Thief is fine for a average CofP1 farming, as long as:
-it’s a good player
-it’s properly specced and geared for DPS
-your team isn’t a bunch of douch… well, you got it.

But i’m another fan of 1 mes, 3 war and then another X class setup, especially when the difference is so neligible.

Not sure if you’re really that dense or trolling.

my bad guys, you’re right. it makes a lot of sense to balance classes around the game mode that the overwhelming majority of players completely ignore. once tpvp is balanced everything else will fall perfectly in order because tpvp is the holy grail of guild wars 2. this is evidenced by the fact that no one plays it

Aside any personal pov, there’s a little thing called “Skill splits”, who are there right for that reason.

Now, the fact that Anet seems to have forgot how GW1 demostrated that those are vital, and already spent quite some months to nerf ppl in pve due to pvp, is another topic…

Making rating more accurate or responsive? It’s totally needed and welcome change.

But, if 3 servers have a even force, play on same level and fight for victory until last day everytime and everytime there’s a different winner, then you should not ruin that matchup because “Ppl is bored of fighting same 2 servers”.

It’s balanced? Leave as it is, kitten

Again, i hope new matchmaking isn’t going to favor a “fighting always new servers – just for the sake of changing opponents” over the “let’s find out a sweet spot where a tier is balanced and then preserve it, even if 3 servers will have to fight each other for 6 months – but 6 months of good playing”.

-Reduce overall warrior damage: yes if we want to buff it defensively, pve players will whine a lot but i think this is necessary for balance. also pve will benefit because you won’t see anymore cof farming parties and more classes can fill the dps role.

I agree with the whole post, but just want to say: ignore effects of spvp/tpvp balance on PvE…. but split properly skills and traits, like devs should have learned to do since GW1 – and often fail to do (ask mesmers, 8 months of nerfs in pve only for pvp whining – its getting old).

Btw, i didn’t say you SHOULD have rushed in lord room.

Just that with 3 times the defender numbers, you COULD have taken out 90% of the acs simply by walking on them with minimal losses too (3 on wall, walk up the stairs and wipe them. 3 were in lord room, simple usual cleaning around the circle and voilà), instead of seeing the JS zerg stopping and gathering around a single AC with so few defenders as opposition…unless your guys play in non-tanky gear, but that’s another topic.

I didn’t meant (actually, i fail to see how that post was so flaming) to upset you, eh.

Pro tip: Take some risks sometimes, it make wvw much more enjoyable.
(protip n°2: taking some risk =/= lerooy suicide)

I’m not that expert of Necro.
But i must say, there’s one thing that stroke me very soon when leveling my Nec.

Traits are plain bad – or – really bad displaced.

That’s one of the biggest and harder to tackle problem of the class, imo.

(ah, and under the “Dagger” thing in the OP: it’s a meele slash, make it hitting AoE cleave like everyone else, kitten getting in meele for a light class must be much more rewarding, due to the risk – Mes has cool skills like boon removal and BFrenzy, Ele D/D spec..well, we all know how good is it. Dagger nec is plain unrewarding compared to those 2.)

and so many arrow carts from the two enemy servers. God really hope Anet change them soon. It is insane to see 100 man blob build 5+ ac in paper tower for 2 mins just to defend it.

Best was seeing JS breaching their BL Bay with like 2-3 times our defenders, get in inner and THERE build AC.

When they could have just run in the middle bashing their head on keyboard and still win with simple numbers. : D

Apart this few episodes, lots of fun, thank you all present at reset!

i agree with the OP. i was thinking of just a simply ranking system. if you get 1st you move up a tier, 2nd stays in that tier, and 3rd moves down a tier. this way you always have a new match up.

To be honest, i don’t mind facing always same 2 server…but only if the matches are even, won last day, and stable.

Which is why ratings are used in first place – the problem is:
-they haven’t a great formula
-they don’t account too many things, manly community related ones (aka: coverage)

The problem is not having new matchups.
The problem is pairing wrong/uneven servers, and stale tiers when ratings do not allow a over- losing/winning server to ramp up/down (see EU T1, or NA T8 – iirc).

In the ideal situation where every tier is made by 3 servers with even power/coverage and everyone of the 3 has a good chance to win, there’s no reason to push for servers moving across tiers for a single victory/defeat.

Simply put, WvW got ignored for first 6 months or so of GW2 lifespan.

Now we’re starting to see something, but it’s usually too late, too little, or simply plain wrong for the game.

Culling fix was great, but since there i felt every wvw update disappointing (some more, some less ofc).

A decent Gw1 Mesmer……THAT was an annoying profession to deal with.

Now Mesmer is too much Damage and not enough CC (in pvp) imo.

Is it working as intented that Traps can be placed while in stealth, without breaking stealth?

And what about placing a trap and then blinking/shadowstepping away, which results in you finishing the trap from a distance?

What about both of those together?
Remote stealth trap placement underneath a zerg?

What about the massive advantage Thieves have in placing traps and using them as an effective tool in WvW compared to other professions because they can place traps in an enemy zerg?

I will say we want there to be play with the traps, but placing the traps while in stealth has very little counter to it, so we will be evaluating whether we would like to change this implementation. Thanks to everyone for you feedback and concerns.

This design was set so players wouldn’t put traps (especially the supply trap) on supply holds. Image if your zerg/small party didn’t have supply and went to restock at supply hold that had a few supply remove traps. As soon as the team has supply BOOM “Trapified” your supply is gone.

Which is exactly what is happening in the video.

I just can’t stop laughing at this.

-“Hey guys, traps are blablabla cause we don’t want those to be so bad, so don’t worry!”

It’s not only guilds.

Almost the 80% of ppl i know playing wvw stopped because they couldn’t bear anymore VS.

Dropping to T2 has drawn all that pool of players back in – and more might come.

Just for reporting.

Added a new vendor: “Traps and Tricks Outfitter.”
Traps have been added as a new purchasable consumable utility item. Two unique variants are available.

When placed, traps last for one hour.
Players may only have one of a given trap type deployed at a time.
Traps will disappear when a player leaves the map.
Traps are sold by the vendor for 15 badges and 525 karma; they will stack to 250 and are account-bound.
It takes a 4-second channel to place at feet.
Placing a trap uses very short-range ground targeting to assist in orientation.
Placed traps have a 600×90 rectangular trigger area; only enemies can trigger them.
Once triggered, traps affect up to 20 enemies within a range of 1200.
Traps cost 10 supply to place.

Supply Removal Trap

Removes 5 supply from enemies affected by the trap.

Stealth Disruptor Trap

Removes stealth from enemies and reveals them for 30 seconds, preventing stealth.

Glad to hear.

The ability to outrange catas and melting rams and golems was the biggest problem of the ACs, imo. This is a step in the right direction.

On the other hand, i agree with aneu. Dmg is still a bit over the top and could use a small toning down but, if you want to keep it this way – please makes ACs more counterable.

Atm they are not affected by LoS. They don’t have much siege placement restrictions, which means that tons of them can hit same small space, making is a off limits area. And, on top of that, they’re extra cheap.

If the damage is not going to be reduced (and quite frankly the range was the biggest issue) then maybe you should re-look at the siege limit per 1000 range, although a range reduction will reduce the amount of AC’s able to be placed on a gate the minimum of 12 is still do-able with the pre-buffed range.

Mesmer feels... boring?... after Elementalist

I have both profs and play them both equally.

It’s matter of a base philosophy in how the profession is built imo.

Elementalists can do lots of different things at once. You use traits to improve areas of their build (like condition cleansing or boon spreading with Water/Arcana builds) but you never get rid of the bleeding dmg of earth attunement or direct fire attunment dmg.

So, you have a jack-of-all-trades base, where traits improves a certain area.

Mesmers are the opposite: they can do a lot of stuff equally – sometimes better – than a ele, but they rely totally on their traits. The base mesmer skillset is weak: with proper traits it’s a bomb. This means that you can do one thing at time.

So, you have a “weak” base, but strong traits, which means you can do lots of differet stuff, and very well, but not at once with the same build.

Overall, i’ve seen much worse balance in other MMOs.

On the other hand:
-wouldn’t say “Balance is really good”.
-some balance decisions done across months which did more harm than good should be revised, at least partly.
-much more splits should be done, for past patches too (for example, revert all those nerfs Mesmers got in PvE due to pvp… but in PvE only. Phant CDs, Shattered Strenght, etc.).
-some builds/traits/skills still need a look.
-still too many useless traits.
(^these 2 = need more buffing instead of nerfing. need more build diversity.)
-still to many bugs.

If you’re looking for support, i’m going to suggest a Staff ele.

Water fields, spamming regen like an healbot, tons of CC and combos.

Might take a while to get used to, compared to War or Guardian is a bit harder to learn, but it does wonders with proper play/team/build.

If they ever add a main hand pistol it should be a condition weapon or at least have a decent length channeled auto attack to use with sharper images.

I’d say instead: rework scepter to make it a full condition/dot weapon, then give us ranged Power MH (pistol).

Isn’t the elephant in the room being missed here in that Basilisk Venom stuns through defiant?

It’s awesome in PvE because, couplede with VA and coordinating attack rotation of teammates, you can stunlock bosses w/o care of defiant stacks. It’s a niche build, no doubt, but in CoE P1, where you spend most of the time with 5 ppl hugging the boss, VA is kitten amazing.
And turning Alpha or Bjarl in stone is always so funny.

spvp and WvW wise is still a nice skill, but it’s less interesting due to opponents stunbreaking out of it imo.

Why Do Most GW2 Players Hate Hard Content?

Wouldn’t you love to play extremely hard elite 12 player dungeon which would require 2-3+ hours to complete , which would require you to be skilled, a good player, and require immense teamplay, strategies and preparation?

2-3 hrs makes istances tedious, not harder.
More players are not a good way to increase difficulty, due to how it’s designed GW2 combat. On the other hand, might be a cool idea to make 10 man istances where you have to split team in tow 5-man groups and progress in 2 parallel routes through the istance while coordinating each other to advance.

Anyway, in short: longer and with more players do not mean more difficult.
On the other hand, challenging content should be added, that’s sure.

Nerf blurred frenzy?

Going to say this again, the nerfs never stop.

This month Blurred Frenzy is ‘the’ ‘OP’ ability just because people have nothing else to complain about?

Stop and I mean STOP crying for nerfs, cry for bufs instead to make a difference!

That mesmer is killing you because of Blurred Frenzy? What would you need in your class to make you be on par with that?

But, please, by all means, avoid creative thinking. Carry on destroying skills one by one until your favourite skill is hit next. And then you’ll be a miserable player amongst miserable players….

Don’t like that? Maybe use constructive criticism.

Don’t destroy, create and improve! Is that too much to ask?

Buffing isn’t always a good way to balance stuff, for the simple reason, that if you just keep on buffing, you will soon face a powercreep which isn’t fun.
Also buffing can potentionally harm balance much more than it benefits. Especially with the really slow update cycle. If you buff something too much, you can end up in a situation were one class got something which becomes so strong, that this class basically becomes the only viable choice.
Nerfing is a valid, and much better strategy. Nobody is asking for a Smiters Boon kind of nerf (in case you don’t know what this means: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Smiter%27s_Boon_%28PvP%29), but to bring it down to reasonable levels.

On the other hand you can’t creat more build diversity only trough nerfs. Unless you’re bringing all options on par with the weakest one…but at that point ppl will already have stopped playing the class.

Nerf what is OP. But do not touch what it’s ok/good/balanced. BF is good, nobody can argue, but it’s not OP.
Buff other things. Buff other builds. Create natural counters.
Tweak BF to be “Blocking” and thus proc “on block” traits. Add more “on block” proccing to the game. Do not start with “hey, let’s halve dmg or double the CD and that’s done”. Still assuming that it deserves a nerf for real and not due to the usual WotM (whine of the month).

ps: KR got SmitersBooned instead of getting moved to 20/30 pts or rework of dmg/heal of the 2 procs causing crying. This is a dangerous policy to me – and by far a “whack a mole” way of dealing with it (KR got actually removed from the game. not nerfed).

I pretty much understand where this new wave of rage against mesmers is coming.

Pretty much this.

Every month sPvPers needs a couple of skills/builds to complain about, regardless if it’s broken or not. (which is a different topic. it’s the attitude i’m talking about).

Last month was D/D Ele Bunker (RtL+MForm+CWater nerfs). (and, partly, Confusion Mes in Wvw – but it’s offtopic here).
This month seems that the target of the PvP crowd bile will be BFrenzy and HGH (engi unique build atm).

As back some months ago were PistolWhip or 100nades or whatever.

No surprise.

Today sfr was bulkitten. We broke bay and what vz did hide inside lord room and inner walls with like 30 ac inside,probably couldn’t drop more because of siege limit… no way you go through this right now. then same kitten in Hills… You have 50+ zerg and dont fight open field why? we were equal numbers,no you go under ac protection and walls. You even build ac in Arah hope before we fight..

Yeah, this evening on SFR was really..dunno if right word is ridicolous or pathetic.

60 man blob coming into a tower (cliffside) we were capping trough the broken gate, stop before the bridge and drops 3 AC and 2 balli instead of even think to get crush the outnumbered zerg.
70 man blob running away from our zerg (50 ppl tops) from the SE sentry (from garri) until Hills, and bunkered in with at very least 10x AC firing no stop in front of gate.
And the AC built on the tower in arah’s supply camp when they’ve seen us coming… well….

Yeah. So glad T2 is coming this Friday.

Just saying, this is happening every couple of months since launch.

Player cry at something of the mes (regardless if actually OP, or only good/balanced) -> nerfed across the whole game due to spvp whiners.

I play my Ele almost only in wvw.

Still staff, still support/CC/combo fielder role, still same build/traits/equip.
Still rolling hard.

Sure, Mist form change is annoying, but it just makes you plan a lil more your moves – use it to run in safe spot for casting heal, instead of stand still and heal while invuln.
Cleansing Water ICD is a bit a bummer, cause limits a bit the condition removal capabilities (esp the aoe/allies one), but the effectiveness of the staff ele as heal/condition cleanser is still unmatched.

D/D has got some bad hits, but i don’t play much that spec.

Vision of the mists double hilt

Its missing again? Hope this is a bug because its a really unique feature of the weapon.

Actually, it’s intended to have a single hilt (aka: starter GS skin). But with the etheral/purple glowing look.

The double hilt was a visual bug and as such was fixed few weeks ago.

To me they should bring back the old GW1 tiered titles system, where you had a long term goal (like R15 of HA, achieved by 10 or so hardcore pvper in the whole game) but making titles off the minor tiers, with a small number to help distinguish the rank.

So, you could have Yakslappers as very long term final title, but making avaible to expose the lower tiers like (supposing final title is rank 10)

-Yak frequenter (3)
-Yak blablabla (4)
.
.
-Yakslapper (10)

So you have a title to show off while you’re working on the final goal. Worked great on GW1, where maxing out a Pvp title was nearly impossible (as said, 10 ish players maxed out HA one in years of game), like actual WvW achievements, but you could show off how far you were on the long term title achieving.

It’s a gimmick, it’s just one more reason not for us to play the actual game with our characters.

While i agree on the feeling, it’s all down to how they’re treated.

If they’re like another siege, place build site and trow supply at it, then it’s just kitten and potentially gamebreaking.

If they’re placed as structure upgrades, limited in placement and number, built by workers and with some counters for enemy, than it might turn in another interesting tactical layer, plus encouraging upgrading stuff.

We’ll see.

On topic:
Traps sounds interesting BUT not in the shape they’ve hinting (like another blueprint → build siege), it’s open to waaaaay too much manipulation.
Also, stealing supplies? After making sieges such a huge hassle? Now you have to biuld 2 trebs or multiple catas to take down a single tower if defenders are competent enough, which means tons of supplies… and now you make those harder to get in use? Meh.

Imo, traps could work more like a structure upgrade – you order it, who order it can place the trap in a 1500 – 2500 (numbers are just as example) range of the said structure, workers builds it. This way they’re much easier to balance (you can put limits in numbers and placement) and you’re giving extra reasons to upgrade your structures, with some more defences that are more useful that a oil/cannon getting ganked in 10 sec as soon as a zerg shows up.

(all assuming that traps are atm treated as siege. which might not be.)

We can however officially let you know we are moving the jumping puzzle for EB into it’s own map, as this has been a much requested feature for our beloved siege fairing community.

Well, this is cool.

Encounter which needs immediate attention

Strictly talking about bosses, the top priority should be Hotw imo.

On all the three paths, bosses have too much hp and too few skills/attacks, making encounters tedious, loooong and overall, boring.

Either lower their defence, cut their hp, or give them new attacks.
Or all the 3 things toghether. (at least the last 2).

I’m sure there are some other encounters needing attention, but Hotw should be first one reworked, cause the main reason ppl (as far as i can see) don’t run it so much is boring bosses. (and underwater sections, but that’s not the main issue of the dg for me.)
