So the last few days I’ve thrown on a mentor tag and spammed map chat for up to 20 minutes to get 2 to 3 other people to join me for these Champion hero points. It’s not fun and should be changed to match the first maps changes.
I see other players that have already done it running past as the rewards are terrible and don’t encourage anyone to complete them again after getting their points.
My favorite is getting yelled at for not helping with META events and people saying HPs should be disabled during them. Well if the HPs didn’t take 4+ people and 20 minutes to gather a group i’m sure people would be more willing to do them at a more convenient time.
I’m sure i’ll get lots of blah blah MMORPG, blah blah Elitism. I have full elite specs trained on 3 characters and running the rest of my alts through is getting worse and worse as the majority of players have what they wanted trained.
When they dried up every source of gold in the game and nerfed every farm/salvage we could do the AH responded by the price of everything dropping substantially. Gold now has more buying power than it did for auctions.
It’s much more expensive to craft ascended now then before HOT.
I already thought that super speed was a gimmick from the reveal but the fact that rapid regeneration doesn’t scale with healing power still blew my mind. As if healing coefficients weren’t bad enough in this game.
Overall I’d say it’s just above Beserker for least usable elite spec.
Methinks you’ve not seen Druid. :P
I’ve actually been enjoying druid. The pet damage changes have been amazing and thier trait lines are so much better then ours. One dedicated to long bow, one to healing, and one to pet damage. I’ve found staff a great weapon to pair with long bow as I used to use greatsword just for mobility. This is all open world pve opinion.
Totally agree they should all be nerfed from champions. I’ve had to stand around for 20 minutes with my mentor tag on spamming in map chat and still only get 2 other people which is 50/50 for if you’ll even be able to do it.
Remember when you used to make content that scaled? If it’s one person it’s a veteran if it’s 5+ it can be a champion.
It’s already a problem getting help on these and it’s only going to get worse in time.
Function gyro is a joke of an added utility.
Gyros are unusable.
Hammer is alright but I sure don’t want to be in melee in HOT.
Trait line is alright but they screwed up the other lines so bad I find it basically unusable.
Overall I’d say it’s just above Beserker for least usable elite spec.
Not really. They have nerfed some hp challenges to not be champion mobs on 4 minute timers but every map has some variant of a meta event like Silverwastes or Drytop. The VAST majority of events in HOT can’t be solo’d so you’ll be relying on others to come along and help or just joining events with people already participating.
The last map is a full on map wide zerg. You start in an area and just follow the train doing event after event. These can absolutely not be solo’d.
Overall this is one of my biggest complaints about HOT as it’s a total departure from the original. If you’re ever on an empty map you might as well leave.
Precursor crafting is for people how want to do the quest for the experience or for people who don’t understand opportunity costs and can’t associate saving gold with getting closer to buying one off the tp.
Basically it’s changed nothing in regards to if you were able to craft a legendary before.
Gave it a 3/10 before and I’d say 4/10 now that I’ll actually get to play my elite specs. They still heavily nerfed rewards all across the board, the new event participation timeout is horrible, and I still don’t like that they changed open world pve to require groups without stating so up front.
Have to remake ascended armor for light or leather classes. If you don’t have leather working or tailoring at 500 I’d assume it’d be about 600g for either set. Legendary armor isn’t in yet I believe it comes with raids in a few weeks.
3/10
First two maps are beautiful and enjoyed the gliding and mushroom hopping.
But overall I find myself having to push myself to even go back to the jungle. Everything is gated, the rewards aren’t in line with the work, the vast majority of things can’t be solo’d, players are often few and far in between, the mobs hit too hard and take too long to kill given the rewards, most events haven’t been very fun, I won’t realistically be able to play my elite specializations for all of my characters for at least a month given my play time.
If I would have known this is the direction the game was going I would have quit long ago. They have actually made a pretty hardcore grindy mmo when the original game was the complete opposite.

I can’t imagine a grinder “no grind” game.
So someone thinks ok I want to raid in GW2 with a druid, looks fun. They first have to grind to 80, grind hero points in the old world, grind masteries so they can grind hero points in the jungle, grind fractals or gold so they can get ascended gear, all before they can even think of doing the content they were attracted to in the first place. See a problem here?
I’ve done map completion on a character, it was horrible and I never want to do it again. I have a character of every profession because that to me is actual content that I enjoy. When you’re putting up these artificial time barriers to content that screams to me that you know you’re light on content and have to make it up by stalling people out.
This change feels horrible. I used to love turning 180 degrees to fire off my backwards leap and do another 180 degree spin to keep going in the direction I want. With the range on this thing now it’s probably not even worth bothering to do anything but run. This was my favorite part of the elixir gun and one of the main things I enjoyed about the engineer between jump shot and rocket boots.
Please revert this mobility nerf it’s extremely unnecessary. I realize it was just a bug fix but it’s a bug fix from something that’s been that way as long as I remember so i’d like to see an extra 100 or so range added to it so it’s useful again.
What I think that ANet should offer to people who don’t want to use the non phone Authenicator is an agreement that if hacked, before support restores their account, they they will pay supports costs to get their account back and do the account rollback to replace deleted chars and items. That way you can play without having the “harrassment” of having to click that button and ANet doesn’t have to pay the costs of people who refuse the security and then get hacked.
What I think ANet should offer to people who need to use an Authenticator is an agreement that since they are so technology inept at keeping their computers and accounts uncompromised, even with an already existing email verification required from new ip address, that they be willing to pay a stupid tax for the Authenticator service itself since it’s robbing development time from their less technologically challenged players.
1. Exotics do still drop. They’re just a low drop rate because they’re exotic.
2. Ascended armor chests do drop in PVE from champ bags, just like the weapon chests do. And you’re not meant to get those drops often because they’re the highest tier gear and, thus, a very rare drop.
3. Black lion keys have always dropped, just at an incredibly low rate. Sadly, I don’t see that changing.
1) I get about one exotic a night from a few laps of Silverwastes which seems reasonable.
2) I have gotten one ascended chest drop from three years of playing and that was in a Silverwastes chest.
3) I have played since release and have had one black lion key drop off a mob the first week before they nerfed the rate into oblivion.
I think two or three could definitely be improved on. I personally don’t like that specific mobs don’t have different loot tables. It makes it so you can do anything but can’t really work towards specific goals other then farming gold which you can use to buy things from the TP.
I haven’t preordered because I haven’t seen enough content to justify $50 yet. I’ll probably end up doing it if the druid looks like it will be fun so I can get the character slot but i’m guessing there will be quite a few sales over the Christmas season so it’d probably still be cheaper to wait and buy an extra slot with money after release if it looks like it’s worth it.
Honestly after seeing what they turned med kit into did you have any hope of them making another decent heal option for us? Just be glad we atleast get healing turret as a good option for the slot.
I personally doubt any of the gyros will be a real option with having health bars (minus the stealth elite for some trolling). The only turret I use is healing and 10/10 times I blast that or pick it up as soon as it’s down.
I love rifle, elixer gun, rocket boots, and grenades or bombs. 3 leaps for quick mobility and aoe damage.
I did one run which I thankfully got reward for and my 30 blooms. Thought about the fact that it took 30 minutes, didn’t get any other drops or experience, and it wasn’t particularly fun trying to wp around to tag mobs in time. Decided it’s probably not worth the 45 hours plus 10g to get one of those tonics if I was even able to put in that much time in only the next 4 days.
Arenanet is really doing us favors lately. They made the sales so bad I haven’t even thought about wasting money on gems and they made these rewards so expensive I don’t even have to think about trying to grind them out. Really nice work listening to your customer base and good impression for all the newbies you’re trying to get to purchase your game.
There is a cap on total condition duration. It’s goofy though because you can somewhat bypass it with individual traits that specify individual conditions.
Example if you have 100% condition duration and get another 20% condition duration your bleeds will only tick for twice their normal duration.
If you have 100 % condition duration and a trait that adds 40% bleed duration your bleeds will tick for their normal duration plus 1.4 times their normal duration.
Because that line of reasoning is pretty nonsensical.
The idea that maxing out crit chance at the expense of power for the most dps is counter intuitive to me, it has diminishing returns. There has to be a number based on power, precision, and ferocity that has max dps.
I scoured the web for a bit and found a few guides:
The most recent is Brazil from DnT recommending zerkers, around 11:28 on his video you can see his spreadsheet with the breakdown of stats.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-k-BLJiBbA
I found their generic power vs precision table as well.
http://www.dtguilds.com/forum/m/6563292/viewthread/19418960-math-balancing-power-precision-ferocity-based-on-ep
I have seen advice like this in the past for other GW2 builds and as someone that came from the WOW theory crafting days it’s never made sense to me. Back then the recommended builds would be something like get to 66% crit then build power.
The reason being that on a given roll for if an ability will crit everything past that up to your critical chance is basically wasted stats. I have never seen a GW2 theory crafter take that into account and I’ve never understood why, have any insight?
I feel like engie has been gutted. A lot of our old fun build options are gone since we now have to full invest in only three trees.
The only saving grace was the long range mortar elite was a lot of fun until it was nerfed severely.
Unless something changes drastically i’ll probably be done with the class and likely the game.
I was very disappointed to see this too. I used to love being in the heart of the zerg doing good damage and providing a ton of healing support in Silverwastes in my celestial gear. I really dislike the way these new traits work, it feels like they’ve dumbed down so many builds forcing you to fully invest in only three lines.
I was planning on buying the expansion but with the price as it is I think i’ll wait it out to see what kind of content there actually is. I’ve not at all been impressed with their focus on living story, haven’t bothered doing the vast majority of it as a single player experience in an MMO is not my idea of fun. From what I have seen so far i’d have trouble justifying the cost at even $30 without atleast a character slot.
Now the REAL grind begins. Here’s the guide I used to gear up.
If you don’t want to do it for fun I wouldn’t worry about professions until it comes time to craft ascended weapons and armor it’s too much of a gold sink. You can see http://www.gw2crafts.net/ for estimated costs.
For me the most fun is EOTM or Silverwastes farming but every body is different.
So my server is ranked 2nd to last in WvW, it’s weeks between when I pop in there and actually see a commander so that’s out. This leaves EOTM as my only WvW like experience to actually do something and have fun.
I don’t remember the last time I wasn’t outnumbered. It’s pathetic. Attached a screen shot of tonight. Totally dominated by other two sides, literally getting camped as far back as they could get us. This game is a joke of balance.
I won’t be buying any gems and especially not an expansion if this isn’t fixed. This isn’t a unique situation we are camped at spawn, regularly. The outnumbered buff isn’t enough, the zergs on my team are so small a single arrow cart is enough to hold us off until they can come farm their bags. It’s a horrible experience and i’m sick of it.
Fix your game.
This is interesting since we are constantly told by low tier players that the lower tiers are not dead. That there’s plenty of action.
Borlis Pass, second to last in rating, tier 8. I think some people have misguided server pride and don’t want their home to become obsolete but the mega servers change already sealed that fate for all lower tier wvw servers.
On my server WvW isn’t even worth going into. It’s a ghost land owned by the rival servers that I use for a free port.
That leaves EOTM for large scale battles. In the last few months I can count on one hand the number of times we haven’t had the out numbered buff. Sometimes you’ll get in and see no commanders and everyone getting camped near spawn. Welp guess i’ll try again later.
It sucks. The mega server has generally been great for all of the PVE content so it’s really time to implement that for WvW. Telling new players they are better off deleting the character they just made and rerolling on a tier 1 server to not waste $20+ in the future isn’t a great welcome to the game.
TLDR: EOTM is the only fun large scale thing I can do and because of server imbalance I effectively can’t often.
I know I personally just log in, get daily chest, then logout. I used to play about a half hour on edge of the mists mainly getting achievements but now not even that. The only reason I log in is on the slight chance they decide to add content to the game at some point in the future. Anyone else in the same boat?
Also if any devs/managers are reading I don’t open the gem store to buy items during this 20 second log in either.
I agree I think these are worse then before. I used to be able to jump into EOTM for half an hour and actual enjoy myself while getting my events, leveler, gatherer, defender or kills, and use my bags for the recycler.
Yesterday I had to way point to two different spots to grab a vista and then gather some plants.
EOTM is pretty much the only thing I enjoy in this game anymore so taking that away from the daily rewards just encourages me to stop playing all together which means no log in, which means no store viewing, which means no purchases which I know is ANETs ultimate goal.
You know there is no balance when one guy who plays thief says he dies to anyone he fights and in the same thread someone responds not to fight thieves because they are impossible to fight against
There is no chance that both of them can be correct right!?
I said they aren’t worth fighting because they can escape and there is nothing you can do about it. The OP is saying that he isn’t winning fights.
If he’s sticking around trying to down someone he’s not trying to escape so the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Most thieves I’ve fought disengage as soon as they see the fight isn’t going their way.
It would seem very reasonable to me to have a 5 player limit for the skills effect, as this limit was forced upon other skills with AoEs thay effect multiple targets. I feel it is needed for the sake of congruency alone.
Walls specifically do not have a limit so it’s very much the same as similar skills. Honestly you need a brain dead zerg to fall for this so I think it’s a nice IQ check against those that can’t be bothered to press one button or know what stability is.
This game really isn’t balanced when it comes to individual classes so here are my WvW solo tips.
Avoid fighting warriors unless you have a group, they are basically raid bosses. They are incredibly tanky, have insane regeneration, and all at the cost of still having high damage, condi cleanses, stability, and insane mobility. They are the golden children of this game, the justification for being OP is they are designed for new players but a good player on them can pop all of their cd’s and wreck a small group.
Don’t bother fighting guardians if you think their allies might come, too tanky and takes too long to down them.
Don’t bother fighting thieves and to a lesser extent knowledgeable mesmers, their stealth get aways as soon as a fight turns south are ridiculous. You’ll never catch them so don’t bother trying.
That leaves up levels, engineers, necros, elementalists, and rangers that are even worth bothering trying to one vs one.
Another thing to be cognoscente of is map awareness. Try to keep track of zergs and think where their spawns are so what route catch up players will be taking to get to them.
I’ve only done one living story episode and it was incredibly painful and not at all fun (The talking to guests at a party one to get someone to catch them in a lie). I haven’t finished my personal story on any of my characters either and I have 6 80s. If I wanted a good story i’d read a book or play a single player games.
Massively Mulitplayer RPGs and instanced story telling have no business being in bed together. It’s just a kitten poor medium in my mind and the fact that it’s getting development time really speaks to how out of touch I think ArenaNet is with the players.
If anyone’s curious I play these games for the game play and interactions between professions. I’d personally like to see them add more weapons, skills, and professions to keep the game from getting stale. Before they do that they need to overhaul the broken base of the game and fix the Zerker meta by incentivazing other gear choices and fix condition damage.
So like others have said this is a very poor change and is disgustingly obvious of your greed. You have one of the most loyal player bases in the business despite any real investment of new content on your end and it’s like you’re actively trying to push them away.
Since you like to make things clear for new players i’ll try to make things clear for new managers at ANET. I won’t be buying any more gems to support you until this changes and i’ll actively tell people this game isn’t worth playing. K? Thanks!
This change is terrible, it takes so many more clicks and work then it used to. Another example of your dumbing down the game just frustrating players, please revert or give the option of what we want as default.
