or how they should be.
That would depend on what people like.
but imo, people spend enough time working they dont come to a game…just to work some more.
and easy faceroll content is nothing more than time invested without any excitement – sounds a lot like being at the office to me. Games need to be exciting and thrilling, if I´d like autowin at the pc, I could as well put together some PP presentations for work at home.
Norn simply aren’t as big as they were in GW1.
Min height female human vs norm (let’s just say max height)
http://oi57.tinypic.com/5yu6b6.jpgIn GW2 even a max height norn wouldn’t look that big compared to a small human.
wow, I did not remember it being that extreme… well, that is a giant girl indeed.
hm, throw in some WvW early, try to do the storyline dungeons early but stay away from explorable dungeons till 80 (trying to find a group that will take you below max level will possibly be an unpleasant experience), find a guild you enjoy as soon as possible as group mechanics are heavily exploitable by griefers. And most of all, immediatly stop thinking WoW and trinity roles, this will really keep you back and make you not enjoy the game.
But wasn’t the talk that Norn’s are Mythical Giants, and were scaled down for in-game purposes? ;-)
Are you possibly confusing this with good ol´ Lupi? Cause that is the only time I have read anything like this.
The Jotun beside the tooth of Jormag talks about how the Jotun and Norn where part of the giants. They where present before the humans arrived.
but the word giant has been applied to many big anthropomorphic life forms in the fantasy genre and mythology, from “ogre” to skyscraper size.

I had a blocked person in my party and did not see what they typed, do not see them in map chat or say chat. Not really sure what you mean.
Perhaps its only guild chat atm. I just remember a lot of LA’s “banter” went on after I blocked some people – maybe its not the same people I blocked.
Another thing – some people I don’t block for chat at all, some for being super nubs or noobs who refuse to communicate at all. I wish I can put them on separate temporary block lists as the chatters, as well as my permanent kitten list.
Usually I lean more to the “elitist” side of arguments, but I have to say, you lost all sympathy there. Why not have an autoblock of anyone below 3000 AP for you or something like that?
Precursor for:
100% World map + Level 49 FOTM + 100 WvW Ranks + Dungeon MasterSounds reasonable enough. Obtain a legendary precursor by playing the game.
Yalora has:
- 100% World map complete
- Level 0 FOTM
- 0 WvW Ranks
- 0% Dungeon Master
Yalora is not allowed to have a Precursor. /sob
However…
Yalora has
- been playing since Beta
- has 11,126 Achievement points
- has played 3,500+ hours to date
- has fun every day
I thought I was playing the game but it seems that now I can’t have a Precursor cause I have been playing the game WRONG all this time. Why didn’t one of you guys tell me? /sob
well, if legendaries really should live up to their name, yes, you seem to have ignored every somewhat harder piece of the game and hence should not get a precursor in a system that would reward achievements (not in an AP sense) over luck/time played.
Paywalls are bad. It divides the player base into haves and have nots. This isn’t some F2P Turbine game (“Please insert $5 to unlock this dungeon.”). Rather buy all my expanded content as an expansion than being nickled and dimed for each little bit of it.
oh, a fellow veteran? Well, they do both – and even let you pay a subscription for good measure :P
who are you to decide how the game is to be played? Do what you want, block people getting mad at you, let them do what they want.
Letting people do what they want does NOT include allowing them to verbally abuse people.
indeed, hence the report function that is usable by everyone…
The problem is that when you have to report someone for acting badly it can impact your enjoyment in the game.
It’s really nice that some people can just ignore what’s being said to them. Some people can’t…or can’t as easily. I’m happy to ignore anything anyone says to me, because I don’t give a kitten ..but I recognize there are people who do, who are affected by verbal abuse.
Reporting them after the fact doesn’t excuse them for doing it and doesn’t mean that game mechanics that encourage that behavior should remain in the game.
yes, it solves the “problem” just fine. And really, if anyone is so sensitive as to be stressed by reporting an offender, he should stay away from online gaming completely as that will always be a source of grief for him.
I was pretty convinced that it is supposed to be the other way around, with Norns towering over everyone.
Based on what?
But let’s say that there are more account wide unlocks of a particular type of content as opposed to another type of content (ie: dungeons vs new zones), wouldn’t that give the devs more information on the type of content that people actually want?
I mean, like everyone else I wouldn’t want to be ripped off, but if the pricing is fair wouldn’t this make the playerbase happier?
Not really. Look at DLC games (like for example Call Of Duty), when it’s a DLC and not a full expansion less of the game population will buy it. What will happen is that a small percentage of players own the ability to enter each new dungeon. Because it’s not an expansion most people will go “Oh I like that dungeon, but not buying that one, because I don’t like this theme of it”, meaning that let’s say 6% of the population has access to a new specific dungeon. How will LFGs go for them?
like in every other game that feature b2p quests. Player enters party, 5 minutes tumbleweed. “Are you on your way?” “Where quest?” 2 minutes crickets´ chirping. “What´s up?`” “Cannot enter” “the quest is not f2p, did you buy it?” “Wut is f2p?”…
look for people to do map completion with (map chat, guild, even lfm has some open world section). Also, there is a bit of a rennaisance of Orr farming on some servers right now, guest servers till you see a commander tag, that is a good indicator. Orr is fine, even if annoying at times, it is supposed to be the “end game map”, even if that concept doesn´t translate well into GW2 design.
rather leave the pve maps alone and add something like GW1 faction warfare.
sure, this is pretty much the way they will handle expansions here i think, also new races and classes I guess. Most microtransaction games do.

I don´t really understand your point. You “prefer leveling in pvp”. You go to a pvp area. There you get owned, not only by the mighty zerg, but also 1v1. So, what is the issue? A shame those guys fight back and don´t let you have those xp?
EVEN if the name refers to lore, why should that mean there can’t be a Guild vs. Guild – style player vs. player mode??? Completely irrelevant.
of cause we want GvG, but every time someone comes up with the cunning plan to further his cause with that silly name thing, it is annoying and does not help a bit. Argue why GvG would be great for the game, not because of the name.
I have played WoW for like 2 hours on a guest account and did not like it. But that whole hatred here is ridiculous. Also, I don´t use the word toon, but how anyone can get worked up about it eludes me completely.
Dude, you’re using the system in a way that was never intended and then complain when others do the same thing?
Nope, that’s not a legitimate reason to demand a change, sorry. You know what, forget that I said anything. Not gonna argue with people who twist my words around.
So long, gentlebeings. takes hat and leaves
not a single word was twisted. An it doesn´t matter if he is selling a path or looking for a group normally, that minority kick system sucks and causes a lot of grief in game.
I admire the OP for dreaming the impossible and embracing hope; without any restraints. .
Where is the poetry in it? Where is the bad attempt? Where is it?
Everyone is entitled to dream and hope, if you don’t like it, let them be .
by the way,
" Dreams and hope are not meant to be liked but to be freed "
@ Dusty Moon:
here are the Op last words,
" All I’m asking for is mount to increase our speed (You can cap it at 50% speed increase) and to make our character looks cool? XD".
I see no have too’s or must’s> no pressure here at all
well, whatever rocks your boat, Shelley.
not at all, but the only indicator there is when it comes to strangers.
So what… if it look or seem impossible for Arena.net implementing mounts in the game,
what are dreams for?
What is wrong with dreaming?
" Without dreams, life would not exist "
" Without possibility, the impossible would enslave us "
if your life´s happiness depends on GW2 and further, of the implementation of mounts in there, it is about time to reconsider quite a few things.
Does encouraging others for dreaming, make you their slaves ?
Poetry this is not, also, rather incomprehensible.
I don’t think I’ll ever understand why people oppose compensation for things like this. Perhapes they just enjoy when people suffer more than they do, it isn’t really a free legendary either. We made two legendary weapons. The new system makes one skin redundant and useless. We get a skin as compensation (not a legendary weapon) just the wardrobe skin. Anet has also hinted that they will be allowing gemstore refunds, “you can request a refund for gemstore items after April 15th.” Why not refunding legendaries in the manner I suggested too. There is no reason not to support refunds for everything and leave it up to anet to make the distinction when the time comes. All I see is people who are bitter that we exercise our forum privileges to ask for a good faith refund that will effect them in no way.
And I will never understand the people who want compensation. You have been running around with dual weapons for some time now. At the instant that you equipped the second one you extracted whatever value you wanted from them in terms of “prestige” or making others “bitter” or “jelly” (lol). And you are not asking for compensation, you are asking for a windfall profit based on some hypothetical way that you would have changed your behavior in the past.
Anyone who didn’t making a dual legendary is getting a windfall profit if they created just one. It isn’t hypothetical either. I never would have made a second legendary weapon, and I have stated the reasons more than enough, so please take the time to read them before you comment.
I got my 2nd legendary weapon for myself because I liked the skin. Now that 2nd skin has been rendered redundant and useless according to my arguments about the functionality of legendary weapons and their ascended counterparts.
All I am asking is that anet considers my position to offer compensation. I don’t want to profit, I just don’t want my work to be reduced to nothing, based on my arguments for legendaries being worth less than ascended weapons functionally.
What you have now: Incinerator (or bolt or whatever) in each hand.
What you have after patch: Incinerator in each hand.
What you want: Incinerator in each hand plus 2500g/another legendary. All the would’ve, should’ve, could’ve is completely irrelevant. I would have bought up all of the precursors after karka event if I knew that drop rates would continue to be lower after the event. You voluntarily entered into a transaction in which the value of the purchased item exceeded the cost. Yes, people who wait sometimes get half off sales.
It is clear to me now that none of you even bother to read my posts.
wrong, they just don´t draw the conclusion you would like to hear.
some servers actually have Karka vet. trains, just hop in, you will get a lot of shells per hour.

I would welcome the components of a legendary to be locked behind something as difficult as Liadri.
Then again, a lot of casual players and baddies would complain.
Unfortunately, gold/luck is the ‘best’ solution right now.
they will always complain short of handouts for logging in – and probably even then. Seems like a great idea to me.
You go to different parts of it to do specific things. Just like a Theme Park.
That makes any game with an open world a theme park, then.
This is why I hate this phrase. It’s just a cheap insult with no real definition.
no, completely wrong. first of all, it is not an “insult”, even if I doubt you can insult a game anyway. It is a rather clear definition. You can build an open world game, even with random events, for the player to seek out and experience (GW style eg. but also many newer single player games). Sandbox games on the other hand don´t give you much more than the environment and you create the content. That is usually only possible in an exciting way with open pvp (Eve, Darkfall, Mortal online), but sometimes there is that rare unicorn like Minecraft. GW2 is a themepark MMO, that has nothing to do with its quality.
lore + http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brand
now stop those weekly threads please. You demand the right thing but from completely false premises, it is tiresome.
why do you run around with a guild tag? And why shouldn´t they show some pride in their product?
theif is the new rouge? :P
the only thing proven here is that the same persons reiterating the same complaints in here also visit “that other forum”. Tiresome. And demanding people to be fired is a form of disrespect I would rate higher than personal insults and should result in a permanent ban.
Thanks everyone!! I really appreciate the help, being new and all. I just wasn’t sure if I was doing something wrong or not lol.
Is following the main questline necessary, by the way? Is there any real drawbacks to not completing it?
Don´t worry, you will soon leave those areas behind. Personal story, hm, I remember them being good xp, but could be wrong. Retrospectively, it doesn´t seem so great, but that is of caused a biased opinion after getting into the more entertaining stuff. You may enjoy it or not, depends on personal taste I guess. You will not miss out on anything noteworthy itemwise if you skip it at least.
It’s unlikely even then. The transformation the dwarves underwent wasnt some temporary “trinket” sort of magic, this was a World-Class type of magic. As in “unless you invent time-travel magic and rewind time for them” permanent.
Bah, happens in Dr. Who and Superhero comics every week :P But in earnest, I think dwarf history should stay as it is, that was some epic event and shouldn´t be retconned or “fixed” just to have a new playable race.
Come ooooon. Is there some secret society, dedicated to create threads about mounts every kitten day? 0_o
The Illuminhaaaaaaati.
got drawn in by the general forum negativity and stopped playing for a few months.
I finally managed to craft Volcanus to go with my fire theme and this kind of makes the spinal blades look like a jetpack when sheathed. With my traveler’s runes, and a swiftness buff for turbo I can pretend a bit at least.
You, Sir, are a burninator indeed!
I noticed you have not listed engineer at all, is this on purpose? He is a very ranged character.
Im, I never really thought about engineer, i guess cuz most ppl say them suck…
I Already tried staff Ele, but its to weak IMO. I realy like thief and ranger.
About the thief, I do not know if I’m not letting you take full advantage of the profession, by not using a dagger. because the heartseeker atack.
they don´t suck, but they sort the wheat from the chaff rather harshly – meaning, a well played engineer is good and a LOT of fun, a badly played really, really sucks. It is somewhat tricky, you need to switch out kits very often, sometimes just for that one skill to combine your weapon or belt skill with etc. But it is fun to master and the possibilities seem endless. Then, grenadiers are really powerful, though i dislike the mad button mashing that comes with it. If you are looking for that auto-uberclass, sure, I guess warrior beats all, but if you like experimenting a bit, you would enjoy engineer.
not so sure about that engineer advice, on paper, they are “ranged” as they have no melee weapon (save the tool kit), but telling from what OP suggested, he seems to be looking for some traditional “pew pew” character and engineer is somewhat tricky in this regard. No loss in trying though (personally, I enjoy them immensely).
It’s always funny if people are explaining noobs with game specific terminology. Do you expect he/she knows what a champ train or LS is? Try to write out some stuff.
well, if you are so concerned about this, why don´t you?
Thanks for all the suggestions, in any case you all missed the point, calling me a kid when I’m probably double your age and telling me to go play another game is just plain on the other side of the track. I bought GW2 because I love it, have been playing GW since the launch of the first one and I don’t play any other game hence why I want GW2 to keep me on. I don’t WANT to stop playing, I want to encourage this game and love it everyday I log on to it but for the moment, there is nothing to keep me and that’s my problem.
Keep those comments going, like I told you I was aware that more than half the post would be people telling me to stop crying over it so I don’t really care.
I doubt that or you would be deceased by now, very probably :P Anyway, if you had posted your concern in this reasonable tone from start, you wouldn´t have gotten displeased responses – many of us are really sick about all those threads telling us how everything about this game sucks (sure, not perfect BY FAR, but that green pasture over the hill thing is really getting old if you have watched the industry for quite a few years).
I left the game twice myself and came back mostly because of friends still playing (which I couldn´t bring back to “our” old MMO). And I started to enjoy it really when I stopped wanting to have that one perfect game. MMORPG really can get stale pretty fast. You have been given a good advice in here already: Play other games on the side. No MMORPG or anything else that demands a perpetual investment of time. Try good old fashioned single player games. Or online multiplayer games where you don´t “lose” anything when not playing (esports, fps, whatever rocks your boat). This way you will be able to enjoy GW2 more, everything becomes stale when it turns into a vast routine.
starter maps are populated by starting people. People move through that level range quickly. Characters spend the vast majority of their “life” at max level, not starting level. So will you. The game did not just launch. The very same in most mmorpg. You will see hordes of people (in fact, probably more than your computer can handle ) when the LS resumes.
(edited by Algreg.3629)
what the heck is going on this week with all the equestrian madness? Alien mindbend rays from outer space?
put that gem into the store. Make it extremely expensive. Give every character that got to level 80 this way an indicator (saving other people from wild button mashing max level new players in dungeons and fractals).
… I haven’t yet seen many threads about Mounts,
There were loads of threads about mounts,They all get deleted by Anet personally..For one simple reason,Mounts will not be coming to gw2,they have no place in this game, period.
Learn to quote, that wasn’t my full sentence.
So don’t twist my words. The complete sentence was about, that I haven’t seen yet any Mount Threads, in which all those Mount Haters for once try to discuss constructively together with the Pro Mount-Faction to come up at the end really with a solution, that is a compromise with that both sides could live with it, when Mounts would get implemented with that solution.
But all what you see is the Mount Haters repeating their nonsense everywhere nonstop like a broken record, that can permanently replay only the same thing…
And 99% of all the reasonings from those Mount Haters are just biased, illogical, intollerant and ignorant.
Mostly all of their reasons against Mounts that rely on the Lore Argument, are just pure lies to cover themself for not having any better reasons to against them. There exist alot of proofs that confirm the existance of mounts or mountlike creatures, but it makes no sense to discuss these things with such people, when they just permanently ignore these facts and do so, as if they wouldn’t exist.
Then you can talk also directly to a brick wall, it would be the exact same experience of ignorance…Alot of thsoe No-Sayers also have 0 trust in Anet, they are way too biased with their opinions based from experiences with Mounts that made years ago in much much older games and keep on forgetting, that games and all the techs that MMO’s use to date got developed further meanwhile.
You just can’t compare the possibilities Developers have today to implement a Mount System properly with games, that are like 10+ years old, like WoW basically in review of Game Lifetime + Development Time = Existance Time. Many of the concerns Mount Haters brought up (or better said, keep on bringign up permanently like the said broken record) are such minor issues, which can be easily solved instantly with little restrictions in the Mount System.
People keep on complaining, that Mounts would be immersion breaking, if they be useable in towns…Has anyone of you ever seen a serious Mount Suggestion, where the person asked for Mounts in towns??? I so far not …
The “issue” would be instantly solved anyway if ANet would restrict Mounts to be PvE only and not useable in towns. So why do we have to keep arguing about those obvious easy solutions???
Mounts definetely are no issue in regard of FPS.
If anyone is suffering on massive FPS problems, I’d check first alot of other things and when Mounts are a huge expensive prestige item that are set in the range of legendary weapons, than you also will never see anywhere in PvEso many players on Mounts, that they ever would have any large effect on your FPS.
And even then has ANet still on top of that the solution to add to the Options Menu the point, that people could activate the option to let mounted players fall under the culling setting to not be shown to you, while they ride on their mounts…However, all the skill spam and effects from legendary weapons, minipets outside of battles like Teq or Wurm and having the graphic settings maybe set up too high for your PC to handle, have a much much bigger effect on your FPS, than Mounts will ever have, when they get implemented properly <- and thats the only real point, in which many games in the past failed at, why so many people hate Mounts, because of them having all only the biased opinion, that ANet could fail with them too, which just leads back to the point, that people have no trust in Anet.
a classic: condescending attitude clad in the semblance of common sense.
First of all, people have given their reasons for not wanting mounts in countless threads by now and are tired to reiterate them again and again.
You guys want mounts and start discussions here. If you open up your pet topics for other people´s opinions, well, you will get them. “No, I don´t want mounts” is as valid a voice as your obsession with them. If you want to discuss the implementation of mounts without all those pesky “mount haters” (seriously? what´s your next stage of typological escalation, “equestrian hate criminals”?) then write to anet directly and discuss your grand vision.
Hello!
I always love to support or heal players but in GW2 I play sd engineer/pu mes. I really tried to be support but it’s not rewarding. What’s the point of stacking might, casting reflection, stability or healing if I can get rewards only for killing? Class with many AoE skills win (if we’re talking about reward).
I’m asking because in next update we’ll get more support traits but I don’t see any point of supporting zerg (buffs, healing) in WvW if I can only get reward for killing.
speaking from experience, if you cannot tag multiple opponents with a SD engi, you are doing something VERY wrong.
So are you telling me a newcomer has to craft all the way to 400 and then get orichalcum (which respawns daily) just to get (probably) one exotic trinket per day ( this thinking that he can get the 5 orbs to craft it)
yes, like we all did.
The solution is having 2 items with the highest attainable stats which can also be changed according to your build. There, it is fixed.
Many professions have a speed boost built in, like necromancers. Mounts will just make the game less enjoyable to play. Why? It is because players on mounts tend to agro everything and run past players not on mounts and that causes issues for those players. This was very common in Rift and TERA, 2 games that have mounts.
This phenomenon already exists in game. Not just once I stood parked on a WP for some time and players travels near there followed by a mob which just stopped and start attacking me. That is just not a reason.
And I do not say that with mounts WP should be removed or reduced in number. Instead of using a Fire Great Sword to travel quicker, I just could very well to ride a mount. Nothing is changed in terms of gameplay rules. About combat, as others mentioned, a mount could have HP. If you get hit a specific amount of damage, you dismount. This^
its clear that the people against are being rather selfish, “i dont want it so no one gets it”
i played guild wars 1 for about 3k hours and ive now played gw2 for the same, so in everyone who says that they dont want it because of gw1 its rubbish, speak for yourselves and dont shove your opinions into other peoples mouths,
id love the idea of mounts for pve open world, it makes so much sense and would make it more equal for travel between professions
“mounts are great” is also an opinion. You see, that whole shift the discussion to the meta level-trick of discrediting the other party works in all directions.
