So, I managed to get almost a full set of ascended viper armor (missing one piece) and 1 weapon, I have one character slot left and decided to give conditions a shot, but I was wondering what is the best between Necro and Engineer in PvE.
I think DH Focus 5 + True Shot + Judge Intervention + Smite Condition is up there too.
No Rev nerf until the lame Necro and Scrappers get hit, I don’t care about precision strike or surge of the mists, but please, nerf that stupid condi bot and sustain bot!
One video added, Xtrem Necro gameplay:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?edit=vd&v=4qiCUW-mjEw
I am not laughing at necro gameplay in general, but I wanted to show the feeling I have in ranked. Hitting people and dying wihtout them to do anything.
The “getting hit to apply condition” seems realy unfair to me. That’s what I wanted to denounce.
That’s probably the worst thing I’ve ever seen in a videogame, because that basically is the opposite of the holy statement which is “Hit it till it dies”, now it’s “Hit it till you die”, I seriously hope Necro and these runes get’s a big nerf because this is the most braindead counterplay in years…
Reposting here to say that I finally managed to reach Diamond division, it turns out a lot of people in Ruby are terrible versus DH and AOEs in general, I had a much higher win rate with it than Revenant…
Mesmer is actually a fair game for DH, you can manage to kill them very fast if you do a good burst.
Probably Condi Mesmer, Reaper, Ele and 2 Scrappers or 1 Scrapper and a Revenant.
Apparently you weren’t good enough to carry your comrades.
I know the PVP system has its goods and bads but on a major lose streak it’s flawless. I’m Currently in Diamond and i’m on a 18 lose streak, On my next win i’m going to get 2 pips, i could lose these in the next 2 games. It is so unrewarding compared to if i was on a 18 win streak i would be Legendary. Clearly people on major lose streaks that they deserve more pips in account for how many games they have lost.
I don’t know if it’s an issue but, it seems that you have more chance to get a loss streak if you switch classes.
Good joke last matches, I managed to get out of my big loss streak… but not for long, I got stuck again in T3 Ruby, and last match was me (Rev) 1 Rev, 2 Thieves and 1 Ele, VS 2 Necros, 2 Scrappers, 1 Mesmer, basically the perfect setup to counter our team.
One Thief was also awful (the other was swedish so no way to communicate), he did not know what shadow refuge was (I am very serious), I knew that we would lose when I pressed B basically…
I did take a little break from the game and PVP already becomed a CC/Invul spam damage race ? Did actually people enjoy this ? Did actually Anet believe this is how PVP should be ? Did anyone know when will be next major PVP change will be ?
I thought it was obvious that Anet think that’s how PvP should be?
Otherwise they wouldnt have made HoT like it is and balanced all the classes like they are.
AOE condis and CC spam ruins team fights, Necro has way too much of it and the CDs are short, when you duel a Necro you can clearly see how bad most of them are because they all have the same rotation, aka fear → spam wells → get hit till health is around 20% → goes Reaper shroud → spam all skills → spam AA shroud → goes back to normal and heal → repeat step 1
They win most of the time against most classes because condis are broken right now, the only condi builds that feels fair when you fight them are Guardian, Warrior, Thief and Rev because they have no choice but to melee you…
Why would people invest over 1000g for something that only increases 2-3% in the stats? Juste because people don’t have it doesn’t mean they suck and shouldn’t raid, I cleared the 1st wing with ascended trinkets only and there was no timer issue at all, so please stop saying it’s required or anything even for a dumb Vale Guardian, maybe for tank or healer but certainly not for DPS and condis…
I don’t get why people are assuming they should be able to get the legendary backpack even if they don’t have the skill level to get to legendary or, worse, diamond. Again, not everyone gets the trophy in a competitive game mode.
This is a terrible competitive game and you guys know it, if it was that good then the views wouldn’t be below 200 in Twitch, nobody even cares about it in most gaming websites either.
@lopez.7369
Perhaps, but you’re missing something important. Competition is all well and good but this is not a black and white issue.
People in this thread seem to think that competition is an absolute. Things are competitive or they aren’t. Pure competition can and will alienate a large section of the player base. When that happens, competition will collapse.
The solution is to have some competition and not total competition. People willing to work deserve to be rewarded. They deserve it as much or more than people who find it easy to do well and streak to the top.
Evan Lesh and others have claimed that a grind based system reduces “prestige.” In other words Legendary rank is no good unless it is restricted to a very few.
The truth of it is that I don’t look up to Legendary players. I have no hope of getting there, so they form an elite in my eyes. When I see a player with the top two levels of wings, I think “elitist, pfah.” If I could get there through work it would be different.
I will often stop and whisper a player displaying a GWAMM to congratulate them. I respect that title. It means perhaps years of work, but I can get there. ( and I’m struggling toward it )
The backpack is an honor, it would be just as much an honor reflecting a long hard grind as it is reflecting smurfing, teaming and playing the most OP current builds.
The grind system of season 1 was competitive enough, without being over the top.
You can get the backpiece without touching Legendary Division, 3 Rubis and 1 Emerald are enough.
The meta is as bad as last season, that’s a butterfly effect: Bunkers last season were dominating, then players asked for nerfs. Soon after that bunkers were much weaker, especially Chronomancer which sucks now in the meta.
Unfortunately, one thing bunkers were countering well were conditions, and then Necro-pandemic happened after that because not only did they recieve buffs, but all builds who made necros a joke last season were gone with the removal of some amulets.
So in my oppinion, it’s players and Anet fault that PvP League Season 2 is a disaster, people in this game does not seem to know what balance is for the most part.
I seriously wonder how can you get out of a big losing streak and get a winning streak again, that’s what happened to me since last day, I got a big loss streak out of nowhere in Ruby which never happened before and now I just lose over and over, which not only is frustrating but also make me lose hope…
I checked my win rate, and it got below 50%, it was 56% before when I was in Tier4, now I’m back at Tier1…
No adjustements to Revenant should be made before toning down Necro, Scrapper and condis in general.
If you guys think you are so great, record 1 of your lost games and upload it to youtube. 100% people will find mistakes in your rotations, build or pretty much anything.
Noone of the MMR hell people claim to be ESL material. But if games get lost by several 100 points all the time it cannot be the fault of 1 person unless that person is sabotaging the matches. And no I wont record any matches. Only have kitten on my gaming computer which would be full in 10min of recording.
If you want to proof your point and you are in my pip range (+-15), on EU and have deep understanding of pvp we can play a few rounds and you can tell me what exactly I did wrong to cause the game get lost by 100s of points. Your argument is only valid if you the game was lost by 100 or less points imho. Then sure there is probably something you could have done better to get those few extra points for your teams. But I want to see how you turn a 0-300 points loss into a win on your own unless you are an ESL player ranked way below you should be (eg like Leeto playing on smurf accounts).
Are you back in Ruby div?
Getting ‘stuck’ in ruby is a very important topic regarding how best league should operate. We changed matchmaking to make the ladder more prestigious and so far it has done that. Divisions are aligning with skill level much better than season 1. The product of this change is that the bulk of players who hover around the middle of the mmr curve should stay in sapphire and ruby. Win rate will level out at 50% because there are plentiful players of similar mmr in the same division.
Should average players be able to climb out of the middle divisions by grinding? This removes prestige and can make matchmaking worse within a division, but always allows a sense of progression.
Should average players stay in the middle divisions because that’s where they belong at their skill level? This retains prestige and only improving skill will allow climbing, but rewards and progression stop at some point through the season.
Is there an incentive that could be added to league games for players who have reached their appropriate division and can no longer climb?
- You write “prestigious” I read “exclusive”. As in something meant to keep others out regardless of any actual merits, just to make themselves look better. You know, like some a golf club for rich people taking space and wasting water and air so a bunch of people that got everything handed on a silver platter can go and feel better than the rest of humanity.
- This system is not determining player skill. Only team skill. This means that you can’t recover if you are unlucky and randomly get into a bad team or a team with cheaters that lose on purpose against their friends too many times.
- I’m barely seeing anyone saying their win rates are anywhere near 50%. I’m only seeing people saying it’s all smooth sailing, and people saying they never win.
- No, average players should not be able to get to the top with grind. But they should be able to go higher if they stop being average. This does not happen. No matter how they improve their own gameplay, victory is still determined more by their teammates than their own skill.
- No. There is none. There should be the possibility of getting better and maybe climb some more. But we all have seen there is not a single strand of hope of that ever happening under the current system.
So much truth in this post, yet some people will still think that a bad player will always stay bad when they don’t understand that there’s always chance for improvement, that’s my case, I watched a lot of videos about high skilled PvP for each class, I trained a lot with Revenant this season (almost 200 matches), and then because of one loss, I kept losing pips, even though I had most of the case the highest score in my team.
I tried adjusting my class to my team composition and the other one, even switching between Rev-Ele-Guard, and I still can’t get out of that spiral of hate (yes because it draws frustration and hatred between players).
The most people who aim their CC and wells accurately wins, this is basically team fights in a nutshell.
Revenant might seem weak because the meta revolves around condi and CC spam which completely destroy them in team fights if nobody has a support class in your team. It’s nonetheless one of the best class for 1v1, you can manage well unless your opponent is a good thief, necro (their rotation is predictable though) or shatter mes, otherwise you have the advantage over your opponent.
The top players in this game are spoiled kids (yes because balance is centered around them and what they’re thinking), they’ll move on to other games as soon as E-Sports become a big failure.
Don’t get me wrong, some are great individuals who tries to help others with constructive posts featuring tips, but the others are awful, mainly the ones pushing themselves forward to be recognized or thinking that the world is in their hands.
Incredible stuff happened today, you wanna know? I got to T4 Ruby and then BAAM! I lost 10 times in a row, I’m not joking, I switched my class depending on team compositions, I tried my hardest to progress and I still lost! Now I’m back at T2, isn’t this great?
Explain me now how this is supposed to be a system that works, I never lost so many times in a row for almost 3 years now…
Well screw this game, each days I just lose more than I win because of BS like this:
-Team that gets overconfident in Temple which result in a loss because they didn’t get the boons
-Horrible gameplay with blowouts
-People stacking the stupid necros, ele and res bot druid, or reroll their class to counter my team because nobody there does it
-Dumb decisions, like I downed 2 guys in a point, one in my team shows up and what does he do? Auto attack…
-Premades
-People afk
I was Ruby T5 last week and I got down to T2, can you believe it? If I continue playing, I’ll get back to Saphire in that rate.
I hit diamond last night, my god was it a relief. I had played 57 games in T6 not even kidding
win loss win win loss loss win loss win loss loss win win loss loss. That was how the matches went all night. On top of that it was kitten -near the same people in each match, just jumbled around. I kid you not I had brow twitches afterwards. I might just sit at Diamond now. If all my calculations where done correctly… I should be able to get my backpack in season 4.
I have to hit Legendary if I wanna get backpack next Season unfortunately, I’ve been playing Revenant exclusively this season with over 160+ matches on it (51,7% winrate overall), so I wouldn’t say I’m bad but I can’t synergize well if my team does dumb stuff.
I also hate Foefire, when the other team is organized, they just sit at mid and watch over far and close which makes us lose every time…
(edited by Amineo.8951)
wait untill you get to diamond , i keep getting teamed with ruby players who duo with emerald and sapphire (who are clearly beginners)
This, I forgot to mention it, no comment…
And I do aswell, hell even Dark Souls PvP which is a backstab/one shot festival is way funnier than this, I’m so glad that great games are coming up this year, because I’m not pleased by how HoT turned this game into a complete mess where grinding is omnipresent.
Speaking of Ruby and pips, with 50% winrate, it’s obviously a dice roll until I get win streaks to get out thanks to MMR of course, which promotes tryharding at it’s best.
no big deal
i had a team of sapphire beat a team of rubythere are tons of bad ruby players
as the season progress, there will be many bad diamond players as well
the fact that u dont drop down division is already keeping bad players up there
By the time I think your bad players become average or good if they learn fast.
MMR is determined by ranked stats only or overall (ranked + unranked)?
Stuck in a win-lose-lose loop, funny enough, I’ll eventually get past it this week-end, because it happened to me in all divisions since the beggining…
I was wondering if Axe is a better choice than Shield considering all the unblockable skills in higher divisions and how predictable it is, Axe shadowstep and pull seems to be better for me.
I want the REAL basics! Something that is more basic than the basics!
I’m saying this because I apparently don’t know the basics of PvP at Ruby T4 with Revenant, and I should belong to Emerald.
Edit: I don’t know how to rotate too.

Stop playing theif problem solved
Okay, then explain this. Rumor has it, necro is one of the strongest classes in the game for pvp.
Doesn’t matter with the class people are playing, it’s basically RNG when you reach Ruby in SoloQ this season…
Im in emerald.
Then just play with people you know, you don’t have anything to prove, this system is a mess and requires players to have luck or grind each days instead of having fun and getting better.
SoloQ to Emerald last season with Thief, I didn’t have HoT until the last week of Season 1, but I was bored so I stopped.
Now I’m Ruby this season with Revenant, and I’m feeling like playing the lottery at that point…
Stop playing theif problem solved
Okay, then explain this. Rumor has it, necro is one of the strongest classes in the game for pvp.
Doesn’t matter with the class people are playing, it’s basically RNG when you reach Ruby in SoloQ this season…
And we know you solo’d how?
I say this with salt because I firmly believe “Elo Hell” exists. The last few matches I’m lucky if one person even say’s a single thing all match long. My last match was against 3 thieves, a Necro, and a DH. That should have been an easy win and yet, it’s a loss. Why, because only one person spoke, eventually. Another AFK’d from the start until called out and then just left. Matches are such a bag of crud that I can’t possibly believe someone hit Legend Solo Q’ing. Unless, because you are good, your early wins in Amber gave you an increased MMR. Where you were stacked with good players the entire time.
Or he’s just good? He has like, 3 accounts on diamond/legend now. He had some rough matches in the early tiers with really bad players, though, but Necro’s can carry like none other in this meta.
But he was matched against the same people this season and last season too, the same awful Ele and Necros…
I don’t know what it is, whether it’s the weekend or that there really is an MMR hell. Soloqueue just doesn’t seem viable anymore. Where I had a win streak from Amber to Ruby, I have seemingly hit a wall (not skill wise) where I keep getting pushed back to t2 ruby. No matter how many times I get to t5-t6 Ruby, I get a lose streak and I get pushed back down to t2. You can’t carry 4 other people when they aren’t prepared to pay attention to what they’re doing or play properly.
I’d have to agree with what Sirbeaumerdier.3740, that’s really how I feel about this current season. All in all stuff like this is really making me want to take another 4 month hiatus from the game, just like what happened with me in last season.
This is what happened to me today:
Don’t play on weekends. It was terrible last season and it’s terrible this season.
Strangely enough, I win more in week-ends than playing during the week at late afternoons…
If they ever start pro pvp league 2 with this messy pvp balacning, ima laugh. They tried so hard to push esport, it’s sad…
They are going to stack Necros and Eles I bet.
Yep rev dies faster than thief. That is why we see thiefes everywhere.
With all the condi burst going on at later divisions, yes it is, I can’t survive Mesmer and Necros focusing me.
Seriously, if you see a Rev, just tell your team mates to spam CC and condis on it, it will die faster than a Thief because there’s no way to get out of it even with the Shiro dodge. If you take out the Rev in a team fight, the rest is easy stuff.
Condition Revenant, unless you’re fighting coordinated team. Less reliant on others, provides Resistance for allies in teamfights which can carry hard against condition-heavy PUGs. Bullies Reapers (PA Resistance gain scales) and DHs in any teamfight, annihilates Power Revenants. Perfect counter to new Condition Mesmer, almost impossible to lose that 1v1. You shouldn’t 1v1 decent Reapers and be aware of Thieves, though.
What kind of build should I use for condition rev? weapons mace+axe and sword+shield, traits corruption, retribution and herald? What rune and amulet?
Edit: I’ve been playing power rev, i started playing it abit before the season 2 and I’ve gotten decently good with it, playing devastation, invocation and herald.
Check this one: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Herald_-_Condition_Mallyx
Class stacking should be removed, it kills variety and promotes brain dead gameplay (aka Necros + Eles combo), I can’t believe people still don’t agree with this just because it’s not the main issue for them.
With all the CC and condi spam this season, there’s no doubt that unless you have an Ele with you, Rev will be hard to play, it’s reliant on your team mates more than other professions.
Just lost with 3 necros in my team. kitten .
Let me guess, there were scrappers and eles with condi cleanse in the other team?
They sad soloq will be fine, you will never meet premates and triple ques etc. If your team is full random…..
Last six games i had, dia tier 7:
6 times full premate enemy team. 5 times my team was full random the other 1 time i had a duoq. 5 out of 6 games where lost. The games where close, but we WHY?!
You’re diamond tier 7, I’m soloQ and each time I have a decisive match, I’m against a premade because one (dumb) guy decided to group with his amber friend who’s terrible…
This meta is stupid, it’s all about spamming condi AOEs and CC to win.
I think Colin left because he already knew about the fate of this game, don’t get me wrong it will succeed, but not as the GW2 we all knew once, hell it won’t be a Guild Wars game anymore…
Also can we talk about E-Sports too? I know it’s not PvE but it kinda affect it since groups of “teenagers” seems to be the directors of the balance team by ordering nerfs and buffs to the classes they want only for PvP.
full premade group against pugs? I thought you had patched this out.
And there is an amber, I don’t know what the fudge is going on but it’s always my case when I’m one pip before progressing to the next tier.
