Each mine from mine field strips boons and can have its explosion radius increased, this roughly translates to a potential of 30 boons stripped per 19 seconds without any gadget or toolbelt reductions. With expanded radius, and proper placement, this is an easy feat, just be aware of blindness. Typical strategy is shield or gear shield into enemy zerg, drop mines, dodge, and detonate mid-dodge to avoid being blinded. The closer they stack, the more you strip.

If you’re playing apo bomb heals and trying to do damage with your bomb 1 attack, you’re playing it wrong. If you need stability you can run elixir X, which can be very good if used properly. Also if you’re walking straight into the enemies initial stuns and aoe’s, you’re playing it wrong. Sidestep and walk through the side back to your team. If you get focused, elixir gun toolbelt has a stun breaker and then combo it with shield or gear shield. Fumigate alone allows you to give the most possible cleansing to your teammates if you fire it correctly.

If you use all skills when they are off cooldown, yeah, it will be bad. If you use your skills wisely you are capable of doing decent damage, high sustain, lots of team support and lots of debuffs for enemies. It can be very satisfying if you take the time to maximize your effectiveness. A typical non-crit no-power bomb hits for about 500 as well, which isn’t nothing. But with apo build, normal 1 skill bombs are more for when your team stacks for healing or are retreating. For damage you should be using your other bombs, pistol, nails, prybar, and then when not doing your damage skills you are using your debuffs or teamsupport skills.

Apo bomb heal builds are all about adapting to combat situations, since you have more than 1 role to perform.

Couple of things.

U’re right, bomb 1 does hit (non crit) in the 500-600 range.
I don’t think Bomb 1 is a blast finisher so using it in water fields won’t do squat.
Necros/Mesmers seem to be better boon strippers than engineers.
I have not read anywhere that Mine field also removes boon, it’s not in the skill text.
Yes, we can play a support role but other classes support a crap load better than us.

These are just my opinions, not fact…

Please! Cap condition duration, stop putting all conditions on 1 ability, remove the AoE limit and add a cooldown to the perplexity runes. These changes would make me a much happier person…

Ummmm, that vid looked like a guardian doing 15K burst in a split sec. I don’t know what u were trying to convey but the least of my worries is a condi war when there are guards that can burst like that.

I am mostly running as an apothecary engi these days. I don’t use toolkit I use rocket boots instead. F skill on Healing turret and rocket boots is <3.

currently have perplexity runes for some damage. Also I take protection injection and vigorous speed in the alchemy tree instead of backpack regen.

My build with explanation if interested

I don’t recommend this for zergs. In fact I don’t think Engis are good in zergs because the fun of being an engi is the kit switching and comboing skills. In zergs you just need to know where your “1” button is since you will likely encounter skill lag. Better off as a guard or a warrior there.

I morally decline to use perplexity runes, as they are broken. I still believe they need to be nerfed and I hope that they will be. I run rune of traveler instead, which allows me to avoid a number of wasted trait points simply for perma swiftness, and I can run healing turret for team play. I build tankier and with more support that way. I run 40% condi duration reduce combo’d with transmute minor. This makes you incredibly tanky and keeps conditions off you.

Saying bomb heal builds are not good for zergs is false. I have been incredibly effective with this apothecary bomb heal build I am currently using. Rocket boots is nice but it promotes sloppy play, as you have an easy escape, and don’t need to try as hard. Toolkit offers much more versatility, team play, and sustain if played with properly. Like chain magnet pulls on enemy commanders when they have lost stability. A commander kill at the right moment can disrupt enemy movements severely and give you a window of opportunity to close out a battle. Toolkit auto attack does cleaving vulnerability. Box of nails is also a fantastic way of slowing a large number of enemies, plus it has a short cooldown and does some minor damage. Gear shield is an easy survive/engage, also on a relatively short cooldown. Throw wrench is a combo projectile finisher both directions, so when combo’d with something like smoke bomb it’s devastating to enemy groups.

If you think engi is ineffective for zergs then you are not experienced enough with it. Are you aware that engineer has the highest boon stripping potential of any class? It can be one of the tankiest, with the most disrupts, CC, and movement, healing, and dps debuffs. Engi allows for lots of team support even with just 1 skill like fumigate. Coordinated large combat is amazingly effective. If you think it’s about knowing where your 1 skill is, then obviously you haven’t been doing this for very long. Skill lag is really only present when all 3 map zergs engage in combat together, like stonemist.

All I was asking about was whether to run healing or condi stacking. But I looked over the ratios for the healing skills, evaluated my current tankyness, and decided on condition stacking.

Apothecary bombs hit like a wet noodle. U have no stability to stand in the middle of the zerg. Sure, u’re tanky and can heal but while u’re wading thru the condi’s and dropping bombs that hit for 300dmg, here comes the hammer train that crits for 2k after ur protection injection, stabilizing armor, and melandra runes and whatever food reduces stun dmg. The problem though is that u’re still stunned for a while while others are wailing on u. A lot of 2k dmg adds up when u can’t move. Also, u’re not exactly helping ur zerg. As far as boon stripping, I know of throw mine but what else?

Don’t get me wrong, it is what it is and u prolly live longer than most, I stay by the commander and try to put down water fields and blast in them but it’s not very … satisfying…

Good points, another thing that just popped in my head is that @ 24K hp, AR pops a lot earlier and so does Self Regulating Defenses, pops at 6K instead of a little under 4K. U really put the bunker in bunker roaming but u do lose a bit of dps. Sigil of Earth could be swapped w/ Sigil of Geomancy of u can land it. I don’t know what other sigil u run with since I keep reading that on crit sigils share cds w/ weapon swap cds, (Sigil of malice?)

Runes of scavenging with condition damage, life steal procs and condition damage based on vitality. Probably more a Necro rune, but worth considering for the price.

Nice find, the 6 pc. translates into 120 condi dmg @ 1719 vitality. The 2 and 4 piece hit for 974 but I don’t think it’s affected by cond dmg.

Lol it’s a bit of a contradiction to bunker and roam, but in the condition meta it’s viable for Necromancers, Warriors, and Engineers to spec heavy into survivability and let the conditions burn down the enemy. I.E. “bunker roaming”, very hard to kill, yet suitable for soloing or small group play as it maintains high DPS through conditions.

LOL, I know what a condi bunker roaming is. I should have stated that better, why is it all about rabid and perplexity. What advantage does rabid/perplexity have over dire/perplexity? Just curious, as I don’t understand why the precision makes a better bunker roamer as they have the same toughness and the procs from Incendiary powder(2912/4secs) and Sharpshooter (367/3secs) and Sigil of Earth (612/5secs) don’t seem to be that much additional dps but I guess over time they add up (728+122.5+122.5 =973/sec). Where as w/ a full dire setup, u’re sitting on anywhere from 21k to 24k hp while maintaining 3k armor.

Or am I just bad at theory crafting, those numbers were based on 1600 condi dmg w/ 0 duration boost.

I don’t know if things have changed but when I ran 20/0/20/30/0, I didn’t suffer from lack of speed at all. In fact, I almost had perma sprint from the duration on sprint from Elixir B, and the rng from Elixir H and the toolbelt skill. Also, with Alchemy VIII, and the first minor in Alchemy, u’re proc’ing a lot of sprint/fury/whatever else. I’m going off the top of my head so I could be wrong.

Building a Dire Engineer for WvW roaming. I already have a full apothecary set w/ runes but while that build can survive forever against many, it can’t really kill any other semi bunker builds. So now I’m building a Dire (Condi Dmg/Vitality/Toughness) and deciding which runes to go with. My choices currently are…

Runes of the Noble (HGH Build)
(1): +28 Condition Damage
(2): +20% Might duration
(3): +55 Condition Damage
(4): +20% Might duration
(5): +100 Condition Damage
(6): When you use a healing skill, gain 3 stacks of might for 10 seconds. (Cooldown: 10s)

vs the popular Runes of Perplexity

(1): +28 Condition Damage
(2): 15% Confusion Duration
(3): +55 Condition Damage
(4): 20% chance to cause Confusion on hit (15 second cooldown).
(5): +100 Condition Damage
(6): +15% Confusion duration. Causes 10 seconds of Confusion on interrupt.

Now, I understand that some still prefer Rabid and the may matter but realistically, I’d be missing out on crit on Sigil of Earth and Firearms 5 pt minor (if I spec’d into it). Plus I’d go from 15K hp to 23k hp so Sigil of Geomancy should be able to sub.

Anywho, back to the original question. Perplexity does dmg and covers other condis and I could run it w/ pretty much any build especially if I have shield and toolkit. On the other hand stacking up to 2300 condi dmg easily w/ HGH nades should be very painful to anyone caught in the blast radius. I’m already farming the Runes of the Noble as they can’t be bought and have 2/5 ascended dire/rabid trinkets. Just curious what the pros think of either set.

After playing my Valkyrie and Cavalier warrior in WvWvW and loving that I could stay alive for soooo long, I’m curious if there’s a build that would allow me to wade into the crowd, dropping bombs and still coming out alive on the other side. Lemme rephrase cause I don’t want it to seem like I’m asking for God mode. My warr is 0/10/30/0/30, typical hammer mace/shield 99% crit dmg build. Unsuspecting “something” trait boosts my crit 50% when target is stunned or knocked down. I love actually being on the front line instead of dying repeatedly on the back from retal. I lvl’d this warr just to enjoy wvw cause I can’t find an enjoyable build for front line zerging.

I’ve recently taken up solo roaming in T1 WvW and it’s been an absolute blast. I decided to fraps a couple nights this past week and these are some of the better 1v2’s I was able to catch. I did my best to only include fights against level 80s, most of which had food. Watching the movie myself I see so many things I could have done better (using FT knockback/blind more, stomping any 1 of those 5 times in the last clip, using TK F2 ever) but I’ve learned a lot from it and hope you can take something out of it as well.

I change my build up pretty much daily but most of this vid is as 10/30/0/20/10, testing out Sigil of Geomancy. Yes, I am using Perplexity. Yes, I agree they need to be removed, but I’m going to ride them out as long as possible because they’re just too much fun

I made this vid purely for entertainment, mostly for my own because it’s fun to fraps but I hope you enjoy and look forward to your comments.

Engineers ate not hard countered by cc warriors. Engineers have access to lots of conditions to cover poison, multiple blinds, knockbacks and 53% less DMG when stunned. Do you all play these classes or just whine about them.

Well, mace+GS vs protection injection is actually an interesting mechanic: protection lasts from 3 seconds (usually people will have 20 points in alchemy -> 3.6 seconds duration). This means you can use another stun / daze to proc it, wait it off, then use Skull Crack. But that means you’ll have just a 1.4 seconds window to land Skull Crack. If the engi knows it, he might try to static shot you as soon as his protection wears off, or dodge out of melee range.

Ideally, that means that protection injection is a counter strategy that lets the enemy use a counterstrategy which admits a counterstrategy too.

A counter for a counter for a counter. Counterception. We must go deeper.XD

Well, said that, probably that won’t happen: the warrior will bash th engi with the mace, not caring about protection. Probably neither of them will deal enough damage to take down the other: warrior is extremely resistant to condi damage coming from a single source and can disable the engi to reduce his condition output, engi can easily negate warrior’s pressure.

Now, if he brought a dps friend, I’m boned cause he can incapacitate me enough for the other to burn me down but he also has to contend w/ smoke bomb, static shock, and equally as important, my pseudo passive heals from backpack regen, elixir infused bombs, and the EG5. My points in alchemy trait line when fighting melee is acidic coating, protection injection and backpack regen. Acidic coating = more free blinds…

Or he could just chain stuns on them since condi classes have kitten for stunbreaks and stability. Conversely, he can get over 60 seconds of stability/berserker stance at the start of a fight if he wants to go that way instead. If you’re struggling with condis as a warrior we’re not going to find any middle ground for a conversation I suspect.

Without nave main hand you can call this a sun lock build. 60 seconds of stability? Wtf? Warriors are a new supper class? They are very susceptible to burst when endure pain is down. Super was dead in most fights in the PAX finals.

Highlighted the part you failed to comprehend. Also if you think warriors can’t get over a minute where they always have either stability or berserker stance, you fail again.

Please break down for a bad how a warr can get over a min of stability. The only combo of such includes rampage, endure pain, dolyak signet and the trait that procs endure pain, w/ possibly the stance duration pushing it up by 25%. So that’s 20, 10, 8, 10. Susceptible to condis and 20 secs of that can’t use his weaps. But if u think rampage is worth taking over elite banner and sor, I can see why u’re whining.

Condispam meta has nothing to do with anet. Hivemind too slow to figure out the counter is all. 5000 people just watched a warrior walk all over SYNC and the spvp forum is still whining about condis. Good for lols I guess.

The warrior walked all over the ranger… because the rangers stood in AOE fire field which took out all spirits (something people have been saying is a counter for a while). 3 matches does not all of a sudden shift meta because 1 team was able to coordinate very well against a HIGHLY overconfident team which played very poorly.

Good thing the other condi builds destroy warriors right?

I used the runes the day after they were released, it worked well, but I didnt like how gimmicky it felt.

My experiences fighting people who use it have been hilarious. they keep expecting to win by simply stacking confusion, I’ve humiliated every single one of the guys I’ve seen use it. Today we had a 2v5 where 4 out of the 5 were using perplexity… 3 of them thieves, 1 mesm … and they still lost. In fact they lost so badly they swapped toons/builds after the 3rd defeat or so.

It’s a cheesy gimmicky rune set and it should be op… but all it takes is some paying attention. I stil think it deserves a cooldown, it doesnt make sense otherwise. on a related note, epidemic on those 25 stacks is hilarious :p

Also, in high healing power builds as the Healing Turret doesn’t scale well with healing powered, whereas the dropped bandages scale very well, which makes a case for using Med Kit in this build.

What about the blast finishers in that overcharged healing turret? I can usually do 2 or 3 in 1 overcharge. Do those scale w/ Healing power cause I’m near 1800 hp w/ sigil of life stacks.

Bullkitten. Check the last fight, vs 4 people. No matter how skilled you are you can’t hope to troll around wvw with that many people wailing at you and coming out unscathed. Do you understand that any of his opponent in 1v1 STOOD NO CHANCE?

Its 1 thing to be able to beat someone 1v1, its another when your opponent might as well drop dead. Don’t be so biased please. 550hp/sec regen on signet of healing is OP no matter how look at it.

Well that is a complicated answer to be honest, I don’t use just one particular build. It will vary based on the particular content and group composition we are taking (almost always full zerker gear for pve though). I rarely pug so it makes it easier for me to do this. I would say if you want to be able to adapt to most situations the easiest, running 30/15/0/0/25 or 30/5/0/10/25 are going to be your best bets. One will give you slightly more damage potential through increase crit chance and the other slightly better survival potential through having permanent vigor. Both of those builds will use the HT, GK, BK, and EG and P/S. The build posted in this thread by the op is highly specialized and tailored really to a specific group comp and playstyle to achieve it’s maximum efficiency.

Bombs means I’m in the front line of a zerg (On Blackgate, there’s really no other type of wvw), Nades is retal magnet. I guess what I really need is a burst class (thief, mesmer, or ele) to kill folks while I tank and draw their aggro for skirmishes and havoc.
