What about the map design itself? Running around in endless circles again and again and again. Somebody will make a mistake at some point and you will have to continue running around and around until frustration, boredom and tedium keep rising and more people start screwing up. Then it’s the “blame people” phase and then everyone leaves. I don’t know who can possibly find that fun.

Sounds like you are describing the blighting towers phase. That is a bit different. Has anyone actually tried just splitting into 4 groups? I haven’t seen any map do that but I wasn’t around when people were first figuring things out.

3,5/4 of the people are braindead 1 spammers, you can’t ask them to guard the points with a staff 1 spam right?

I really don’t get you guys…. The boss was actually one of the coolest ones I have seen in this game. I absolutely love his black hole attack. He was also easily defeatable. You just have to move. Pretty simplistic. You are already playing one of the easiest MMOs out there, please don’t ask ArenaNet to nerf primitively easy boss fight.

Your condescension is misplaced. The problem is that the game gives you no indicator whatsoever of what you should do to avoid attacks like this, so there’s very little iterative learning without reading about strategy on the forums. Some people get lucky and get it right early on, some people don’t and die over and over again trying to figure out if they need to try staying at range or engaging in melee, how much they should be trying to res their allies that were killed in one-hit vs how much they should try to tank and solo, etc.

Don’t forget that excessive, pointless moving is actually often not a good thing in a lot of MMOs and doesn’t really make a lot of intuitive sense.

Well, I don’t know. I was probably lucky that I was enjoying my new-found weapon – longbow on dragon hunter, so I automatically went max range, circling the boss, stepping right and left to avoid those little orbs he spawns and that black hole attack is definitely dodgeable. I don’t say I didn’t die, but actually had fun. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that you can’t melee a boss that spreads dozens of slow moving missiles in 360 degree circle around him. Every RPG is supposed to have challenging bosses like this one, and HoT is about learning from dying.

Except this one is bugged, instant kill attack and sometimes the animation is delayed so you can’t properly dodge it.

Silver is easy for most, but screw Gold though, when I see the timer of people who managed to do it, it was 3-4 seconds away most of the time and some required RNG to do it which is really stupid…

About 3/4 of my HoT experience was waiting till I could join a full map to do events or a raid group (no LFG section is unacceptable, whatever the reason is), 1/4 was the horrible grind for masteries (I hate adventures) and the timegate that just makes me wanna play something else which I will eventually do when Dark Souls 3 comes out…

Again, saying timers are a lazy boss mechanic is like saying driving to work is a lazy way to get there because its an easy solution to a simple problem.

Well, driving to work is a lazy way to get there, isn’kitten It’s just nobody cares, because getting to work is not supposed to be challenging.

As pointed out a million times before, if it wasn’t a dps race you could stack nomads classes and breeze through the bosses.

Again, if boss mechanics allow for that, those are some really bad mechanics.

My point was timers are an EASY WAY to accomplish and EASY GOAL and they do it JUST fine. The boss mechanics DONT ALLOW for that, you know why? BECAUSE THE TIMERS ARE A BOSS MECHANIC.

You have STILL not shown why timers are a bad mechanic. They are not a bad mechanic, they do their job just fine.

You can keep saying “timers are lazy”, “timers are lazy”, “there could be better mechanics” but you have yet to show how, and you keep making up bullkitten reasons why this is the case.

Inb4 they add a heal check with HP dropping during the fight instead of timer next raid or boon check.

I do not think this is the case where you could run 10 Nomads Hammer guardians. With Gorseval you would lose cause of the limited updrafts and Sabetha the stress of keeping the platform up would eventually get your group killed cause 15-20 mins of that would just take one small misstep to make a group fail. Really only Vg would be viable with the way it is now but if they did like I said the fight would most certainly be easy after the 4th spilt with the entire surface damaging you, I only said 4th but if you where going for a 5th 6th spilt the damage intensity of the platform would become more damaging.

So clearly it is lazy to think oh if there are no timers people would use the tankiest gear to get through it and as a developer should be able to come up with another solution than enrage timer.

actually if timer wasn’t there or much generous what would happen is a minimum number of nomad guardian/nomad anything that does damage passively+ some mix of tanky professions+ full cleric druid/ele and then the facerolling begins. Basically with enrage timer not meaning anything people will do some mechanics but most of them will resort to auto attacking until the boss is down.

It changes the fights from dealing much dps as possible to execute raid mechanics while using active defenses such as block, aegis, protection, dodge, heal, etc to prevent one from wiping to having any number of people perform raid mechanic while the majority sits and auto attacks hoping the boss dies and not resorting to use active defenses because the gear already covers all that.

Having enrage time and having people clear the raid with little to no passive defense is good. personally I wish gorseval’s slam attack would absorb protection and stability while one shotting those who didn’t dodge to emphasize the importance of dodging and endurance management.

Anet has stated they want rid of the max DPS only ideal. Problem is they are only enforcing it with raid timers. A pure DPS check achieves absolutely nothing. “oh look, I can DPS a wall down, I am so brilliant.” They need to put in a tactics requirement that actually needs people to move, dodge and think – timers do not achieve that.

Why not Champions that do proportionately massive damage to weakly armored toons rather than timers? Why not allow people to take in whatever armor they want and be able to achieve?

Obviously you and some others in this thread are being very selfish. You want it all your way. Being in an elite minority obviously means a lot to you. Go get a life.

I’m not saying make it easy, what I am saying is change the ethos. This is the first boss of the first wing of the first raid, it should be difficult, but putting a timer on everything just turns it into a DPS race.

As pointed out a million times before, if it wasn’t a dps race you could stack nomads classes and breeze through the bosses.

Also, VG and sabetha are NOT dps checks, you can clear them EASILY with >1-2 mins left on the timer.

It’s easy to die on the last phase for both because you can’t see stuff (and sometimes though very rare, the flame wall bugs out and is invisible).

I agree with this, VG is the only boss that needs a timer, Gorseval is a DPS check it won’t change a single thing without this and Sabetha already has too much stuff to care about, people only dies because they have to DPS fast and they just go with rotations that barely keep them alive.

As an Elementalist I never run Water in any fights because I would lose a lot of time just by pressing F2 on my keyboard, it shouldn’t be like this in my oppinion, you don’t want the trinity in this game but with Raids you are just pushing it and ignore the main thing about GW2 by asking people to Tank/DPS/Heal specifically…

I actually saw someone advertising – Selling The Eternal – 800gold. Man I am all for enterprise but i just thought you greedy kitten. Especially for somethign that is ultiamtly so kittening meaningless.

Well you’re splitting it up amongst 9 people, each of those people will need the best gear (lots of them making new Ascended sets for new HoT specs) and its a way to make money that is legit fun (people take 800g from selling on the TP each day from flipping or selling lucky drops so its not too bad imo).

All assuming the buyer is happy at the end and receives good customer service.

Videogames should never be assimilated to real life, that makes it so much more boring and frustrating.

I’m just pointing this out since you decided to put it in capitals. That was the Spear of Justice pulling him into Ring of Warding the second time. The first time was a 5/2 for stealth and was just short of pulling it off. Then the guard snared and pulled him back into it.

I’m hoping DH get’s knocked down a couple of pegs in today’s balance patch. It really needs it.

And I hope it makes it more valuable for Raids.

PUGs migrated from Dungeons to Raids. Can’t be helped. AP has been replaced with Insights and Dungeon Master substituted with The Eternal.

Raids are gonna be even more dead than dungeons, because it excludes much more players and the incentive for doing these isn’t worth enough, I get better loot by farming Fractal Lvl40 over and over again than trying to raid which can take hours because of group forming…

The issue with raids are people, not the content itself, learning VG and Gorseval is easy, Sabetha is the only hard stuff because of the mechanics that doesn’t synergize well with the game (10 people, you can’t see stuff, and you have to pay attention to the boss and the bombs on you).

Also the fact that people are being rude by asking you insights or other stuff, a terrible check btw because I could have over 15+ insights by doing VG and Gorseval only, and ascended armor is too expensive, weapons/trinkets are manageable with collections and fractals but armor is lame and useless, that should be a bonus, not mandatory.

Well…let’s look at the checklist and see where they fit in:

  • Heavy might stacking? Nope, Heralds and PS war wins out here.
  • Profession-unique damage boost? Nope, still nothing here yet.
  • Ability to play healer? Well, not really and a druid could do it while bringing damage boosts at the same time.
  • High personal dps compared to other professions? Nope, not really.
  • Efficient tank build? Yea, but other classes can tank as well while also bringing big dps or helpful utility.

So, I guess until there’s a need for aegis and reflects, we probably won’t see Guards in the raid meta. Well, unless there’s something else in the patch notes that they haven’t discussed yet. =/

I wish there was a trait for guardians that makes Aegis more powerful and block attacks that would be unblockable otherwise, that alone would change absolutely everything.

Oh god… Look at that timer before you make such calls. They only had 25sec left while being pretty experienced by now. My first kill was near the 2min mark and it was a terribad kill.

They still killed it, and it was a 10 Guardians team, so people should stop being toxic when they have 2 Chronos, 4 Burnzerkers, 2 Heralds, 1 Druid or something, they can accept a Guardian or Thief in their party (and Thief can even tank VG).

I’m not a casual player, but I really wish people were more forgiven for what they want, like me who wants to raid but can’t because other people think I don’t have the experience just by looking at my name or a number or pieces of equipment etc…

By no means it should be this way, yet it is and there are more examples of that like masteries or agony resistance, still I think the gravity of an issue is only growing because of players, not only a design flaw…

My first complaint about end game since HoT is how everything is gated, it’s either masteries or ascended stuff or player exclusions mainly in Raids and the worst is that there’s no LFG section for these so finding a group can take 2 hours at most (what’s funny is they can still kick you after that).

Luckily I bought HoT at a cheap price and joined a big Guild, but I think the expansion brought much more frustration to the players than before, and Fractals were one thing I ran daily, but with the absurd farming required I just gave up on it…

Well, ele and mes seem to be going down for the count. Necro actually getting a buff to their boon corruption which is anathema to a guardian.

Thief is going up to, the venom share is good and Basilisk is unblockable which means Aegis is even more useless in PvP, also, S/P might become a thing…

Hi, I’ve been playing since June 2013, I had a guild one year ago but it died, so I’m looking for a new one to do Raids/Fractals/Dungeons, missions and some PvP, but not too competitive, I wanna have fun which is something I’m starting to miss in this game…

I have several professions:
-A Guardian with full zerk ascended (except weapons) stuff, it’s also my main
-An Ele with zerk ascended trinkets and exotic stuff, my “secondary” character
-A Revenant I’m currently building
-A Thief I have been leveling by doing only PvP
-A Necro which I will make later on

I’m looking forward to anybody, thanks in advance.

Raids are not that awesome for me because of these reasons:

-People want you to grind ascended stuff which is really expensive now (over 1000g for light armors, I mean is this for real?)
-People want you to level up several classes you may not enjoy (I hate engi and mes, I play guard but it’s not what people want and how the raid is designed for us) and don’t have time for…
-People want you to have experience, but how do I even get that if I can’t join or form any group?
-Did I mention an amount of toxic players from dungeons are raiders?

I’m not touching that (unless I find a guild) until the balance patch, OP should do the same.

I doubt the balance patch will help with anything, tbh. You’d have better chance on hoping for the next raid wing.

Anyway,
- I’ve downed VG weekly with my Herald on exotic zerker armor (psst, don’t tell anyone that).
- Well yeah, I understand. Once I tried a condi engi for raid, but then I realized I don’t really enjoy using him so I never go with engi again. Recently I tried tempest since they’re in high demand for all boss, turns out I enjoyed playing her more than my main. So yeah, have you tried all 9 professions?
- You just need to at least be knowledge-able of the mechanics. One time I’ve seen one guy creating his raid squad, then turns out he doesn’t know that you need some condi members for VG. Sigh.
- What toxic players? ~.~ The most toxic players are those who just want to be carried IMO. Once I met a necromancer in a raid, after a couple of tries, it turns out we’re having trouble on the condi boss. The group observed that the necro used minionmancer build so we asked him (nicely) to change, guess what he do. He just left. Sigh.

Toxic players for me are the one who don’t accept any mistakes and want perfection, that’s something that made me quit the game a while ago when I was running dungeons with pugs after my Guild died…

I don’t really care that much if they nerf traps as long as they buff virtues (wings of resolve sucks and is hard to land when ennemies spam CC) and Hammer (Hammer 4 needs to hit more targets and 5 should do damage, land when moving and have a lower CD).

I crashed in the event yesterday but I was lucky because I could get inside the map again, that’s still a problem because it didn’t happen to me since the Battle for Lion’s Arch update I think, almost 2 years ago.

DH is a lot of fun and extremely strong. I played Revenant, Reaper and DH during HOT for about 400h together now and in the end all 3 are a lot of fun to play. Damagewise I’d say DH is the strongest be cause of all the sick damage modifiers you have. The traps are extremely strong. Just try it out: go outside, look for a formidable enemy, lay 5 traps, pull use symbol of wrath, pull them in with GS #5 and follow up with #2. Most enemies will die within a blink – even stronger enemies in HOT.

It’s not pure DPS though, that’s burst damage, and like Mesmer it’s not that good against bosses but only trash mobs.

Overall, if you just want to roll an alt to get a spot in a raid, a burnzerker is currently your best bet. Chronos and druids are great, but if that role’s already covered, you won’t have much chance on getting in the group. Burnzerkers are great, even if you have a bunch in your group.

Having 2 warriors in a group to cover banners for both squads is ideal, but even after you cover this, additional burnzerkers can bring different utility skills that will boost their personal dps or give more options for handling breakbars.

Now…that being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the nerf hammer strikes burnzerkers on the next balance patch. If it does, they may still be a great choice, but considering the cost of building a full set of vipers/sinister gear, it would suck if you went through all the trouble of gearing a condi set for a warrior only to see it get nerfed too hard and pushed to the back of the line in terms of meta builds.

I expect the nerf hammer to hit Chronos more than Burnzerkers.

I’m sure they’ll make an adjustment so that distortion doesn’t allow groups to bypass mechanics, like the green circles. However, I don’t expect anything else to really nerf them in PvE.

Alacrity and Quickness I think, these are too easy to apply constantly.

Having 2 warriors in a group to cover banners for both squads is ideal, but even after you cover this, additional burnzerkers can bring different utility skills that will boost their personal dps or give more options for handling breakbars.

Now…that being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the nerf hammer strikes burnzerkers on the next balance patch. If it does, they may still be a great choice, but considering the cost of building a full set of vipers/sinister gear, it would suck if you went through all the trouble of gearing a condi set for a warrior only to see it get nerfed too hard and pushed to the back of the line in terms of meta builds.

I expect the nerf hammer to hit Chronos more than Burnzerkers.

Tower of Nightmare was an instance (but it wasn’t interesting), Twilight Arbor P3 is still there, Molten Facility and Aetherblades are Fractals, Karkas invasion wasn’t interesting, Lion’s Arch attack could be a fractal with the 3 knights and the boss would be the Hologram on the plane, and the Marionette could be a fractal boss.

So there’s pretty much only a portion of the Tower of Nightmare, Marionette fight and Lion’s Arch Attack that would need to be reworked (or adjusted) which shouldn’t be a huge work considering they did that kind of stuff 2 years ago for the Fractured update…

Final boss of final Raid is Colin himself.

With the following attacks:
Soon: Continual slow debuff.
When it´s ready: Every action you want to make is interrupted except for one.
We are so hyped! : Other devs appear, Soon and When it´s ready are applied to anyone in the raid and on the map sitting next to it.
Every WvW player is also a PvE player: Can only be used after we are so hyped was triggered. A sidetreck adventure is triggered where you have to take a keep on the desert borderland.
ESports: You have to win an inpromtu game of PvP to advance to the next stage with the equipment you´re wearing.

And then at 1% hp Colin cast Constructive Feedback which heals him to 100%, giving him all boons with 25 stacks + Alacrity, and then he goes to the menu, call the police and you get infraction for challenging the master.

The need to do that comes form the crappy megaserver not putting ppl into none full maps be for making more

so i suppose you can say the game is killing the game ?

Hmm yeah, but let’s be honest, even if they get rid of it, people will do what they did 2 years ago when Tequatl got revamped, which means logging in a different server like Desolation for the same reasons.
