There are no top tier servers at the bottom and no bottom tier servers at the top. The worst we have is some servers in the middle that should drop a tier or two (which would result in some deserving servers going up a tier). Scattering servers all over the place won’t achieve the same results in a shorter time. Not resetting the ratings was the right decision.

Anet is way too indecisive. Regardless of the merits of a reset or not, at least stick by your decisions!

Sticking by your decisions is not a good idea when the decisions aren’t good. I would rather people change their minds a lot so long as they are moving in the right direction.

Anet are trying to solve a problem that doesn’t really exist. Without resetting the ratings, all servers will be where they should be within a month. Even if we assume for the sake of argument that the reset + new math will put servers where they should be in the same number of weeks, then we still face the problem of having unbalanced matches in every tier until then.

Unfortunately, Anet are probably patting themselves on the back over this. If two people like it and eight people hate it, all Anet will think is, “People liked our decision!”

A common suggestion back then was to switch the outmanned buff with the orb bonus. That may have been preferable over removing the orbs completely. I don’t think the orbs would be as sought after though.

The orbs need to return somehow without making the match unbalanced. The BL maps were designed around them. In EB, you want the castle. In BL, you want the orb. Without the orbs, the BL maps aren’t as interesting.

Yeah, I would not want PvE-only people to come into WvW unless they actually want to start doing WvW.

Well, what 9 servers are stronger than Mag? That’s the only way to get pushed into T4.

Mag’s a T3 server now. The bandwagoners didn’t jump ship on Sunday as planned. You guys are just going to have to deal with it or spend the gems to go to a server that actually belongs in T4.

I wished I stayed. I already had been playing for hours when we took Hills so I thought I was done for the day. Should have known there would be some fun uses for those golems after Hills.

If everyone is at 1500 rating, whoever has the biggest wins will go to T1.
Problem is, by default the biggest wins will be against WvW corpses like SBI and IoJ.

So going by the projections of SBI and IoJ’s opponents for next week, it will be a free pass to T1 for Yaks Bend and Ehmry Bay.

Yeah, servers will be all over the place after the first ranked match. I don’t see how this will fix itself faster than not resetting the ratings in the first place. It took 9 weeks for HoD to go from T1 to T7 where they currently are. SBI will already be in T4 next week. This is a situation that will sort itself out. Maybe manually adjust the ratings for the T8 servers, but even without that, IoJ will drop on them and send SF up. ET did the same to DR.

The GODS members that were there were pretty mad about not being able to take it last night. So we contributed 4 of the 6 golems.

It was pretty risky to get our golems from spawn to hills north gate. I’m surprised no one from DB saw it. Then again, I imagine it was really unexpected.

Next week, you will already have the top 9 servers on the NA side occupying the top 3 tiers. A few dead servers will be in the mid tiers, but will be where they belong in a month.

By resetting the ratings, servers in balanced matches will end up in mid tiers while servers that win blowouts will be in top tiers. Looking at the projected matches for next week, Yak’s Bend and Ehmry Bay will be winning their matches by blowouts. Sorrow’s Furnace may as well. They will be sent to the top tiers where they obviously don’t belong. It will take longer to fix this than to allow the rating system to fix it naturally.

Every server has a rating. WvW uses a modified version of the Glicko 2 system that is also used in chess. After each match, your server’s rating is recalculated based on your performance against your recent opponents. Doing well against a higher rated opponent increases your rating for example.

All servers in the same region (NA or EU) are ranked from highest rating to lowest rating. The top three servers are tier 1, next three are tier 2 and so on until tier 8 in NA and tier 9 in EU.

Your server will face the other two servers in the same tier. The highest of the three is the green server, next is the blue server, last is the red server.

^Good site to use since mos can be inaccurate especially when it hasn’t updated to the numbers Anet posts on this forum. It already has those numbers filled in so all you have to input is the score.

I put 1 for CD and YB since the formula doesn’t like a score of 0 and an endless series of 9s for Kaineng. The most their rating can get to is 1843.358.

Playing around with the T3 scores, FA can beat that rating by managing to get 39% of the score without allowing Mag to get more than 37% of the score. FA has 36.6% of the score according to the last score update on mos. Getting from 36.6% to 39% is not that easy. Anyone that understands percentages should know each 1% increase is more difficult to obtain than the last. That said, it is also a big assumption that Kaineng would get more than 99% of the score lol. They got a little less than 89% in their previous match.

FA going to T2 is the more likely scenario as long as FA remains ahead of Mag and DB and increases the gap.

Well, they had to keep it free as long as guesting was not up. They stated so themselves. Many players have used free transfers to play with friends and it would be unfair to force players to stay when they may have thought it was a temporary visit.

I’m having fun in this match-up so far despite all the QQ. A strong 3rd server does really make the match-up more even as seen in the scores. I have a feeling this one’ll be a nail biter by week’s end if all three sides keep up what they’re doing.

CD was a pretty strong third server. Wednesday morning they were within 10k of DB. It was only in the last couple of days when that small gap widened to 40k. That said, CD did hold DB down by playing for 2nd. Old Mag is playing for 3rd and the bandwagoners will give up if they feel Mag won’t win. DB might perform better compared to last week.

What’s interesting is that DB took the lead last week in the same period of time they have this week. Last week, FA took the lead at 7pm EST on Saturday and was never challenged for the lead since that time. Let’s see if history repeats or if there will be a different result.

For PvE, you can guest on any server in the same region after the 28th update so WvW should be more of your concern for what server you want to be in. DB has good Oceanic presence and I’d imagine they have good communication as well. From the point of view of an opponent, they seem pretty good.

devonas and borlis pass were bandwagon servers on the rise from T8, they crushed T7-5, getting more bandwagoners.

then was matched up with mag/DR/borlis, got crushed 2 weeks in a row, so all the same bandwagoners that propelled DR/borlis, jumped to mag.

BP was from T7. But besides that, this is basically what my understanding of the situation is.

Played an hour since reset but got the sound glitch.

For whatever reason, reset is when FA’s NA crew does the worst compared to the other days of the week. I don’t think FA was doing too bad tonight though even if we are third right now. We were third last week as well.

Blacktide on the EU side is moving down 8 ranks, lol.

I think it’s because they updated the “rating” section. Those numbers are now the same as the official ones. Before they just listed the previous week’s projections for this week.

While we know what the outcome is going to be, I wish CD the best of luck and hope they give Kaineng a good glimpse at what the higher tiers are all about.

Yeah, I just saw that. With only 8 hours left, it may be too late. If it does happen, FA fights 1v1 with DB. Any population advantage gets enhanced without a stable third server.

It looks like CD will be Kaineng’s next opponent rather than DB. CD has already lost several guilds in the last couple of days and some of their players are describing the situation as an exodus. Even if it’s not as bad as SBI/IoJ, Kaineng will be winning their T4 match by a landslide.

Latest projection as of 20 min ago on mos: CD will be going to T4. If they are going through an exodus, the match with Kaineng will not help at all. DB could probably hold them off better (and win if Kaineng’s strength is being overrated).

Great post Shira Rae. FA welcomes transfers from any server, even ones that are rivals.

FA has a great Oceanic presence, active community forums and teamspeak, no drama within the server, and will probably have no need for a blackout.

Yeah, the thread has gotten more readable. We know which guilds had the most forum warriors now. I know some of my fellow FAers would like to poke fun at the situation (which is kinda funny). But once that’s out of the way we’ll have nothing to discuss other than….the actual match!!!

This is one crazy tier. Assuming CD stays next week which is still a little more likely than DB getting a higher rating, FA and CD will have fought 8 weeks in a row. We haven’t played one another in a week-long match beforehand and now CD becomes the server FA has the longest history with, lol. We have fought TC 7 times.

Unfortunately, I am not at liberty to make announcements for other guilds. However, from what I know, you are bleeding. Don’t confuse it with performance though. CD is still performing well and I think they would have retained first if they had performed like the reset night every night.

I’m from FA! It looks like CD has lost 3 guilds now. I guess they will get kicked out of T3 after the next match. But then they will have competitive matches with YB assuming they lose enough guilds to bring them to that level. I don’t think the situation will be on par with SBI/IoJ.

Got done playing. We went to DB BL and ran around doing zerg vs zerg battles. Very casual. We ended up just going to fight Jormag, lol. First time I fought a dragon.

To be fair, we at DB were on our way down too. That was 4-5 weeks after most of our WvW population transfered to SoS. Considering that Maguuma had an average to below average population at that time, beating DH at its prime can’t even be compared to a tier 3 match whatsoever, especially since the difference between 1st place and 3rd place was only 30k points.

The point is that DH at that time was a T4 server much like YB is now. We can debate prime DH vs current YB, but they are in a similar place relative to the rest of the servers. Both matches (FA/DH/HoD and Mag/YB/IoJ) featured a server that would go to T3, a T4 server, and a dead server). Mag’s future performance can’t be determined by their T4 match.
