League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
(edited by Arcadio.6875)
I doubt many people wearing pvt gear are otherwise running the same weapons/skills/traits/sigils/runes/nourishment as the meta build. If someone happens to do so however, then yes the difference between zerker and soldier is not a tremendous difference for groups not trying to get the speedrun record. Should be noted though that the “elitists” in this thread never said that zerker gear made the biggest difference, but rather the traits/skills you have along with how good of a player you are. Zerker gear just goes well with that since if you are running an otherwise optimal build and can play well, you should trade the unnecessary passive defense for more damage.
(edited by Arcadio.6875)
The issue is when players that believe everyone should have zerker gear and everyone should focus on damage either attack, invade, or otherwise harass new and casual players.
Three examples:
1. A new player likes a build and posts it on the forums. Zerker elitists try to force that player into playing their build.
2. I make a listing in LFG with “All Welcome!” as the title. Zerker player joins and attempts to kick a non-zerk player.
3. Zerker elitists calling someone out in map chat because they like having a set build more than the meta.
All three of these have happened. THAT is the issue.
I have no doubt that these have happened, but how often do these happen? In the hundreds of dungeon runs I’ve done with pugs, I’ve only seen “zerker elitists” being a problem a couple of times. In fact, the big problem I see is people not reading lfg descriptions and joining groups they are not suited for. While more often than not my “px 80s exp” lfg will give a good group, there have been many times when people who joined are not level 80 or not experienced. I even tried just spelling out “experienced” just in case people thought I meant “explorable” and I still get people who don’t know what they’re doing (and I suspect they are looking to get carried).
On the forums, I would say the PHIW people tend to be more toxic than the so called zerker elitists.
Haven’t been able to read much of this CDI (skimmed some posts though) so most of my suggestions have probably been posted many times and the discussion has moved on. I guess you can consider these my top 3. I’m going to list more than 3 though.
1. 10-20 man instances. Pick a maximum amount of players and design around it. So no scaling. I think Triple Trouble is a great example of requiring a coordinated zerg to get something accomplished, but I don’t feel like I personally contributed much. I’ll be all for more difficult World Bosses, but I’d like to see Anet work on something that’s for groups larger than a party, but smaller than a zerg.
2. Difficulty levels. It can be like fractals. Maybe not 50 levels though. Difficulty levels will allow everyone to enjoy the content. Veterans looking for a challenge will tackle the raid at a higher level while those who want to take it easy won’t be left out.
3. Guaranteed rewards. Please no insane RNG lol. Perhaps completing the raid will reward tokens like in dungeons. Maybe doing the raid at a higher level (if my above suggestion is implemented) will reward more tokens. Weapon/armor skins should be exclusive to the raid. I do not agree with the decision to have dungeon reward tracks in pvp btw. There should have been more pvp exclusive skins instead like the Glorious armor.
4. Not exclusive to guilds. It should be like how dungeons are now. Guilds already have an advantage in that they have better coordination than pug groups. No reason to make it exclusive. I would be fine with more Guild Missions, but raids shouldn’t be a part of that.
They just add a small fraction of content that eventually becomes as stale as existing content. The only difference is that due to their significantly smaller size, this occurs much quicker.
Eventually. But for a while, they would have done their job to freshen up the game and add variety. The latter will continue to be true even if the content becomes stale. For example, 9 dungeons is more choices than 8. Even if the dungeon community learns to run the dungeon just as well as the other 8, that 9th dungeon is still another choice for dungeon runners to do.
It would have been nice if we could do this in GW1. Not sure it makes as much sense here.
So when people rush through the expansion and start complaining about being bored after a month, need a new expansion again right?
I’m bored of this argument lol. People still do the content that was there since release. Why would new content be any different? Just like with the original release, there will be those who will rush through all the content and then quit until something new comes out. Others will continue playing the content years later. If there isn’t any new content though, the old ones will become too stale. Expansions will keep the game fresh for those who enjoy playing the game regularly.
Let’s say that Anet released Tengu as a playable eace and nothing else. Would that really add anything to the game if you had already experienced all of the existing content? Would doing the personal story, dungeons, world boss zergs, etc be any different as a different race?
Let’s say Anet adds the Dervish class to the game tomorrow and only that. Would that really add anything to the game? You’re still experiencing the same content but with a different play-style. You’re telling me that running AC or CoF for the 1.000th time will be different as a new class?
Let’s say that Anet adds 100 new skills to the game tomorrow and only that. Would that really add anything new to the already existing content that you wouldn’t get from a major skill balance update? There will always be a meta and it would just change to use those existing skills.
I don’t think anyone is advocating that they release a new race and nothing else. Now if they added a new race, a racial storyline similar to the first third of the PS, and a home city for the race, I certainly wouldn’t complain. I wouldn’t say that is enough for the game, but it would be a good addition rather than an insignificant one. I personally would prefer if a new race gets released along with a new class so I can make a new character that is both the new race and new class. As for adding new classes and new skills. Yes, that adds something new.
Note that people don’t advocate for one thing and just one thing. A combination of things will make for a better game. I also want new dungeons and PvP types. Those would also provide more things to do for the classes you already have.
Nit really. So playing the same content but in a new class would be significant. So all those players who are complaining about a lack of content, but haven’t experienced it with all classes, should just play another class? I’m sure doing world exploration for the 9th time would be refreshing with a new class. Oh wait, it wouldn’t.
How many people do you think finished the living story releases within a week? I’m pretty sure it’s at least half. Dungeons can be experienced completely within a month as well. You’ll likely be bored of the dungeon by the time you’re halfway getting all of the skins.
World completion may be similar enough but that’s because you are mostly running from place to place. Dungeons, PvP, and WvW (when running with a guild rather than a big zerg) certainly are different experiences when playing as other classes. Those who haven’t played as classes they may be interested in should try them out. Adding a new class to give another option for those who haven’t played all the classes yet or to give something different to do for those who have played all the classes is a good thing, not an insignificant one.
I don’t even know what you are arguing for. Do you not want the game to get new stuff just because some people will complete it in a few months?
Greetings, time traveler! You’ve arrived in 2014!
Unfortunately, expansions in this day and age are a bygone thing of yore. We still pine for them due to nostalgia, but game publishers have learned that they can make substantially more money doing substantially less work and with substantially less risk by simply nickel and diming the market with DLC.
If it is an expansion you seek, I suggest you return to your original timeline. Here, we just read about them in history books.
In the current timeline, Rift released an expansion yesterday, EQ1 will do so in 5 days, WoW in a month, SW:TOR in 2 months, and FFXIV next spring.
Yes. Please do expansions which a lot of players would complete within 1-2 months and then have to wait at least an entire year for another expansion. That would be so much better than now.
It would be.
But this is a terrible argument anyway. The game was released 2 years and 2 months ago. I’m still running the same dungeons that were there at release, playing the same classes that were there at release, playing in the same maps that were there at release, etc. Just because some players will experience the content in a few months doesn’t mean the new content stops being relevant in a few months. As I noted, the content that was there at release are still relevant. New content allows for more variety and stops the game from feeling stale.
There’s been some posts since I’ve started typing this so I will address the idea that new classes won’t change much. No. Every class plays differently from one another. Experiencing the game through another class is significant.
If you melee the car, wipe, and then melee it again to finish it off, you will still save a lot of time compared to ranging it. So the ledge is fine as it has a punishment for using it (wasted time).
Same situation. Hope to have it back.
66.6% chance of having SoS/FA/YB.
Easy dungeons:
COF p1/p2
SE p1/p3
AC p1/p3
Doing all of the above can take you an hour and a half to two hours in a pug group.
Also easy:
TA up/fw
CM p1
HOTW p1
COE p1/p2/p3
The paths in the first list are more popular. If you have limited time, just do those. If you have more time, add in the paths in the second list.
Just want to throw some ideas out there. Too lazy to write essays over them, but I will be reading the ones other people write!
-A button on the guild tab that says “Go to Guild Hall” when you are out in the world and “Leave Guild Hall” when you are in it. Works well for WvW and PvP.
-Guild Hall instance should be in the main world map so we can all go straight to our destination after meeting up.
-WvW portals like the ones near Fort Mariner wp so we can use our halls as a meeting place before WvW reset.
-A few pre-made guild hall maps with different themes we can select. Tbh, I don’t think guild halls will be implemented if people need it to be very customizable with furniture and the such. Let’s keep it simple to start with. More customization options can come at a later time.
Personally, I would like EOTM to stay as it is. What they should do with actual WvW is reward players for participating with tickets each week. With the current tournament, you get tickets for participating (doing 5 events in WvW or EOTM). 200 if your server gets 1st, 150 if 2nd, 100 if 3rd. You can buy Mistforged weapons, Mini Dolyak, and Ascended Accessories with the tickets.
My idea is that players get tickets for doing 25 events each week (can’t be done in EOTM). Maybe 50 tickets will be fine. They should not be rewarded based on server placing since that only encourages players to stack servers to ensure wins. More stuff needs to be able to be purchased with the WvW tickets so people will keep on wanting to get the tickets. This gives incentive for people to do a bit of WvW each week and perhaps some will like it enough to become more regular and join a WvW guild.
Also they need to get rid of WvW tournaments. WvW is not balanced and tournaments just make the situation worse. At this point they are just using it to pretend something is happening when there isn’t lol. My idea above will help do the one thing that tournaments help with and that is to get people who haven’t done WvW to check it out.
Don’t talk about it, they’ll just nerf it…
lol I think the same thing when mentioning that doing dungeons is the best way to get gold. If they nerfed dungeons, the population for that would drop significantly. Same with EOTM if they lowered the amount of karma and experience you get. I don’t think they are interested in nerfing dungeons/EOTM though.
It’s possible to do all of S2. There are four episodes so far. Each one is 200 gems if you missed it. Free if you logged in when it was still new.
They have mentioned that they are looking into adding S1 into the new format. Just don’t expect it soon (or ever tbh).
it looks like they are actually using 5/3/2 this time. I will edit my previous posts to correct this. thanks for pointing it out.
-ken
Nice. How did you figure out the exact values?
I don’t think they are using 5/3/1 this time around. I looked it over last night since I was wondering why the T2 match was JQ/FA/Mag instead of SoS/FA/Mag as predicted. Under the S2 system, JQ and SoS should have the same number of points and JQ would place higher due to rating being the tie breaker.
After looking at each league (both NA and EU), my conclusion is that placing first is more highly valued this time around. This is why servers that have placed first and third in their two matches are higher ranked than servers that placed second in both matches. You see this happen in every league. I don’t know the values used this time around, but if you substituted 5/3/1 with 3/1/0 or something similar, all of the current matchups make more sense.
EDIT: Snowreap figured the new values are 5/3/2 and edited his lists above.
(edited by Arcadio.6875)
I’d pay $40 or more for…
-a new region similar in size to Kryta or Shiverpeaks
-a new storyline (doesn’t have to be as long as the PS from the main game)
-a couple of new classes
-a couple of new races
-a couple of new weapon types
-a couple of new dungeons
-a bunch of new skins
PvP and WvW updates should be independent of the expansion other than whatever rebalancing will be needed when there are new classes.
Players who don’t purchase the expansions should still be able to explore the new region, join explorable dungeon paths, and join a party members’ story mission. I think that’s fair in terms of not fracturing the userbase while still providing reasons to pay. That said, people being cheap shouldn’t hold the game back. There’s no subscription and the gem store has been mostly non intrusive. An expansion every couple of years should be acceptable.
I know the Living World updates have added a couple of new maps, a story, and many new skins. But two years of this doesn’t compare to what we expect an expansion would have added. LW would have been fine in addition to expansions. Something to do between releases. But I do not consider it to be an acceptable replacement to expansions and I hope Anet either agrees and does expansions or put much more effort into LW so that it does replace expansions.

- Trial Accounts cannot use map chat
- Trial accounts will have access to Edge of the Mists
Don’t forget team chat!
1) Alliances
2) Calendar
^The two big ones for me. If alliances don’t get implemented, then multi-guild chat would replace it at the top of my list (although it would still have use even if alliances are implemented). I can’t pick something for my third most wanted feature so I’ll instead give a shoutout to:
-Mass messaging
-Guild tags
-Recruitment board
Didn’t mention Guild Halls, GvG, and capes since those don’t really fit the current topic, but I’d like to see those implemented as well.
Yeah, I was shocked when I got the notification that I completed this week’s achievement. I had just arrived on the map only a few minutes earlier. Some people have spent more time in queue than getting the achievement.
Speaking of queues, I got really nostalgic seeing such long queues and many people running around the map. Even in T2, Maguuma BL is usually empty on reset night. It was fun to be on a full map even if everyone was playing sloppily.
WvW needs more people. Maybe not so much that we go back to the days of long four map queues, but it definitely needs an influx of new blood. Perhaps if there was a weekly achievement every week that was far more time consuming than simply doing five events, but within reach of the PvE crowd, more players will be inclined to WvW regularly and even join WvW guilds. They will get better over time too. Many people who run dungeons regularly do so because of the rewards. They’ve become very efficient at running dungeons even if that wasn’t their goal originally. Hand out tickets for the WvW weekly achievement and add more stuff that can be bought with tickets. We will see the population improve permanently and not just during tournaments.
Even assuming the worst case scenario (the server you are currently on is destined to take 3rd every match), you only get 400 more tickets if you transfer to 1st place servers. That extra 400 tickets gets you a single Mistforged weapon (you will have 100 extra tickets to use or save) or two ascended accessories.
If you do guild missions every week (which takes an hour or so), you get 6 guild commendations each week. In 4 weeks, you will have 24 commendations. 24 commendations + 10 gold gives you….two ascended accessories.
Transferring is hardly worth what you get lol.
Not really… You’re always more likely to stay in the tier you are unless your rating dropped to a different tier.
Assuming no tournament, Mag is the most likely server to occupy the 6th rank, but that doesn’t mean they are likely to do so.
If that sounds confusing, imagine there are 3 players competing in a game. Player A has a 40% chance of winning. B has a 35% chance. C has a 25% chance. A is the best bet to win yet still has a 60% chance of losing.
Looking at the file Snowreap posted, Mag has a 39.55% chance of staying in T2. A better chance than any individual server ranked lower than them. Yet they still have a 60.45% chance of dropping.
What’s funny is that if it weren’t for the tournament, the upcoming match would have been the first time Mag was more likely to drop than stay in T2.
Whoever ends at 6th probably doesn’t really matter that much because except the first match all t2 servers are going to fight with at least 1 t1 server in their matches. So those matches are going to be lopsided with or without a strong 6th server.
3rd week should also be a pure T2 match. SoS wins week 1 and goes up only to place last in T1 and get sent back down. 2 weeks of SoS/FA/6th server is half the tournament. I think it’s worth sending someone up to have a more balanced T2 for the tournament. Even if the T2 matches are likely to end up SoS>FA>6th server anyway, they won’t be nearly as lopsided as SoS/FA/Mag is now.
SoS/FA/Mag
CD/YB/DR
Worst possible roll in terms of getting CD into T2.
Mag stays in gold?
It’s a 40.45% chance of not playing FA (check the na1 file). Since FA is stuck in T2 and Mag can’t move up to T1, any match without FA means dropping down.
Well, it doesn’t matter how far BG and Mag are away from each other. Mag will still have the 6th highest rating by the end of the week which means they are expected to stay in T2. SoS is close enough to the T1 servers allowing it to roll up while one of the T1 servers rolls down (most likely BG since they have the lowest rating of the T1 servers). Mag facing BG is possible, just not probable.
59.55% chance Mag stays in T2.
40.45% chance Mag drops to T3/T4.
I can’t take the excitement. Tomorrow I will be spamming F at the Red BL portal while peeing my pants.
Snowreap just posted the matchup probabilities in the wishlist topic.
59.55% chance Mag stays in T2 next week. So 40.45% chance it gets dropped to T3 or T4.
If Mag doesn’t get RNG dropped next week, there is a good chance they are staying in gold for the tournament. They will be about 47 points ahead of CD by the end of this match. It’s not likely that SoS/FA can drop Mag’s rating again by so much since we’d have to win by even more than we are now. CD would also have to pull away from the other T3 servers to make up the difference. Would be very hard to do so if YB or DR roll up next week with their lower rating. It would still be hard against DB and SBI seeing as how CD is currently not gaining rating.
Tomorrow evening is going to be a lot of fun finding out if Mag drops or not.
I deleted both versions due to lack of space. If emailing support works and they replace them for you let me know because I have the achievements that show I made them, but I deleted the skins before the wardrobe came out.
Same. Wish I can get it back.
Pug most of the time. I don’t do Arah, Fractals, or Aetherpath so my experience might not be accurate for those. Pug groups are good far more often than not. The people you get off the lfg tool are people who run dungeons often and know what they are doing. You will get bad/inexperienced players from time to time that can make a run frustrating. If you specify that you want experienced people in the lfg, it will weed out most of those. For less popular dungeons, you may not have the luxury of putting “exp” in the lfg description and still getting a group quickly, but I haven’t really had problems with pugs there even without asking for experience.
Interestingly, it takes a bit longer to do dungeons with my guild. That’s mostly because I have to explain the dungeon people who are new to it and they often do not have the right gear/skills/traits. But the most recent time I’ve ran with them, our completion time has gotten near to where it would be if I just pugged the dungeon instead. It’s nice to help guild members and see them improve.
I have to play on lowest settings on my laptop, but I switch to max settings to take pictures. Framerate doesn’t matter when I’m standing still lol. All my pictures are of my character though and not really of the scenery. I really should take more pics of that.
Btw, you can get rid of the UI with ctrl+shift+h.
I hate having to solo the flame acolyte part because the pugs died on the bridge.
lern2play
Yeah HoD imploded twice actually once after season1 and then after season 2.
Add another one to the count. In the early days of the game, T1 was HoD, JQ, and SBI. It was a very unstable time due to free transfers. HoD went from the top NA server to T7 when their huge alliance broke up. ET was a T2 server then and also imploded the same week.
Everyone watched as HoD and ET gotten beaten badly on their way down the tiers. I remember FA’s match in T4 with HoD and DH. HoD was basically empty. One time I went to DH BL and stood outside HoD’s spawn. Only one guy left their spawn and after losing a few duels with me, gave up and left. I felt bad for the few people who actually stayed on the server.
S2 was quite a shock for me to see HoD with hordes everywhere lol. Can’t say I wasn’t happy to see FA return the favor after season.
25% chance T2 won’t be SoS/FA/Mag. Up from 1%.
And what do you wan a do alone or with your 5 people party against the marionette?
I wasn’t there so I have no idea what you’re talking about. And that’s the problem with temporary content.
I took long breaks from the game last year and missed much of it. So no, I don’t miss it (in the other sense of the word miss). Even when I happened to be on during a new episode, I didn’t always want to do it at that time and didn’t like the feeling that I needed to do it or else I’ll never see it again. Season 2’s format is superior and I have actually completed the story for it so far.
My friend who got the game after S1 ended missed out on it entirely. Also, he doesn’t have a work schedule that allows him to play every 2 weeks. He works on location for weeks and then goes back home for a week off. This past month he took overtime which meant he was on location for 5 weeks. In that time he missed two episode releases. His wife logged into the game so he could have them on his account and play later when he gets back.
Now if they can redo S1 into the story journal, we will be enjoying S1 lol.
(edited by Arcadio.6875)
lock you up with people from the same region or country
From my understanding, it doesn’t do this. It does try to put you on a map with people who speak the same language. You can just set your language to English and it will put you on a map with English speakers instead.
SE1 and CoF1 are the easiest paths. I wouldn’t mind if they were lowered from 1g5s to just 1g as long as most other paths are increased to reflect the harder difficulty and length. Currently most paths are 1g5s. Some need to be increased by 50s to 1g.
Edit: Just did Arah3. That really needs to be bumped to 2g like everyone else said.

I’ve been in a guild for most of my time in GW2, but there was a couple of months between guilds that I went solo. I highly suggest finding a good guild. You can still do stuff solo while being in a guild. You don’t get the benefits of being in a guild if….you are not in a guild.
There are some terrible guilds out there and many that won’t fit your needs. The good thing is that you are not obligated to stick with them and can leave at any time.
I don’t wanna play in EB or www EotM.
Well, I would lol. But no one person’s opinion should be the final decision on whether EOTM can be a real WvW map. That’s why we need to test it by having it in a matchup.
If the WvW community hates it, then it can stay as a ktrain map forever.
My suggestion is to swap EOTM and EB for one week as a test. See how well the map works when in an environment that is both coordinated and competitive. If the community likes it, then they can make whatever tweaks are necessary based on feedback and have EOTM and EB rotate every other matchup. The one not used in the matchup can be the map ktrainers go to.
This would also be a good direction for adding extra maps to WvW. The population really can’t support having more than 4 maps so instead there can be rotations for the non-BL map.
Unless you have a different school/work schedule compared to the average person, it’s likely that the EU servers will have more activity during the time you play compared to NA servers where people will get on later. When I play during NA afternoon (EU evening/night), there aren’t nearly as many people on compared to NA evening/night. I think that’s definitely something you want to keep in mind. Might as well pick EU server for more people and less lag.
If you happen to play very late at night, then NA will be a good choice.
Things we now know as of a few minutes ago:
-They were going to charge 300g per color.
-They changed their minds due to the backlash.
Commanders will be able to switch between colors at no extra charge!
From the WvW forum…
“Hi Guys,
Just wanted to clarify that we did indeed change our plans based on your feedback. What was said during the interviews at Gamescom was correct at the time but after listening to what you had to say we decided to make a change to the feature be in line with what you felt was a more balanced approach to the change.
Thank you very much for your feedback and we hope that you enjoy this upcoming change.
Thanks,
John”
Edit: Also from the WvW forums…
“I’m just going to squash this rumor right now. Before the strong negative feedback received after the interview at gamescom, every intention was for each color to cost 300g. Pending QA, that version was ready to ship for the feature pack.
When the flood of feedback came in, there was a flurry of emails working out the best course of action, and in the end Zach and Tyler worked the weekend to make sure this change could be made on time for 9/9.”
(edited by Arcadio.6875)
watch the last minute of that video. It says exactly that, “if you have unlocked blue already that’s the one you have and you can go ahead and buy other colours”
Wow, I haven’t seen this video yet. It clearly shows that they were going to charge for more colors. Didn’t say additional colors would cost 300g each, but they were still going to charge something. So they have changed their minds.
