Why are adventures needed to get masteries? Aren’t there enough mastery points outside of adventures?
(I ask this as a genuine question. I really don’t know about this)

There are but some suck even more than adventure gold. The living story ones are locked behind EXTREMELY buggy content. Others are locked behind horrible meta achievement grinds for collections.

I just gave up trying to max out masteries and have been exp capped and short on points for months. Overall just another horribly designed system that maybe they’ll fix in three years if the game is still around.

Why did they call this game "casual "

Alone.1784

It’s the most grindy game I’ ever played.

Then you haven’t played many games at ALL!!! In other games farming gear is ALL you do and you never, ever finish.

Here is why GW2 is the LEAST grindy game I’ve ever played.

1. Top gear doesn’t change, once you have top tier, it will ALWAYS be top tier.

2. You can play 99% of the highest level content very competently with the THIRD highest tier of gear.

3. Ascended gear is actually pretty easy to get but is designed that it CANNOT just be bought. You have to play the game to earn it and it takes a little time BUT while you are farming it you can still play with 99% effectiveness in exotic gear.

You can absolutely buy ascended gear. Buy gems, convert to gold, buy mats, level crafting, craft ascended.

Why did they call this game "casual "

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Alone.1784

Alone.1784

Because

1. you don’t need ascended to do content, it’s not gated by armor, you can do quite nicely with exotics and

2. there’s no new tier of gear next week, or next month, or next year. Sure it might take you 2 months to get your gear. But that’s it.

You may find that grindy…but I don’t.

Legendary is cosmetic and convenience but ascended is absolutely necessary for fractal content.

Also there have been gear grinds if you play condi. First rampagers/dire to sinister from season 2 achievements now to viper from hot maps/raids/ and hot story.

This is in addition to new runes and sigils that have power creeped as well.

Any plans on adding all the ascended trinkets to the vendor? Right now those are the only rings/amulets with stats like assassin, viper, etc

Yes, I’ve got a number of improvements/fixes for Spirit Vale that will be coming out with the next raid wing, and this is one of them. You’ll also be able to infuse the rings and backpack, and extra raid miniatures will no longer clutter up your bags.

Are there any plans on making these best in slot viper ascended accessories available outside of raids?

For condi players who enjoy fractals and wvw it doesn’t seem right to force them into raids which have been stated to not be for everyone to get their best in slot gear.

Easier said than done as many of central tyria points are locked behind ridiculous 100+ hr achievements.

Rune of Leadership price

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Alone.1784

Alone.1784

I did dragon stand for 7 days and found my own route for getting crystalline ore. I open about 30 pods per each run. In 7 days, I managed to get 6 runes of leadership. It was a lot of work but I felt really good after earning the runes. It was easier to get than the precursor collection or making ascended armor, imo. It was tough and challenging but DragonStand is suppose to be the hardest map of HoT, so I’m fine with that.

So you did around 20 runs of Dragonstand which is about 40 hours for 6 runes. The previous most expensive runes are 10g a piece with some as cheap as vendor cost which would be at worst 6 hours of farming SW which is less then 1/6th of the time you took to get 6 runes.

This isn’t a precursor, legendary journey, or even ascended equipment. You can farm the gold to craft an ascended weapon in about 10 hours which is a quarter of the time you took to get 6 runes.

The most challenging part of Dragonstand is taxing onto a map that is actually going to do it. It’s a 2 hour zerg where you have to hope the other 90 people aren’t idiots and can follow simple instructions.

I can’t believe people are arguing this is a reasonable grind. You’re talking a two hour meta gathering 40 ores if you’re lucky. For a full set of 7 that’s about 18 runs.

You think 36 hours of a timed event that isn’t always available is ok for one rune set that isn’t realisticaly recoverable?

That’s literally worse than Korean mmo gear grinds.

This set is a perfect example of what’s wrong with HOT and the gold/time sinks that are plaguing the game.

There are 17 more tyria mastery points than required to max them all. So there are plenty of options
For HoT there are 22 more mastery points than required. Good luck.

I like the luminesct full set as a mastery point. That’s what a 100 hour acheviement for 1 mastery point? That seems fair and reasonable.

Considering we are likely going to be waiting 3 months for them to fix the “bug” where they removed the multiple fractal key purchase option I would count on them getting to this sometime in 2116.

Seriously though there are tons of stuff like this, celestial armor saying it’s stats to “all” which is no longer true. They obviously didn’t want to take the development resources to fix these issues when they were introduced so I would assume that won’t change in the future.

January 26th Update: Your feedback

Very lazy pve balance with it now being a detriment to playing with others if you’re a burnzerker or revenant attacking in the same 1/2 second.

Removed many bulk buying options like for fractal keys and lucky envelopes. Why do I have to click thing so many times?

Kind of crushed chronos, they should have the full effects of alacrity since their cd’s were based around it.

Only fixed the literally impossible adventure. You still have pve progression locked behind stupid mini games that we were told were optional and are only available for minutes every few hours. That’s some horrible design and add in the fact that many are still way too tightly timed and rely on rng and you have kittened off players.

I was excited when it was announced you were looking to fix some of the more useless skills. I mainly play engineer and med kit is absolute trash. I’d love the devs run a report to see how many players currently have that equipped at any given moment. Our trait lines are still terrible and need to be rearranged.

I don’t know who thought the thief update was ready to go but maybe spamming literally 1 and not using the classes skills or unique mechanics and doing way more damage then my 52 button rotation isn’t the best idea.

Many HOT annoyances are still around, i’d like a dev response if the LFG meta is what they wanted. I have to play with LFG constantly open hoping to get into a good map that isn’t full.

I don’t wvw much but i’ve read some numbers on the upgrade changes and it seems pretty bad.

Overall outside of flying in the core game which is nice but nothing special since there aren’t enough mushrooms/jumps/updrafts to really take advantage of it the patch left me greatly unimpressed and I feel like the development resources aren’t being allocated to fix the game to make it good again.

As a pve player mainly, Scrapper no longer has an elite spec for me. Yes, playing with the hammer was fun for a while, but it’s suboptimal DPS, so I stick with condi pistols. And all gyros are terrible now. I love it when Guardians complain about their 4 Spirit weapons, and here I am, with all these turrets and gyros.

But when I was roaming, or playing with more laid-back groups, I did tend to switch to Scrapper and slot Sneak Gyro. Stealth rezzing, dropping aggro, gathering resources without pesky mobs annoying me, I knew it was up for use. But not anymore. Pvp dictates the balance once more, taking small steps is not a concept in Anet’s heads, and now engineer doesn’t get to play along with the cool kids in the expansion.

We are the jack of no trades, a condi dps dealer with no utility that’s being outshined by the soon-to-be-buffed Berserker.

Completely agree with you and I too used sneak gyro to bypass the horrible open world pve mobs to do my gathering. Might end up changing scrapper for alchemy line since all the gyros will be useless now.

AR is the worst gating mechanic I can think of from any MMORPG. It’s incredibly confusing and counter intuitive with infusions and infused versions of items. Worst of all it’s not useful in any other part of the game. I crafted a set of ascended armor for 600g now I have to choose between some nice advantages in wvw that come with the added bonus of stats that are useful EVERYWHERE or AR which is a PVE gimmick they added for who the hell knows why?

I think they are too far entrenched in the AR system but they should seriously scrap it if they want to make a better game and get more people playing fractals.

Why I think HoT failed

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Alone.1784

Alone.1784

I agree with most of what he said although personally I hate the adventures. With them being locked behind meta events I literally had a period of 20 minutes to do shooting gallery before nightfall yesterday. On top of that many are RNG with too tight timing requirements. On top of that many require masteries like speed mushrooms which they don’t tell you anywhere in game. On top of that the worst thing is them locking masteries behind this optional content which makes it not optional.

Also I thought the elite specs were pretty fun for the most part although definitely agree they are straight upgrades which I’m assuming was to force pvpers to buy HOT to stay relevant.

I do consider HOT a failure as I finish most sessions of playing annoyed and didn’t have fun. Also I have lost my faith in ANET and don’t plan on buying any of their future products unless it’s proven complete and without significant bugs.

Well this is my second chance to play today and once again i’m not able to work on the adventure because the meta is happening. When you have a kid or things going on in your life it’s very difficult to schedule a game around your free time. Super fun to do my skill rotation against the biggest HP sponge in the game for 60 minutes because a gimmick mechanic in the middle is totally bugged. Was going to do achievements since it’s the ONLY way to get a viper amulet but i’m not touching that steaming pile again until it actually works reliably. Also after the bugs get fixed if ever how about check points in the different stages of the fight, or how about reduce the length of the kill as it’s incredibly boring.

Alone.1784

I agree HOT is absolutely terrible. I have to force myself to play and it never ends in a rewarding experience.

I was doing the adventures that I hate and was told were optional to get mastery points when getting very close to gold night time hits. Oh here’s a 40 minute break before you can even do the content you don’t want to do so you can get something you basically need. Screw around for a bit until patri pops and go to fight her. Not nearly enough people and unlike GW2 since the content doesn’t scale at all in HOT GG. We have her at about 3% after the 20 minute fight and nope you lose no rewards. Then I get to go back to my “optional” adventures until the meta decides I can’t even work on that anymore.

Honestly I’ve never seen an expansion screw up so many great things from the original game. It’s like it was designed by a completely different company. The vast majority of my days since HOT came out are logging in to get my daily reward and flax grinding. I guess I still bother doing that in the hopes that they will fix it but i’m not holding my breath.

So these things we were told would be optional really aren’t for a large amount of stuff, are heavily influenced by server side interactions which ping destroys, and are only available at certain times.

I’d argue there are actually only three maps as the last one is basically a meta event that resets on a 2 hour timer.

Alone.1784

I agree the new area’s are way too difficult and it’s more than a learn to play issue.

The mobs take much longer to kill and are much more dangerous but have worse rewards then ever.

The mobs difficulty feels artificial as the majority have gotten extremely strong attacks, cc, and evade frames/stealth they just use in order.

They often have tied afro tables so while it looks like you’ll just pull one you’ll also get his 6 other friends that aren’t anywhere close.

You might be able to see cues and dodge intelligently vs 1 or 2 mobs but how about a group of 7? You just aoe and pray.

If you do die the way points are extremely few and far between and often contested making it an even longer run back and the vertical nature of the maps make it even worse.

It seems like they realized how barren the maps would feel and put in mobs to the brim basically making it impossible to enjoy the view or stop to take a breather.

On top of all this they’ve reduced the respawn times to minutes so I’ve often been trying to go through I’m assuming as intended killing mobs in my way only to have a group I just killed respawn nearly on top of me.

Lastly we only got 3 maps as Dragons stand is just a two hour reseting meta event.

Overall I’m very dissatisfied by the expansion as a whole and the new direction ANET has taken the game. I think they are going to lose the “hardcore” players as they’ve never been able to produce content at a reasonable pace and they have basically excluded casual players with their design choices for the expansion.

Gems and Gold (and Time)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Alone.1784

Alone.1784

Its funny how people keep claiming this, yet they fail to give any evidence that this is the case. The gem->gold ratio has been incredibly stable since hot launch, hovering around 20g for 100 gems, with 10% variation, depending on the time of day.
If so much more players are forced to buy gold now and gold in general is so hard to come by, I wonder why the ratio isnt going down.

Not sure what proof you’re looking for. The reward nerfs have been highly detailed by both ANET and community members.

For the gems to gold ratio no one but them really know what that algorithm looks like but I would think anyone with some critical thinking skills could figure out how them being the only authorized gold seller then creating massive gold sinks would serve to benefit them.

It’s not unlike Comcast charging for going over a set amount of data in a month but then allowing thier on demand video not to count against that cap. They are encouraging you to use their service.

For some players they are going to refuse to buy gold so they just know certain items they will never own so they don’t even try. I’m in that camp, saw nightfury looked cool so was prepared to “work hard” over Halloween for it until it was discovered to just be a 3200g sink and wrote off ever having it.

At the moment gold is mainly flowing into the economy by huge guilds that are actually leveling scribing and building out their guild halls. When that ends and mat prices dry up I think it will be even worse for normal players as rewards will be even further out of reach.

Honestly I feel like we’ve already lost a ton of players from the first few weeks of the expansion and I think that will only get worse until they do something about their grindy reward structure.

Power, Vitality, Healing Power

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Healing power is a near worthless stat, you don’t want to waste points on it. Check out the scaling of your skills, it’s just horrible. Now factor in that much of your healing will be wasted on targets at full health.

If you can provide protection boon duration is much better, if you can supply weakness condition duration is much better and in both cases your mitigating more damage then any amount of healing power would provide.

This is coming from someone who loves healing and owns a full celestial ascended set.

They should have rolled healing power in with boon duration but it looks like they will just continue to have it sit on the backburner so i’d avoid if at all possible.

In fact a lot of the meta events I can now just jump in with 3 minutes left on the 20+ minute event to get full credit as the only thing that counts is making sure you’re there at the end.

I’m still seeing people running HPs all the time. I rarely have to wait at a HP for long before a few others show up. All of them can be done with a standard group of 5 and some of the champs are even pretty easy with just 2. The way I think of it is…these hero points are worth 10 points! They should be 10 times more difficult than their Central Tyria counterparts. So having champs at many of them is appropriate. Too many aspects of the game (and games in general nowadays) are getting dumbed down and made easy for the instant gratification generation.

With that logic your elite spec should be 4 times as powerful as the regular lines since they cost so much more.

You think adjusting these to vets would be dumbing down the game? If I had a group of 5 people I could do all of these with ease. By myself I flat out can’t do some. That’s not challenging content that’s a numbers check.

I want a one time numbers check that is already taking 20+ minutes to accomplish brought down to solo-able. Ideally they would implement scaling, which is something I loved about the base game, to make it challenging for whatever number of people were there.

Maybe you’re out there rushing to help people asking for it but if you read my original post my experience has been putting on my mentor tag and spamming map for 20 minutes before I get anyone else to show up and help.

I’ve actually seen a number of people run by totally ignoring me waiting by the HP and I don’t blame them at all because the reward for redoing them after you’ve gotten your point is pathetic.

I really don’t get how people consider these challenging content, this is a numbers test plan and simple. I will fully admit I am not good enough to solo the Balthazar HP but I have done it 3 times with relative ease with a group of 5+ players though. I didn’t feel accomplished after getting the HP on my characters I felt relieved I was able to be there with enough others to never worry about it again.

the droprate is way higher than last year on the ToT bags, ive opened about 80k bags and got 5 Tonics, and enough of other stuff to break even after keeping 3 tonics.

Also just dont get the kitten shoulders if u cant afford it, there is plenty of other cool stuff that cost next to nothing…

Someone opened over 100k Trick or Treat bags.

They found a drop rate of 0.0039% drop rate for the endless batwing brew which doesn’t seem that impressive.
