know that build diversity is usually rather theoretical as you either come up with one of a few cookie cutter builds yourself or just outright copy it from somewhere, but still: I rather have them trying to approach a never attainable balance so you can play a bit with builds from time to time.
Yes, they are STILL dropping and they ARE robbing us of the rare drop in that spot because they ARE considered as a rare drop(nothing rare about them, they should be WHITES), just like the new bags that are now dropping deemed as a rares and exotics which in my humblest of opinions are all GARBAGE.
What is your source on this. I don’t think you know this for sure, and I am pretty sure you are just plain wrong.
They are not on the same loot table as the normal rare drop. You can tell this simply at the frequency at which they drop.
They are just an extra drop, just like Kite Fortunes. Kite Fortunes dropped the same way and did not override a rare loot drop.
They are still worth money, just vendor them.
You know those wooden and steel chests that spawn? They are designated for rare(wooden chests) and exotics(steel chests) and have been for several months now, look it up.
Ooooooor they cause those chests to spawn as a visual clue.
But people been suggesting lots of things to anet, end game is out of them. What did they do? Add more Living Story cutsceens and gem store items. Its not important what i or some1 else suggests, its all about money, and if their musical gem store instruments is making them money, this is what they’ll be creating instead of a new dungeon for the ‘hardcore’ crowd. This is their main problem, they chase money without giving anything to those who want to do something called ‘play the game’.
really? So we should completely disregard them saying that in 2014 they’ll be adding more permanent content, because the rotation of temporary celebrations has already been established? And we should completely forget that they’re working on GW2s version of raids?
I would want more things now myself, there are a lot of quality of life updates that are needed, not to mention all of the content ones that have been asked for, but give them time.Game came out in 2012, we should wait 2014 for something to play? Doesn’t this sound ridiculous to you? Sure this is an mmo and its more of a marathon than anything else but they had one year, nothing been done. To me this is really bad because even gw1 received TONES of awesome things in that same year.
I guess all the people playing around me are just my imagination. YOU don’t have something to play…some of us feel we have too much to do. I’ve read some threads about that. Maybe you have too.
What sounds ridiculous to me is a guy who says things that are patently one sided without any acknowledgment that there are others who feel differently.
I know there are people who don’t care for this game and I acknowledge that. I’m fair-minded enough to understand the game isn’t for everyone. You don’t seem to care that a whole lot of people are logging in and playing this content.
And the game is apparently immensely enthralling too as it manages to keep someone´s interest who professes his hatred for every of it´s aspects in nearly every forum thread for weeks. Must be doing something right I guess.
I am not suggesting that these achievement’s should be removed. I am opening a discussion as to whether a cap something like a 1000 point ceiling would be in the best interest of everyone.
I still fail to see what this best interest actually is. Are you concerned with those leaderboards which the vast majority couldn´t care less about (yes, that is an asumption, but seems like a rather sure bet to me)? Well, then remove all those AP there. What other people do to get their AP in the actual game, be it for rewards, for completionist´s sake or whatever should be their personal concern only and is not the business of any other player. If someone cannot stand someone having more AP than himself – a strange notion to me – it is his problem, not a gamebreaker.
Every day there’s more and more people are disappointed with this game but anet does nothing to change the situation, i mean why would they care about hundreds upon hundreds complaints?
“more and more people” want to prove it?
It’s obvious that there are more people happy with the game then disappointed by it, otherwise the number of people playing wouldn’t grow and we would see server merges. To the OP – when rerolling take a breather and create your character calmly, there’s no rush. Maybe reroll as a different race, because those have their own starting zones and different personal stories, it might make it kitten ring to you. If you want money and levels just reaching 100% map completion is easier, and your personal story does describe things, you just need to listen
i don’t need to. you visit this forum often enough, i’m sure you noticed.
according to forum, the game is dead since november 2012.
We all know that this game isn’t going to make it if we don’t get some real expansion, and with the upcoming new MMO’s that are coming out ANET and NCSOFT should be very scared.
says you. And the LS are continuing expansions, they just do not charge us for them – if anything, that would be the major disadvantage vs. full blown expansions businesswise.
- Let me clarify something, if you are going to blame ANET for all of the things that are done wrong in this game, then don’t. Stop ranting on them because it’s all NCSOFT’s fault right now.
I´d say you are really misjudging the roles of publishers vs. developers. Publishers may set economical targets, finance or decide when the plug is pulled (and not all apply in all cases, there are a lot of models how those two player cooperate in the gaming industry), but they rarely take direct intervention or even interest in a game´s content.
1. that being said, I wouldn´t mind a paid expansion.
2. None of your business really and you have absolutely no idea about the financial allocations between anet and NCSoft
3. Since MMOs are on the market, each and every gaming forum has been full of those doom threads. Who guarantees any of soon to be released games will be better? totally subjective view of yours.
4. I agree.
5. They understand that and are doing no such thing.
6. No, players usually make horrible game designers.
7. It does. but they could add any new area they want to as we do not travel physically.
are you “lolz, noobs” guys actually aware of what OP is talking about? Cause it seems you probably have no clue. And no, it is not even about the players dying.
congratulations, you realized that achievement points do not proof anything but having done various activities that reward achievement points. Did anyone claim anything different?
there are consumables to buff speed, I say remove all speed buffs from class skills – see?
I support your sentiment, though you are fighting a quixotian battle there. Decent people don´t behave like that, you won´t reach the rest.
simply no. if anything, that would cause prices to rise a lot and even cause a real shortage of products to buy. Your understandings of how markets work are so wrong I do not even know where to start. Please, I do not mean this as an insult, but really, that is economy 101, read up a bit on it if you are really interested.
Champion zerg non-tagging rage I presume?
As upset as I was with ascended gear addition (I actually left the game for 7 months over this), I came to the conclusion that mmorpg do not work without loot, gearing up, farming – whatever you want to call the carrot. Most other games you play through once usually, maybe twice after some time has passed. If GW2 was a non-persistent single player game, it would be the story about fighting Zhaitan and the influence of other dragons in the area, mission accomplished, looking forward to Dark Souls II or whatever. I fear mmorpg simply need a form of grind, be it for stats or appearance.
/signed every of your points except the economy part. Economies rarely “break”, they just shift and adapt, with winners and losers.
So….. we complained that champs weren’t rewarding enough. So they changed them to have better loot….
Now….people are only farming the champs…..and they should be nerfed to stop it?
Kittened if they do, kittened if they don’t…..
Yes. Champions should be more rewarding!
I do NOT want ArenaNet to “nerf Champions”.They should just nerf the Choo Choo ChampTrains.
And how precisely do you achieve goal b, without enacting action a?
quite easily, randomize spawn timers.
You’re lucky that you had a nice party. I usually kick pugs if they don’t show up on time for the run.
So if you just got your fifth member, everyone is expected to instantly teleport inside the instance, regardless of their starting location?
Ok, that sounds fair. The kind of fair I’d expect from somebody who is bereft of consideration, empathy or any form of common, human decency.
In fact, let’s apply that logic to everyday situations:
You’d be the guy who just cut off some other guy in a car.
You’d be the guy who just went in front of somebody else in line, even though they had been waiting there for ages.
You’d be the loud, obnoxious dillhole in the movie theatre who talks on his cell phone during the feature presentation.
The world would be a better place without that guy.
no, because all these examples are about actively hurting or impeding other people instead of suffering other people´s shortcomings if you will.
okay, these are two different topics in my opinion:
a) impatience: All I can say, blame the game, not the player. With the changes to champion loot, people have the opportunity to gain more quick wealth than with any other activity. Even if you were patient, some other guys would kill the champ and leave you emptyhanded. Everyone knew what would happen. Not having the spawn timers randomized with these changes is a design flaw that leaves me flabbergasted. And no, I am not “anti-farm”, I have made tons of gold in a few days from this. Still it is madness imo. You can say “well, have fun and don´t farm” and you would be totally correct, but the easy wealth is simply to tempting for many people.
b) dying: Most of the times I see downed players ressurected, but there are a lot of dead people who expect a raise in the midst of battle – and there is usually a kittenload of AOE going on at upscaled champion events. Complaining for minutes rezz pls!, expecting of other people to share their fate by raising them slowly in the danger zone instead of just teleporting to the closest WP.
has the boss been defeated already by players? Yes? Oh, not impossible apparently, no nerf then. Sorry, no achievement shiny for you on this (or for me for that matter).
almost every argument against OP comes down to sophism, mainly redefining “skill” or “entitlement”.
it its even worse than that. Such people can be ignored or blocked. But the zerg also grieves people by sabotaging events they want to see fail (for repeating farmable stuff) by turning up at the event site, scale spawns to unbeatable and just stand there. Makes we wish the report ticket had a section “griefing” (though I understand that is hard to investigate and proof). Note: I am farming myself and pretty kittened to be associated with people like that.
yes, it is back, in the worst way possible. It is certainly nice to get rewards for once, but that is just madness. That is Plinx/Shelt/Pen on steroids, infused with super soldier serum and hit with a good amount of gamma rays. And the bile in map chat. When anyone breaks the zerg´s precious farming chain or – how dare they – want to not fail Gates chain because of the Ember champions, guess what. Reporting for verbal abuse becomes the new mini-game. I enjoy my farming as much as the next guy, but this is game breaking insanity just now which has to go.
It’s a celebration, it’ll be over soon.
not talking about the event area.
Maybe I am getting things completely wrong, in that case I apologize up front, but aren´t you going to really break your game at the moment? I agree that the meagre loot from monsters was really something to be fixed, but the mad champion farming that started was not the answer, a complete shift in the opposite direction. Now apparently open world scaling has finally entered the realm of utter insanity to battle people getting 50+ champion containers in an hour or a half. But it has about reached the point where it makes the game unplayable, at least if you want to see at as a game and not as an assortment of numbers vs. scale factor and a LOT of colors. Please, think this whole system through instead of shifting to yet another extreme with the next hotfix.
a bit of both I presume. And there would still be a lot of people overly concerned with the way other people enjoy the game I guess.
as I am not completly sure what your pov is, I clarify mine – I like to have all those AP available in game (additional dailies etc) but suggested remove them from the scores on the leaderboard if they cause problems there. In that regard, I cannot follow the casual/time argument. Those rewards are permanent and attainable by everyone, just at a different pace. I see them as a matter of choice (yes, the good ol´optional argument). You can develop a compulsion concerning many things in a MMO, that is no argument for removing additional daily/monthly AP. Just ignore them if you feel under pressure. The achievement chests will not disappear because of this.
If PvE dailies worked in a way that you can do 10/20 and then get the daily chest with 20AP in it, would you find that is still fine for you? The difference being that you currently get 1AP from each of teh 20, now you have the option of which 10 in the 20 to still get the 20AP.
I will also admit, I failed to think of the fact people are getting AP for the achievement chests. For me I’m not worried about getting a chest today, or a week from now. My focus is on the leaderboards strictly, so i will have a little bit of a different view on this.
I meant the “big chests”, not the ones for daily and monthly completion.
If people invested in the leaderboards see those as a problem, remove time related AP from the boards completely, just do not touch them for the rest of us in game.
Yes, I’m strictly talking about the AP given for these dailies. i don;t think the options for more casual players, or just those not seeking AP, should be removed.
I think its fine to have some dailies, or even the weekly idea, for AP, but I don’t think they should keep adding more time required.
So far it seems several people did enjoy getting achievements, but the fun has been taken away. In some cases people might have changed their own interest, but some seems to be directly due to the time it takes for dailies. Maybe it is just me, but i see this as a bit of a problem in the current system.

…you scroll through the first couple pages of suggestions or general discussion there are no dev replies but you look at Living Story / Queen’s Jubilee, dev reply every other post?
Why is it that valid threads and suggestions brought up by players get a ton of attention and then moved to the suggestion forum where posts go to die?
Yet you see the same thread made 100 times ie: NERF LIADRA! NERF GAUNTLET threads 100x over get made and replied to?
I just don’t understand…
Because it is normal that recent creations are more interesting to their creators than older ones.
Because most threads – and I guess by that you mean complaints – have been heard and thoroughly discussed for a million times here. Zerker this, mount that, I want trinity, I want this game to be like my beloved wow, I want to play a healer, nerfing my personal farming spot is an outrage, conspiracy theory Nr. x etc. Personally I wouldn´t bother to waste time on them yet again and again either.
Okay, I start with an assumption, but I think it is a rather probable one: Before account rewards, only a very small part of the player community was interested in AP totals. It is a good thing that you can chase after AP in various ways every day. If people invested in the leaderboards see those as a problem, remove time related AP from the boards completely, just do not touch them for the rest of us in game.
But that will cause an additional problem for competitive “leaderboarders”. I guess if you chase after them, dedicated people will quickly have completed all or most of the “normal” achievements – and everyone will end up with equal scores. Which is cool by me, as I do not care about leaderboards at all – but for competitive people there… I doubt that would be a satisfying situation for them.
That is not scamming, but selling overpriced. So you can check various sellers or trade convenience for coins, just like in real life. No, anet should not get involved in this, play like an adult, think like an adult, I do not want the in game version of a nanny state.
Yeah stuff like this makes me really dislike this game and community. /end thread
I have to say, your solopsism regarding other people´s points and you delusion of grandeur telling other people where to post and where not probably do not make you a particular favorite of said community yourself.
I’ve saved heaps.. HEAPS of money in way-pointing, so personally I’m happy she won
To be honest, I am much more likely to use a way point now because of the cheaper cost. I feel that the current price is what the price should have been set at from the very start of the game. Maybe we can petition this to be a permanent fixture?
I don’t get it. Are you insanely poor, or just really poor?
Not that is is relevant to the topic, but rich people who make it themselves also do so by spending wisely.
another conspiracy thread I presume? Here are two possible scenarios:
a) anet wants Kiel to win: They create an elaborate event which includes a voting “game” for the players, they invest company time and manpower in this. Players seem to favor the other candidate. The lamentation of anet employees can be heard throughout the whole city “OH NOEZ; WE WANTED KIEL TO WIN; what are the players doing? – we have to fix this!” They manipulate the votes.
b) anet wants Kiel to win: They create an event without player participation in the election process. Kiel wins, storyline continues according to original design.
So, what do you think? Here some little help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam's_razor
Just wish there was more people who’re as upset as I am because I’ve got less reason to play this game now and there’s nothing I can do about it. :/
This is my point…there probably are people as upset as you, but Keg Brawl in and of itself was never a major selling point of this game for most people. And I’m sure there are Keg Brawl fans out there, but there are also people who hate what it became…and I’m one of them.
At least this way you’ll have kegbrawl for one day out of four. But I’m surprised that people are staying in this game just or mostly for keg brawl. And I’m equally surprised people who like Keg Brawl don’t like some of the other minigames either.
Your point is asinine, and comes from the position of defending ArenaNet. Through most of this thread, you haven’t actually been arguing the original point, which is that it does a lot of harm and not a lot of good. You just spent the majority of it justifying ArenaNet’s actions, even if they are mostly negative, on the basis that Keg Brawl isn’t popular, so who cares? That arrogance and blind faith in the developer is hilarious, because all it does is further marginalize people and push them away but does nothing to make the game a more enjoyable experience to play.
Your opinion of my point is noted and will be given all the consideration it is due.
People don’t share your opinion so theirs is asinine. Noted.
There’s nothing left to say beyond that.
Pretty much that, I just browsed through this thread and all I see is OP repeatingly confusing “that is not a legitimate point” with “that is something I personally dislike” – displaying hierophantic ire while doing so.
I know the mechanics well, I still can’t get people to run it, in fact it’s come to the point that my guildies (and I’m in a guild of several hundred very active casual players) avoid me around dungeon running time. The dungeon has nothing to offer those who aren’t farming CoE tokens, and this just made it even worse.
Shocking thought: invest like 5 minutes to explain the mechanics to that one guy, probably like someone took the time to explain it to you at some point.
Knowing and doing are two very different things. I’d like to see you enter a chess tournament after having the game ‘explained’ to you.
People aren’t going to run through the dungeon perfectly the first time no matter how well it is explained to them, even the first few times. It takes practice, except now, practicing is worth even less than it ever has been, and it wasn’t worth it before.
a very flawed analogy as chess is a million times more complex and unpredictable than simple pve game mechanics. And according to you, my guildies and I must be genius, as we just completed all paths there with just one guy familiar with the dungeon in a rather short time. Sure your guildies don´t avoid your dungeon groups because you view and treat them as clueless idiots not worthy of a thorough explanation?

Anet allows it because they’re useful outside of PVE. PVP is a condition meta, PTV is very popular in WVW for survivability in zergs, but even in WVW healing power has mixed opinions on it, boon duration hardly matters since boons are constantly being reapplied, and MF … well Anet wanted to give us a way to improve our chances of getting better loot, but didn’t properly think it through, hence the changes they’re making to it now.
From a dungeon perspective however (open world PVE doesn’t matter, you can use any old trash there), can you honestly disagree with my assessment of the stats though? And if you do, go stat by stat and explain why, taking in to an account that this hypothetical dungeon party is competent, if not sort of competent.
Yes, I disagree, but that’s OK.
Do you have an official statement from ANet that you are supposed to use only Berserker’s stats for Dungeons, or else you are being a selfish player? From what I read, that’s only your interpretation based on what you have accepted as truth from the “meta.” I bet many players do well on any content with something else you would never in your “right mind” use-and I bet these players aren’t selfish either just because of that.
It is not anets business to identify the best gear for the game and remove all other, that´s up to the players. This is not an opinion vs. opinion thread. DPS is king in the current game design when it comes to PvE and Berserker Gear offers the best synergy of stats for this – by far. That is simply not debatable seriously. Yes, other gear is viable to play the game.
Anet is not there to police player gear based on what is perceived as “selfish” and what is not, how on earth do you get this idea? The conclusion: Play any way you like regardless ofwhat the Zerker fans say. On the other hand, you are in no place to demand of them to accept you into their groups with equipment they dislike, most of which is in fact subpar compared to Berserker stats.
No, they are necessary to speed things up. With just two remaining survivors, one could hide from the other almost indefinetely which would cause a lot of frustration for the defeated, waiting for another round.
This achievement seriously needs to be scrapped now, since it is all but impossible to achieve. There are literally hundreds of players spamming aoe at every Shatterer event now, and only 5 (!) players get encased in crystal per event, with the crystals shattering in 1 hit. Just shattering one crystal is like winning the lottery, and you have to shatter 5 for the achievement. Just a tad ridiculous. I say either buff the amount of players encased in crystals MASSIVELY, or change the achievement.
Why you people dont complain the WvW achivments are too difficult to get (i think they are ok in the time they take), same with spvp; i mean i read every " i want to farm my achivment points easy" post and you people ignore all the achivments that take really long time lol. Is like if you dont read the pvp tag you expect it to be nearly automaticly received…
Disclaimer: Shaterer take normally some time because not always you get the cristalized players…
because pvp players rarely display the casuals´ entitlement mentality (attention: not saying all casual players display that) and most of these players abhor the pvp part of the game anyway, ruling out these achievements completely.
it is quite possible to get them, it is just hard to aim for the achievement. Just keep on doing Shatterer, sooner or later you will get some crystal prisons by mere chance. 10 times doing the event is not much. I imagine not standing on the mound where everyone gathers, but fighting more in front of him could help you.
The GuildWars2 communist party [KP].
Aside from the obvious trolling, wealth concentration is a recognized problem in any society that isn’t a banana republic. So having people discuss the downside of wealth concentration does not mean that we’re communist.
Edit: It means that we care about the game and are interested in the economy.
“recognized” as that by leftist theorists, to be precise.
keeping Elixir R aside for a moment here, are you sure that mysterious super OP engineer magical skill wasn´t just a simple rally?
Nice, we buy the most expensive infusion the game got, just to throw it away after half a year. I take my hat off to you, aNet!
I´d say as long as there is no detail whatsoever known about the way they are approaching this and recompensations it is a bit early for bitter sarcasm, isn´t it?
This aint gonna happen because gw2 caters to casuals. And 90% of them can’t dodge at the right time nor run away from damage, sadly.
I do with they made the whole game harder and more rewarding. Ah well. Will have to wait for some other game.
I argue the opposite, people don´t learn or care about dodging etc. because they have no need for it.
Guild Wars 1: Killed Abaddon with my bare hands and it was a real accomplishment that warranted partying afterward.
Guild Wars 2: Killed Zhaitan with a cannon by spamming #1 while eating a taco in my right hand. No joke, I really was eating a taco while fighting Zhaitan.
There was no way I could have EVER been eating a taco and been able to defeat Abaddon. I had to be attentive and send my heroes to certain places where they could safely fight without getting steamrolled.
After Zhaitan, I didn’t feel like I accomplished anything except finishing my taco. After the 1st party update, I got bored and haven’t been back to GW2 since. I’m still waiting for an eventual update that will get me interested, but no update has got me even slightly interested in coming back to play yet.
I agree the Zhaitan battle was rather disappointing playwise – though not in terms of story/cutscenes imo – but Abbadon? That fight was interesting? Come on, don´t let your dislike of GW2 cloud your judgement. The only thing keeping it from being the stale “people hit stationary giant model on toes”-fight was the fact his face was at level due to a platform.
