I have 128 right now. 14 of the 7ar versatile infusions and then the 3 +10s I had from before. My rings are attuned now so I’m thinking about making a +9 and +8 to make it to 145 and rely on the singularity buff or make 2 +11s so I don’t have to rely on it.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
I’m going to wait until we know how to craft the legendary backpiece first. Right now my necro is the lord of the rings and since I don’t play him, he can stay that way lol.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
10 years from now someone will figure out how to farm cof p1 to level up their GW3 characters.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
Kinda funny. While the majority of my skins did come from actually doing the dungeons, the only reason I went for the achievement was to get rid of all the pvp boxes that were clogging up my inventory.
The reward I got from doing many dungeons and pvp matches was a 3 gold weapon I don’t even remember.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
It would be nice if the new squad ui allowed for something like this. Don’t know if it is possible for squads to enter dungeons/fractals or if people can join squads from lfg. I’m guessing not.

People complaining about how it was too easy to get to level 80 with exotic gear and leaving the game cuz no end game is the reason we are here now. Grindy ascended gear, grindy elite spec, grindy mastery system, grindy guild halls. All in the name of progression. Yet somehow many of us were playing the game for 3 years and spending the vast majority of that time not leveling up something. Just doing what we enjoy.
This is really annoying to me since my guild is very interested in doing the raids. But now they have to grind out the ascended gear, hero points, and mastery points. Before tackling hard challenges, they have to tackle boredom.
I love how spvp is set up. Auto level 80. All skills and traits learned. Access to almost all sigils, runes, and amulets. Standardized gear. Your personal skill is what matters. While some progression is fine for pve/wvw, I think they are taking things too far now.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
You don’t have to do anything, but I would recommend going through the personal story, watch a summary of living world season 1, and then doing living world season 2 if you’re interested in the HoT story.
Gear up. Go for ascended if you can. Exotics until you can get ascended.

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Arcadio.6875
I think it’s interesting that so many people remember GW2 being $50. It actually launched at $60. There was a price drop in early 2013 putting it at $50. My point is that prices go down over time. While there wasn’t another price drop until HoT pre-puchase went up, the game had been on sale many times. I know the game had been on sale for $25 and then $10 several times. IIRC, there was a sale price between $50 and $25, but I was taking a break during that time period.
There was a gradual progression over 3 years from $60 to F2P. It’s not like the games where you paid $60, paid a subscription each month, and then the game goes F2P a single year after release.
While it’s true that GW1 never went F2P, prices did go down significantly over time. I bought GW Complete with all campaigns and expansion for $40.

The Guild Missions selector / re-roller / gear as I understand it is a check box that allows you to check the type of missions you want to play for the following week. So, yes you could check the boxes for the combinations you want. You can change them and it will take affect at the next reset. Or use the default (all checked) to add a +10% bonus Favor reward.
Does that help?

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-mission-changes-and-improvements/
^I’m looking at these.
It does not seem like you can pick two game modes. It’s either just one or all three. If this is the case, it would be nice if being able to roll two of the three types is possible for a smaller favor bonus.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
That doesn’t answer my question…
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
Colin, do you think you guys can add the option for guilds to only run pve+pvp, pve+wvw, or pvp+wvw missions instead of just having the options for one type or all three? I think a 5% favor bonus would be fine.
My guild focuses on pve and spvp, but we are cross server so we have the problem where we either only do pve or we do the mix, but not everyone can join us for wvw.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
(edited by Arcadio.6875)
Sounds great Colin! Looking forward to the new guild content.
Howver, as for Guilds and Guild Halls – on behalf of the tPvP community I’m begging you, please add an option to make the Guild Arena use PvP gear. This is killing this feature for PvP guilds as there’s basically no reason for use to own a GH, or even if we get one and build an arena we couldn’t make good use of it.
The arena would be a crucial part of guild hosted minigames, 1v1 tournaments with custom terrains and so on, and the fact that PvP guilds won’t be able to use it is more than disappointing.
This would be a great option. Their reasoning for not doing it (we have spvp custom arenas) doesn’t make sense.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
I’m not too upset about the first week of new guild missions, but I definitely think they should add pve+pvp, pve+wvw, pvp+wvw options that give a 5% favor bonus. My guild does pve and spvp, but not wvw as we are cross server.

Combat Visibility
One change you’ll notice when the expansion goes live – a number of FX for skills have changed. We’ve tried to cut back some of the visual noise of some of the “noisiest” skills to make it easier to see what’s going on in combat with multiple players/mobs on screen. We’ve also made some skill FX end much faster to align with the length their actual combat effect happens in the world – previously some FX lingered much longer than the actual outcome of the skills combat interaction would occur. This is also to help make it easier to see what’s going on in combat.
Finally!

Fractal Dungeon Leaderboards
Back when we announced all the updates to Fractals for Heart of Thorns – the announce blog also discussed more information coming before HoT about leaderboards for Fractals. Our team of folks working on Fractal dungeons kept iterating on this concept and ultimately we have decided to make it something more involved (re: exciting) than our original plans which will extend our development a bit more. This also means you’ll be able to earn the new fractal backpack precursor, but a few of the components for the new legendary will come with this expanded future fractals feature.
As always, we’ll discuss features once they’re far enough along to share development details on; our Fractal Dungeon team will be back with more updates about this and other plans for Fractal Dungeons in the future: when it’s ready™.
Unfortunate. Nice if they’ll be better than what was originally planned, but we don’t know any details. And it looks like we can’t complete the fractals legendary backpack until the future update.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
So long as neither guild claims world first for whatever they are testing, then I am fine with them being invited for closed beta. I’m also fine with Attuned being invited. Raids are going to be enjoyed by more than just the top dungeon guilds. Having input from a serious guild that isn’t one of the speedrun guilds is a good thing.
I do wish we got an open beta though. Still a little salty that east coast NA didn’t get a chance to test out the raid in bwe3 due to it going up after we were going to bed and the time extention didn’t last long enough for much of us to get back from work/school.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
Decided to take advantage of the call of the mists buff. Popped an exp booster, celebration booster, and used some of those pvp potions I’ve been hoarding. Completed two sets of dungeons skins so now I only have a single weapon in HotW to go until I get Dungeoneer. I still have hundreds of pvp potions, but I think I’ll just do the dungeon as a goodbye to dungeons before they nerf the gold reward. RIP.
Anyway, I got an ascended chest as one of the pvp drops so I now have a full set of berserker light armor. Should I do the usual scholar runes? Chronomancer and ele/tempest will be my alts for high level fractals and raids.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
When my guild queues up, we normally go ranked. But now that it restricts players less than rank 20, we are forced to go unranked to help a new pvper learn. Once leaderboards are back up, I would imagine people who want to play together, but don’t want to feel as pressured to win, will go unranked. So there are reasons why a premade goes unranked.
I think the better solution if soloq isn’t going to happen is to simply make the premades wait.
Queue as full premade? Only fight 5 or 4+1.
Queue as 4? Only fight 5, 4+1, 3+2
Queue as 3? Only fight:
3+2 vs 4+1
3+2 vs 3+2
3+1+1 vs 3+1+1
Queue as 2? Only fight:
2+3 vs 2+3
2+3 vs 2+2+1
2+2+1 vs 2+2+1
2+1+1+1 vs 2+1+1+1
2+1+1+1 vs full pug
Soloq?
full pug vs full pug
anything listed above where a pug was inserted
I think having the exact same premade situation on both sides is ideal, but that can make waits a little too long so matchups being close enough to ideal is fine.
If the matchmaking system cannot find a similar sized premade that is around the same skill level, the system shouldn’t just throw them in a match just for the sake of having a match. Let the group wait until an appropriate opponent is found or until they break up and queue as smaller groups.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
This game has dungeons?
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
Definitely a good idea. I much prefer the PvP build system over the PvE/WvW one and Custom Arenas do not do the same thing as the Guild Hall Arenas.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
“I can’t make it because I had 24 hour shift” “I had to fly across the country” “My timezone was asleep” “My internet went out that whole time” “My dog ate the wifi router, and by the time I got it replaced…” I think the only one I haven’t seen on the forums for this and similar extensions is the dog one, and I"m not even sure on that.
One of these is not like the others. When raids went up last night, those in the eastern time zone of the U.S. either called it a night already or would very soon. Those in the central time zone would also be going to bed soon enough. Anyone still on would have had to have heard the news in time before going to bed. These two time zones make up large majority of the U.S. population (and I assume the same for Canada as well). Based on playing WvW and pugging dungeons, I’ve noticed the population on the NA servers are heavily weighted towards these two time zones as well.
A lot of the playerbase was unable to test the raids and thus give needed feedback. This is a brand new feature they are implementing in the game and it is a big deal. We want this to succeed. We need to be able to play it and give our feedback.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
It really needs to be extended. You guys opened raids at 8:30pm pst according to Chris Cleary’s post on reddit. That’s 11:30pm est and 10:30pm cst. The bulk of the NA population lives in those two time zones and would either have gotten off for the night or would only be able to enjoy the raids for a little bit. And then work/school on Monday. The EU population would have already been asleep and would only get to enjoy the raids for a while after work/school today.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
Yeah, I don’t see how they can balance around full ascended when ascended gear have wildly different stats. Will they be balanced around runes and sigils as well? Those are a big contributor to stats.
Also, they can’t say they aren’t balancing around specific team comps, but then also say an ascended/exotic mix might not cut it later in the raid. Having one team comp over another is a bigger change than asc/exo mix vs full asc.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
You’d have to make a beta character since the raid is in the new map. Beta characters are level 80 and have gear. The question is if you pre-purchased on your EU account. I’m not going to on mine since I don’t use it as much as my NA account.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
PvP/WvW missions exist because they are getting rid of influence and merits. Guilds will use a new currency called favor which is only obtained from missions. When they announced this, WvW guilds complained that they didn’t want to do PvE for guild upgrades.
If I had to guess (and we’ll see if this correct tomorrow), guilds will only be able to obtain a certain amount of favor a week and won’t have to do every mission. So PvE guilds won’t come to WvW and WvW guilds won’t have to do PvE. I’m hoping this is the case.

They aren’t going to directly say they won’t make another dungeon again.
Here is the closest they’ve come to saying it:
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/10044/page/2
MMORPG: What about traditional group dungeons? Are you pretty much done with those for now? Leaving them as part of the leveling experience? Or will group dungeons be making a return?
Colin: We’re treating Fractals of the Mists as our focus on end-game five-player dungeon content. And all additions we make to make five player dungeon content more fun will expand on Fractals. And then raids will be the next level of that.
MMORPG: Was it that you noticed people were playing the fractals a lot more than they were the traditional dungeons, so you turned your focus on the fractals? Using metrics, or…?
Colin: All of the above? When you hear dungeons in GW2, it means something very different than Fractals. Fractals were sort of the evolution of our dungeon system. We are making them more approachable. We feel like Raids mean something else too, something even harder than Fractals. So when we needed to take a look and see what kind of content we could focus on as being the most challenging yet rewarding, it became clear that it was all about fractals and raids.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
I voted for it in the CDI. Wasn’t it the top suggestion?
Being able to chat with all the guilds you’re in without having to switch rep is a good feature, but it isn’t a substitute for alliances. They should do this too.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
And part of that process is acquiring the appropriate gear.
The good thing is they aren’t being locked out of content, only difficulty settings.
You’re defining content too narrowly to the point where your comment is irrelevant to what anyone else is talking about. I consider Fractals 10-50(100 in HoT) to be part of the Fractals content. And they aren’t difficulty settings in the way many games have easy/normal/hard modes. The whole point is to progress through the levels.
Note that neither I nor the TC are advocating removal of the agony resistance progression. I don’t necessarily think they need to be decoupled from ascended gear. I just think the process needs to be streamlined in some way to make it easier for people to bring in alts and for new players to understand how they will be progressing through the levels. I still think people need to earn their way through the levels.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
Free sigil/rune changing in the same way you can swap stat combos on legendary gear (and of course legendary would have this new feature too).
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
Doing fractals isn’t just about seeing the fractals. It’s about progressing through the levels going through tougher challenges and getting better rewards. When new members in my guild ask about fractals, they want to know about what they need to progress. They aren’t interested in doing 1-9 only.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
You don’t need any Agony Resistance to do fractals. At all. You only need it to do it at a higher difficulty.
I’m not sure what the point of your comment is…
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
I bought the expansion, how to play the news?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Arcadio.6875
You pre-purchased. The expansion launches on October 23rd.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
60 AR on trinkets and 10 on weapons makes it easy for alts currently. Do wonder how it will work in later fractal levels though. Will be very annoying if we have to craft full ascended armor any time we want to use an alt of another gear type (heavy/medium/light). What’s also annoying is the rune situation. Even if you get full legendary from raids, trying out different runes or giving your armor to another profession that benefits from a different rune will be a problem.
Regardless, something needs to be done to make it easier for people to get into fractals. The offensive/defensive/utility infusion slot vs agony infusion slot is a pain to explain to new people interested in fractals. Reading the wiki doesn’t help them too much. As a guild leader, I’ve had to explain this many times so I know how unintuitive the current system is. +1 agony infusions drop frequently, but aren’t usable on the most common infusion slots. That’s just bad design.

It just strikes me odd that it’s an update that’s not mandatory for everyone. so some areas and maps will be exclusive for Heart of thorns buyers?
I’m a bit confused about how it works.
Yes, some areas and features will be locked to those who do not purchase the expansion. This is standard for MMOs and expansions in general.
GW2 doesn’t have a subscription and buyers were promised they’d get to keep playing the game after they purchased it so Anet can’t stop you from playing the game just because you didn’t buy the expansion. They’ll just prevent you from playing the new stuff since your original purchase doesn’t cover the expansion content.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
Definitely want this for custom arenas. Courtyard used to be exclusive to custom arenas so there is precedent for it.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
Have to agree with most of the criticisms here. Was really excited for this mode and played it whenever it has come up. While a few little things have been fixed here and there, the mode still has too many problems.
Stronghold still feels like you are primarily fighting npcs instead of other players which should not be the case in a player vs player mode. Quite often, players are will ignore enemy players in order to accomplish their goal. If you are on offense, then you want the guards down so they can’t kill your doorbreakers. The enemy defender trying to stop you? Less important than taking the guards down first. You end up with funny situations like supply runners on both sides arriving at the depot at the same time and going to opposite ends to channel their supply and leaving without exchanging a single attack. Much of the fighting occurs toward the end when you’re trying to get the second gate down or going into the lord room.
Conquest got it right. The capture points and secondary objectives give reasons for players to fight other players, not reasons to avoid other players.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
Your last post prior to this topic was made 4 months ago and you never posted much anyway so it’s just odd you bothered to make a topic like this.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
I have all classes at 80, but the vast majority of my time spent playing the game did not involve leveling up. There is a ton to do in the game a lot to achieve. The expansion will be adding more “end game” stuff as well.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
I haven’t pre-purchased even though I intend to get the expansion because I don’t have a good enough reason to give Anet my money now rather than later. When I pre-purchased GW2, I barely played during the BWEs. I’ll probably get it for BWE3 just to test a few things out so I have a better idea on what to do when the expansion officially releases.
As a pvper, I am now avoiding queuing up because of all the beta characters. Really wish beta characters were only in unranked so I could play ranked as normal.

Colin posted there.
Hi,
We are a guild of 3 guys . We love WWW.
With Guild halls , we will have to do guild missions. So why we have to do puzzle jump and things like this , when in this game we just love killing people on the battlefield !
Why can t we play as we want .. ??
HoT will include a solution for this for both guilds that are WvW, and PvP oriented that want to build and expand their Guild Halls and need the favor generated by guild missions. Same goes for guilds that have a mix of players interested in all three. More info down the road a bit on how this will work once we’ve got it a little more solid on our end.
Edited to add: Everyone will have to do the actual mission to capture the guild hall once per hall though no matter what. If your group online is too small, you’ll need to invite friends (or pay/beg/sing-songs-to-woo peeps in Lion’s Arch!) to come with you and help you claim the guild hall to own one. Or you could always grow your guild
Any indication on group size required for capture mission?
Will they have to be in the guild to help?
We’re still debating minimum size, you can see a lot of discussion down in the guild CDI thread that’s helping us inform some of those decisions.
And no – you don’t need people to be in your guild to help you capture it. Bring friendly guilds to help you out, ask nicely in Lion’s Arch, etc.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
Hello, just one question.
So I bought GW2 right after it had been released for 40 euros and now I wonder if I have to buy the HoT for cca 45 euros again. Or what is the difference between a player who downloads the core game for free and the player who bought the game in the past ? They both have to pay for HoT if they want to play it, but then I will pay 80 euros for HoT and the newcomer only cca 45 euros. Am I right ?
-You’re not buying something again. You bought the GW2 core game. Now you would have to buy the expansion if you want the content that comes with it. Generally expansions like this aren’t given for free.
-Someone who bought the game in the past had access to the game from the time of purchase until now. F2P began 3 years after the game was released and has restrictions.
-Both players pay exactly the same amount for the expansion. Someone who bought the core game in the past will have spent more money on the franchise, but they also had more time to play.

Really excited about raids. Love what I’m reading.
We want to create epic experiences for you and your friends to conquer together and, once your foes have been vanquished, to reward you in ways that allow you to show off your skills to the rest of Tyria.
The encounters within Raids will contain tons of exclusive new items you’ll never be able to find anywhere else in the game, from miniatures, to weapon skins, to awesome titles. You can then proudly display these out in the open world to show off your skill and accomplishments. Own a Guild Hall? Awesome! You can loot a trophy from some of our bosses and use them as decorations to show off the challenge you’ve conquered.
Secondly, raids will introduce the very first ever set of legendary armor. This isn’t any ordinary armor set! Similarly to legendary weapons, you’ll be able to change the stats that the armor provides. When entering combat, you’ll become a beacon of your heroic deeds as the armor set comes to life, animating around you. Only the bravest of heroes will be able to collect and craft these legendary threads.
A certain user is not going to be happy lol.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
GW2 is a direct sequel to GW1. WoW is a spinoff of the Warcraft games.
Since the very beginning, GW2 was sold as the perfect game for GW1 players. Anet constantly praised its previous game and assured GW1 players that GW2 would have what they loved about GW1. When they introduced raids last Saturday, what did they do? They directly referenced GW1 elite missions as something GW2 raids should be like.
While GW2 is not meant to be a carbon copy of GW1, it is also not meant to be foreign to GW1 players. Features players loved in GW1 should definitely be brought over. I say this as someone who spent only a little time with the original game before the sequel came out and has played the sequel for a much larger amount of time.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
A class being generally more tanky than another class doesn’t make it a tank. The trinity is about hard roles. Being a tank means a lot more than just being a little harder to kill.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
Raids: Other games have raids. Other games also have dungeons and pvp. GW2 moved toward being like other MMOs from the very start when it included open world which GW1 did not have. If there was anything to complain about GW2 being like other games, it would be for that, not raids. GW1 had raids. Colin directly referenced a handful of them in his presentation. GW1 was talked about in a positive light while with other games, the focus was on the negatives. So there’s no need to invoke the WoW name here.
Trinity: C/S/D was talked about since the very beginning. The difference between it and the traditional holy trinity is huge. The latter consists of hard roles. Tanks tank. Healers heal. Damage dealers damage. GW2’s soft trinity is fluid. All players can switch between the roles as needed.
Gated Items: There is a big difference between prestige and a necessary gear treadmill. Even if we consider legendary as being more than prestige, players will eventually get their legendary armor. The second raid won’t introduce a new tier to grind for unless Anet changes their mind about that.
Reputation Grind: I think you’re reaching on this one. Haven’t played wow, but a quick look through their wiki and it doesn’t sound similar at all. Masteries are more like leveling up skills to make them more powerful. That is something you’d find in a lot of games, but it’s basic enough that it doesn’t seem like their were inspired by any particular game.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
The new league system will put a badge next to your name based on which division you reach. That’s even better than ranks since you have to be decent to get to the higher divisions, even if you queue as pre-made.
Not sure if new finishers are rewarded, but there will be the pvp legendary backpiece.
