We have reached the point where we are trying to complain about grinding in MMORPGs.
Next, let’s play a Halo game and complain about too much shooting.
we just never had a cutscene explicitly establishing this.
Actually, there is one path of Orr storyline (The Vigil path to the Gates of Arah) that directly confirms this! It relates to the Gear Warband’s provision of the tanks you use to breach the gates of Arah; It is stated the High Legions themselves are sending them, and reserving armaments for the pact.
Queen Jennah’s assistance on the other hand -is- purely up in the air. However given the first starting NPC of Human Storyline becomes a Vigil Tactician and is there to provide assistance, and you even see a myriad of human priests providing battlefield and medical support, it is indeed easy to assume they have been purposedly sent there to lend a hand. (Priestess Amelia in particular being the priest that healed the Hero of Shaemoor back on his/her feet, and therefore assumedly a renown priest from that point on. Fame by proxy, if you will.)
An addendum to the issue of the Arcane Council’s care; It is established through the Snaff Savant’s storyline that the Council is perfectly aware of how much of a threat the dragons are, has been since always, and purposedly avoid providing assistance in order to exploit the new findings of Inquest and krewes alike for Rata Sum’s personal benefit. The reason the one summoned in particular through Zojja is who it is, is likely because he’s senile; and therefore easily manipulated, unlike the rest of the Council.
Extra addendum; Most of the Council spends most of their time trying to kill each other, sensible to assume they are more worried about that than anything else. Not that we didn’t know this, but.
People play ranger to play a ranged class. Axes are useless unless in PvP, and shortbows are useless unless doing PvE.
That leaves little choice in the matter when it comes to wanting to play the aforementioned old archetype of a ranger, until you realize the irony of Warriors being better rangers than rangers.
The reason why all choose bears has been explained above; There is no balance for pet survability when it comes to AOE-happy content. Other pet classes can re-summon their minions at will, but ranger pets come in heavy cooldowns when downed. Given half your DPS comes from your pet, there is little choice once more unless you know your pet will survive, somehow, the ordeal.

That’s about as much as I have gathered, specially the last way of looking at it. It does make me wonder why does Anet keep waking new dragons when they haven’t catered to taking care of the already existant ones, however. Not to say I don’t enjoy the idea of jungles and deadly plants more than a giant blanket of ice with absolutelynothing in it except the occassional icebrood corruption, but it still makes me wonder the exact reason why. If there is any at all other than them liking original characters more than the already existant lore ones more, which is fine too, I suppose.
Eh, the cinematic style of the game has been there since day 1, to be strictly fair. Not to say I support it, but expecting it to change radically is probably unwise.
Well, OP. That’s like saying engineers shouldn’t have turrets (Immobilize + regen + burning autotarget spamming in PvP plus an added crate), Guardians shouldn’t have access to select buffs because their traits already provide them and necromancers shouldn’t be allowed to bring minions/should have decreased death shroud pools when minions are summoned.
All classes have their little things that can be exploited in the right fashion. Most of the things you listed can, as well, be outdone.
Mini Queen Jennahs, Mini Queen Jennahs as far as the eye can see.
I just really want to know why other dragons stop their advances at the convenient times of “we want to shift focus elsewhere”, it’s something that has been bugging me. Why does it take so long for dragons to do anything? Nevermind the fact that if the dragons themselves just swooped down and started exploding things they would get things done quicker; Just why randomly stop, is something I’d like them to address.
Because of different scales of time.
The Elder Dragons are seemingly immortal creatures, so what they would consider a reasonable amount of time would differ to what we would consider it. For creatures that can stay active for centuries to who knows how long at a time, a couple of decades of just leisurely expanding the corruption isn’t much time at all. Compare that to the mortal races, who only live around close to century (though a bit longer for Norn), a couple of decades is a good portion of our lives.
Of course I keep that in mind, but he was already planning to attack Lion’s Arch, and Hoelbrak several times for that matter. It still feels like he randomly turned around, went “Maybe later, I want a light snack.”, and just… yeah.

Jormag right now feels like he’s been “Yep. Almost there. Comin’ to getcha. … Any time now. Mmmmmhmmmmm. Riiiiiight there. Look at me arriving…. not yet. But soon! Oh yes.” for no particular reason. The kodan are scattered, norn are constantly panicking and joining his side and nobody is pushing back the icebrood’s corruption, sooooo…?
We all know the sole point for Logan’s presence is to have a big, offscreen interracial romance plot with Rytlock.
Time to fly by to drop more random lore facts.
Norn are resistant to cold (and very subjective to heat) because their bodies produce high amounts of temperature. While it is not addressed whenether it is a blood or simply a more in-depth biological factor, it makes the average norn be… a big, walking, boiling potato, enough to shield them away completely from what the average races of Tyria would freeze from.
Sylvari state contact with norn skin has even managed to provide them a scathing sensation when they are overheating from battle, making the contrast that much different.
Reading Ask-Marshall-Trahearne Tumblr page and all the memes associated with him, really made me love Trahearne all that much more.
For any of you who didn’t know, Trahearne is a grumpy alcoholic who makes wonderful, drunken love with Riannoc.
How could you not like this guy!?
What, no awkward fish entanglement with Sayeh? Wasted opportunities, wasted setup.
It’s been two years and we’ve so far gotten… nodes. And a single use skillpoint.
Sit tight. It’s a long ride.
“Oh. My. God. Mordremoth just made me lose two hours of hairdresser and fifty gold invest on highlights, and I was already SO. stressed with my studies, and like, OU-EM-GEE. I just can’t even.” – The hairstyle.
Well. It was to be expected. I mean, let’s be blunt; Rox and Braham have been completely and utterly pointless up to this point other than to dispense random “Yeah we support you. Go boss. Hurrah. Etc.” quotes. This was essentially Anet’s way of going “OH BY THE WAY. We didn’t screw up by spending a whole expansion on these two! Look at how relevant and kept in mind they are!!!111”
The result, given Rox and Braham still remain pointless, is some quirky splattered writting, with some Rytlock plot patched on top of it. Pair that up with Kasmeer suddenly being more of a main character than everyone else in Tyria, Marjory’s “brb, mourning” and Taimi apparently solving all of Tyria’s issues on her own despite being a child and you have this update wrapped and giving you a bad aftertaste so when the new bits come out, you simply -have- to come back to see the development of all of this oddity.
It’s called the Scarlet Syndrome by now, I’d guess.
Granted things like “Are nightmare sylvari and dreamer sylvari related or not” have been perfectly addressed by the lore and even in-game campaigns, hell there is a whole dungeon about it.
Sometimes it’s not NCSoft. Sometimes it’s people just not caring to learn before spouting.
Remember that time around a year ago where they said they were already making the new engi turrets, changes to backpacks, had all these “ideas in mind they would quickly do their best to apply”, and what they meant in the end was “Your turrets now have a unique shield effect when you use this trait.”?
Good times.
Actually, Norn do very well in cold climates. They generate LOTS of body heat, so they can basically walk about the town in a pair of pants and not be affected.
Also I was talking about the “The swimsuits cover more skin” part :P.
Lots of Norn armors also have some kind of fur involved to keep the warmth. Metal parts are somewhat thermoconductive, which the inquest armor has quite a bit of + some rather thin cloth.
With the swimsuit i was referring to the booby part though.
Actually, no. They wear furs purposedly and solely to honor the spirits. This is stated by several NPCs, including the female norn as close as right outside the asura gate in Hoelbrak; Norn do not feel the Shiverpeaks cold, and find no necessity for the warmth pelts or fur may provide. It is merely a spiritual factor, and it is safe to assume if this wasn’t a PG 13 game there would be random norn walking in their, eh, natural selves around.
Actual armor + color pattern choice + face choice: +8
Scarlet’s Eyes: -1
But it’s a warrior, why lava gloves!: -1
Dat chest piece: +17/10
I don’t know which norn to post, and I am not a fan of multiposts… so have all my norn instead.
Why -1 for the Scarlet eyes? They look cool on his toon. MY Necro has those eyes so +1 on the Scarlet eyes.
Naaaah, Scarlet eyes make everything just weird…
Well, if we want to point out showing off a bit too much, how about the flame legion pants on heavy male norn.
That’s a trail of happiness that goes waaaaay down… Not to say I don’t love it, I do, and god do I hope it stays there.
But ya know. Happens.
Once, my norn warrior bashed a rabbit with a giant hammer and, as it unintendedly finished a daily achievement, he proclaimed to the winds “I AM THE MASTER OF LIFE.”
Aside from all the kittenslapping and “fact” hurling going on and whatnot, I am not really understanding what most people’s grasp is regarding the whole “Why purchase an MMO if you don’t want to do massive zerg rush/open world content” thing.
A basic, comprehensive list of reasons one may want to join an MMORPG community without having any interest in the “massive” content;
-Playing with a select group of friends; Despite people’s arguments where “there are games specially catered for this”, the fact is, there are only a handful, and only last so long.
-Playing a particular setting, storyline or theme; This one is simple. If you can find me a singleplayer version of Guild Wars 2 with the possibility of my first point made, I will gladly remove both of these points, mind you.
-Enjoying the feeling of a community, not the feeling of a cluster; Enjoying a world that evolves and feels alive around you does not equate to enjoying having to -rely- on people’s interests and availbility to successfully complete activities.
-Enjoying the challenge of coordinated gameplay; … Which most zerg content, the kind tended to be linked towards Living World updates, does not satisfy at all. Other content such as Tequatl, The Wurm, Pvp Tournaments, etc, do however, and therefore a clash of interests where players are dissillussioned when the updates tend to not be this kind, but instead button spamming and stacking, surfaces.
There are many other minor examples, generally closely related to particular aspects of the game’s development, or simply enjoying the idea of playing a game that will meet constant updates and changes.
While I understand whining over not getting your prefered kind of content regardless of which content it is, specially complaining over other people’s tastes, is ludicrous, well. There are many reasons by which people may enjoy to join an MMO community without wanting to rely on other people, or be subjected to zerg rushing. Their complaints, just as those that enjoy both of those things (For whichever reason.), are perfectly valid.
… I don’t think he was that bad of a character
Please, we all know hes the JarJar Binks of Guild Wars 2. Although Tybalt comes in a close second for me. Say it, don’t spray it jeesh.
Trahearne as a character is actually pretty interesting. Players just use him as a scapegoat for everything they didn’t like about the personal story, just like they used Scarlet as a scapegoat for everything they didn’t like about the Living Story season 1.
Quoted for truth. I was even one of the primary subjects to fall into this Scarlet-wise, and I admit it.
The material requirements get more amusing by the update. Come on, Anet. 50 gold of materials for a decoration. Naw…
You could try being less impatient and by next week it will cost 5g tops.
I am. Woulda been a more fun ride to get it more along the lines of the missions and its minigame fetch quests overall than through more random crafting sprees, was mostly my point. Until then I am not minding being able to toss clay pots at people for half their day’s earnings, but.
Guess we are entering another case of people whining too much, and then the people that dislike whining people whining about people whining by making the polar opposite of their opinions as a counter measure.
I am not surprised Anet is going hayware with their updates. I think they may be listening to their community a bit -too much- at this point, rather than make their own project. And so we all ride the quality rollercoaster!
Not much of a rating since I can’t post more* norn, will leave that to the next person, but.
Excelsior.
Or rather.
Hawt.
Moving on.
*Edit. Was not meant to be a “most”.

(For the record, only the events in Iron Marches are new. The rest are pre-existing events that met no changes other than be labeled a “next step in storyline”. Just in case.)
I enjoy open-world stuff when it doesn’t deal with my Personal Story, Living World or otherwise. The way the last two were done was just fine. Achievements and fun times with the rest, storyline with my friends.
Didn’t we learn from Scarlet that zergs overall dumb down the crowd and spoil the morale? No? Guess we need a reminder.
The leader of the organization we have spent 70% of the game purposedly training to kill dragons is going to show up to the meeting of how to kill the dragon we are after.
Who woulda thought.
The quantity and variety IS there. They don’t happen to fit your tastes, but there is a far wider choice market than in any other instance. Cyan really has the right of it.
Cool. A new backpiece! Thanks for the screenies. =)
You mean “another” back piece? That would require 250 ectos + 15 bolts of damask etc. oh lord.
“We don’t want our game to be a race for gear, or a pooling of wasted resources purely for crafting’s sake.”
Good ol’ Anet days, but at least some of the back pieces look pretty cool. I would get Chaos of Lyssa for my human mesmer if, you know. I could fork 250+ gold for a decoration.
There isn’t really anything to spend gold on in this game besides decoration so…
How dare you imply I don’t spend all of my hard earned gold on unnecessary amounts of character slots and constantly correcting/updating the looks of my characters with makeover kits.
Cool. A new backpiece! Thanks for the screenies. =)

I’m just happy they implemented the wardrobe system so I could put the engie’s backpack on my toons such as my warrior.
I still remember when it was first revealed that transmuting the starter engie pack skin into a blue or white back piece would make it account bound. Everyone gasped their souls out and for a month there were engie packs as far as the eye could see.
I was no less.
You seem to have missed the whole point, where I stated nothing of what you are currently being baffled about would be possible given it would severely alter the gameplay for new players, and that it is standard for Guild Wars 2 to be a bigg snowball of continuity mishappens, as per the ongoing conversation.
- Kasmir continues to throw out time warps on a 10 second cooldown*
Whyever did that make me laugh as much as it did, I do not know, but it did.
Now I had best be able to make giant bone minions and summon bridges made of bones out of walls, myself, or I am going to call foul on this whole “These nobodies do what you will never do; Be class-related useful!”
But seriously, what’s the difference – 33% swiftness or 33% swiftness on broomstick.
Role playing? Immersion? Couldn’t care any less, we already have rainbow shooting bows, bunny ears, pink underboob armor, etc.
This kite breaks my immersion! Why can’t we go back to those glorious days of Super Saiyan charr with sunglasses wearing multicolored outfits while riding on floating brooms as quaggans beat themselves to death over a Mad King dinner table?!
Ahhh, I know this isn’t the flow of the discussion, but still… Someone out there must have thought about it, and it was too amusing not to think back on it.
Kittens had best give me fabulous priest of lyssa mesmer a giant, glittering pink butterfly to ride on! snap snap snap
On a serious note, doesn’t seem like anything anyone should be freaking out about.
And now I am picturing Mordremoth holding a sign reading “The Eternal Alchemy said if I get one million likes I will attack Divinity’s Reach!!!!!!!!!!”
None of the story missions are made any easier, or more interesting by having group members around, in fact it is the opposite.
While I agree with the general context and arguments of your post, just wanted to highlight that most Personal Storyline beyond and including The Battle for Claw Island does in fact become much more entertaining and smooth by having numerous party members involved. Generally a duo or trio will have a smoother, more balanced ride than a solo attempt, even if it’s perfectly do-able solo. Have done the Personal Storyline up to Victory or Death seven times, and up to A Light Before Darkness ten times! Just in case it may come of as me just throwing facts at random.
I understand why they’re doing it once, but I very sincerely wish that unlocking achievements on one character did so for all (if they’ve changed this since I’ve been on last, cool).
Like, I’ve already experienced the story once and I’m happy about that – but if I want to do achievements, maybe I want to give it a shot on a different profession without having to do another “story run” – which to me devalues the experience since I’m rushing through it and no longer really “getting into it” like I did the first time – it makes me dislike it and leaves me with a bad taste to remember it by.
This. All pointed out that the content would be open for all of my characters, and the fact it is not heavily frustrated me.
The only thing u can do at endgame, is getting ascended armor and legendary weapons, u would think those should look better then the more “average” gear, but they dont.
Ascended weapons/armors are just plain simple designs, and almost everybody puts a skin over it. Some legendary weapons can be called “legendary” by the looks, but others are a joke (ex. Shortbow/Longbow).
The only thing you can do at endgame is exactly the same as every other single MMO out there. Dungeons, High difficulty dungeons (Fractals), PvP and World Vs World. This does not apply only to guild wars 2.
And what you are saying is, indeed, a matter of personal taste. Many people adore how legendaries and ascended gear looks. I don’t, particularily; I make my endgame in making alts, leveling them where I feel relevant and acquiring the gear and looks I want for them.
/personal tastes
Oh dear these threads. People have really never played the average MMO, both lately or beforehand. I swear you folk really have no idea how much variety you have, and how much of an amusing complaint Guild Wars 2 “lacking” in skins of all things is.
There is a myriad of things you can complain about, but this is the least one you could possibly bring up as an issue. Seriously. I am not even exaggerating. You folk need to educate yourselves in how the average MMORPG works in these terms so you can realize how much of a boon Guild Wars 2 is when it comes to customization. It’ll be good for -you-, not anyone else.
Now we know the true reason for Charr Heavy Ascended helmet’s appearance… Rytlock, New King of Ascalon 4evah.
On the plus side, they nerfed PvE so much that I can pretty much solo all the lower tier content using just the junk that drops.
Added benefit, level 80s can steamroll lower content like never before! [/sarcasm]
That’s not a good thing, when you want to help out a character that’s lower than you without completely dominating the content.Bring the old trait scaling back, so the encounters are actually ..kind of.. a little more difficult. Not that they were before, but we like to pretend sometimes.
Well, if we went back to the BETA standards of difficulty, it was in fact very challenging and very scaling-ey!
But we all know Anet is not going to so much as think about going back to actual challenge.
I consider GW2 to have acquired a perfect amount of balance in its designs and customization choices. You can make very simple designs, just as much as you can make a spike galore.
All it requires is proper amount of patience, creativity and ideas. While flashy, or otherwise showoffey, I consider my humans to have attained a good enough middleground. (And it could be far more practical, realistic and normal looking if I cared for them to actually look that way. Caudecus’ Manor armor and human cultural armor sets fit the criteria, even the full Phalanx armor does. But well. I like me unique.)
Now if you want unnecessary amount of spikes, refer to my norn and his nether region cleavage. Purposedly made to abuse the developer’s need for spiky bits into things since I use the cook’s outfit over it anyways.
Cool. A new backpiece! Thanks for the screenies. =)

(And by “destroyed the RP community”, we mean people can’t idle forever in Divinity’s Reach complaining about why nobody is in the local bars as often anymore.)
