I’m sure many of the CD players consider TC the actual challenge and if we both go after them … it’s on like donkey kong. But TC may not like that because they need another convincing win to move to T2.
Well, I know FA will continue fighting TC no matter what. Hopefully CD does the same. But looking at their comments in the other match thread, they feel like they already lost.

^That has been my experience as well. Thought it was a bit silly to see them post that a lot on the forums, but didn’t bother responding. Ironically, the only times they’ve wiped us is when they have more numbers. When the numbers are even, they don’t seem that different than say Darkhaven. I really like Maguuma since they did some interesting stuff with lower numbers when we fought them.
I really wonder if WvW will survive until February. Now until then is about the same amount of time as the start of one week matches to now. They really need to give up on the idea that SPvP is going to be an e-sport like LoL and put focus on the competitive feature that has far more people playing. We’ve had to play on the same two maps since the start. At the very least, they should have made the three BL aesthetically different. Make the red server’s BL have a volcano theme and the green server’s BL have a jungle theme or something. They need to do that and add more maps.
@Arcadio: In one of your quotes, you mentioned TC’s victory is assured due to population. Though I agree that their population gives them an edge, their influence on 2nd place is only so large because YB and FA give them that power. I truly wonder how they’d fare if both servers pressed them on all fronts.
It will definitely be a more interesting match. That said, it won’t happen since for a variety of reasons, the least of which is that our servers don’t like each other. After many weeks of fighting TC, I think the Yaks have given up any hope of beating them. They’re mostly on defense at this point and fighting for second. Calling it cowardice or strategic thinking depends on whether you are an FA or YB player, lol.
If FA is still in this tier next week, maybe FA and CD will both target TC. I think TC has the population to compete in a real 2v1 though.
It won’t be a very interesting match, lol. The biggest blowout since the orbs were removed was last week when SF beat HoD and ET. SF is currently getting beaten bad by BP. At this point, Kaineng will beat HoD and ET. Those two servers easily have the smallest WvW populations. It was still fun playing against ET many weeks back though. They did their best despite the odds. At one point, they accomplished their goal of owning their entire BL.
TC has already gone up against BG and SoR. They are not equal competition, lol. TC being full has more to do with PvE than WvW.
Regardless, FA doesn’t have much of a choice. It’s either TC+CD or Mag+EB. The ratings dictate what the matches are and TC will be staying in the tier and CD will be moving into it. http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA

Don’t know what you’re talking about. TC’s victory here is assured because of population. IoJ would win here because of population. FA/YB would win T4 because of population. The only possible matchup for my server where population is less of an issue is FA/YB/CD which isn’t happening.
And between fighting TC+CD or Mag+EB, I already said earlier that I’d rather fight the former which is the more challenging of the two.
Apparently Yak’s Bend is now slated to move down for the next match instead of Fort Aspenwood. That should be interesting, since it’s been a long time since we’ve played them and they’ve moved up in life since then.
DB was always ready* for T4. They’ve always done well against Maguuma. The only reason DB got beaten bad by Ehmry was the lack of a third server in the fight.
*Ready to fight for second place. T4 is T3’s punching bag. There are four T3 servers so one of them has to wait their turn. Neither Maguuma nor Ehmry stand a chance against the T3 servers.

I don’t know about you guys on HoD, but for me on ET, I’ve been craving for a good match up against you guys. I really want to see our “dead” servers go at after months of falling down to a good tier. Looking forward to a time where we see how you guys bring what you learnt from being outnumbered to even ground
FAs are doing well in EB, while TC swept Yakbl’s upgrades, battle for second place should still be intense till reset, or I would hope.
Is the pp right? The mos site updated the scores for this match 56 minutes ago and has FA as the one with the higher pp. It’s possible FA collapsed at this time of day of course.
I know in NewYork it’s common to refer to any Hispanic/Latino as “Spanish” rather than being too specific about where anyone might actually be from. Ironically, when refering to an actual spaniard, I’ve used the term “Spainish” to differentiate. :P

As for the topic, I think Anet forgot or don’t care. GW1 was focused on humans so they made each Human kingdom a stereotype of real Human cultures. Now that GW2 is focused on races, Humans as a whole are now one stereotype. Honestly, the writing in the GW series is pretty bad.
Yeah, I’m not going to do things I don’t find to be fun. I might want a legendary one day so I’m keeping in mind what I need that way I won’t get rid of them, but otherwise I’m not actively pursuing it.

GODS is having a lot of fun in TC BL right now. Someone even came into our Raidcall to rage, lol. We’re outnumbered by TC easily, but that’s why it’s exciting.
As an outsider looking in, I can’t see how YB or FA stand a chance of placing first in this tier against a server constantly measured “full.”
A victory on one BL should suffice. Let the more populated move up to another tier with equal or more dedicated wvw players. I can’t imagine this is fun for them.
The harsh reality is that WvW will never be truly balanced. TC goes up and IoJ goes down to beat up the T3 servers. CD goes up and FA goes down to beat up T4 servers. TC doesn’t stand much of a chance in T2 so they’ll get beaten up and get sent back down to beat up T3 servers again. CD does do well in T3, but FA will come back up replacing either CD or YB and those servers will beat up T4 servers again. The cycle will continue unless there are mass server transfers to help balance populations, but people are against server transfers so Anet will one day make it so balancing WvW populations will no longer be possible.
Anet can help make WvW more interesting by implementing what they thought would happen, incentive for the two losing servers to gang up on the winning server.
The numbers you gave are pretty decent. 300 members doesn’t mean 300 people show up every day or at the same time and 100 online doesn’t mean they all want to do WvW that day. But getting 20 (20% of 100) people out to WvW during events means the guild can make some difference. I see a lot of WvW guilds on my server getting around 20 people out every time they are on so whatever guild you joined is doing as expected really.
I pray for Fort Aspenwood not getting bashed or called “mindless zergs” on this forum next week, IF they do move down to tier 4
DH players called us that the last time we were in T4. Mag players didn’t in our last match. I really respect Mag as a server since they fought back against us trying out new tactics instead of making excuses on the forums. We haven’t fought Ehmry yet.
If FA does come down for a temporary visit in this tier, we will outnumber our opponents. We probably have a stronger NA crew than CD does and since our last match with Mag, we’ve picked up a great off peak crew as well. CD may still be stronger than us in that area, but we have no idea until we actually get placed in the same match.
I recommend Maguuma out of the list. They were fun to play against even though they didn’t have the numbers to compete. You could also consider coming to Fort Aspenwood as we are in a tough tier and could use more people in our battle against Tarnished Coast.
Saw this during a previous match in EB. Someone built as much siege as possible in our keep even though we had SMC. We couldn’t build defensive siege and we couldn’t assault YB’s keep where they had trebs up hitting SMC. The siege in our keep would never vanish since the keep had a waypoint guaranteeing the timer would always refresh.
I don’t think it’s a good idea anymore. The rating system has been good about creating even matches. One problem is that playing the same servers over and over again can get stale and boring. Another problem is that changes in rating are only based on performance against two other servers. A server may get trapped in a tier when it can be competitive in another one.
I posted this in the topic about how our match has gone one for three weeks, but I’ll post it here as well.

I thought of that, but then the matches would still be even, which is the whole point, right? If they were going to award in-game medals or something to the top 3 servers after X months, I can see where legitimate competitive ratings would come into play. However, I think this system is built to just create even match-ups, and if the match-ups remain even, then it persists.
Any deviations/hiccups from even match-ups will result in shifts, but it’s really just looking to make even match-ups. The tiers really don’t matter, because they speak more to coverage/population than most anything else.
Again, I just don’t know what people want. Does the Tier number really matter to folks?

The real world problem is that some servers are not given the opportunity to play against other servers that they may be competitive against because the rating system won’t bring them to the desired tier. While I personally don’t believe it to be the case, some TC players are wondering if they could do as well against BG and SoR as IoJ is doing. The rating system deprives them of the opportunity.

The problem is that TC has shown similar match scores as a T2 winner for the 4 weeks. Yet watching the delta modifier a winning server can lose ranking(based on relative performance) and a losing server can gain ranking(based on relative performance). TC and LOJ have been close before and even when a small difference between them was there. The next match up made the gap larger.
The problem with the Glick system is that the performance is not being compared to other Tiers but to the same Tier servers. So it wouldn’t matter if TC became strong enough to take on T2 and LOJ lost a few guilds that they should move T3(I’m not saying that this is what has or should happened but only as an example). The problem is that LOJ is performing well enough in the current Tier.
How is this a problem. If T3 and T2 became all of equal talented servers(hypothetical) the state of the matches will never change. Because performance is only related by the server and not by the Tier.
It’s broken. TC should have had a shot in T2 even if they were to get stomped. Relative performance isn’t working as a model to manage rankings.
Yeah, this is definitely a problem. There is a current example in the SF/BP match. SF has been ranked above BP for many weeks. Now that BP is getting a shot at the tier above them thanks to ET dropping down, BP is beating SF easily. If it wasn’t for ET dropping on BP’s tier, BP would have continued to be held back by AR and GoM. Theoretically, players from the top three servers could all transfer down to the bottom three servers and as long as the scores remain the same, the now worst servers would remain at the top and the now best servers would remain at the bottom.
I can’t think of a mathematical solution to the problem and no system is going to be perfect. One way to solve the problem is to have Anet manually switch server rankings but people would throw all kinds of fits over it if they don’t agree.
My impression from EB play is that if Dragonbrand gained a significant force during US prime, they would be a major threat to move up to T4. I have no idea how well they’d do there, but I think a sizable shift in players to their server would push them up a tier. A big enough shift to any of the servers would have a chance to move anyone up that level, but I think DB is the biggest threat to move because of their population timing.
My server, Fort Aspenwood, has spent a lot of time in T4 (we are T3 now) and even fought DB in T4 once. In a way, they are already a T4 server. They’ve done well against Maguuma in all of the fights they had together. In the fight that had FA in it, DB managed a surprise second place finish against Maguuma. They are also doing well against DH which itself has done okay in T4. The problem with T4 is that it gets dominated by T3 servers. And there happens to be four T3 servers leaving one of them to hang out in T4. To do well in T4, you essentially have to become a T3 server. Otherwise, you are better off in this tier where the matches are closer. That said, DB is the best candidate for building a competitive server for T4. They have a good off peak team. More NA guilds are what they need.
According to the mos site, it looks like there will be a lot of movement in the rankings. CD and YB might switch which will affect T3 and T4. AR is moving to T6 which will make for a good match against SF and BP. HoD will move down to T7 which will still have ET in it. GoM will be a big winner there in terms of score. Will be a boring match though.
I’m excited to see CD if they really do get to come up again. We (FA) haven’t fought against them in a 7-day match yet. TC/YB/CD already happened and TC/FA/YB is on its third round. FA/YB/CD would be interesting but it is unlikely TC will collapse and fall to T4. Edit: Another possibility is for one of the top six servers to collapse so TC goes up and that server makes its way down, but that also isn’t likely.
There’s a possibility CD and YB will switch in the next match. The mos site has that prediction but the numbers for the T3 match is six hours old and YB has caught up to FA since then. But I think the switch could still happen if CD pulls ahead in this match. As an FA player, I want to fight CD since we haven’t fought in a 7-day match yet. It will change things up a bit in both tiers even if it only lasts a week and they switch back after.
Servers are matched based on ratings. Top three servers play each other, next three play each other and so on. This is an attempt to have close matches. Since the rankings for the top three servers haven’t changed, you get the same match.
The pug situation is only a part of a bigger reason we decided to leave. It certainly isn’t the main one, lol. killer had a decent summary of our reasons on page 9 of this thread.
Derv has been pretty good about teaching pugs actually. And one of the benefits of having open recruitment was that many pugs decided to join the guild and became better players.
I’d like to thank the many TC players who have welcomed us and the TC/FA players who understand our situation. It will be sad to leave FA since there were some people who were supportive and mature. Unfortunately, as seen even in this thread, there are many who spend more time trolling/hating. Even some current members are doing it, but those won’t be the people who will make up the reformed guild.
Remember guys, it’s a video game. Have fun. If you feel the need to rage on the forums, it is time for reevaluation.
I think it’s more accurate to say we are transferring away from FA than transferring to another server. TC was picked because it has what FA lacks. killer touched on some key points, but I think Derv can explain it best if he wants to.
Anyone on TC worrying about GODS transferring should understand that we are going to restructure our guild. It will no longer be a gigantic guild that anyone can join. It will instead focus on having fewer more loyal members. We are not causing any queues seeing as how only 10 people transferred so far, lol. We are not bringing hundreds of people.
Also, GODS are not transferring because TC is winning. Any GODS members saying that was not there for the long discussion we had.
FA is a bigger threat to TC for 1st place and is a bigger threat to Yaks for 2nd place. It’s unlikely that Yaks will place above TC so at this point both are doing what makes the most sense. Both TC and Yaks players probably dislike FA more than each other given past matches, but I think the first thing I described is a bigger factor. There’s really nothing we can do about this outside of recruiting. CD isn’t winning their match by enough to come up and replace Yaks. In fact, Yaks are increasing the rating gap between them and CD.
