I get the error message “The graphics system failed to initialize. Please restart your client” I didn’t have this problem before i upgraded to windows 7. Please help.
Thanks!
Hi what videocard are you using? Have you tried installing the updated drivers for your videocard? Can you attach also your dxdiag?
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
There might be error in supersampling other than that you can remove the dx9single and just pick auto detect on you graphic card you might want to stay on native too
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
Can you go to Control Panel →Administrative Tools → Event Viewer then under Windows system logs filter the logs to Error and Warning Look for the last reboot of the machine and what event ID did it says or information it says?
Are you running also other programs in the background? Aside from temp programs?

Low frames in large fights regardless of graphis settings
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Alpha Dragon.4576
I’m minimized when looking.
So is there no way to get over my 8 frames a second based on my system? I feel like my machine should be able to handle WvW.
*edit*changing affinity lowered framerate so that didnt help. I guess it is using all 4 after all.
What resolution are you playing? 1920×1080? or lower? As per suggestion you could try overclocking the CPU to 3ghz+ and get about 5 fps in Large WvW. My stock Q6600460GTX is ok in PvE and some small scale WvW (usually 30-40+fps, medium settings1 1680×1050 resolution) but greatly falls below 20 in Large scale WvW.
I have another machine E6300 (2.13ghz lol ) + 560ti (low-med setting 1920×1080) hovers around 15-30fps then drops down to 5-8fps in WvW or Large fights. It seems the first gen Core 2 Quads and Duos are showing up its age.
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
Should look like this
“C:\xxxx\Guild Wars 2\gw2.exe” -dx9single
Don’t use supersampling for now
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
Hi,
Can you post you dxdiag? or the game advisor txt file? It might be a hardware problem.
Thanks.
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
Might be a long shot. Can anyone try adding the -dx9single to your shortcut target line?
@MidgetMonk
Does this occurs in “Native” setting as well? Afaik supersampling render things higher than your native resolution.
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
did anyone tried adding the -dx9single from the shortcut target line?

Here is mine. Like Motorbreath, I’m connecting via USB 2.0 except through a tethered iphone which has wifi (I can’t connect directly). Also I know my laptop is not supported, but the game plays great and I have no issues when I’m on regular wifi, just tethered via USB.
Unfortunately, most of my available game play time is playing via USB connection.
The problem here lies with tethering to your iphone this creates a large overhead which sometime causes the data to get lost or takes time to respond. Another thing phones usually heats up pretty quickly when tethered and sometimes they have a power-save settings that could limit your connection.
I would try to use leatrix latency fix but I can’t guarantee that could help. Try to connect to a wifi router instead or directly to a modem.

@Twoswords
Can you monitor you GPU Load and CPU load while playing? Have you checked also in window mode?
@PinkTaco
I have the same q6600 not overclocked and 460gtx no issue with the processor so far. Are you checking this while gw2 minimized? or Alt tab? Can you check and go to taskbar right click on gw2 and set affinity to only Core 0 and Core 1? See if this changes the frame rate. Also can you monitor you GPU Load? it should peak 80~100%.
Btw, WvW is very taxing expect to see <25fps if there’s a large fight other than that its usually 30+fps
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
Tried rolling back drivers to 295.73, I was able to get into the game in 1680×1050 with everything at max except shadows which I left at high. I still crashed when I walked through a portal, which then resulted in a crash-loop. Could do a fresh install but that’s a pretty extreme measure when I’m 90% sure the problem is either a driver or graphics engine bug. I’d like to see what Anet say first.
Also, haven’t been able to cause the game to crash at the point where it will produce a log so will have to forget about that for now.
Well yeah seems there’s a glitch somewhere on the drivers. Anyway where did you disabled your Anti-Aliasing? Was it ingame or thru Nvidia Control panel?
Wonder if you can tinker with nvidia’s Control Panel AA setting? Like setting it off or Override any application to 2x settings?
Some settings to tinker :
- Anti Aliasing (Override, 2x or Off)
- Theaded Optimization (Set to On / off)
- Maximum Pre-rendered frames (could be set either 1-3)
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
I have the same problem with graphics drivers crashing and im using Radeon. Happens as soon as i go into the game about 30 sec in. Keeps going black and recovering until it finally crashes back to the desktop saying guild wars 2 had a unrecoverable driver error.
It would be helpful if you can post your dxdiag or the diag from guildwars 2.
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
For now best is either ignore the chat or look for some helpful guilds if you have questions. If you’re outside Lion’s Arch pretty sure someone can answer your query.

For $1.7k I would recommend (Best bang for you buck)
- Sager Laptops – Well built laptop with great options
- Asus Laptops – Been using G53jw A-1 for 2 years now so far play everything med-high settings. (G55 series or G75 series will do)
- MSI Laptops – Almost on par with Asus.
You can order them at : (Sometimes they give out free ram upgrades or pricematch)
- www.xoticpc.com
- www.powernotebooks.com
- www.gentechpc.com
Btw I would like you to check those resellers I’ve mentioned they mostly can give you discounts and have been outstanding selling laptops vs Best Buy Laptop who can sometimes have kittened specs. Give them a heads up they’ll mostly reply immediately.

Have you guys tried updating your intel chipset drivers and Bios ? Either from HP site or the Motherboard site?
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
- Correlation is not causation; memory failing has little to do with GW2
- GW2 puts a far greater demand on the video card than D3; my 580 yawns at D3 but GW2 can peg it at 100% utilisation regularly
- Joeltron: it is difficult to provide technical info when we don’t know which video card you are running
- Driver 306.02 and the beta before it ran fine on my and my wife’s machines, GTX580 833/2066
- I use MSI Afterburner (doesn’t require MSI hardware) to change clocks and monitor FPS, GPU util
- Run memtest 86+ overnight, run VMT (video memory test) as well as full video diags; ensure hardware (heatsinks, fans) is thoroughly clean, especially the video card’s boxed-in heatsink
- Ensure case has plenty of airflow; test with cover(s) off with a desk/floor fan blowing in it to eliminate airflow issues
- Run chkdsk /r, sfc /scannow, reinstall DirectX, run Windows update, clean install video drivers to check for software issues
Second to this. I’ve seen D3 usage of only to 60% or below while GW2 used 100%.
@OP
I think posting your wife’s dxdiag should help
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
I’m currently out of option atm. Anyway I’m both using wired and wireless so far only booted once when the login server was down. Hopefully Anet pin points the network problem
Things might help :
- Check if your ports are being forward correctly or your router isn’t blocking them.
- Don’t run any other programs (Just to check and to lower cpu/gpu load Ex: Steam,IMs torrents,vents etc)
- You can try leatrix latency fix .
Things I’ve noticed during the week:
- Lag usually occurs in the 4pm-6pm onwards(GMT-8) other than that it’s smooth. Might be due to people logging in afterwork/school.
- If there’s a lot of “Macroers/Botters” in the Map I’ll experience lag and delays to my commands.

edit: @Alpha, I will try the earlier drivers when I get home from work. Have tried all graphics modes, windowed does not work at all for me – this actually causes a different crash, one which does generate a log. I’ll post this up also when I can.
Please do. Drivers I tried were 295.73, 296.10,304.xx and 306.20. I’ve skipped 301.xx causing some BSOD to others games I’ve played. Also doing clean driver installation (Custom Install → Perform Clean Installation) every driver updates.
What anti virus are you using btw? Can you do a system scan? I was wondering why window mode would bug you out as well. Can you close some running programs while playing ? Like steam? or Media Centers?
Another option would be perform a clean OS format install updates and videocard driver then run GW2 ( If you have a spare drive or spare partition).

Yeh, I’m using an USB wifi to connect, but I don’t have a cable now… anyway, is this going to be the only game I need a cable to play to?
Hi,
Your router or cable modems should have an extra one? As for the game it might help solve the issue
I’d need to have a cable all across my house…
And as I said, OK, if it’s the only way, but why everything works perfectly but not this game? If I use wifi is cause I don’t “want” to have my house with cables all around, not viable as a long time solution
Thanks anyway for your time.
May I ask what router are you using? Also are you getting full wifi signal ? If having a cable is a hassle then check for wifi signal interference.

Have tried 296.10 and everything newer. Currently on 306.02 as I’ve been slightly more stable with them. The game was working fine with 296.10 during pre-launch beta access.
295.73? Have you tried playing window mode then switching back to full screen (Alt+Enter)?

@sparky
Can you also do the network test Ashley gave?
Hi guys I’ve checked the network diag and hope this can help remedy or solve issues.
@Vilnix
The network diag shows that connection to ip 64.xx.xx.xx and 206.xx.xx.xx cannot be established. Kindly check your router,firewall or anti-virus.
@Motorbreath
Are you using a USB 2.0 wifi to connect to the internet? Can you test if you directly connect your pc to the router with a network cable?
@Lynx
You lost connection to 206.xx.xx.xx. Have you tried to portforward? or ask your Internet provider if you can access the IP 206.127.158.1
@Domslot
You have the same issue with lynx but the ip is 64.25.39.1.
From GW2 site :
In addition, Guild Wars 2 requires TCP ports 80, 443, 6112 and port 6600 be fully unrestricted and accessible, both inbound and outbound. For further information about opening ports or port forwarding, you can visit the following website: http://www.portforward.com Please note, this site is not affiliated with or supported by NCsoft or ArenaNet.
Hope this helps.

Well the framerates seem to peak much better when doing random quests around the worlds, but I think i still have the same issue in high pop fights in WvW. If it is in fact a processor issue, i guess im boned.

Hi,
I’ll answer here. Anyway Can you uninstall Norton perhaps? even if they’re disabled sometimes they still will block programs. Try Microsoft Essentials or Avast. Are you also using wireless connection?
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
Does your case have a side fans? Cheap solution would open side panel put a fan in it down side would be you need to clean your PC regularly from dust.
If you know how to change vga cooling you might want to look at these http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/vga.html
Also it might not be the video card per se it might be some hardware as well like your powersupply not feeding enough power to the videocard/motherboard. Did you bought your system bundled?
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
GW2 uses now 100% of your video card. I saw mine shoots up to 89C I lowered some of the settings or get a better cooling for it. Remember to limit your fps may shave off some temps as well.
Hope that helps

Hi,

Also try limiting your frame rate there’s an option ingame try to limit it to 60. Also try to disable SLI in the mean time. See if it helps with the stuttering.

Was thinking the onboard intel might be messing up the graphics or ram problems. Since the Q6600 doesn’t have onboard graphics with the cpu. Try experimenting with disabling the HD3000 in bios or reducing ram to 8gb perhaps?
